Main Map

More than a millennium has passed since the "machine mage" Karamoss's failed siege of Absalom, and for years the Pathfinder Society has used upper reaches of his subterranean siege tower as a training ground for initiates. During a routine drill, the once-dormant dungeon springs to life, and it will take all the PCs' resourcefulness and skill to make it out alive.

Also, are you sure you want to play Gunari in the next one? I've had a re-read of the rules for out-of-tier characters, and based on my understanding of it, the gold awards go based on APL not CL, so you would be getting the lower amount of gold (missing out on 600+ GP for those sessions). As always, please feel free to point out if I'm wrong here.

Actually, I do believe the gold awards are per character level, APL just decides the subtier which to play. So for example 3rd level character in 1-5 scenario always receives out-of-tier gold, whether he's playing up or down.

Well, that's how we play in our area anyway, I don't think I've ever read the rules that carefully myself...

Okay, I've re-read the rewards system in the guide.

PFS Guide to Organized Play wrote:

Determine the Max Gold for the scenario based

on the PC’s advancement rate and the subtier played. Circle the applicable value (F).

I took that to mean exactly as it says, you get the gold value for the subtier played. However, reading further this would seem to support Amaranti's interpretation:

PFS Guide to Organized Play wrote:
If the PC’s level is not within the subtier played (such as a 1st-, 2nd-, or 3rd-level character in Subtier 4–5), circle the Out-of-Subtier gold value or calculate the Out-of-Subtier value for Seasons 0–4 by taking the average of both subtiers and rounding down. Write this value beside area F and circle it.

Amaranti's group's interpretation is also supported my earlier reading that you need to play one subtier or another (based on APL and number of players), which would mean that the out-of-subtier max gold can only apply to individual characters.

This would mean that, provided Gunari was 3rd level and we were playing subtier 1-2, he would still get the out-of-subtier gold. Which is good. When he dings 4th, though, if we're still playing subtier 1-2, he'll miss out (ie. only get out-of-subtier gold instead of subtier 4-5 gold). I suspect that by that time, though, we'll be nudging an APL of 3 and can start playing 3-7 scenarios anyway (or subtier 4-5 using the 4 player adjustments, if you prefer).

Hey all, just some final things on this thread...

You should all now have PMs with your chronicle sheets included. Let me know if you didn't get them (PM me, or email me) or if they aren't done correctly.

Amaranti is back in, too! Trapper Mors has very kindly stepped down, citing a large number of PbP games that he is, and has been, a part of - and not wanting to "take" the opportunity for play from other players. I really do appreciate his generosity at stepping down, and hope we can have him along again some time in the future.

Finally, I have started a new page for our next adventure. Let's move the discussion to there. Gameplay and Discussion threads are both open for fun!

Slave Ships of Absalom

Yep, lacking any further information I picked the next appropriately tiered adventure in numerical order.

Gunari, are you offering to run a scneario simultaneously with mine, after mine or would you like to take the GM's chair next? I'm up for either (and so is Lort...). I have absolutely no preference.

I could do it next, or after you... would prefer to do it serially, rather than in parallel.

Already Ninja'd!

Yes, he'd get out-of-subtier gold. Also, I am going to finish his rebuild now that it has been confirmed as to be legal. Probably changing his traits as well, since I'll actually want Kn:Engineering this season!

Any suggestions for feats (things have really changed for Warpriests). He's currently got Toughness and Shield Focus... I may still keep Toughness, but not really thinking that I want to keep Shield Focus (note: he has Weapon Focus: Rapier already).

Oh, and finally finally, I missed the dates in your PDFs. I've fixed it now, and the same link should lead to an updated PDF with date. Sorry about that!

Gunari, sorry, just started the next game - so how about you run the one after this?

Dark Archive

Human (Minnesotan) Rules Lawyer 4, GM 5!

Works for me!

Either we can do Silver Mount Collection (a 3-7), or I can pull in an older scenario.
