Toorin looks through his scroll cases and says, "I have scrolls for spells of air bubble, mount, comprehend languages, floating disk, ant haul, endure elements--3 of these--and create water--ten of those. I cannot cast the spider climb yet. I think I'll take part of my share of the profits from Seeker's Folly as this gem of brightness. It's nearly out of charge, but it might be useful."

Purchasing the 2 charge gem of brightness from the chronicle sheet for 520 gp. Also, there is no price listed for the bracers of spellguard, but I assume they are the price listed in the reference document of 5000 gp.

Ready to depart, Amenopheus gathers everyone together. "Come closer, that is it. Korasu, a bit too close there. Thanks my friend." In a loud, commanding voice, Amenopheus begins his ritual casting. At the climax, the Patfinders suddenly see themselves at the pass of a mountainous range.

"Welcome to the Pillars of the Sun, Pathfinders."

The Pillars of the Sun are a desert mountain range south of Eto. Its terrain is rocky and arid, cut by profound chasms and colossal precipices.

"Best stick together, getting lost is as easy as it is deadly, as a few wrong turns can throw you completely off track—or worse, off a cliff—trapping you between the scorching noon sun and the freezing night winds. Honestly, this harsh environment alone is enough to keep most adventurers away, and the beasts that live in the mountains only magnify the danger of this inhospitable place."

Temperatures continue to rise all through the morning. The oppressive heat from the sun is only exacerbated by the reflective heat cascading off the rocks. What little shade there is is sparse and unhelpful. Their protective magics in place, the Pathfinders are able to shake off all the unpleasantness and focus on finding the pair of thieves.

After four hours of tirelessly prodding through, the group reaches a place where the winding path through the spires splits.

PRD, very hot conditions wrote:
A character in very hot conditions (above 90° F) must make a Fortitude saving throw each hour (DC 15, +1 for each previous check) or take 1d4 points of nonlethal damage. Characters wearing heavy clothing or armor of any sort take a –4 penalty on their saves. A character with the Survival skill may receive a bonus on this saving throw and might be able to apply this bonus to other characters as well (see the skill description). Characters reduced to unconsciousness begin taking lethal damage (1d4 points per hour).

Lots of chatter in discussion thread about endure elements - just let me know who does what

They walk part way down one path, before backtracking and walking down the other path. The entire time Amenopheus and the Pathfinder search for the trail left by Kafar and Nefti.

Amarok Survival: 1d20 + 9 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 9 + 8 = 37
Warpac Survival, aid: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Pooka Survival, aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 +8 to becoming lost)
Korasu, Survival aid: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Xull Survival, aid: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 +8 to becoming lost)

Lucky that wasn't combat!

Finding sings that the Aspis agents split up, each taking a different path, Amenopheus turns to the group.

"It appears that they have split up. Since we do not know which has the gem, perhaps we should split that party. I shall take this path, and you shall take that path." Disagreeing heartily in their minds, the Pathfinder agree and begin their trek once more.

The path leads you to a series of switchbacks that ascend the steep side of a gorge. Breathing heavily, drinking deeply, the Pathfinders are relieved to see an end in sight. As they round the latest switch back, they are stunned to see that they have reached an immense cliff where the tracks simply end.

Xull Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Warpac Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Searching furiously, the Pathfinders find a crevice in the rock. Pooking his head down, Warpac can confirm that there is a trap door down there.

Korasu uses 6 charges off his wand of Endure Elements. At breakfast, rather than making a cooking fire, he sets a pan on a rock and watches as it causes the bacon to sizzle. "Ah, I knew that wand would be a good purchase."

At the crevice

"Ah, I could climb that wall... or we can go through that cleverly hidden door that is likely our destination."

For the sake of clarity, trap door as in "a door that is hidden" or a "hidden door with a trap?"

Warpac After noticing the crevice, you then see the trap door. Being Dwarven and all, I thought it'd be thematic.

"Let's go! Take it slow, what's down there, we don't know!"

*Ahem* Pooka clears his throat with a smirk.

"Ahhh, could one of you cast this ant haul spell on me? C'mere Luna. Just relax, this is going to get awkward..."

Pooka looks at the other's strange looks as he adjusts some of the straps on his back to make larger loops to accomodate his dog.

"She carries me everywhere, I should be able to return the favor once in a while, right?" he chuckles at the others.

Pooka will also have spider climb cast on himself if a climb check is required. Otherwise he will save that resource. Just let me know!

Toorin admires the harsh landscape in silence, thinking it is likely a dwarf would find it more beautiful than most. While he prefers the grand forests of Kyonin, Toorin admires beauty in nature wherever he finds it. Still he keeps his mind focused on the trail and watching for signs of danger, only admiring the view when people stop to rest or discuss the path.

When they reach the cliff and it becomes obvious a climb is coming, he first gets out a wand and taps himself with it Mage Armor. Then he digs out his newly purchased climbing kit and tries to remember how to attach the crampons to his boots and other elements to make the climb easier. He feels a little foolish fiddling with such devices when others seem to take to the mountainside with no special equipment at all. He wishes, not for the first time, he had more time to develop such adventuring skills as climbing, swimming, and survival in the wilderness.

Taking 10 might not do it for Toorin. If he can secure himself to a rope tied at the top of the cliff, he'll do that for whatever extra bonus that gives in the climb. He has 50' of silk rope.

Reaching the fork in the path, Amarok bows deeply to Ammenopheus as he departs before getting back to the task at hand. He checks the trap door for any hidden malicious intent before setting off with his comrades. Before they begin to descend he politely holds out a scroll for Toorin.

"If you would not mind friend, would you cast Mage armour upon me once more?"

He turns to Pooka as he assembles straps for Luna,

"Be careful you don't get Dog Tired my friend" he grimaces slightly at the poor attempt at humour

He then begins a slow climb if needed.

Xull, Pooka, and Warpac Don't make me turn this thread around. And you are all grounded

Aided by climbing harness, magical augmentations, and old fashion outdoormanship, the Pathfinders easily open the untrapped door, and make their way down the cavern.

The Pathfinders see a roughly hewn tunnels that extends deeper into the mountain side. As they cautiously make their way into the mountains, they approach a large, airy chamber.

Enigmatic hieroglyphs cover just about every surface of this chamber excavated into the mountain. Bas-relief engravings stretch along the walls all the way from the lofty, tapered ceiling down to floor level, their eerie pictography suggesting an unnerving story. Toppled columns, crumbling shreds of cloth, and potsherds scattered throughout the chamber attest to the place’s abandonment and antiquity. Small holes in the vaulted ceiling let in thin beams of sunlight but do little to illuminate the chamber.

DC 20 Linguistics check:
The glyphs in the walls are extremely old, predating the creation of the Ancient Osiriani language but the pictography is mostly representative rather than symbolic, which facilitates comprehension. The pictograms tell the story of two monsters fallen from the stars in the aftermath of Earthfall.

DC 16 Knowledge (dungeoneering) check:
You recognize the creatures mentioned in the glyphs as akatas—bizarre two-tailed, lion-sized quadrupeds with tentacled manes encircling their necks.

Tremors and time have weakened the columns in this area, leaving them sturdy enough to climb, yet poorly anchored and easily toppled.

DC 15 Knowledge (engineering) check or DC 20 Perception:
You notice that the columns are toppling and given a good enough push, might actually fall over. So long as several columns were to remain standing, the room would not collapse.

column rules wrote:
Toppling a column requires a DC 15 Strength check as a standard action. A falling column strikes all creatures in a 15-foot line. These creatures take 5d6 bludgeoning damage (Reflex DC 18 for half ). If a falling column strikes another column, it attempts to topple that column with a +5 Strength bonus. Should the PCs knock over all of the columns, the temple’s ceiling begins to crumble. One minute later, the entire combat area is struck by a cave-in that blocks the tunnel to the east; however, if the PCs flee to the west, they can escape the collapse and continue the adventure.

The Pathfinders are once again able to pick up a set of tracks heading from east to west.

Warpac is definitely in his element here. His stride lengthens and his demeanor becomes more confident. He moves about the room, hands brushing the stonework and his eyes flitting over the writing.

A pity this place is such a mess, It must have been quite the home in its day, though those pictures suggest all was not quite restful. I wonder if dwarves used to live here.

Almost by habit he starts attempting minor repairs, putting this with that and tapping it into place, attempting to right a toppled dais, muttering to himself as he moves along.

"Can anyone read the writing? I replaced the scrolls we used so I could give someone the ability if no one knows this stuff. That is if it is writing and not just decorative pictures. Not sure if the scroll would help with a storyboard type of thing."

Toorin notices Warpac's interest in the room. Never understood a dwarf's fascination with being underground. I know they can see in the dark, but such places seem so dreary compared to an ancient forest, or even a homey glade of trees in the spring light, he thinks.

"I'm glad you could read that, Korasu. I couldn't quite make out some key parts. I do recognize the Azatas. Nasty creatures if tales about them are true."

After Pooka's and Korasu's exchange about the pillars, Toorin adds, "Pillars within pillars. Interesting. Do the pillars hold anything up or are they just decoration?" Toorin tries to imagine the workers who would have built such a thing toiling away. He pities them, since they were likely slaves and perhaps killed after the construction was done to keep the place secret. At least the Osirioni had a reputation for such tactics in their ancient tombs and secret temples.

"I know you daylighters find it hard to appreciate the deep, though one could hardly call this the deep," at this he gestures with his axe to the light poking its way through the various holes, "but I suspect you have never found yourself in a room of geodes illuminated by torchlight so reflected that the brightness stings, or a field of mushrooms so sensitive to light that they may only be harvested and eaten in the dark, or the profound sense of vastness caused by a chasm that reaches into the very center of the earth that can only be matched by the dayside sea, or... well I could go on and on. Now I love the woods myself. You may not know this but I am a changeling, or something of the sort, no one really knows, but the fey streak in me gives me a particular appreciation for both the dayside wild and the deepside wild. But it has been a LONG time since I've been back to the Five Kingdoms or any other underdwelling and, for the moment, I feel a little like I've returned home. Hopefully our journeys will run deeper."

Edit: Pretend this occurred before the GM announcement. Dang. 8 minutes.

He grips his lance in his hand, ready to lower it and plunge it deep into one of the festering minions of undeath.

Before Amarok moves, Toorin will cast Mage Armor on him from his wand. "Fortune favors the brave, but it helps to have some armor."

I did not see the map before Amarok moved, but if Toorin was within 5' for him before any movement, then Toorin will move south after casting. If not, he'll be close to where he started.

Hours, no days, spent in mindless training pay off as Amarok's muscle memory takes over. Grab, string, pull, exhale, shoot over and over. Three deadly arrows fly from his bow and pierce the other-worldly blue flesh of the akatas. He scampers in a southernly direction to make sure he can pierce the remaining foes with clear shots.

Before he starts his movement though, Toorin reaches out and cast a protective spell upon the unarmored Monk.

Korasu, arguing with himself about which enemy to target, loses, or wins, depends, and springs into action. Before the akata can even bare its fangs, the Tengu slices through it with his elven curved blade. Unsatisfied with his kill, he spring forth to challenge a new enemy, the disusing festrog.

He once again slices through undead flesh, this time, however, he ruptures a putrid pustule of a boil. The rotting flesh flies all over the Tengu, coating him in a nasty secrection.

Pooka spins Luna towards the hellish hound bearing down from the north. He feels the surge within him, and sees the threads of time slow down. He picks his spot, the one that shows he can move faster, do more than the regular thread.

With a short burst, Pooka explodes forward, lowering his lance tip to pierce the dog-like creature. spending 1 mythic power to activate fleet charge as a swift action, likely provokes an AoO from the yellow one.

Xûll flies into a rage, angered by Warpac's inaction. It seems the dwarf is doubting his ability to fell his opponent. It might be good strategy, but the bloodrager still resents it... or at least, that's the emotion he hangs onto as his arms grow in size and blood rushes to fill his eyes.

Dice Rolls | Tactical

Wheeling Luna into unnatural speeds, the trusty canine speeds across the temple, her master leaning down close to her to ease the weight on her haunches. The halfling and dog stride in sync, both shifting slightly without even thinking about it.

The festrog swipes out hoping to sink its teeth into halfling or dog.

Yellow bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

Missing horribly the festrog stares blankly at the Shoanti that is about to destroy it.

Just before reaching full stride, the halfling's lance explodes the pinkish/purplish undead. It explodes in a gut retching mass of puss and rotting flesh.

Undeterred, the duo wheel around and search for the otherworldly canine cowering behind the pillar. Lowering the lace, Pooka pierces the hound's hip, severely crippling it.

Stepping in the space recently vacated by by the half-ine/ cain-ling(looking for a cooler nickname), Xull slices the yellow frestrog in half. Still blankly looking at him, slowly the upper torso slides to the right, as it's lower half slides to the left. Entrails dropping to the floor in the puddle, both halves fall in opposite directions and it once more returns to the realm of the nonliving and most importantly, non-moving.

Warpac looks helplessly across the expanse of stone separating him from the remaining opponent. Knowing that his more fleet allies will most assuredly get there before him, unless he runs, which will not afford the chance to strike, he does the only thing he can. Trotting forward, the squat dwarf gives a mighty heave with an explosive grunt and hurls his axe at the dog-beast more in frustration than a serious attempt at felling it.
