"Very well," she says as her visitors decline the offer of a drink. Frankie's request for cocoa goes unanswered; indeed, she seems to mostly ignore the little man. She gives a signal to her assistant in the back, which incidentally gives the distinct impression that there might actually be more than one person in the back room.

At Shera's question she laughs, but it's a cold and calculating laugh. "You definitively stepped in something, and maybe you are in over your heads. You've got one thing wrong, at least. I am a firm supporter of Consul Andares, and I don't think he's going away any time soon." She spares another smile at Amahl's explanation. "Aid in the defense of the Worldwound? A very noble cause, I say. And one that probably requires quite extensive funding. I have some influence with the mayor, and I am sure that I can convince him to be very generous. All I request is that you leave Thalia in my care and forget about this business."

Thalia retorts angrily at this proposal. "I knew it! He's just trying to get rid of me, is he?!" She then addresses the Pathfinders. "I've suspected my farther of corruption for a while now. He has a lot of 'friends' in town and I assume Koriana is one of them. If I report my father's misconduct to the ombudsman's office, I am sure I can get him convicted. After that, I can provide the same financial backing my father could. Moreover, the Andoren people would surely rally behind me in that case. Even if it were to cost me my life, I'm willing to pay that price in the name of liberty and justice." She gives Koriana a defiant and smug look, although the half-elven woman doesn't seem fazed.

"Well, well.... Even if Tercio were to be convicted — not a guarantee, I should add — you might inherit his fortune, but not his titles. Only Tercio would be able to provide military aid through his consulship in addition to his family fortune. In fact," she says turning to the Pathfinders, "supporting Thalia will risk the stability of the entire region, triggering a veritable witch hunt for corrupt politicians that would harm innocent leaders and draw direct attention away from the Worldwound instead of toward it. Convicting Tercio could indirectly put the entire world at risk."

The inquisitor who had remained silent for the time being turned his coal eyes on Koriana before he spoke, this time the gravel voice returned when he adressed the woman. "You assume to much, I for one know Chelliax would welcome the destabilization of Andoran so that they have to focus on their internal witch hunts and thus allowing us to grow stronger. It would be a grand move to see that happen... Now, there is one other matter you might not enjoy to hear, but you are violating the law and thus it means you will have to be brought to justice and ensure that the young noble woman is to be returned home in safety, after that, her father will be brought to justice." He slowly raised himself to stand taller, tail flickering in anticipation "decide..."

Frankie continues to watch the discussion, feeling more and more nervous the whole time, his hand stays near his rapier pommel, knowing things aren't likely going to go peacefully. This is complicated business, at least now I know Yanda isn't the mastermind here. I wonder who's right? We can't just let them take away Thalia, that's not right!

Frankie finally pipes up "I'll protect you Thalia! No one's taking you away again!" He rushes up by her side and draws his rapier to show he means business.

Mushed everyone into the building, move if you don't like your position.

Koriana notices that Cypher is starting to cast a spell. "Fine," she sighs, adressing Farith. "I knew you were going to try this the hard way. Boys!" It seems like the men had expected the call and they spring into action, setting up around Koriana. They are two men, ruffians by the look or them, dressed in chain and wearing short short.

They're not Galtans. Just reusing tokens...

Farith is quick to act and scores an easy strike against the first of the two guard. His morningstar strikes deep against the man's flank, causing him to grunt and curse. "Hey! That's my brother," says the other. "You're going to pay for that!" Shera adds an arrow to the fray, but it's deflected by the man's armor.

Yanda throws a bomb, lobbing it deftly over the counter and at the alchemist. Koriana takes the full force of the blast, as does the guard standing next to her. "Oh, now you've done it," she says coldly, dropping any pretense. "The law. We were doing just fine here until you decided to meddle in affairs. Don't think I'll go to the slaughter like a meek lamb."

Yanda spots the assistant peeking around the door to the backroom. "Oh dear..."

Amahl joins the fray, but his attack is parried by the guard. "Don't worry, ma'am," he calls despite his wounds. "We've got this."

Koriana doesn't look so sure and sighs. "If it has to come to this..." She tosses a bomb at the most dangerous-looking of her attackers, the tiefling. She assumes that he'll be easy to hit, but miscalculates the bustle of the fight, and her bomb scatters. Both of the guards are caught unaware by the friendly fire and take some burn wounds. Farith and Amahl are caught in the blast as finally.

Finally, a portion of the blast hits several containers on the shelf next to Amahl, which promptly explode in a bright flash of orange light! The guard next to the shelf manages not to get blinded; He had just turned his head to look at Koriana. "Watch out with those things!"

A few containers in the shelf next over also start to sizzle dangerously from the explosion, but the fire quickly extinguishes itself. It seems like a chain reaction was just prevented!

Cypher grits their teeth. Not how I intended this to go down..

Frankie! Keep away the baddies from me and the alchemist! I'll handle her!

Cypher flicks their hands out and lets the magic flow throw them, grasping at the alchemists mind, warping their thoughts.

Charm Person, DC 17

It's far to dangerous to throw bombs here. You should stay still, let your guards handle things. No sense in risking your own life. Stay back, let others risk their lives, it's better to just stay safe and not do anything... The law abiding simpletons will obviously let you go unharmed if you don't provoke them...

Little Frankie's stunt looks dashing, but his cautious way of attacking is not enough to faze Koriana. Cypher then casts their spell and tries to persuade Koriana. "Fine," she growls. "Tell that to that bomb-throwing 'friend' of yours. You're saying they'll let me leave?"

The two brothers defending them don't really understand what's happening, but they're loyal to the alchemist. One of them turns to lash into Frankie, while the other continues to attack Farith. Both of them fail to connect, however. Frankie easily dodges the attack directed at him, while the attack aimed at Farith strikes the inquisitor's shield.

Not sure if I can keep talking off turn. If not, I'll say this on my turn.

Cypher takes a step closer to the alchemist and continues their conversation, their tattoos glowing with slight power as the spell holds.

Of course they'd let you go... think about it... we're just some goodie two shoe idiots who just stumbled into this... we don't know what's REALLY going on... why... you could tell us everything, make sure Consul Andares takes the blame for everything. You could walk away scot free! The guards, they just overreacted to protect you, you would have NEVER ordered them to attack people! And wouldn't Thalia be oh so grateful to the person who helped overthrow her father's evil plot? It doesn't really matter who's in power after all, does it? Just that you are in the best position when the dust settles, right?

Cypher takes a moment to give Thalia a pointed look, hoping she takes the hint not to contradict them about the obvious lie. The charm would probably guarantee it didn't hurt, but it was hard enough to assert control of someone while combat raged.

Yanda peeks around the edge of the door into the room and sees a nice quiet corner. She slips past Thalia and takes up position in said corner, evaluating the situation.

Well, tossing a bomb does not look like such a great idea at the moment. I guess I'll just relax back here and be the reinforcements if needed. If anyone gets too beat up I can always heal them. It's kind of nice, actually, not being chased around a castle or something with the rest of the team unconscious or off doing their own thing :)

After moving, Yanda pulls out her wand of cure light wounds and leans up against the wall.

"I wouldn't do that again Koriana. This is YOUR shop after all. I'll lay off the bombs if you do. Wouldn't want to start this place on fire, out of respect to a fellow professional."

Farith doesn't mess about and strikes at the remaining guard's head. His hit leaves the man bleeding and staggered, swaying on his feet. "Yield," he coughs weakly as he hold his hands up in surrender. "Yield..."

Koriana steadies herself against the counter, noting that the battle has turned to her disadvantage quickly. She misinterprets the look passing between Cypher and Thalia, and considers for a moment. "Well, I suppose. With everything that's been going on. Really, I hadn't expected that from you, Thalia. But it doesn't matter, really." She then regards the group of Pathfinders. "I have some documents, you know. Missives from Tercio. You can have them, if I can get guarantees that I can go free." She considers Cypher a friend, obviously, but she's still a very cynical and distrusting person. Also, the documents probably would implicate the alchemist herself as well.

Thalia doesn't quite understand what the Pathfinders' plan is - or whether they even have a plan - but the fighting seems to have stopped and she's adopting a bland look. She makes sure that she stays near the door, at least.

I'm not leaving initiative mode yet, but at the moment there are no enemy combatants. It's up to you on how to approach this further.

Cypher grits their teeth in frustration.

thrice damned truthful idiots!

"please, ignore my overzealous and obviously mistaken compatriots who should be quiet while the nice civilized folk talk sense about obtaining everything we need. Clearly it was I who prompted the hostilities. You are in no danger. Please, give me the missives and I will do everything in my power to ensure that you are set free. Just give me the missives."

They're like a bunch of cats. At least they're good at pounding their way out of trouble. I guess that includes me, huh?

Yanda occasionally shakes her head as the charm/threat conflict goes on and half the group barge into the back room while the other half stay and try diplomacy.

Maps: Absalom Initiation

Frankie and Shera find the assistant in the back room, pacing nervously. He has a vial in his hand. "I was just going to hand Miss. Verdothia a healing potion. She was hurt in this ugly bomb-throwing business." He doesn't quite know what to do with himself, and shuffles to take a peek into the room.

Cypher seems convincing, but hasn't actually demonstrated any power to make the other Pathfinders do as they say. Koriana makes a face as she looks at Amahl and Farith. "I'm leaving," she says to the two men as she clambers over the counter and elbows her way past Thalia. "You don't actually need my help finding the documents," she says to Cypher with a sigh. "You're a clever lot, you should find them without my help."

She seems ready to push her way past Yanda.

This movement provokes an attack of opportunity from Farith, if he'd like to make it.

The Tiefling near casually swung the morningstar at the woman as she tried to move past him. "Sorry, but you aren't allowed to leave, kidnapping is a dirty business and you crossed the lines of the law. Stay..."

"I knew it," the half-elven alchemist snarls as Farith attacks her. The tiefling's strike smashes Koriana against one of the shelves and leaves her on the ground, unconscious and bleeding to death.

Yanda is not budging. She's going to need to do something interesting to get past. She would have preferred a grapple out of Farith rather than a bruising blow from the mace, but she's come to expect that reaction from Farith, leader of the 'threat' group.

Amahl sighs deeply and moves over to the woman. He looks toward the others. "She is a criminal, but she must live to face trial. I have a wand here that will heal her, but I need someone with the skill to use it." He hands his wand to whoever can use it and sets about tying the alchemist's hands tightly and gagging her.

"Cypher, lying in the service of good only lowers us to the level of these criminals. Farith was right: she has admitted to a crime and should face justice. Let us heal her friends well enough to move them and see to bringing them to Captain Demrick immediately."

Once the woman is secured and her mooks secured and healed enough to be out of immediate danger of death, Amahl sighs. "Now, let's see if we can find those papers. Search this place, but be careful. I'd hate to damage the wares."

By the time that Koriana has been tied up, Shera has determined that the potion is, in fact, a healing potion. She uses it to bring Koriana back to consciousness. Meanwhile, Amahl searches for the papers. However, he comes up empty.

I've taken some liberties with the timing, but I'll assume Koriana will be tied up, by someone. After that, this way will save Amahl one charge of his wand.

Cipher rubs their temples at the display of violence. "good grief...." At the little speech from the monk, Cypher rounds on him, obviously furious.

"listen here you self righteous pompous friar, my JOB is to lie in the service of good. My job is to lie, cheat, manipulate, and worse so that high minded trolls like you and our flaming tin can here can sleep at night. You want to preach to me about "lowering myself"? Which one of us here has been spilling blood all day and would have happily murdered everyone here if my magic and lies hadn't calmed them down?

They flip out their fan, clearly to hide the rage in their face than any practical reason.

"but what does it matter. Me and others like me will do our jobs, regardless of "permission" from you."

Amahl shakes his head. "Using their tools only lowers you to their level. You are better than that. If you consider it a challenge to lie and cheat, then imagine what a challenge it would be to accomplish the same goals without those tools."
