L'Mont Penumberton |
As this appears the only way to learn anything about the first floor beyond the one room Luwei looked into, L'Mont follows Glastor. For 30 minutes.
Reads spoiler.
Leaving Glastor to tell the others what he saw, L'Mont goes into the decrepit library to see if any of the books or scrolls are salvageable.
Seems like this is the room Luwei is in?
Checking for softness in the floor, L'Mont moves carefully into the room. He approaches the bookshelves slowly, to look more closely at what's there.
Perception, take 20: 20 + 5 = 25
Let me know if you need any more checks.
Glastor Gilderhoff III |
After wandering, Glastor says, "Nothing to report. Guess we go upstairs?"
GM Dinketry |
Ushi does not believe that there is any danger to using the southern staircase, having taken time to examine it.
L'Mont breaks away from Glastor when he sees the decrepit study. Luwei has found it as well, and begins picking through the shelves. L'Mont moves to inform his colleagues and returns to look alongside Luwei.
Luwei, you may read Glastor's previous spoiler.
At this moment, in the ballroom, Glastor returns to Ushi's side and suggests heading upstairs.
Mongo DePon |
Mongo hears Ushi tell him to watch out for Glastor and turns around to find him. In the time it takes him to look, though, the gnome has already disappeared into a doorway. It takes a few moments to find Glastor, after which Mongo follows him around, trying to stay in the doorway of each room so as to see Glastor and as many other members of his party as possible at any given time.
"You sure you don't want to do another lap, Glastor? You seemed to be having fun."
L'Mont Penumberton |
L'Mont notes the topic of the remaining books and - after making sure Luwei has had time to peruse them (and roll a knowledge check, as L'Mont knows nothing useful) - slips them into his pack to bring back to Mai Chun.
Once he realizes the fabric on the floor is more clothing, the piles grab his attention.
"This is not disturbing at all."
As before, he picks through them with his daggers, looking for ash (and anything else of interest).
"Luwei, what do you make of this?"
Feng Luwei |
Know(planes): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Know(arcana): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
As Glastor explores, Luwei peruses the books in the study, looking for any legible text.
"I'm not sure what it might mean, but from the arrangement of the remains, it does not appear to be the result of any conflict. An accident perhaps? Some mass transportation gone terribly wrong?"
GM Dinketry |
L'Mont and Luwei have salvaged the moldy and highly-eroded remains of two books - though you had to shake out the worms from one of them. Their titles are faded and lichen covered.
L'Mont picks through the piles of clothes, noting considerable bits of ashen residues in the folds.
Mongo DePon |
[i]It's just a buncha moldy old books. What's so interesting?[i]
"Alright, I'm headed up." Mongo says, and then Mongo does.
GM Dinketry |
Map updated!
L'Mont and Luwei return to the main ballroom and share their findings with the others. As they do so, Mongo starts up the stairs.
Ushi Goroshi |
Ushi mounts the stairs, keeping even with Mongo. "Age and nature appear to be all that remains here." he muses.
Glastor Gilderhoff III |
Glastor follows the rest up the stairs.
GM Dinketry |
Glastor and Luwei may read Mongo's spoiler.
You have a few choices to explore. The two closed doors ahead of you on the southern wall of the hallway, the large open passages (which look like an intersecting hall) to the east, or the smaller passageway to the southwest. There are two small doors on either side of the large open passages to the north and south - they appear smaller in size than the other doors in the hall.
L'Mont Penumberton |
Time to be the rogue.
"I'll check one of the doors across the hall."
L'Mont moves slowly and carefully across the hallway. He does not trust the floor here, so the wayang tests the space ahead of him with one foot at each step before putting his weight on it and moving to the next.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
At the door, as quietly as he can, he checks for traps, and listens for anything moving on the other side.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (20) + 14 = 34
GM Dinketry |
Wow, what a Stealth check!
The wayang creeps across the hall and listens to the door.
The hall sits quietly, a peaceful feeling pervading the decrepit solitude.
Mongo DePon |
Mongo walks down to the intersection, looking down both directions.
GM Dinketry |
Only Mongo may act at present to the changes on the map.
Mongo DePon |
"Oh, um, hullo." Mongo says aloud, then quickly shoots a glance over to his teammates.
GM Dinketry |
The figure bows with studied grace once she reaches a standing position, though her feet seem to blur and fade as they reach to the floor. She opens her mouth to speak, her voice an ethereal calm.
"Wǒ shì yǐ gù gōngzhǔ sòng ruì. Wènhòu, lǚxíng zhě. Nǐ zhàn zài yíhéyuán. Wǒ duōnián méiyǒu shōu dào fǎngkè. Gàosù wǒ; nǐ jiào shénme míngzì?"
Mongo thinks he recognises the native tongue that the figure uses, but he understands none of it.
Bolty |
perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
Bolty looks back and forth to his companions as he lowers hiss crossbow from his shoulder and into both hands and ready to fire.
"Did you hear that?" Bolty asks as he nods towards the end of the hall.
Glastor Gilderhoff III |
Perception : 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
"Hear what?t asks the blissfully distracted gnome.
GM Dinketry |
Ushi, your nagaji ears detected an otherworldly voice coming from up ahead. You surmise that the half-orc is referring to that.
Ushi Goroshi |
Ushi finishes moving up to Mongo and peers in. "Ah."
GM Dinketry |
The ghostly apparition bows to the nagaji.
Ushi Goroshi |
Ushi bows low, speaking rapidly in Tien. "My friends, we have an audience with a deceased princess. Luwei and I can translate for you." Ushi adds in Taldane.
L'Mont Penumberton |
"All right, seems like this door is safe. Mongo, you want to open it?"
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
L'Mont looks around for the sturdy fighter, and seems him further down the hall. Whispering to himself, L'Mont stalks down the corridor. On his way, he hears a calm voice murmuring, but can't make out what it's saying. He doesn't see anyone else, so he assumes the voice belongs to Mongo or Ushi.
"Look, what's the point of me sneaking over checking the first door if you're going go off and... What the hell?"
L'Mont stares at the apparition.
** spoiler omitted **
Ushi bows low, speaking rapidly in Tien. "My friends, we have an audience with a deceased princess. Luwei and I can translate for you." Ushi adds in Taldane.
"Yeah, that sounds good."
GM Dinketry |
"Please good sir," Song Rui says to Ushi, "do enlighten me. I estimate that I have passed the time of at least two centuries in solitude here. I can tell you that imperial Lung Wa is likely no more, but do tell me of what has come to pass of the forlorn people of the former kingdom."
She makes no move toward those that see her. Your sense of peace and tranquility deepen in this chamber.
Bolty |
Bolty looks nervously for a moment before allowing the tranquility to flow into him as he once again props his crossbow on his shoulder.
Bolty however waits for the more diplomatic or scholarly of hiss companionss to answer.
Glastor Gilderhoff III |
Glastor casts comprehend languages and moves in. token not moved
"A deceased princess, Ushi! That seems interesting! How is she talking? Is she undead?"
Ushi Goroshi |
Speaking Tien."As she is a princess of Lung Wa, we are conversing in Tien, Glastor." Ushi responds, turning back to the apparation. "Forgive me for confirming your suspicions. The time of Imperial Lung Wa is long past. We have traveled many lengths of the successor states finding the path to this Summer Palace, and have seen new nations thriving in their own ways. I will tell you as much as I can of what I have learned since leaving Nagajor. If it would not be too painful, I would hear how you came to remain here after your passing." Ushi will quickly relay the gist of the conversation to the rest in Taldane.
GM Dinketry |
The apparition named Song Rui seems pleased to see more of you as L'Mont and Glastor come into view.
GM Dinketry |
Ninja'd by Ushi!
Song Rui seems very interested in hearing all about the successor states.
She continues on, her voice an ethereal calm laced now with sadness.
Ushi Goroshi |

"Most unfortunate. It seems your mother was mistaken only in part, as there was at least one vanishing of a god. None know for certain that he died, but his passing was very close to the collapse of the empire of your time."
GM Dinketry |
Song Rui seems shaken at Ushi's news. Apparitions of tears well up in her eyes.

"She is talking about Desna!" exclaims Glastor, as he pulls out his holy symbol. aTell her that the gods still live! There are many of them! But Desna is my patron, that is true"
"You are correct, though, the passing of Aroden has caused Golarion a good deal of harm. "
Mongo DePon |
Mongo looks back and forth between the princess, and Ushi, and the rest of the party, trying to keep up with the hastily translated conversation.
Ushi Goroshi |
"I believe that you are the foremost expert on the glories of Imperial Lung Wa, highness. We would be honored to transcribe your history as best as we are able to expand our Society's knowledge of these lands. As well, our benefactor has sent with us a request to locate the final prophecies of the last emperor of Lung Wa. We were led to believe you carried them. With your blessing, we would take them from here, ideally with your understanding of their meaning."
GM Dinketry |
Song Rui cocks her head to the side.
She also states:
Ushi Goroshi |
Tien:"We serve many interests. Our contact in these lands is a friend of one of our honored captains, named Mai Chun." Ushi nods slightly at the admission. "If these prophecies are not in residence here, then we would have to content ourselves with any knowledge that you might share with us. If it would not offend, might my allies investigate your quarters while we speak?"
Taldane: "I have asked permission to search her quarters for the scroll case we seek. Hopefully the princesses spirit will not be angered by this."
GM Dinketry |
Song Rui does not appear to be offended.
She continues on.
The apparition of Song Rui drifts through the throne.
Ushi Goroshi |
Tien: "We were bid to find any remaining symbols of Lung Wa for recovery and display in her homeland of Shokuro. She is not a ruler, but well respected among the people."
Taldane: "We have her blessing to take any surviving relics, but it seems her quarters are buried."
