Niza studies the flowers intently. “Hey, guys! These are heart-eater blossoms. They are inanimate carnivorous plants that feed on the blood and marrow of cadavers. They can usually be found in northern Avistan and are most prominent in Sarkoris.”

Looking closer, Niza notices two growths of unusual flowers. “Oh! And these are carnivorous plants known as xtabays. They are super aggressive!” She points to the middle flowers which lean to the right; not the four that lean left. “These ones.” She then notices motes of the xtabays drifting in the clearing ahead. “Steer clear of those,” she says pointing to the motes. “They’ll make you really sleepy.”

Ýridhrendir looks at the flora mentioned with curious eyes. "Thank you for your warning Niza. We will be certain to give those a wide berth."

Then he pauses, apparently in thought, "Given that we are tracking kobolds that seem to have a necromancer of sorts with them, and the nature you mentioned of those heart-eater blossoms, wouldn't plants such as these indicate the presence of dead bodies? I wonder if this is somehow connected."

At 5th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +4 at 17th level. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. Having had quite enough... "I ain't dyin' to no stupid plants!" The rest of the orc's tirade does not seem fit for polite company. The enraged paladin swings at nearest of these leafy attackers.

Seeing Kord has things well in hand up close, Ren takes his crossbow from his hip and levels it at the flying leaf ray...

...but his aim is poor and the bolt flies far from it's mark.

"Whoa Bert did you see that? Bert?" The questions come from a rather pallid looking miner in the centre of the clearing. he looks around. Then asks you "Have you seen Bert?" and then if suddenly remembering something adds "Where did all the kobolds go? And who are you anyways?"

Kaya let's out a little whoop of glee as her bolt strikes true and the leaf thing drops to the ground.

Ahmande feels like maybe he needs to be the bearer or bad news. "Sir, I'm going to hope that this isn't your friend, but there is a body out here. "There were about a dozen of us taken from the gold crown mining camp. The kobolds wanted us alive for some reason and were rushing us somewhere I have no clue where in this valley they were taking us. The trail seems pretty clear." he sits down. He is showing no signs of wounds but is very drained. "I am in no state to help rescue my friends and I will only slow you down. I will make my way to the foot of that climb and await you there. Just give me a moment some food would be good "

As you look around the clearing you see the remains of some well equipped adventurers. Including a suit of +1 studded leather armor, a masterwork scimitar, and two potions of cure light wounds. In addition, several of the plants growing here are key components in expensive medicines, and the PCs can harvest sundry alchemical and medicinal reagents worth 100 gp.

"I understand, sir. Here, take one of my rations." replies the half-blood, earnestly handing the man a bit of food. "We'll come back for you then, hopefully with the rest of your friends in tow."

Scanning the items, his heart skips a beat at the sight of the armor. "Uh, if none of you mind, I'll gladly borrow that piece of leather there."

Would take the +1 studded leather without hesitation, unless someone else with light armor could use it better. Kord should probably take one of the potions.

As the group gathers the various items, and makes preparations to leave, Ren helps Gruk change into the new armor.

Looking back to the group, "We had best be on our way. The man said they were in a rush to get wherever they were going. With luck it isn't much further along the path right there..." he says pointing.

Good idea for Kord to take one of the potions, but someone else take the second one.

Ahmande nods his head in agreement. "I too have a good wand for healing, and I've never used a scimitar. Well-made or not, I don't think I'd do much good with it."

He helps harvest some of the useful plant items, and will carry the second potion if nobody else speaks up for it. He then looks up the continuing path. "We shouldn't dally. Shall we go?"

The scimitar looks to be small sized. Gruk takes the armour. Kord takes one potion and Yridhrendir is left holding the other. You press on and come to where a deep ravine divides the valley. It is bridged only by an ancient and crumbling span of stone reinforced by haphazard wooden reinforcements. A pair of ancient dwarven statues flanks either side of the bridge, each in considerable disrepair. An ancient stone building partly consumed by the jungle is visible across the ravine.

Niza looks disdainfully over the items and commands Albis to defend her as they walk.

As they walk out of the clearing she spies a glint of metal. Looking closer she finds a shiny metal curved sword. Picking it up and making a few practice cuts, it feels very well balanced. Hmm... this might not do as much, but could be easier to handle. I think I’ll hold onto it. She holsters her spear and follows after the group, scimitar in hand.

Coming up to the stone bridge, she takes a long look at the rickety wood supports. “I think Albis could probably jump that rickety part, but I doubt I could make it.” She pulls out a coiled silk rope. ”Shall we at least tie this off to whomever goes across?”
