Kyra summons a spiritual weapon to harass the demon but pays it no mind....
Im not sure on the rules, but if Kyra's spiritual weapons can take AOO it can
Spiritual weapon specifically doesn't give flanking bonuses but I would guess it threatens (tiny creatures don't flank, but do threaten the square they are in i.e. the one they have to be in in order to attack). I guess it falls to GM interpretation. I neglected to check against SR, but force damage usually cuts through most DR. Did it not seem to care that it was wounded (because it has like 400 hps) or that it was unaffected at all by the attack, as it would be hard for me to roll better than a 20 on d20 I might have to reconsider my next action. Maybe the demons are an illusion generated by an evil army ant hive mind creeping up behind us?
GM Z..D.. |
No you are correct. I forgot that spiritual weapon deals force damage, which bypasses DR, so that is completely on me. So yes a nat 20 does hit, however it did not confirm. As for the Hit Point total, you would need a separate knowledge check. But it is not quite 400

After the PCs defeat the daemons, Arkar approaches to apologize for his earlier accusations. He also confesses that several years ago, he replaced the authentic cradle with a duplicate, aiming to prove to Yukaza that the relics of Malikeen hold no actual power. He offers to show the PCs where the true cradle is hidden.
As soon as the PCs bring the candle of conveyance close to the second relic, they complete their mission for Bakten.
The flame burns blue, but moments later it begins to flare and
sputter madly, coruscating through the spectrum until it settles
on blood red. Within the frantic candle, images appear: first, a jagged black pagoda, then the image of a blue-skinned woman, her hair like a black shroud. Her jaws distend and erupt with fangs. Bakten’s face appears, his eyes wide with pain and terror. He falls from view and the candle’s flame winks out.
The PC's are obliged to return to Amanandar to return the candle to Bakten. Upon arriving at Bakten’s sanctuary, they find his pooka servant aggrieved. Twig acts as a telepathic eyewitness, showing the PCs the following mental images: Bakten meditating, Bakten horror stricken, and Bakten’s body evaporating.
Tears streak the pooka’s tiny face as she says, “Bakten so gone. But gone-gone? Great Beyond. Show candle, yes?”
Twig is asking if she can examine the candle of conveyance, hoping to determine if Bakten has truly passed to the Outer Planes. If the PCs bring out the magic item, they receive a shock: the extinguished candle re-ignites itself, burning with a small, pale flame. Twig’s sorrow turns to joy. “Walk-lookers! Hope burns! New Bakten means new answers soon!”
Chronicles will be posted in the discussion page shortly. I will post the start of part 2, hopefully by tonight.

Part 2
Since the death of Venture-Captain Bakten Shengrah, New Oppara has been in mourning. The heavens echo the city’s grief, bestowing shrouds of inky storm clouds on the city, rolling down from the Zi Ha Mountains to the north. On orders from the Lantern Lodge, all local Pathfinders have cloistered themselves within the samsaran guru’s sanctuary, combing his libraries for clues that might explain the strange resuscitation of Bakten’s candle of conveyance, for none of the sages of Amanandar can explain how the candle still burns when Bakten’s soul has departed.
As the black clouds hurl blizzards from above, an unlikely source of aid appears at the sanctuary’s gates: an elderly elven noblewoman stumbles in, frostbitten and half-delirious. “I came to atone,” she cries, “Bakten was once Malash—a hero. But what was Malash next? That evil woman! I loathed her so. I thought she stole my love’s heart, and blamed her next life, Bakten, too! But if he knew nothing of his own veiled life?” Her ancient hands clutch a weather-beaten scroll case, as if it were a lifeline. “Tell me he is not dead, please!” She begs, “If Bakten is fallen, I fear the shrouded one may rise and doom us all!”
Everyone instantly recognizes her as Lady Ishigo Shiori. You may aske her any questions you have.
Lurgh |
It is true, the time of Bakten is over. His life has come to its end. Perhaps you should tell us of this shrouded one you fear then.
As before, will cast extended mage armor on himself and Amarok at the start of each day.
GM Z..D.. |
In reference to the shrouded one.“Jujanil, the evil creature who stole my love’s heart. I was certain that she was one of Bakten’s past lives, a being of the same soul, but now I am not so sure. I made a terrible mistake, and now we may be doomed.”
Kyra, Light in the Darkness |
"And what was this mistake?" Kyra asks her mood depressed by the poor weather. She is holding a hot tea. "Come in and tell us."
GM Z..D.. |
“When I learned that Bakten was nearing the end of his cycle of reincarnation, I sought to fulfill an old oath—to kill the woman who stole my one true love. I arranged for some assassins to visit Bakten, as I believed he was once that same woman. But the truth is more horrible." She pauses for a moment to calm herself before starting again. "After you Pathfinders visited Jinin, I realized if Bakten himself recalled nothing of the shrouded one, then perhaps she was a separate soul entirely. I sent one of my daughters to ransack Ryuu’s chambers. I had to know what creature had ensnared him centuries ago. She brought me this scroll.”
Trembling, Shiori proffers a letter from Jujanil to Mata Ryuu.
After she lets you read the letter she begins explaining her interpretations. “What if this ‘other soul’ she speaks of is Malash and Bakten? What if Jujanil were somehow separated from her other incarnations and is waiting, now, for Bakten’s soul to leave, before she can arise?”

"Hmm, well, Fumeiyoshi, Lord of Envy, is one of the 20 prominent deities of Tian Xia. He was once known as the God of Night. However, he grew jealous of his brother Tsukiyo’s love for the goddess Shizuru. This envy led him to fratricide, and he became the patron of dishonor, envy, graves, and undead. Fumeiyoshi often manifests to his worshipers as a nearly skeletal crimson humanoid with three eyes, jagged tusks, and twisted claws. His unholy symbol is a red demonic face, and his sacred animal is a wolf, sometimes shown devouring a freshly killed hare, the sacred animal of his brother Tsukiyo. His favored weapon is the naginata.
Amarok Sandstrider |
Amarok listens to the tale and frowns, sad that such a long-lived creature would make such a mistake over something like the scorn for a love rival. Keeping the thought to himself however, the Monk speaks carefully as if choosing his next words to not cause offense, though as usual the result is very stiff and formal.

The arduous journey into the Wild Peaks in southern Zi Ha takes approximately 10 days on foot. In the lowlands, PCs can obtain directions from yak herders, but no amount of persuasion convinces the locals to accompany them to the accursed Black Grave Tower. The only trail leads through a 3-mile-long pass surrounded by steep cliffs. The high altitude, combined with punishing cold, fierce winds, and constant snowfall, make this region exceedingly hostile to travelers.
So the good news is, since you just completed part one, you can activate the Statuette and you do not have to worry about the severe cold or the high altitude. Still face some penalties from wind and snow fall. But I will calculate them when appropriate.
A crude wooden sign juts from the ice at the foot of a natural stair formation. Beyond, the mountain’s ridge drops away suddenly.
A sudden drop signals the end of one range and the beginning of another. Far below, the cracking squawk of shifting ice answers the thunder in the sky above. A rope bridge extends across the gap, flapping like a flag in the relentless winds. The far end is shrouded in spirals of snow.
The choice is yours. You can attempt cross the bridge or find another way to cross the chasm. If you choose to cross the bridge, tell me who is going first. Added note, if you wish to move faster than 5 feet at a time on the bridge, you will need to make a reflex DC 16 check, to keep from getting flung of the bridge.
