If Borax needs to do this without getting caught...

GM_Ragged |
The tank made made from sheets of magically reinforced glass. However, the joints are sealed with putty, and Borax just happens to have a solvent that will eat through it.
Under the pretence of watching the fight, he sneaks forward and smears the fast-acting solvent over the joints before retreating.
With a crash of falling glass and a roar of cascading water, the tank falls appart, dumping several tons of river water and two very angry predators into the crowd.
There are cries, screams, panic and general chaos.
[/ooc]OK, let's have initiative rolls. To move through the panicked crowd will require a DC12 check, either Escape Artist to weave through, or Intimidate to push them out of the way. If you want to approach the door to the office casually, that requires a DC15 stealth check as well. There are penalties for failure, so you can't take 10 on any of these.[/ooc]
Can't post a map cos I'm at work, but one successful full round move will bring you behind the bar to the office door.
Kitoro |
intimidate: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Kit, in anticipation of the moment, had already made her way near the door, using casual flicks of her whip to open the way. As soon as the commotion started she became completely unnoticed.
Kitoro |
OK. Typically (at least in other games I've played) the GM makes init rolls so I hadn't realized you wanted us to.
init: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Borax Bulan |
Borax, lacking the agility to maneuver through the crowd attempts to influence them to move in the direction he wants to go and then lets himself be carried along,
"I believe the exit is this way everyone...." Bluff (in place of intimidate if allowed): 1d20 + 12 + 1d6 ⇒ (19) + 12 + (2) = 33
Init: 1d20 ⇒ 6
//Jazmine\\ |
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Jazmine easily makes it to her feet and begins making way through the chaos to come to the door unnoticed in the mayhem.
GM_Ragged |
While Balomar and Kyra hang back, Jazmine, Borax and Kitoro try to make their way through the chaos to the door leading to Ichon's office.
Let's see if she spots you
Ichon Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
"Bellu - stop them!" screams the summoner as she spots the subterfuge. The tall female warrior struggles to move through the crowd towards the bar.
You will get 3 rounds to act before the eidolon makes it through the crows - more if Balomar or Kyra move to tackle her. The three of you are currently outside the door to Ichon's office. Actions?
Kitoro |
"Oh, oh."
Kit darts inside and begins searching.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Balomar |
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Balomar moves to intercept Bellu, "I would ask you to step aside and let us question your master, but I'm afraid that would fall on deaf ears."
Borax Bulan |
From the open door, Borax spend a round looking for traps.

"Borax, over here! Open this safe."
When and if Borax begins working on the safe, Kitoro will murmur encouraging words infused with magic to bolster his attempt.
Inspire Competence: +2 competence bonus to disable device skill.
If he does not, she will try herself, though I think either will have to wait since both picking the lock and bardic performance require a standard action and I'm not sure if I have one left.
Borax Bulan |
I'll attempt to pick the lock. Just wanted to try and make sure there are no traps.
"If you wouldn't mind pulling my lockpick tools from my haversack?"
Kitoro |
You trying to save time by having Kit pull the tools? Not sure she has an action right now.
//Jazmine\\ |
Jazmine follows the group into the office, but shrugs her shoulder at the questioning looks. "I don't pick locks, I break them.." she says, before catching on to the conversation. She deftly swipes the tools out of his pouch, and hands them to Borax. "Get moving. I will hold the door and buy you as much time as I can." She turns back to the door and draws her blade, blocking the door with her body.

Seeing bodyguard trying ti stop her friends Kyra exclaims:
"By the word of Sarenarea, I command you to stop!" Casting Hold person at Bellu, DC 16
GM_Ragged |
Noone is currently threatening the three in the office, so there is no need to stay in init. We'll have you reroll for init as and when you join the battle in the taproom.
Out In The Taproom
Balomar steps up and challenges the Amazon giant, who turns to face him. She grins a grin that is just a little too uncomfortably wide for a normal human face, and attempts to backhand the paladin as a normal human might swat a mosquito.
Bellu slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 5) + 9 = 17
The blow rips through Balomar's defenses, and sends the paladin reeling.
Ichon shrieks, and scrabbles at her belt, drawing a flask and taking a big gulp. She vanishes.
Kyra stands, and attempts to channel the power of the Dawnflower at the eidolon.
Unfortunately, hold person only affects humanoids, and eidolons, even ones that look humanoid, are outsiders, so...
She feels the magic of the spell twist and warp, sliding off the amazon bodyguard like honey off a hot knife.
Taproom Rotation:
Balomar - may post
Bellu
Ichon

In the Office
Borax, having found no traps, works feverishly on the lock. Triumphantly, he turns it with a click, and the heavy metal door swings open. Inside the small safe are an untidy bundle of papers, a small coffer, and a wooden rack holding four stoppered glass flasks, labelled respectively "Opium", "Shiver", "Poison" and "Senzer"
Balomar |
"Just as I thought... well, if that's the way you want to proceed..." With a quick motion, Balomar heals nearly all of the damage he sustained from the eilodon, and then swings his falchion in a powerful attack upon Bellu.
LoH(self): 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 5, 3) + 6 = 16
Power Attack w/ +1 Adamantine Falchion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 for slashing damage of : 2d4 + 13 ⇒ (2, 4) + 13 = 19
Kitoro |
"Poison? Why keep poison in a safe? How curious."
Kit grabs the coffer first, her priorities being what they are, and the flask labelled senzer second and heads toward the door - and out if she can, knowing Borax will gravitate towards the papers if she is any judge of character.
I sure hope he keeps his payroll in this!
Kyra //pregen |
I know that it doesn't affect outsiders, but Kyra doesn't know Bella IS eidolon. NO to metagame ;)
"She's even not a human! Balomar, Dawnflower will protect you!" casting shield of faith on him (+2 deflection bonus to AC
Borax Bulan |
As Borax hears the commotion outside, he makes a mental note to have everyone use different names when they leave the establishment. Borax left with only the papers to collect, does so and drinks his extract of shield. +4 to AC for three minutes
"Now, we have to deal with Ichon"
@ Kyra, I think the presumption is that Borax communicated to you that the big one was the eidelon. For the sake of clutter, I haven't been repeating what the GM states that Borax learns from his skill checks as I have been assuming everyone understood Borax was sharing the information automatically.
Kitoro |
Borax left with only the papers to collect, does so and ...
There are also three stoppered glass flasks, labelled respectively "Opium", "Shiver", and "Poison".
//Jazmine\\ |
As the companions clean out the safe, Jazmine calls out through the thinning crowd to Ichon. "Call off your hound. We have business to discuss. I doubt you wish your fine establishment here to be wrecked any more than it already has been.."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19
In an aside to those with her, she says softly "Roll with this.. we are just muscle hired for the antidote. Borax, try and see what you can find out from those papers real quick."
Borax Bulan |
If Jazmine wants Borax to read the papers, then Kit should grab the other flasks. Not sure why Kit would leave the others as it will be obvious why we are here if that is the only flask that is taken.
@GM - how long will it take to read the papers?
GM_Ragged |
Please see the map at the top of the page. Please let me know if you can't see it or move your token. The woman is Bellu - Ichon is invisible.
Balomar's blade bites deep into the looming eidolon, causing her to stagger. The creature retaliates, flailing at the paladin with both enormous fists.
slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (4, 5) + 9 = 18
slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (6, 1) + 9 = 16
Once again one of the mighty blows penetrates the paladin's defenses Balomar takes 18 damage
In response to Kitoro's challenge, the invisible Ichon screams with rage. "You come into my bar, attack my bodyguard, ransack my office and then want to talk terms? Here are my terms - I'm going to cut out your livers and send them back to whoever hired you!"
There is a clattering noise, and a small wooden plaque appears out of nowhere, skittering across the floor. Impossibly, it instantly transforms into a large leather whip, rising into the air and uncoiling itself.
OK let's reintegrate everyone into one rotation:
Borax
Balomar
Kitoro
Bellu
Ichon
Whip
Kyra - may post
Jazmine - may post
Kitoro |
@GM
I think you meant Jazmine's challenge.
@Borax
Kit grabbed two items and figured Borax would grab the others thinking the coffer was larger than the other items. I was thinking we would skedaddle out of here and read the papers later. At no time did I think we were going to try to read the papers in the <1 minute that combat takes. Though a quick skimming might produce a general idea of the contents, or if someone has Kreighton's Perusal? But I was just thinking of using the 3 rounds provided to make a quick escape. Looks like other plans were made though. As a player I tend to look for non-combat solutions while most other players go for the in-combat solutions. Not that I mind - I'll just go with the flow.
//Jazmine\\ |
I just meant a quick perusal to see if they were something needed/useful or if we were absconding with grocery receipts. I didn't intend anything other than a glance or two. As for the rest of this.. well it certainly went into the handbasket pretty quickly.
Jazmine moves back out into the tap room, her bow trained on the woman currently pummeling on the paladin.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 1
Borax Bulan |
Don't know if Borax has any actions left from the original three, but if we've moved everyone back together after two rounds, Borax draws his light crossbow and readies a shot incase he sees any spell manifestations.
Kitoro |
Seeing that borax left the rest of the stuff in the safe and is busy reading the papers, Kitoro will collect he remaining vials. Is that a door or window to the east?
Kitoro |
I assume that would b e a standard action and that collecting the rest of the stuff was a standard action. In either case, Kit will move to the boarded up window so she can attack it next turn.
Balomar |
"I can keep this up all day! Yer best course of action is to lay down arms... and we can talk this out like civilized folk!"
LoH(self): 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 4, 2) + 6 = 16
Power Attack w/ +1 Adamantine Falchion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15 for slashing damage of : 2d4 + 13 ⇒ (3, 2) + 13 = 18

GM_Ragged |
Another mighty swing from Balomar almost cleaves the amazon woman in two. She drops to the floor with a shriek, he cry joined with one of rage from Ichon, who fades into view, her morning-star raised high to attack the paladin.
Just as she is stepping forward, and Borax is lining up his shot, Ichon stumbles, halt, goes cross-eyed, coughs blood, and then slowly topples forward, revealing a dagger in the back of her neck, presumably planted there by the grinning man with elven features standing behind her. As Bellu shatters into an ectoplasmic mist, the elf steps back and raises his open hands to parley.
“I’ve been waiting years to do that to the old witch – I just needed someone to take on her bodyguard first. My thanks. Let me introduce myself – my name is Wright, former minority partner in, and now I believe sole proprietor of, the Sanguine Pit. Now, I’m a reasonable man, so how about you take whatever it is you came for, I give you a cut of the night’s takings to show my gratitude, and we call it quits, hmm?”
Borax Bulan |
"Yes, well I should have anticipated that outcome." Borax looks momentarily annoyed with himself, but with the immediate threat neutralized, Borax examines Ichon for any items of interest. He then invokes his wayfinder as he examines the papers from the vault, leaving the negotiating to anyone actually motivated by wealth or more in tune with the Society's goals involving commerce.
Linguistics (T10) on Ichon's papers: 10 + 12 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + 12 + (3) = 25
Kitoro |
"...leaving the negotiating to anyone actually motivated by wealth..."
Why yes, that would be Kit.
Hearing the mans announcement, Kit emerges with a broad grin on her face, carrying all manner of items looted from the safe.
"Looks like another glorious day! I do so love being a pathfinder... err... ah... agent! So what exactly happened out there?"
A little voice in her head stops her just in time before announcing that she is a pathfinder, almost forgetting where exactly she is.
//Jazmine\\ |
"Actually, There was one other thing that we would like." Jazmine says, as the dust settles. "Ichon here has been blackmailing a friend of ours, using his child as leverage. Now the black mail.. Hey, people have to do what they have to do.. but kids are off limits. I would like to see that our friend has no more trouble from this organization."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
Borax Bulan |
Now that we have the poison that Ichon was using, Ichon cannot blackmail Senzer any more. The Sanguine Pitt has no more leverage on Senzer.
GM_Ragged |
"Look, I don't have Ichon's magic, and whatever schemes she had she didn't share with me. You want to take something, feel free. I was thinking of taking the place upmarket - maybe put in a few poles for girls to dance on, some private booths - you know, classy."
He puts a small lockbox on the counter, and then proceeds to line up and pour a series of whisky shots. "That's half tonight's takings. Drinks on the house. We good?"
The Documents
Most of the documents consist of payrole information and various bribes that Ichon has payed out around Bloodcove. There are a few scribbled love poems to Bellu (doggerel) and some invoices for alcohol and opium. About the only thing of interest is a letter from the local head of the Aspis Consortium, requesting that the Consortium's friends 'look out for Pathfinder scum, and report them immediately'.
Borax Bulan |
Borax eyes the whisky shots, examining them to see if they are tainted.
Craft Alchemy (T10): 10 + 14 = 24
Borax then eyes the man to get a sense if there is something he's not sharing.
Sense Motive(T10): 10 + 10 = 20
"How long have you been in business with the Aspis Consortium?"
Taking 10 on Sense Motive to test the validity of his answer
GM_Ragged |
"Friend, *everybody* in Bloodcove is in business with the Aspis -they own this town. But since we don't trade outside the town we don't tread on their toes, so they mostly ignore us."
He poured the shots straight from the bottle and there's no obvious taint. Seeing Borax look, he lifts one to his lips, nods to the man, and downs it. He appears to be honest.
Borax Bulan |
Borax realizes this may be an opportunity solicit more information on the groups primary objective. Speaking in a round about fashion as if the group is looking for its next stake, Borax attempts to determine what Wright knows about Angazhan and a man called Ruthazek the Silverback King
