Joli, The Artist |
Hearing the sounds of the two lizards' tongues flicking out, Joliryn looks back and notices with dismay the creatures on Rataji and Shihoraj. Her exclamation of surprise quickly transitions into a spell.
Flicking her wrist to retrieve her kukri, she then moves up to the blue lizard.

Rataji the Resourceful |
As Rataji is dragged by a slimy tongue towards the frilled lizard creature he frantically tries to think of what he may know of these monsters.
Knowledge Planes: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
GM.Silbeg |
As Joliryn moves on, the chameleon (who, unlike those the have tongued, is not grappled) takes its attack of opportunity. Sorry if it doesn't make sense, logically, but... It missed, probably due to the distraction of the tasty Garundi man it is tasting.
Bite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
The green lizard then charges Zurnzal. The bite scores a healthy hit (well, not healthy for Zurnzal), but the ferocious charge does not concern the brawler. The other lizard then moves up to Zurnzal (it cannot charge, because its buddy is in the way), and bites at Zurnzal, but misses.

"If you're going to tongue me, buy me a drink!" He hits the creature with a dazing touch to see if it will let go and he can escape the grapple.
It's an SLA, so no concentration check should be needed, right?
"We're not your enemies, guardians. Stand down!" He repeats this phrase in Abyssal, Aklo, Celestial, Infernal and Draconic.
GM.Silbeg |
Do the lizards have 10' or more reach? I'm wondering because of the AoO.
Without a knowledge check, I can only tell you what you observed. The two frilled lizards closed to "base to base" to attack. The chameleons definitely had at least 10' reach with their both their bites and tongues.

SLAs definitely need concentration checks -- they provoke. Since you asked, I will allow a retcon. Otherwise, it would have stood, and you'd take the AoO if it was available.

Marnarius PBP |
Marnarius will study the two chameleons as a swift action then draw his sword as a move action. Unforutnately he is not close enough to attack yet; therefore he will attempt to duck behind some shelves to set up a sneak attack next turn. I'm not sure if the shelves make a hard corner or not and whether Marnarius can make it a 5 foot step. He was at the end of the second row. I'm going to assume that it was a hard corner and it took another move action. That means if it has range and a second tongue or lets go of Shi or something it could get an AOO on Marnarius before he ducks behind the shelves. In any case his stealth roll, assuming Marnarius is not snagged out of mid move, is
stealth: 1d20 + 2 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 12 = 21
If I still have a standard action let me know.

Green would be correct and seeing as how only 3 points of damage got squeezed out of a possible 30-ish. He takes another couple of steps back behind (I'm guessing the pews are supposed to be shelves? Joli, The Artist |
Even looking from my laptop, I'm not certain if I'm within a 5' step of Blue Lizard. The following action is based on the assumption that I can 5' step and attack Blue Lizard in melee.
We can't afford to lose Shihoraj. I best not hold anything back.
Joliryn shifts her stance slightly and is suddenly surrounded by magical sigils, making it harder to see her. Her open hand twirls and then twists at the wrist so her open fingers are pointing towards Shihoraj. She then shuffles forward and thrusts with her kukri at the lizard on the wall.

Well, having received the IC request to stand back, and knowing how much it can hurt when a mage says that and you don't, Marny will change his tactics. Instead of charging boldly forward, he will sheath his sword with a move action, quick-draw his bow with a swift action, 5' step to get line of sight on 'red', and exchange is sword thrust for a bow shot. The rolls above should serve except for a slight mod to the to hit and damage roll for the bow which will be at 34 (-2 to hit) and 15 (-3 to damage) due to the loss of power attack and use of the inferior weapon.
Let me know if you want new rolls due to the change in tactics.
Note: it sure looks like things got shifted on the tactical map. Marny and 'red' were both one square down on the map I think. And Shi looks like she can't make up her minds WHERE she should be! If the map is right then Marny need not and will not move at all.

He also recalls that they are Foo creatures.
Countless species of foo creatures exist—for if an animal dwells upon the Material Plane, it is certain that somewhere in the vast wilds of Nirvana its spiritual double frolics and plays. Nonetheless, certain foo creatures are more common than others, and the most often encountered of all are dogs and lions.
A foo creature can be called to the Material Plane for any reason a conjurer can imagine—these monsters are generally much more intelligent than their mundane counterparts, and can not only follow complex orders but can speak and converse as well. Typically, a foo creature is contacted to serve for a time as a guardian—by adopting its statue form using its freeze ability, a foo creature can appear as little more than an ornate decoration astride the facade of a building or standing guard over a fountain in a city plaza. They are not as often called upon to serve as soldiers in armies, for foo creatures detest war. They generally dislike serving as mounts as well, although for particularly pious and kindly folk, they have been known to make exceptions.
They typically have damage reduction which can be overcome by bludgeoning weapons. However, they can give their skins the strength of stone (hardness 8) as an immediate action several times per day, which slows them down to half-speed. When Foo Creatures are within 30 feet of another Foo Creature, they also get the benefit of Protection from Evil.
Plus, they are always immune to disease, paralysis, and poison.

No problem. Sheath, draw, fire. No 5' step necessary from what I can tell from the tactical so he'll hold his position.
to maintain stealth: 1d20 + 2 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 12 = 24
+2 from studied, +12 from skill
Let's see if the stealth works first. It will change the rolls a bit if it doesn't. I do have to roll stealth again, right?
Marnarius PBP |
That looks pretty good. This is what I come up with for the attack rolls...
mwk composite longbow +10/+5 (1d8+5/×3)
+2 to hit and damage for studied
+4 to hit due to sneak-attack. Not sure about this one.
+2d6 to damage from sneak-attack.
I think that would give me
1d20+10+2+4 to hit
1d8+5+2+2d6 for damage
Is that right?
Please make the attack rolls for me with any corrections in there. Personally, I don't really care if you 'push the dice button' or I do.
Rataji the Resourceful |
Watching with satisfaction as his lightning bolt fries two of the lizards at once, Rataji suddenly realizes what these creatures must be. "Of course. They're Foo creatures -- very good aligned! They can only keep that stone skin up a short while. When it drops, hit them with bludgeoning."
That's probably about as much information as I can share in six seconds...
GM.Silbeg |
Marnarius, that looks good. Maintaining stealth would be a good idea. However, once you attack, you've lost stealth unless you break line of sight. There is no bonus to attacking with sneak attack, however the target is flatfooted.

A blue glow covers her weapon as she strikes at the creature.
5' step towards the other one if mine dies. I don't expect it will.

Joli tries to destroy the chameleon with her spells. As expected, the chameleon turns rock solid... again. Her first slash with the kukri misses, but the second does not. The hardness of the stone repels both her blade, and the cold. It does seem to be moving much slower, though.
The sparkly pink lizard then attacks Zurnzal, who has so kindly moved next to it. It very obviously can still see. Both the bite and the tail smack right into the hapless slayer, who now looks rather woozy. He still stands, but he doesn't look very happy about it.
bite: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28 damage: 2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
tail: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 confirm: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 (ouch)damage: 2d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 7) + 6 = 20
The green lizard thinks about its situation, but doesn't realize it can clear its eyes reasonably quickly.
int check: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 6
It then tries to locate a target, but only manages to run into a bookcase. It then climbs up onto the bookcase. Move and Move It does appear to be sniffing the air towards Zurnzal.

Zurnzal pulls off an amazing stunt... he actually manages to trip the four-legged, large sized creature!
