Seeing that Janira is already doing what he would have done, Z'hor'll unslings his shortbow, and takes as step to the southeast (assuming north is up), and shoots at the flea to the west.

Cor! Nehyril swears to himself as the flea pops up unexpectedly before them. As Janira begins her speech the half-elf raises his bow. From the corner of Neyhril's eye he catches the water-man doing the same, and so the archer takes a step to the west as he looses an arrow at the insect.

You hear an odd muffled yelping sound and realizing that Rondo is emitting a somewhat creepy giggle.

No fleeing the flea!, you hear him chuckle to himself.

He takes a couple quick steps toward the flea (NE) until he has a clear line of sight and then raises his loaded crossbow and fires at the flea.

The fleas move forward, the one being shot at, crouches down and leaps forward to attack the nearest source of food in Aldaeth. As the giant flea comes crashing down with its jaws, Aldaeth takes a giant swing at the creature, but misses wildly as it lands to sink into its potential meal.

The giant flea, unable to sink into its juicy meal, Z'hor'll B'bblebr'x takes aim, and looses his own arrow, but between the close proximity of the enemy and the gaggle of allies surrounding the enemy, the arrow flies wide right and lands with a thud in the dirt.

Verrak and Rakessi, show off their bond as they work together as a well-oiled team. They surround the flea. Rakessi manages to get a good chomp, crushing its skull. Then as it leaves the mouth, Verrak crushes in its cranium. The fleas guts splatter to the ground, motionless except for the occasional nervous system twitch.

Having quickly redrawn his bow, Nehyril looks back up to discover that both creatures have been dealt with. A mixture of relief and disappointment breifly flits accross his face before the half-elf shake it off and moves back towards Janira. "Anyone get bit by one of those things?"

Nehyril scans their surroundings warily, his weapon still slightly drawn. "Two beasts against a party this side would imply these two were either stupid, starving, or desperate. Either way, we should keep our guard up. Janira, how far past the rocks are these caves?"

As the others seem to be distracted by the vermin here, Z'hor'll starts checking out the bodies of the fleas. 'I wonder if these are any good to eat.' He picks up the severed head of one, puts it in front of his face, and looks at Rondo. In a "funny voice", he says, "Rondo! Rondo! I have come back to haunt you, Rondo!"

Z'hor'll looks around for a fish-thing, and acts shocked that the gnome is referring to him.

If the dryness of your tongue makes it difficult for you to properly trill the r's and l's of my name, then I suppose you could call me 'Z'. Drylanders such as your self have done that before, including the Master of Spells. He never quite had the time to figure out how to pronounce my name... probably why I always liked Master Shane better. He's such a riot!"

Since he has an audience, Z'hor'll will go over to the other flea, and picks up its head (removing it as necessary). He then uses this flea-head as a puppet, "And I am Mr. Flea! Why wouldn't you let me suck your blood, little gnome? You look oh so tasty, and wouldn't that be an interesting new experience for you?"

FYI - guys, on things like this, I might suggest that the primary roller take 10 (like a ranger trying to find out way should be able to pull it off herself, the aiding is just icing on the cake). Too late for that now, but just making the suggestion as a "teachable moment" ;)

Rondo, is completely oblivious to everything going on around him, so much to the point that when Victoria exclaims, I just saw the most adorable squirrel, moving in an out of the underbrush, Rondo actually jumps. He must still be lost in thought abut the fish comedy routine.

The others though, combine efforts and help Janira in navigating through the underbrush, blazing a trial straight to the caves.

The dense forest opens to a wide clearing at the base of a sheer cliff. Thick vines cover the surface of the cliff stretching 30 feet overhead. Here! The cave entrance is behind those vines, Janira says with a broad smile as she walks to the cliff’s face. She pulls back several layers of vegetation to reveal a narrow crack in the cliff’s surface. This is where I saw the gillmen enter.

As she motions toward the aperture, the surrounding woods come alive with the sound of small animals fleeing some unseen danger and a large creature crashing through the undergrowth. The halfling worriedly remarks, Quick, take cover before whatever it is spots us! As if she’d summoned the creature with her words, a massive horned monstrosity emerges from the trees. Standing eight feet tall on a pair of cloven hooves and wielding a tremendous axe, the bull-headed creature roars with unbridled anger when it spots the group. Wisely assessing that a minotaur is beyond her charges’ capabilities, Janira screams, A minotaur! There’s little chance we can stand against it. Take this bag, she continues, pulling off her backpack, and head deeper into the caves. Finish your mission. I’ll lead it away from the caves, lose it in the forest, and join you as soon as I can. Now go! GO! She heaves her backpack into the cave, casts a spell, and darts off toward the minotaur before turning to lure it away.

Nehyril stands stunned for a moment. He had trained to be prepared for things like this, and even faced a few monstrous beasts before himself. But the it is one thing to brace oneself for the idea a hulking brute like the minotaur before them; it is another to face one in person.

But then the moment passes, and Nehyril snaps back into focus. "R-right, the caverns," he confirms. Resolve seeps back into his voice as he continues. "Move quick, stay quiet." Nehyril barks through gritted teeth at his fellows. "Tori, are you any good with your god's glaive? Once you get inside the caves set the point towards the entrance; if that thing doesn't take Janira's bait it might come charging after us and every extra hit may count." For his own part Nehyril hustles into the cliff face's cracked entrance raising his bow as he moves. Once inside a ways, he cocks an arrow expectantly behind him towards the entrance, pointed ears trying to hear what's occuring in the clearing.

She smiles as she readies her weapon at the cave mouth...hoping not to have to use it on the minotaur or any other beast of the forest.

Rondo, still completely oblivious to what is going on around him, only finishes his apparent navel-gazing when he hears Janira screaming about the minotaur.

Rondo gives a yelp and moves towards the caves, attempting to hide in the shadows of the entrance.

The aasimar hesitates - torn between helping or obeying orders. In the end he trusts in the leader of the expedition, grabs the pack and heads into the caves.


Janira, tosses you the backpack, and heads off into the brush and thickets to get the minotuar away from the cave entrance. She hurls insults and they work. After a few moments, the surrounding forest returns to normal.

The minotuar and Janira are far away, and the six of you have her bag and are sitting at the entrance of the cave.

The danger apparently gone, Rondo slips out from his hiding place.

Rondo hopes our guide will not get squashed by the minotaur, he bemoans, glancing in the direction Janira has lead the threat. Rondo supposes that we should check to see what she has provided for Rondo and friends before moving on.

Rondo opens and peers into the bag, examining its contents.


Rondo when you peer into the bag you see: 1 green potion, 2 baby blue potions, 1 lime green, 5 scrolls, 2 wands, acid flask, 2 alchemist’s fire, holy water, smokestick, 2 tanglefoot bags, thunderstone.
