A old kuo-toa laughs at Tanics questions.

"We don't gamble. Not really. Jimjar is obsessed with it though, keeps the tallies in his head and everything. We mostly just humour him. It keeps him happy and makes things more interesting for the rest of us. I wish he wouldn't bet on fighting though. Barbaric practice. I take it from your demeanor that you are a fellow individual of peace"

As the fight died down, two guards quickly opened up the cage door and tossed in a bundle of rags and flesh before closing the door. With a groan, the bundle slowly rearranged itself into a pale-skinned humanoid with red eyes and a bald head. Standing up, the former-bundle shuffled off to a side, where he wearily looked around at the group. 'This isn't exactly what I had planned when I fled home, but at least it isn't death.' He pondered for a minute before adding, 'Yet.

"Oh, I don't know. I'm not above knocking a couple of heads together when necessary. And in nature there is plenty of violence, but it is because of need for the most part. I just don't see why some people..." with that he glances at the guard that jabbed him "...PREFER to destroy things or hurt people. I would much rather work things out without unnecessary harm. Isn't that just common sense?"

Seemingly content with Talindra's explanation, particularly in light of her opponent's reaction, Vinexa nodded and said, "Good, glad that's done with." It was about that time that another slave was thrown into the cell with them. As the new arrival seemed uninterested in talking just now she turned her focus back to the oread and said, "But doing such things, destroying things, hurting and manipulating others is so satisfying. It gives you a sense of power." She looked at their surroundings with some distaste, "But it's missed when it's gone."

As the adrenaline drains from her system, the pain of her wounds comes to the fore. She clutches her collarbone and winces, uttering her words with begrudging acceptance. "Eithel, lle karna y' pretty quel savage. Manka lle magha ta a' lle advantage instead en' denyien ta, lye might get n'e en' sinome kuila."

Elven:
"Well, you make a pretty good savage. If you use it to your advantage instead of denying it, we might get out of here alive."

Despite her instinctive hatred of this prince, there was no sense in making such a powerful enemy, if instead he could be a powerful ally.

"Sometimes I think intelligence is as much a bane as a blessing. The animals live such uncomplicated and straight-forward lives with no nonsense like that. 'destroying things is so satisfying' - really? You belong on a mining gang breaking rocks, a very real possiblity for us all. At least then you will serve some kind of purpose to someone!" The Oread gives the old man a meaningful look.

Vinexa grumped as she was told she could have her fill of the rocks and said, "But rocks are so...dull. They don't moan, they don't scream, destroying rocks is so unsatisfying. As for animals, I wouldn't know about their feelings on it, they also aren't half demon so that makes a difference." She moved slowly closer to the Oread and said into his ear, "And anyway, there are things even more satisfying that destruction, like lust, like passion, and sating them is even better."

Vinexa smiled at the druid's reply just before she turned her focus to Akri, "And who are you to judge me?" She pressed herself close to the oread, her body nearly draping against his as she continued to speak to Akri, "Have you ever had the pleasures of the flesh? Do you know what such release is like?" She rubbed against Tanic enticingly as she kept her gaze on Akri, "Even more do you know what it is like for the Daughters of Lust? For a daughter of the Queen of Lust? The drive for more and more in a never ending cycle of pleasure?"

Akri shook his head. "Nope, got no idea and don't plan on it any time soon," he said calmly. "That just allows someone to get way too close for my comfort and well being."

The Quaggoth shrugs
"Ehkä lle naa korjata Mori'quessir. Amin toivoa a' be ner Kotyaer"

Elven:

"Perhaps you are correct Drow (respectful). I just hope I can stay more than a beast"

Meanwhile the old kuo-toa follows the philosophical discussion with great interest.

"Oh I believe intelligence and wisdom is the key to the fulfilled life. The animal's life may be simple and uncomplicated, but at the same time it is brutal, nasty, and short- ruled by base desires, such as hunger or lust. Add intelligence to that without the wisdom to understand and we get what our winged friend here describes, the need to destroy, to manipulate, to seek power and gratification. Such is the life of the majority of my kin, a few may reach the top of the heap but for most life is still short and brutal. Life need not be that way however. We can live together in peace and harmony, not treading each other down, but lifting each other up. Look at us all here, Derro, Quaggoth, Duergar,Svirfneblin, Drow, and more. If we fight amongst each other then we are weak, if we work together we are strong."

He turns towards Vinexa.

" And don't think your demonic heritage dooms you to a life of destruction. We all have a choice. My people have a well deserved reputation for madness, the legacy of thousands of years of domination by Illithids and Aboleths. If our heritage determines our fate then I should be mad too, but a lifetime of contemplation and meditation has helped me see the way. That is why people call me Shuushar the Awakened. You too can choose your path, it may not be easy but you can do great things if you try. We all can, it's just that most people never try to break the mold."

"These are interesting and well thought out ideas. It is true that intelligence offers as many benefits as traps, and that there is the power to do great things given wisdom - but at the same time there is a majesty in the simple but, admittedly sometimes brutal, lives of animals. Not always brutal though. In the caves I was captured from there was a delicate ecosystem of frogs and poisonous mushrooms. Predators, for the most part, could not reach the frogs and thus they lived in peace. Not brutal at all. Elegant, If I may say so. And it is an intelligent species that will wipe them out. It is an outrage you know. They will most likely turn the mushrooms into deadly poisons to suit their purpose, drive off the frogs or eat them, and plant their boring foodstock mushrooms to replace them. I do hope the Order gets my message and does something about it!"

Talindra's eyes also remain toward the room as opposed to her fellow drow. Indeed, they linger quite a while on Vinexa and her enticing movements. Sad to see all that go to waste, she thinks. If Talindra hadn't just been brutally clawed, she would've invited her over. Instead, she lets out a grim chuckle. "Like you said, that's why we make friends with the big ones. Perhaps the kua toa has a point. If we work with these others for the time being, we'll have a much better chance of getting out of here." Talindra pauses for a moment, as if taking some time to be convinced by her own words. "So what is your story? What house do you serve?"

Tanic is unsure what to make of the woman's advances. For all his talks of lust, he's never been approached like that before. In all respects he is a virgin. Fortunately he has the very interesting argument on the merits of nature vs. intelligence to concentrate on and he does so with vigor. His extra thick and insensitive skin helps too. Its like rubbing up against jagged rock.

"See! baldy here unwittingly reinforces my argument. Though pretending to lack of wit, he makes a very profound statement!"

Catching on that Tanic was rather ill at ease and not going to respond to her, for now anyway, she stood back from him and looked around deciding to head in the direction of the drow woman she'd seen eyeing her lustfully on occasion. She noted the wounds on Talindra's body from her fight in a small amount of amusement as she approached and, when reaching her and Micar said, "I hope you're ready to work through those, they aren't going to care if you're injured or not and they sure as abyss won't bother to heal you."

At the questions, Micar's smile fades a bit. He closes his eyes for a second, visualizing the last pleasant moments of his life, "My story? We were enjoying the night, when . . ." The site of the demon woman heading their way seems to have quickened his speech and his story. "Invasion. Portal. Headache. Slave pen." As Vinexa approaches his speech goes back to normal, "And now it seems we all serve this Mistress Ilvara. Patience will be the key to freeing ourselves of our current situation, but be ready to make haste when the window of opportunity presents itself. That window will be short and there will be no time for hesitation when the time comes."

Talindra brushes her hair as the succubus approaches, trying to look as good as possible despite her now dirty, meager attire. "I've taken worse blows before," she says with cool confidence. "But I'm sure a tender touch would do wonders in making it feel better." She slips the side of her shirt lower, revealing the shoulder but also a little more cleavage, and then glances back coyly. "Do you want to take a look?" With the seductress so close, the half elf Micar seems all but forgotten. Talindra hopes there is a dark corner where she might find some privacy.

Vinexa was much more pleased with Talindra's reaction to her advances and stepped closer, "Mmm, such terrible wound, should I kiss it and make it better?" She watched with delight as the shirt was lowered a bit on the drow's injured side and leaned in, her lips pressing gently against the wound and kissed it as one hand groped Talindra's chest as the other grabbed her butt to hold her still.

Snapping his fingers to get everyone's attention, the sound goes off and get a reaction like a fabled firearm shot within

"I was thinking about what the old kuo-toa said and about this old..." he looks around carefully before saying the next word ...Dwarf I once knew said. He was a master engineer and said you could move just about anything with the right leverage. He was also a master in some obscure bare hands fighting technique and applied this philosophy to his fighting. You wouldn't believe the things he could do. I swear he could have tossed a cave ogre braced between two walls! I once saw him fight against three serious opponents leaving them in a single pile after a matter of seconds. Once, a foolish orc engineer bet him he couldn't... uh, sorry, I digress. Anyway, the point is that we really just need to find the right leverage and we can crack this place wide open. If it works for engineering and it works for fighting, why not for escaping, right? And our leverage may just be that noodles obsession for betting. All we have to do is make it so that he wins some stupid bet by opening that door without any guards and I think he would! What do you guys think?"

Taking the hint, Micar sidles away from the drow and demon. He moves over to the quaggoth, "Naa lle ilya right? Let amin sana y' maa ie' i' narda." Shambling up to the half-breed talking to the underground horror as though they were best of buddies, Akri asked, "So, how'd they get you?"

The lock on the manacles appears fairly simple. A DC15 Disable Device check should suffice to unlock them.

At that moment the doors of the cell open and 5 drow guards, including the one with the scarred face and neck, accompanied by 12 Quaggoths enter, the door closing behind them

"Alright you lazy lot, time for work." the scarred one shouts, brandishing a whip.

The guards divide the prisoners into three groups. The first two groups, are led out of the pen, each watched over by 2 drow and 4 Quaggoths. The third group, made up of the newest prisoners, the biggest, and those deemed most likely to cause trouble Guess what group you lucky lot are all in remain in the cell with the scarred drow and his squad of Quagooths.

"I've got a real treat for you luvlies today" he sneers as the Quagoths bring in four enormous sacks, from which they pour a cascade of tiny pebbles. "Sort them. I want these organised by size, shape, and colour. Do you understand?"

He then looks behind him, to check that no other drow are around before drawing closer and whispering "If I could give you the means to escape from here, would you take it?"

Harro is very skeptical of this offer.

Sense Motive(Untrained): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17

"Is this some sorta' of trick? Do you think we's stupid?"

The drow chuckles.

"Not at all my friend. An escape would be very, how should I put it, embarrassing for the Captain of the Guards. It might cause some people to question his competence, to consider that he has been promoted above his station and that his predecessor, who never allowed an escape, was far better suited to the position. But if you'd rather rot here then be my guest"

Harro:
You notice the ambition in his voice, and the hatred he has for the Shoor, the new Captain, which exceeds even the contempt he feels for the slaves. You sense that he is probably genuine in his offer but have a tingling suspicion that he did not come up with this idea all by himself.

Micar squats down and starts sorting rocks. He then glances up at the guard and matches his quiet, cautious tone, "Jorlan is it? Why would you do this? What do you want in exchange? What are the means of escape?"

Tanic, hearing about the job of sorting the pebbles, was just about to brighten up and say "that doesn't sound so bad" when the guy adds that thing about escaping. Shocked into silence for a while, after hearing the reason he just shakes his head.

This fellow is under some kind of spell, probably from a Druid come to rescue me, or we are the luckiest Drow prisoners ever. I don't believe in that kind of luck.

Out of nowhere and for no apparent reason he asks, "You haven't met any Druids lately, have you???"

Realizing that that question is better of not asked he quickly adds "Never mind. I'm game."

The sudden interruption by the guards annoyed Vinexa to no end but she released the drow and stood as she waited to find out what they would have for her to do today. The offer by one guard to help them escape, the Lady's former lover and guard captain was intriguing and she felt the time was ripe. She quietly replied to the man, "Yes, I would take it, I have vengeance to wreak." She sat and began to sort the rocks as they were told to do, best to at least look like a diligent worker anyway.

Akri just snorted. Everybody was just so quick to believe the damn thing. "And how do we know this ain't just some scam to see us get flayed alive for fun?" he asked the guard.

Talindra began to sink into Vinexa's grasp, lips parted with pleasure when the guards interrupted, much to her disappointment. But as the intriguing new opportunity arises, Talindra gazes the guard's expression, searching for betrayal. After all, Talindra was motivated to kill this man's former lover, and she doubted she was alone. Surely this drow wouldn't allow that. And this Jorlan fellow would become quite the hero if he were the one who ended up catching the escaped prisoners, after the new captain let them go in the first place. Sense Motive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

"Oh come on, of course we're game. But it depends on the plan. If I'm just going to die anyway, I may have better things to do in this cell than outside of it." She looks toward Vinexa as she says this, licking her lips.

Looking at the motley bunch of prisoners, and shaking his head in disbelief, Harro will actually defend the Drow.

I must be soft in the head or somethin'...

"He's plann'n on getting something out of this for hisself. About as trustworthy as a drow can get really in my experience."

Throwing a thumb at the Quaggoth guards, Harro doesn't just give in however.

"What about them? The fuzzies under your spell or somethin'? Why won't they talk?"

The drow shakes his head,

"So many questions you all have. Yes I am Jorlan. What I want is to embarrass Shoor and see him put in his rightful place, that jumped up little lickspittle. I've not met any Druids, what sort of stupid question is that? The 'fuzzies' as you so eloquently put it are too stupid to understand what we're talking about, and even if they weren't who would listen to them. It's my word against their's and who would believe a dumb brute like that over someone like me? Isn't that right stupid" he says as he lashes out at the nearest Quaggoth with his whip.

"It seems like some of you have a modicum of sense anyway. What I can do is make sure that the door to pen is left unlocked after I bring you your dinner tomorrow. I can also ensure that the guards watching you are distracted when their shift changes tomorrow evening. I recommend that after leaving the pen you jump into the webs below and then into the pool. That should give you a bit of a head start"

He looks down at the growing piles carefully sorted rocks and grins "No, no, no. That's all wrong. You're putting them in descending size order. I asked for them to be sorted in ascending size order. I guess you'll just have to start again!"
As Jorlan says 'again' he kicks out, scattering stones throughout the pen.

Talindra:

Despite his arrogance you sense that Jorlan is at heart a coward, even more so since his injury. It seems unlikely that he would wish to involve himself in any 'heroics' which carried significant personal risk to himself.

Talindra begins to sort the stones, waiting until the guards are out of sight to begin to speak. "I don't know much about the best way out of here, but the first thing we should do when we escape is to get some weapons. And if that means prying them from the hands of dead guards, so be it." She peered at the others, looking for their agreement on the use of deadly force.

Talindra has a Cure Light Wounds memorized but I understand can't cast it while in the cell due to some sort of antimagic effect. Would there ever be an opportunity for her to cast it in the ordinary course of her day, or is she going to have to persuade a guard to take her out of the cell for a bit?

@ Talindra Hmm. I'll have Talindra selected for dishwashing duties in the afternoon. That will take you out of the anti-magic area. You'll have to try to be quite subtle in your casting however.

Also keep in mind that material components or divine focus might be hard to come by for a bit.

Responding to Talindra's mention of weapons Tanic contributes, "Well, I have a trick I can do in a pinch. Given a bit of metal I can grow and shape it, though only temporarily, into a useful tool like a crowbar, lockpick, or even a sword. Unfortunately I don't have anything to use at the moment, and it only lasts a few minutes. Still, it may come in useful at some point, don't you think?"

Slapping his hands together, Harro sighs and points at the Drow with two fingers.

"AAANNNNDDD...that's about the best offer we're likely t'get down here. Sure. We'll go with your little plan elf. IF...and that's a big IF... you can pull off what you say."

"Well, if we're gonna go through with this thing, I suppose I should mention that I got myself a good, knife-sized rock I can use as a weapon," Akri offered quietly and he started moving the rocks around to keep up the pretense.

Talindra is alert to the offers of cooperation from the others. "I have a metal pipe. Not the best weapon for me, but if you can turn this into a rapier, it would be more effective. I could also wield the dagger with some skill."

Talindra needs a finesseable 1 handed piercing weapon for better combat potential. Though I actually think our rogue/magus can use it best.

Harro has a length of scrap metal he can use as a club effectively enough. Make a rapier for Talindra. Or better: break off a piece to make it and give the club to someone else. You don't need a big piece right? Just one about the size/mass of a nail?

"Sure, I could do that. Won't be anything special but I expect it will be better than a pipe. And remember, it will only last for a few minutes and I can only do this once per day. "

Correct. In fact it says the Oread grows the item, it does not say shrink it. So too much metal may make it so that the ability would not work. That may be a GM call but breaking off a piece makes a lot of sense. This may be moot however, depending on what the GM has in store for us out there, but best to be ready! How would we break off a piece?

Micar looks around at his new allies and nods, "I'm in. I doubt we'll get a better offer. Might be handy to take that Elven Quaggoth with us. I can probably get the restraints off of him, making him even more effective." Then looking over at Telindra, "If you don't want the pipe, I can use it. Obviously not my ideal weapon, but it'll do in a pinch."

I'm assuming the pipe falls under the light weapon category and is usable with Weapon Finesse.

[ooc]Good point about the club being finesseable. In that case, club to Micar and dagger to me. Our barbarian is armed already. Do we have any other melee classes or are we set? Is there a player that hasn't checked in yet?[ooc]

"Agreed, the quaggoth is a formidable fighter, good to have on our side."

Giving a shrug, Akri said, "Sure, you can have the dagger rock. Get me outta this nullifier field thing they got here and I'll give them a surprise or two they won't see coming."

As the discussion turned to what they could all contribute to the cause Vinexa reached down into her top and, from between her breasts, coaxed forth a furry, eight legged, creature. "If we find a use for her I have my little pet here. Terra might be of use though I'm not sure if she's poisonous or anything." She held the spider in her palm and gently stroked it while the arachnid eyed all the people warily. "As for weapon, I have my own," she paused in stroking the spider and held her hand up showing her sharp nails as well as allowed them to see the fact that her teeth were actually very sharp before returning to petting the spider. "I can also make become one fo the guards and weaken the will of specific targets when we are away from the null magic area." Her focus turned back to the spider as she crooned to it, "Aren't you just the cutest spider ever."
