Zak shrugs and says, ”Just a bit chilled, but it is fine now. Running about solved that! Lead on, boss.” he says easily, already getting ready to leave. When no danger rears it's ugly head the party continues onward.

Another long march takes them deeper in the twisting tunnels, still very wet, dodging puddles and small streams. Still Kizzirark's map (and common sense) lead them in the right direction. Before long though he detects more signs of derro. Small food caches, a few traps (easily dodged or disarmed by Zak) and even some crude writing on the walls. Moon also often sniffs at the walls, obviously detecting other signs of their passage.

It takes two marches but finally, Kizzirark reaches the cavern that supposedly held the outpost. It is quiet, and pitch-black. No signs of life, native or foreign is evident. It is a long, low cavern, with a heavy, smoky scent in the air. One side is crudely hacked away, revealing a coal seam that was obviously being worked. Nearby are a few small wooden huts, huddled against the wall. Not much else is obvious to be seen.

Kizzirark half expected to find them still hanging on in the outpost, but it was a faint hope.

How many times did the job followed the easy route?

He made signs to Zak and Moon, before moving ahead, quietly, to investigate the place. There were lots of questions to be answered before he could decide the next course of action and all the answers were there, scattered, waiting to be uncovered by trained eyes... a drop of blood, a scorch mark, a sword mark on the walls, abandoned food... everything could tell a piece of what happened there.

Kizzirark readied his crossbow and tried to listen to any sign of danger.

Perception, deep knowledge: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 10 + 2 = 14
Perception (Moon): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

Not sure if there was any danger around, especially after his late incident, the look at Moon, waiting for any reaction.

If no immediate danger is detected, Kizzirark will continue with his investigation.

First he searched for any signs of struggle... blood, scattered weapons and ammunition, any body or even marks of slashes and blows... this could tell him about why they left the outpost and, in case of a fight, who were the attackers and how bad his charges are.

Then he searched for the habitations, hoping to discover how many of them survived the earthquake... this clues could be found by searching food, if any, marks of a fireplace or torches, the used huts and blankets.

Finally he searched for tracks. The quantity and variety would tell him which path they took and, he hoped, how many days before they left... it was quite difficult to follow tracks underground, constant puddles and hard soil, but if there was anyone who could do the jog, it was Kizzirark.

Taking 20 on Perception for a total of 32.

Kizzirark detects no danger, among the remains of the outpost. Here and there among the remains he finds a few small creatures (roaches, tiny oozes) feasting on the wooden timbers and remains of food. They vanish into the darkness, slithering and skittering away.

He sees signs of violence. Many of the wooden huts are scarred and battered, most with knocked in doors, locks smashed off. Here and there he sees some blood, but no bodies or anything of that nature. Many of the tools and gear of the outpost remain, fallen here or there, some of them bloody.

A small spring trickles reddish water into the cave providing not only a heavy metallic tang tot he air, but also making the cave floor soft and easy to mark. The half-orc sees footprints of many types running here and there. Some of them are men, others maybe smaller, halflings (?) and some are derro, with no doubt. There are not many of those however. The human footprints outnumber them, even in the 'outgoing' tracks that lead to another tunnel entrance, leading away into the darkness.

Zak clambers around, staying out of the way. He finds a nice little knife, left behind, and a ncie warm blanket. "Finders keepers.." he whispers to himself, a surface phrase picked up from Kizzirark. "Looks like everyone has gone down Orv-way, Kizzirark." The mongrelman says, using the Darklands slang for 'death'.

Kizzirark nods to Zak.

"This will probably be their fate if we do not hurry... but as you can see, they are still alive." Kizzirark points out to the footprints. He then looks again to the derro's footprints.

Actually if we do not hurry, death would be a good thing for them if the derros decide to experiment on them.

He then looks around for any object that was clearly owned by the colonists and presented it to Moon, so she could use her powerful nose to help him track.

"Time to move Zak... will pay mostly attention to the tracks, so keep both your eyes open for enemies, traps and general hazards..."

Survival, deep knowledge, favored enemy (derro), track, tracking at normal speed: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 2 + 2 - 5 ⇒ (13) + 10 + 2 + 2 + 2 - 5 = 24
Survival (Moon) - Scent: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13

The DC for a soft ground is DC 10, further reduced by 1 for every 3 on the group... if there are plenty of marks, Kizzirark will walk faster, taking -20 instead of the -5 to move at double his speed, to a total of 9.

The trio move into the tunnels, moving fast. Kizzirark bends his head to the trail, judging the trail, watching for signs. A taltned Ranger, he sees much and keeps them on the right road. The soft, wet mud helps but it is still tough going in the shadowy dark of the caverns.

Moon trots alongside, nose sniffling int he darkness. Once or twice she helps Kizzirark over a tough spot in the caves, where the trail is unsure. Zak watches out for traps or other problems with Kizzirark distracted. Even a simple crevasse or pit can claim a distracted tracker.

The signs of derro become more common. Even Kizzirark can soon smell them, as they move through well-trafficked tunnels. Vulgar graffiti clings to some walls and bits of broken rope and manacles litter the passageways. Kizzirark detects many crossing and re-crossing paths of different slaving parties.

Finally, as they track, they hear some noise up ahead. It isn't much, just some light tramp of feet, the sound of loud breathing and the occasional crack of a whip. Nothing is yet to be seen int he narrow, winding tunnels. But whoever they are, they sound close.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

"Shhh... can you hear it?" Kizzirark stopped and whispered to Zak. "They are near... whoever they are, but I feel they are our charge... quite now, do not attack... there is no sense to fight them in this cramped tunnels... also be careful, as you know, Derros send scouts back sometimes."

Now that he could hear their target, there was no need to keep tracking them by their footprints. Not that they were making too much noise, but Kizzirark made signs to his companions to move as quietly as possible.

He drew his heavy crossbow and prepared a bolt before signing them to continue. His breath became regular and all his attention focused on the present task, like a hunter near his prey.

So, once more, I face your kind, filthy scum... and you'll pay once more.

With his senses focused, Kizzirark moved forward.

With great skill Kizzirark moves forward, using the stones as cover. Soon, he rounds a dripping stalagmite and peers around it, seeing the passageway opens into a broad cavern here, with a low, cracked roof. Massive stones lay tumbled around, along with piles of gravel and mud.

The cavern is full of derro and slaves. There are probably half a dozen of the creatures, perched on rocks or standing around the prisoners. The shackled and bound prisoners number maybe two full dozen, all halflings. Most of them are men, but a few women and children are scattered throughout. They look beaten and downtrodden but not too skinny or wounded. They have not been slaves for long. By the way Kizzirark seems them flailing (and falling) in the darkness, they may be fresh to the Darklands.

The derro are talking in low voices to themselves, sometimes reaching out and hitting a halfling, idly. They do not seem to notice Kizzirak, Moon or Zak just yet.

Zak looks it over and shakes his head, 'Poor souls. But they probably aren't our group, eh Kizzirark? I think they'd have mentioned if they were halflings.”

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark nodded at Zak's comment. "You are probably right, Zak... it would not be weird for our employers to forget to mention a couple of halflings among their men, especially the Cheliaxians that view the little ones as mere things, but a full-Halfling group is something different... also, I'm not sure they would hire me to fetch halflings."

Kizzirark thinks for a moment.

And this explains the little footprints I saw earlier... but not the absence of the larger ones.

"These might not be our group, but I thing they are our best hope to find them. The halflings or the derro might know something..."

Kizzirark spends many more minutes studying the group, trying to figure out if they plan on resting here or keep marching. He also tries to find the leader of the derro group.

Perception, deep knowledge, favored enemy: 1d20 + 10 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 10 + 2 + 2 = 23

Zak shrugs and hunkers down behind a stone, keeping out of sight. He tail writhes in nervous anxiety though, flicking in the dirt of the corridor. Even Moon seems on edge, her tail sticking out as she sniffs the air.

Kizzirark peers over the rock, gauging his foes. He has long experience with the foul derro and knows more about them then most. Of the half dozen derro there, he quickly spots the leader, a larger, more hulking derro perched on a rock at the far end, at the front. He is wearing a bright blue scarf (stolen from some surface dweller) around his head.

Kizzirark guesses the derro plan on staying for a awhilemroe, to rest themselves, and the slaves. Even derro, usually, wish to get their prey home alive. This looks to be a fairly long-term stop. He even sees a few of the captives being fed some horrible looking think gruel. Gods only know what derro feed their captives...

Do you need a map?

Kizzirark sighed.

This is not good... five derros are a hard fight, and the boss looks even stronger, and the presence of the halflings makes it even harder...

Kizzirark could beat any derro quite easily in single combat, but he had seen what these little freaks can do in big numbers, especially when the victim is surrounded.

Perhaps if I take the boss down, the other ones will run away...

I think a map would be great!

A link to the MAP .

Kizzirark sighed at the difficult decision... he then remembers about a potion he found a couple months ago with a drow.

"Look, Zak, I think I found a way to make it easier..." Kizzirark takes his invisibility potion and hands it over to Zak. "They are too many and we need to divide them... take this potion with you and sneaks to the entrance of the tunnel we came from. There you'll 'be clumsy' and make some noise, attracting them towards you. I doubt the derro will sent everyone after you, since they need to guard their prisoners. After they start chasing you, I'll follow them a couple seconds after and finish them... this potion is in case something goes wrong and you need to vanish... it is a Invisibility potion."

"I know this is not how we work generally and this action violates our rules... 'do no split' and 'do not be the hero', but I can see no other course of action."

He then turned his attention to Moon.

"And you, girl, not a sound, even if things get ugly..."

Kizzirark was really worried about Moon... if he was killed, she would face the same fate, since she would not be able to cross the river without help. He released her from the straps of the cargo.

Bit confused on your plan here. Can you explain the plan in OOC to me?

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

The plan is Zak taking the invis potion (but not drinking it) and heading towards the tunnel we came in. There he'll make some noise, preferably not looking like he is trying to attract them (nothing like: "Hey you fools, come get me!"). Hopefully some of the derro will follow him, splitting their party. Kizzirark will then wait a moment before sneaking after them and eliminate those derro. The Invis potion is just in case things get too ugly (like all of the derros follow Zak) and he really needs to escape.

Also, if too many follow Zak, Kizzirark could also fight the remaining first and free the halflings before following Zak.

Where are you and Moon hiding during this?

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

If the tunnel is where Kizzirark is, he will move south behind the big stones.

Kizzirark and Moon sneak, silently, to the cover of the large stones. Skilled at such secretive movements, they get there without the derro noticing.

Soon, Kizzirark sees Zak slip into the tunnel and make a few subtle noises, a few crunches of dirt, the soft slick of mud being stepped on and a tiny clatter of stones.

The noises are few and distant but in the Darklands, every sound means either predator or prey. The derro are instantly altered and form up around their captives. The biggest derro, the chief, sends a few warriors to investigate. They crouch near the outside of the outgoing tunnel, obviously listening.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark waits, as silent as he could, just hoping that the pair of derros would enter the tunnel after Zak.

Come on... come on... just follow the little fur ball...

There were six derro in the total, counting the chief, and the prospect of fighting all of them at once did not seem promising... four was far better, even more if he dispatched the two that followed Zak before.

Finally, after a few tense moments the two derro follow Zak into the tunnel. With a short command the Chief, still on his rock, orders one to stand guard at the mouth of the tunnel, keeping at eye on the two warriors. They are a wary group, Kizzirark notes, not impulsive at all.

Two other derro carefully watch the halflings, on guard for any attempt at a breakout.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark looked as the a guard moved towards the entrance of the tunnel.

Damn it! Now I can not follow Zak... unless I can get rid of this guard. Unless...

Kizzirark moves around, making his best attempt to keep silent.

Stealth, deep knowledge: 1d20 + 11 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 - 3 + 2 = 19

He saw where the other derros are and smiled, for the derros could see in the dark, but not for that far... the guard at the entrance of the tunnel was out of the sight of the others, meaning that he was vulnerable.

I'm assuming that the guard at the tunnel will be looking inside it, thus with his back towards Kizzirark, since it makes no sense for him to guard the inside of the cave, giving his bask to the unknown noise...

Kizzirark drew his axe and moved stealthily towards the guard striking it with a mighty blow.

Damage (Greataxe), favored enemy, power attack: 1d12 + 4 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 + 6 = 22

Not able to fell the creature with only one attack, he prepared himself to hit again, as fast as he could, before the derro are able to act or ask for help.

Initiative, deep knowledge: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 2 = 20

Damage (Greataxe), favored enemy, power attack: 1d12 + 4 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 + 6 = 21

The Initiative check is initially, just to know if he can act again before the derro, since the first attack would be in the surprise round... if he is able to hit again before the guard gives any signal, he would enter the tunnel after Zak.

good rolls!

With two swift strokes Kizzirark takes out the watching derro without any noise. It is a tricky and risky move but the half-orc performs it with consummate skill. Years of hunting derro have given him a rare gift to get the drop on the vile creatures. The half-orc stands alone at the entrance to the tunnel can just make out the distant figures of the two derro chasing after Zak's phantom sounds. They look wary and on their guard, but they do have their backs to the half-orc.

One down, five to go...

Kizzirark dragged the derro's corpse away from the possible view of the others and then followed into the tunnel, as silently as he could. Moon followed him closely.

Stealth, deep knowledge: 1d20 + 11 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 11 - 3 + 2 = 18

Once he got near his targets, Kizzirark prepared himself for the combat, expecting it to be more dangerous than before, since he would be fighting two opponents this time...

I hope Zak hears the sounds of our battle so he can ambush them from behind.

With a quick movement, Kizzirark moves forward attack one if his hated enemies.

Damage (greataxe), favored enemy, power attack: 1d12 + 4 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 4 + 2 + 6 = 16

If the tunnel allows two to be adjacent, Kizzirark will instruct Moon to be by his side (in total defense), stopping the derro to get past them and to flank/run to alert the others... if not, she will stay behind.

Kizzirark gets the drop on the two wary derro. With one quick blow he attacks one, swinging his massive greataxe. The bright blade glints, even so faintly, in the distant firelight and it is enough to warn the derro. It nimbly dodges against and the blade misses.

Warned now, they both attack the half-orc. Either out of confusion or confidence they do not raise the alarm, yet.

One lashes out with a club made of gnarled surface wood.

Club attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

It misses, being a clumsy weapon. The other prods with a short, sharp spear like weapon, carved from bone.

Spear attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

It too misses it's mark. Kizzirark hears Moon behind him, only the slightest growl. There is no sign of the perhaps invisible Zak.

Your turn!

"Not used to hit someone who fights back, aren't you?"

Kizzirark's next blow strikes true, slashing deep into the derro's shoulder. It staggers, reaching out to brace itself on the wall, blood flowing like a ribbon.

The other one open's its mouth and suddenly screams! The noise is loud and raucous, like the screech of a thousand cats crossed with a thousand crows. The noise echoes up and down the caverns, altering everyone for quite distance.

Kizzirark can feel Moon fall against him, with nothign audiable above the wailing derro.

Soundburst Moon is stunned. Yeah, all derro have that ability. That sucks!

In the noise Zak sneaks up and quietly slays the wounded derro.

and we are back, for good

Kizzirak slays the other derro with one blow, ending the harsh cry instantly. But not soon enough, distantly behind him the half-orc can hear sounds from the other derro back int he passage with the slaves. The guide is not sure if they are fleeing or approaching, there are a few moments to plan.

Aslo, Kizzirark notes, the sound was loud enough to possibly attract much worse Darklands predators....

"Damn it again!" Kizzirark says behind his teeth. "Not sure if they are coming for us or running away... I guess they would at least check what the trouble is..." He then turns his attention to Moon. "Hey girl... wake up... we are in a tight spot here..."

He breathes deeply before signaling Zak to remain silent as he tries to figure out if the derro are approaching or fleeing.

He then draws his crossbow and whispers a couple words, readying it. "But one thing I know... if they put their ugly heads out, it'll get a bolt between their eyes..."

Casting Gravity Bow and then preparing an action to shoot when/if he sees an enemy.

Kizzirark waits an anxious moment, listening to his prey/predators. Finally, he hears the clank of chains and grunting of halfling slaves. Apparently the derro are getting the slaves ready to move on, and away from any danger.

Zak whispers, "Now what?".Distantly, possibly, Kizzirark hears some distant rustling in the tunnel behind them. Looking back reveals nothing but the Darklands is a dangerous place for the loud.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark thinks for a moment before whispering. "Hum... ahead of us we have three derros and behind us... I have no clue... I'll stick with the derros any time!"

He looks once more towards Moon and is glad that she is already fully recovered.

"I'd also not like to waste the sacred gift that Abadar bestowed upon my crossbow, so... let's get those grays!"

He then rushes forward, with Moon close on his heels, trying to arrive at the former cave before the derros have fully departed.

Kizzirark, with Moon at his heels and Zak following behind (muttering something about 'heros') arrives back at the main cave.

He sees the following scene. The derro have gathered up their charges in marching order and have begun to slowly move to the exit. The slaves are shackled and look downbeaten and dispirited.

One of the rear-guard derro sound an alarm when Kizzirark (and troupe) enter the cave. The derro finally know they are here and begin turning to face them.

Behind him, Kizzirark can hear something come up the tunnel, attracted by the light and sound. Something big.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark quickly lifts his crossbow and lets a bolt fly towards his enemy before any other reaction, almost instinctively.

Damage (crossbow), deadly aim, favored enemy: 2d8 + 1 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 2) + 1 + 4 + 2 = 12

When the sound of something big comes from behind him, Kizzirark quickly warns both Zak and Moon. "Something is behind us and as you know pretty well, this always means bad news! We can't retreat and we can't press forward, so our only move is to stay and fight... but not blindly or stupidly..."

Knowing his favored enemies did not speak common, Kizzirark yelled to the group of prisoners.

"Hey you all! You do not know me and probably do not trust me, but I'll do whatever I can to help you! Something big is coming behind me, alerted by the derros' scream... it might get ugly here, so be prepared to hide or flee when you can!"

Saying this, Kizzirark moves out of the entrance, trying to lure the derros to come after him and, if everything works as he plans, to turn their backs towards the entrance and the unknown threat. He then provokes them in undercommon.

"Come agus a fháil dom cursed tú fools! Tá trí cinn de tú cheana féin marbh ... beidh tú a leanúint go luath!" [Come and get me you cursed fools! Three of you are already dead... you will follow soon!]

Can you use map coordinates to tell me where you are going? because right now you are between the slaves/derro and the big nasty noise behind you

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark would move to R6, Moon to S6 and Zak to R7.

Kizzirark's crossbow flies true, cutting through the dry air of the cavern. It sinks into the shoulder of one of the rear guarding derro. It squeals in pain at the attack.

After the half-orc shouts to the halfing, the pathetic little creatures suddenly begin putting up a spirited fight! They begin running this way and that, jangling the chains and jumping up and down, causing confusion and loud noises.

The Chief derro ignores the hubbub and steps to the side. He raises his own crossbow and shoots at Kizzirark.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

The foul creature's aim is good at it strikes the half-orc in the thigh.

Crossbow damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1 But it does little damage to the sturdy cave guide.

The other derro begin scrambling for their weapons!

From his side Zak turns and then says, 'I think I know what is behind us. Giant whiptail centipede! Vaguely in the shadows Kizzirark can see the huge bulk filling the tunnel, coming on fast!

The guide feels the bolt biting his thigh but the adrenaline of the moment carried the pain again quickly. He just checked to see if the bolt was still there... it was not, luckily.

"Argh... I think you are right Zak... so lets get out of its sight and hope that it chews a couple derros, right?"

Reloading his crossbow would take to much time, so Kizzirark moves quickly, trying to put as much space between them and the centipede and hiding behind the big rock.
Double moves to P11, Moon to Q11 and Zak to P12. Not the boldest move but I guess survivability is far more important in a solo game...

The trio run for cover, trying to avoid the hungry mandibles of the centipede. usually carrion eaters, they can attack large groups when hungry. This one is obviously quite starved.

As Kizzirark, Moon and Zak run the derro guards let loose a hail of crossbow bolts.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

All go wild in the confusion of moving halflings and running targets.

Just as they reach safety behind stones the giant roaring centipede enters the chamber. It's massive body squeezes into the chamber, huge attenta darting this way and that, smelling for prey. Hundreds of legs rippled under its huge bulk.

The chief derro curses in his own tounge at the sight of the approaching monster. Pausing a moment to knock a nearbye halfing to the ground he runs off down the tunnel, leaving everything behind.

"Moon, stay were you are! Do not move unless I call for you! Zak, follow me!"

Kizzirark then darts forward, tired of the derros' bolts. Ahead of him there is another rock that, if his calculations were correct, would allow him to hide from the centipede, gain cover from the bolts and even flank the derros.

Moon will stay hidden behind the rock at R11. Kizzirark will run (4x speed) to B12, followed by Zak, in C12.

Moong rowls low in her throat, but huddles behind the rock. Zak mutters and says, 'Lead on. I'll stay behind you to save you." and he runs off, keeping his sinewy body low to the ground.

The derro guards, distracted by the charging centipede are divided. one fires off a shot at Kizzirark.

Crossbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15

But it goes wild as a halfling steps on his foot.

The others fire at the centipede, generally hitting but merely enraging the huge beast. The lumbering creature charges straight ahead, knocking apart the small fire the derro had made. Rearing high it arches over the derro, obviously eager to feed.

Some of the halflings fall down in horror and terror.

Hm... Kizzirark was supposed to be at C12, so he would be able to charge the derro this turn... was this just a mistake of his positioning? If not, he would have to draw his axe and only 'act' next round.

That IS C12. Would you like B12? moved you on that assumption.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Yeah, I wanted to be in B12... Zak should be in C12, sorry for being a monkey. LOL

Kizzirark charges forward, drawing his greataxe in the process and slashing at the derro in front of him.

Attack (greataxe), charge, favored enemy, power attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (10) + 9 + 2 + 2 - 2 = 21
Damage (greataxe), favored enemy, power attack: 1d12 + 4 + 2 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 4 + 2 + 6 = 22

Now at B8 and with AC 18.

Zak quickly follows, sidestepping at the end of his movement and stabbing with his shortsword but missing his target.

Attack (shortsword): 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Zak is now at C8.

"Don't panic, little ones! I'll help you... but you need to stay with me! If you can, hide behind that rock!"

Kizzirark knew the halflings were terrified and with their spirit broken, they would probably not listen to him but it was worth to try nevertheless...

Kizzirark's mighty blow nearly slays the derro where it stands. A huge wound from shoulder to hip opens and erupts with blood. The pale creature howls out and then darts off down the passageway, after it's long distant chieftain.

Some of the fearful slaves try to listen but the chains merely trip them and they all lay their, helpless int he now pitch dark cavern. The half-orc can hear some of them praying to their own gods.

At the other end of the group, the unwounded derro runs off, trying to simply to get away. It runs, by chance close to where Moon is hiding, probably trying to hide behind the same rock

The other stands his ground and is bitten in half for his trouble. Looming over the cowering and blind halflings, it looks like it is about to make a meal of a few slaves...It lets out a huge roar, flecked with sticky salavia.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark sees as the derro is eaten and the other runs, leaving the Halflings unprotected.

"Zak, see if you can help the halflings out of their chain and guide them to a safe spot, away from that thing! Just do not led them to any tunnel!"

Delaying until after Zak's action so he can charge the centipede.

Kizzirark waits for Zak to move then examines the creature.

Knowledge (nature): 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Uncertain, he decides to charge either way, trying to get its attention.

"HHEEYY you! Come here!"

Attack (greataxe), charge, power attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 13
Damage (greataxe), power attack: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 6 = 21

Current AC 18

Zak's clever hands easily undo the rusty chains on the halflings, and the little figures scatter int he darkness, with Zak trying to herd them. Kizzirark can hear his curses as some run right for the salvering monster.

But the centipede is distracted by a charging half-orc, great axe held high. The blow misses though as the surprisingly nimble creature dodges the blow. Roaring a cry it snaps back, huge jaws slicing onto the half-orc.A slithering tail also whips out.

Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Tail: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15

It misses both, probably distracted by the tasty halflings and the cursing mongrelman.

Out of the corner of his eye he can see the derro stumble on Moon who takes off running along the wall. The derro simply jumps in fright then runs for the far wall, desperate to get away.

Moon can outrun a terrified derro. Just you and the centipede now....

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Kizzirark turns his head slightly, trying to see if the halflings are safe.

Good... now the only immediate danger is this big vermin...

The guide focused his attention once more, using the momentum of his mighty weapon to deliver devastating blow at the vermin.

Attack (greataxe), power attack: 1d20 + 9 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 - 2 = 22
Damage (greataxe), power attack: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 6 = 16

"No need to worry, gentlemen... the greater danger is already gone..."

Kizzirark's great axe hits this time, slicing up the softer underside of the rearing beast. It trembles but strikes back, quick as a snake. Hundreds of scuttling legs push it forward, bringing down the huge head onto the half-orc.

Bite: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

It connects with Kizzirark's left arm, the massive mandible slicing deep into his muscle.

damage: 2d6 + 7 ⇒ (3, 2) + 7 = 12

The long tail whips out as well.

Tail: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17

The sweeping tail misses however, merely throwing up a sheet of rocks and gravel in the near miss.

Zak helps scurry away the other halflings, getting most of them out of harm's way. "Do you want some help?" he shouts as he (mongrel)man-handles one halfling into safety.

Moon comes around a rock, slinking low against the ground, staying quiet.

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

"Argh..."

The half-orc flinched after the brutal attack. Hearing the offer from Zak, Kizzirark nodded, without taking his eyes from the centipede.

Right, I'll not get distracted again... you got my full attention!

I think Zak acts first now, since Kizzirark delayed to be able to charge, so I'll post Zak's action first.

"Zak, let's flank this bug... go to the left and wait for me to be in position before attacking, this way we'll fell it!"

Kizzirark observed as Zak moved and prepared himself. He followed his friend's example, but moving right instead.

Zak will move to G6 and prepare an attack for when Kizzirark is flanking the centipede. Kizzirark then will move to G8, triggering Zak's attack and then also attacking.

Attack (shortsword), flanking: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 + 2 = 20
Damage (shortsword): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Sneak Attack: 1d6 ⇒ 1

Attack (greataxe), flanking, power attack: 1d20 + 9 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (17) + 9 + 2 - 2 = 26
Damage (greataxe), power attack: 1d12 + 4 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 4 + 6 = 22

"Nice! That was what I was talking about!"

Zak's shortsword plunges into the beast from the side, enticing a bellow of pain. A dozen legs rear up, batting at the air as it tries to turn and run. Before it can Kizzirark lets loose a truly massive blow aimed right int he middle. It slices through the hard carapace like butter, dissecting the creature in half.

It falls to the cavern floor, spurting blue blood all over the walls as it thrashing in death throes. Slowly, slowly it dies, chittering in terror and pain until finally it quiets and stills.

A total silence falls over the cave, only broken by the sniffling and crying of the perviously chained halflings scattered all over. There are no sign of the derro.

Combat is over, well done!

Male LN half-orc ranger (deep walker) 6 | HP: 49/49 | AC: 20 (13 Tch, 18 Fl) | CMB: +9, CMD: 21 | F: +8, R: +8, W: +6 | Init: +4 | Perc: +12, SM +9 | Speed 20ft | Active conditions: None.

Even if it went well, it was a tough combat... not being able to just jump in, like in a normal 4-5 party rpg makes us think more!

Kizzirark watches as the creature in its death throes, just to make sure it is dead, even if shopped in half. Once he is satisfied he sheathes his greataxe before looking around.

"Right..." The half-orc began, his voice a bit harsher than intended, probably because of the adrenaline in his system. He controle himself and calmed down before continuing. "...sorry, my name is Kizzirark Devorst, a follower of Abadar and a guide of the Darklands. I wish and will not harm any of you and also apologize if any of you were hurt during this combat for it was also not my intentions."

In the dim-light, Kizzirark moved to the remains of the small fire, trying to fix it so the halflings might be able to properly see him. I should remember myself to bring a couple torches next time... the fact that neither me nor Zak need them are not excuse, as I see right now.

"You must have already figured it out but those that have chained you are Derros, a vicious race from these lands and one of my sworn enemies... please, come closer so I can tend you and we can talk... once more, do not be afraid."

Thinking that the sight of his dog, a more familiar element, might help them to trust him, Kizzirark called for her. Moon came closer and sat by his side, licking is hands while he patted her in the head.
