The World Around You |
Even with all of the bickering in orcish and clear tension in the group, Quimkithe is able to follow the horses tracks and calm them down. They stopped their panicked run just after cresting a small hill and finding a nice soft bit of sage-grass to munch on. Quimkithe gathers the reigns and climbs once again into the driver's seat of the beautiful carriage. It is as if now she finally takes the time to fully look at it: ten feet wide, twenty feet long, and just over eight feet high, the wagon is made of darkwood stained so dark that it almost appears black, with steel plates and connectors, and silver adornments. Each side of the carriage has a small set of double doors with small, square, red-curtained windows. The driver's seat is raised to the level of the roof, and grants access to a large cargo area on top of the carriage. She realizes everyone's packs could fit easily on the roof of the carriage, with much room to spare. Sitting in the driver's seat she gets a great vantage of the six horse team. Strong, powerfully muscled, and each one as black as midnight, these heavy horses look like they could have been mounts in some cavalier brigade. Overall the carriage gives an impressive air, and will do nicely to help complete Temerlyth's guise that Fire and Ice are traveling pilgrims, seeking to honor the martyred Aethelwulf Darkbane in Dabril.
Whomever is driving will need to either be trained in Handle Animal and take 10 to drive the wagon successfully, or make a Charisma check. You cannot take 10 on a Charisma check which means that if anyone drives the wagon that does not have Handle Animal trained, there is a chance they fail and the horses don't listen to them at all.
The World Around You |
The horse-master gets up and rubs the sore spot on his head where the horse kicked him. Yes, I'm fine, now, thank you for your healing magic. It seems one of your friends didn't have the presence of mind, or common sense, to realize that horses are scared of giant wolves. The horse-master mutters as he walks back into the stable yard to attend to his other duties.
Kaze o |
Kaze o then walks over to Sadira, Temerlyth showed me a map in the library and gave me some details about the route we should take. I propose that we head north through Lethaquel then take a ferry over the Sellen River then strait to Dabril. It seems like it'd be a quicker route. The other path we could take goes the opposite direction, then across the Sellen River and straight to Dabril, but we wouldn't be heading through any major areas. What do you think?
Sadira* |
Sadira pulls Tamarelle aside before heading on to the carriage, I think we need to remember who the mother is and who the daughter is, I expect a complete apology before we get to the ferry, I will not allow your disrespect, I understand you are part human so you have a few minor flaws from that but that is no reason to treat me with disrespect, you are walking on very thin ice Tamarelle, it would do you well to remember what happened last time you were disrespectful. the entire time she is going through this she is playing with her scythe, just spinning it and toying with it. Sadira walks towards the carriage, sits down and begins to pray.
Kaze o |
In all honesty it feels too easy so far. The journey all the way down here was by no means simple, but now it seems we are being led by the hand and fed by a silver platter I shouldn't be complaining about all this hospitality, but when I set out on my journey I expected cold nights, curled in my bedroll, listening for any form of danger, not cooped up in a fancy wagon with a set of armor worth more than everything I've ever owned. I hope things start picking up pace here soon. That Paladin that Temerlyth mentioned sounds like he could be a bit of a challenge, but I should more than a match for him. Kaze o smirks at his last thought and looks at the passing scenery.
Tamarelle |
Tamarelle looks at her mother sincerely and says,
Mudhas ai efurairaina llus faailr sina du irrui eln rhuwailr rish nairsarfasd, ai hufa irrui wairr essafd nirr efururirr.
I hope that no one else knows Elven, this is so embarrassing
Kaze o |
Kaze o smirks at Tamarelle, Guun raisr du cluw whal rha her wsulran runaula, faddas du cluw dhed rha sel efururaina llus has nairdeca.
He chuckles and shakes his head, Human blood can be quite stubborn at the worst of times can it not?
Imfazl |
Imfazl carefully watches everyone talking in tongues. I hope they're still not fighting. Well Kaze o laughed so something must be positve... Seeing as you all seem to understand one another pretty well, I don't. So could we please stick to common? Just out of curiosity, what languages do you all speak? Imfazl says with a smile.
Kaze o |
I speak common as well as Elven and also Sylvan. I tend to find that the ladies who don't know the language of the elves and ancient elves tend to find them quite charming. I've also been trying to pick up some draconic, but haven't had much luck being that it is very rarely spoken where I'm from.
Imfazl |
Alas Kaze O, i dont speak enough languages to satisfy my thirst for knowledge. I can speak the main fire languages, Draconic, and finally Azlanti. Nothing too amazing like you people! so my companions seem to be pretty smart. Ill have to keep an eye on them. They could way too easily collaborate right in front of me.. better not give them a reason to. Im starting to warm up to them!
Imfazl |
I traveled the mountains killing people, seeking knowledge about my father, and finally, I protected a cleric while he spread our religion. Imfazl said this all with a slight smile as he remembered all the good times. Hope that was simple enough for them! A good summary of my past. ইত বাস টি বেস্ট অফ টাইমস Imfazl fondly murmurs to himself.
The World Around You |
The first half of the day of travel passes peacefully as you all learn more about each other and watch the rocky scenery of the Five Kings Mountains pass by. Quimkithe focuses on controlling the midnight-black, six-horse team, as the northern road meanders, sometimes precariously on rocky ground, and near high precipices. Thankfully with no more than four hours gone, the rocky mountainous terrain gives way to hills, escarpments, and plateaus with small and sparse grasslands dotting the scene. It is a beautiful day for travel, with bright sun, and small wisps of white cloud, a warm breeze floats up from the south, and you occasionally see the silhouettes of flying creatures against the sky. On one occasion the roar of a dragon is heard overhead, but the creatures is so high in the air that you can't even tell what color it is. Still, the sight and sound of a dragon always gives you an exhilarating feeling. The road itself still winds through hilly country, sometimes in between tall cliffs, and steep hilly slopes. As the carriage rounds a bend in one such area, Quimkithe pulls on the reigns to stop the horses progress. One of the hills must have recently had a rock slide, and the road is entirely blocked with boulders, rocks, and rubble. She also sees vultures and ravens soaring overhead, surveying the scene. Perhaps some people were caught in the slide, and the birds are looking for carrion to eat?
The World Around You |
As Sadira gets out of the wagon and takes a few paces toward the rock slide her magic detection sense makes the entire rock slide glimmer with a faint magical aura.
She suddenly realizes the entire rock-slide is nothing more than a crafty illusion!
The World Around You |
As Sadira goes through the incantations to dispel the illusion Quimkithe walks up to join her. Instantly the entire rock slide disappears and the road is clear. Also as suddenly arrows fly in from the plateaus that rise above the road to either side. Sadira is struck in the side. Quimkithe quickly dodges the arrow meant for her.
We are now in combat. I have the initiative order. There is one enemy that will go first, then the order is: Imfazl, Kaze o, Sadira, Tamarelle, Quimkithe, then the other enemies. Wait for my post for the first enemy, then post your combat actions. Just FYI you do not need to necessarily post in that order, but you might want to, because your actions would more than likely change based on the outcome of your allies' actions.
The World Around You |
Forgot to mention that Sadira took 5 hit points of damage.
After the arrows fly down from the adjacent plateaus everyone's battle instincts kick in, and they prepare for danger. Quimkithe's heightened senses catch a glimpse of a humanoid figure as it rushes out from behind a rock and disappears behind the carriage. The two figures, atop the sixty foot high plateaus, that fired the arrows, are barely visible as shadowy silhouettes. There are only forty feet that separate the rock wall on one side of the road from that on the other, and there are various juts of rock, boulders, and shadowy nooks along the rocky hill walls where enemies could be lurking, completely covered from eyesight.
Okay, you're up in the previously mentioned order: Imfazl, Kaze o, Sadira, Tamarelle, Quimkithe. Realize that I may actually have to interrupt your actions, or alter the "truth" of your post, depending on readied actions, or AoOs of the enemy. That's where my cooperative storytelling skills will come into play.
Imfazl |
Imfazl bursts out of the carriage door, quickly seeing nobody in the diver seat hops into it and grabs the reins. Hop in! Quim, you can shoot from the inside...if you can see them! I can't fight what I can't see...
Imfazl move action opens door, standard turned into a move to get into the drivers seat.
The World Around You |
Imfazl jumps out of the carriage and would love to have jumped into the driver's seat, and ask Quim to jump on, but as soon as he sets foot on the ground he feels something hit his feet, and they instantly become encased in a resinous sticky goo. He looks down and thinks to himself Damn it! Tanglefoot bag.
Kaze o |
Kaze o draws his sword and shield and looks up at the rocks where the arrows came from and his eyes suddenly gleam a bright white then fade back to their original icey blue.
Swift action: draw shield, move action: draw sword, standard action replaced by move action: Detect good.
The World Around You |
Kaze o's attempt to find any creatures with good alignment nets no results. If there is anyone good amongst these would-be bandits, they are not on top of the plateau in his line of site.
Sadira, then Tamarelle, then Quimkithe. If we can't get Tamarelle to post in any decent amount of time, I will do what's called "Free GMing" of her actions, it's essentially like playing a person's character when they are away from the table.
