Yep That'll do it.
Kiana's blow smashes into its spine, breaking it with an audible crack. The kobold eyes widened in pain and then glazez over with its body slumping to the deck as all feeling escapes it along with its fading life.
All of you are exhausted and wondering where would these kobolds be coming from especially if Kiana tells you about teh differently colored Kobolds in the tree lines.
The sun is coming low and it might be time to signal the ship into the harbour you managed to find. Naturally sheltered from the harsh storm and seeming gentle swell of the waves coming from the beach, there may even be someone friendly on the beach or the town that Kiana spotted.
Yuki Okano |
"Well, we can signal the ship and be kicked around some more, or we could not signal the ship and just check out the town and hope we find someone friendly, then have the ship find us eventually anyway and probably keelhaul us." Yuki runs through the options, "I say, let's signal the ship then go check out the town before they get here."
Tirmariah |
A small spear is basically a medium shortspear, right? So could I eliminate this inappropriately sized weapon penalty by using that? Or do I still need to find a weapon that was actually crafted for a medium creature?
Kiana Sunbane |
Kiana tells them about the other colored kobolds in the tree line. "I wonder if we got into the middle of a fight between two tribes of kobolds? Anyway, I'll go signal the ship." She takes the lantern from the boat, and flies up over the sheltered cove. Then she points the bullseye lantern at the ship, and flips the cover while hovering, giving the code for safe harbor.
Kiana's not in combat, and there's no danger if she fails the hover check, as she can just fly, so she'll take 10 on the fly check and get 17 to hover while she signals the ship.
Malyoxa Zigair |
"Good idea, Yuki," Malyoxa says, running her hands through the water. It was strange but she took a liking to the Tian-Min. She is practical and has a decent sense of humor.
Yuki Okano |
"Thanks, Mal." Yuki replies with a smile, as she begins to row towards the village Kiana told them about, "You know, if the four of us put our heads together I'm sure we can find a way out of the mess and turn the tables on those turds back on the ship. I think we can be really good team." She considers her words for a moment before a worried look crosses over her face, "You don't mind if I call you Mal, right?"
nightdeath |
A Small spear is exactly that, a medium shortspear. so go ahead and eliminate the weapo penalty. I could be wrong but let's just go with this first.
An answering light flcikers from the crow's nest. The Wormwood has answered and its sails are hoisted up. It'll take a them a while to get over to where you are though.
No further threats can be found now.
Tirmariah |
"Yes, let's," Tiah pipes up as she switches the too-small trident for a shortspear. "It's sure to be way better than waiting around for the ship."
Yuki Okano |
"That's what I've been saying!" Yuki says with some excitement as she helps direct the boat in the proper direction. "At least find something better than this worthless mace."
She seems to briefly consider tossing the mace into the water in disgust, but evidently decides against it.
nightdeath |
The Wormwood soon turns and drops anchor in the safe harbour that you have found.
"Aye. Good job swabbies now see to clearing a path for the rest of us so that we can setup a temporary site." Mr Plugg informs you as the ship draws besides your small boat. Without an offer for all of you to rest or report, he sends you off with nary a word.
A Nimble Halfling in a flamboyant hat soon joins you and a simple chant soon soothes your pain.
"I'm Sandara Quinn, a sailor in the service of Besmara and I'd be joining you to clear a site. Only because Mr Plugg is a sure cure for sore eyes. He'll send you blind."
Crowned with a mane of fiery red locks, Sandara looks like someone not to be crossed. Yet the smile lines at the corners of her eyes and the easy way she holds herself hint at a lighter side. She dresses to accentuate her figure, and her whole appearance speaks of the sea, from the seagull feather in her tricorne hat to the sailor tattoos on her arms and the clay pipe thrust into the corner of her mouth.
Malyoxa Zigair |
"Thank you, Ms. Quinn," Malyoxa says. "Have you known Mr. Plugg long?"
It was unlike the drow to try small talk, but these were strange times. For a moment, she wondered if she would ever be her old self again. Maybe if she was in a position of power. Yet...she wasn't alone and that was something not wholly uncomfortable.

"Hah! That be a pox on all men!" She exclaims as she spits over the side.
"If not for my protection granted by my patron, I maybe in a worse off position. The man is about abuse of power. A rotten seaman I have not seen though I've to say that I was 'invited' abroad their ship only about a week or two earlier than you. Seems like they took a licking and a beating." She continues.
Yuki Okano |
"Nice to meetcha Sandra, good to have you aboard." Yuki greets her with a smile, listening to her conversation with Mal before asking, "Hey, you have any ideas on how to get our stuff back from those wharf rats back on the ship?"
Kiana Sunbane |
Kiana lands in time to hear the conversation, and nods at the halfling. "Greetings, I too would appreciate any information on my belongings. It is the height of stupidity to take the bow from an archer if you want them to defend your ship." She snorts and gives Plugg an arched look as she glares toward the ship he's still on. "Then again, with such a fat target, perhaps it's not such a bad idea to keep me from my bow. I wonder how much like a fat porcupine I could make him look."

X Marks where your sloop lands on the Island Harbour Map.
The waters lap gently over the sands where the waves crash over a washed beach. In the distance there seems to be an incomplete building of some sort, a wrecked ship and lush greens. Kiana with her superior advantage of heights sees a rather untamed land and some 'local' residents.
The water is astonishingly clear and there doesn't seem to be any other settlements nearby.
Sandara grimaces.
"You'll have to take it up with the quartermaster Grok though you'll just need to endure for a week or so before they might consider letting you have your equipment back. Your actions though might make that longer. A piece of advice. Never fight above decks, especially in front of the officers. The punishment can be rather severe." She warns the last part .
Malyoxa Zigair |
"Duly noted," Malyoxa says, her hand on her dagger's hilt. "I don't consider them worth fighting though. Let's have a look in that building. I'll let someone have the honor of going first though."
She flashes a fanged grin and looks about with caution.

"Well, Kiana seems to be doing a good job of scouting for us, maybe she wouldn't checking the place out from the air first?"
Kiana Sunbane |
Kiana nods, and with a woosh of wings, hits the air. She goes straight up, to get a good vision of the area again, then looks down. She points to the group, and then points to the sand near them, attempting to indicate they should stay put.
She then flies off to the east, away from the fort, and swoops over the cover next door, getting a good look at the ship and what looks like either an animal or statue under the water.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Once she's gotten all the information she can, she'll gain altitude up to about 600 ft, then fly over the fort and get a good look at it. Note, 600 ft above the fort, not above the ocean
She circles it, and if there are no obvious hostile activities, she'll descend slowly while circling, to get a better view of the fort interior.

Kiana's view affords her safety as she notices in the clear blue waters near to her companions. A shark prowls the nearby shallow waters.
A badly damaged ship, half of it underwater seems empty and has being abandoned for some time. There seems to have being some fight with a majority of the damage being on deck. Gouges have being dug into the main mast.
Further away from it is something she doesn't want to deal with as its tentacles snag a passing bird and pull it swiftly down to a watery doom. What's interesting is that there is a chain tethering it to its place. A horror of the deep. A giant squid though not yet a kraken, a foe such as that is not to be triffled with.
The fort is clearly abandoned, the wooden pallisade is up and seems sturdy but nothing else seems done. The building is simply a an empty space surrounded by a wall and there are no signs of anyone else within.
Kiana does notice that there seems to be scattered weapons around.
Kiana Sunbane |
Kiana lands near everyone, takes a second to get her breath back, and begins to report.
"In the next cove over, there is a ship. Something large smashed it on deck and sank it. I suspect any thing valuable on it is still on it, as it looks like the attack came from outside and on the deck. Unfortunately, there is a chained squid and a free roaming shark around it, so not sure if we can salvage anything from it. Plus I'm rather nervous about something that can leave claw marks in a ship's deck and sink it that are visible from a 100 ft up in the air. The fort is empty, and abandoned. However, there are weapons laying around inside, as if something plucked the people inside up, no bodies or skeletons." She finishes her report and looks thoughtful. "There are a dozen things that could have done this, the least dangerous of which would be harpies or my own people, using enlargement spells or pet rocs. Rocs could also do it. Dragons could as well."
Yuki Okano |
"Thanks Kiana! I think we should check out the fort first, we'll probably need the hopefully better weapons with all the other crazy stuff on this island. If we're lucky whatever wasted the fort is long gone by now."
Kiana Sunbane |
Kiana nods, and draws a simple map in the wet sand, showing them where the steps are, and the door to the wall. "I'll fly overhead to warn you if I see anything. I may need to land inside and open the gate."
Not sure if the gate is open as depicted in the map, or closed. Kiana will keep an eye on the weapons in the fort looking for a long bow on the ground as she flies overhead.
