So I got my hands on Only War. Perhaps the only dark heresy spin off I'd want to run (I'd much rather play Rogue Trader). I'm reading through it and getting familiar with the rules and working on understanding the game itself.

If this was going to be a game where I'd need to have a firm grasp of the rules on the fly I'd take my time on this. But, the advantage of PbP is people can learn at relatively the same pace as long as the foundations of the game (the actual players and world) are there.

So, I know most people here play Pathfinder or some version thereof so I don't exactly expect many people to understand anymore than I do and that's okay.

I have one person, a possible second, and I need two more to get started.

So with that in mind I'm only keeping recruitment up until Wednesday. Why? Well I don't expect complete characters as most of the actual work has to be done collaboratively (particularly regiment selection).

Scenario wise the game will be relatively short and will take place entirely on a paradise world.

So this recruitment will only ask a few questions to get an idea on what character you are thinking about. Don't go too deeply into it as the character can greatly change during the actual creation process.

I'm willing to work with someone getting through the creation process for their character if I feel it's worth the time.

In the mean time.

What is your characters first experience with death?

How important is family to your character?

Describe your characters childhood.

Within the limitations of not quite knowing exactly what type of regiment, whether we're running with or without ogryn, etc, etc, etc... I'll put my hand up for involvement.

What is your characters first experience with death?
"At basic... some idiot didn't put his helmet on before live fire exercises. Suffice to say he... nor anyone that got painted with his brain matter'll make that mistake again."

How important is family to your character?
"Worth nothing and everything... blood is gone, overrated. Only family I know is the bastards in the line beside. And if I don't care for them... then word'll get round and I'll end up with a monoknife in my kidney because some drek liked the shine on my boots"

Describe your characters childhood.
"Meaningless banality punctuated by short periods of sleep... then I joined the corp... now it's banality with some great purpose... and less sleep."

I would like to know if I can play a psyker before I give more details.

You can play a sanctioned psyker but I would not make such decisions yet.

Oh, I'm all for this, I've been wanting to play only war for a long time.

"My first experience with death was my sister, she was shot during a gang war.
A stray bullet the arbites said, unfortunate collateral damage taking down a Obscura dealing gang of lowlifes.
It didn't comfort me when I held her tiny little hand in mine as she bled to death with me unable to help at all...."

"After my sister died, I lost touch with my family, I think my father blamed me for my sister being there in the first place.
I still write to my mother now, but I never really get any replies.
Maybe she sends them and they just not reach me, maybe she never even reads my letters."

"It was a happy home at first, but it all changed on that day.
My father took to drink and became cold, my mother would retreat into housework so she didn't have to think.
Me? I got into trouble, in the end I only had a choice between taking up the lasgun or go to jail..."

Here is the problem I am having. Certain specialties would greatly affect how I would answer these questions.

Silver Crusade

"Hah, bloody pansies in the guard these days, my first experience at death was when I was 8. Bloody monsters back on catachan killed my mom right in my face, got me covered in her blood. Heh, picked up my dads rifle and showed that thing whats fer. "

"Family is your life-line. Specially your regiment family, you cover the few weaknessess each other have, you guard there backs, and they guard yours. Family ain't about blood, its about bonds and if you can't prove you deserve them, you wont be getting them from me. If you can't trust the man to your right, you've already lost. Less its jungle warfare, then its easy as taking candy from a beast back home."

"Harsh, bloody, and damn hot. growing up on catachan ain't easy. I was given the right to join the towns guard when I was 10. Stayed there until I was 16. After that, with all the kills under my belt, I was drafted into the guard. Dad was proud, to bad mom wasn't around. I plain on living to see em again. So if any bastard in my regiment tries to pull a stupid arse stunt, you can bet he wont do it."

You can answer as if your character had a future in those specialties but don't rely on that being the selling point. The group may decide during character creation, as an example, to have a total prejudice for the old too tall hats of the regiment and go out of their way to not exactly be inclusive.

IF we don't get any other interested parties by tommorrow we'll go with what we have.

This looks interesting.

Very much unfamiliar with any Warhammer past the 2nd ed FRPG and no access to the rules so I expect I will need a good bit of hand holding rule wise but here goes.

What is your characters first experience with death?
Death? Hmmm can't say I've had too much contact with the reaper. There was that accident with old algae vat but Harlen was drunk so I don't know if that counts.

How important is family to your character?
Family? Eh, they are scattered all over Armageddon now. I've kinda lost touch. Your work group though, that's another story. You gotta depend on them.

Describe your characters childhood.
Cresh raised in tower 23, left full on the Fighting 5's! Life in the hive was good. Don't believe anyone who says otherwise.

Concept is an alpha-complex infrared who wants to see the world. A happy vat worker who signed up to see how they could help and who is now finding out that life in the Guard is just as regimented as home but the work load is far far lighter. I mean the army doesn't even have production quotas!

And that's that. Recruitment closed return to your hive holes until next cycle for the tithe. Those caught trespassing in an hour will be shot as mutant sympathizers.

I dare ya to try and shoot me.
:p I love catachans.

Forgot to mention everyone who answered the questions can post in the discussion thread once I get it up.
