Alton Goodbarrel |
Alton led the guard to Richter and the others occasionally looking back to make sure Kurt was still following. "Richter this is for you until we get to the station. Kurt welcome to base camp say hi to everybody, everybody say hi to Kurt, you can sit over there." Alton handed over the gun and pointed Kurt to his old seat.

Having moved the bodies, and after talking to some of the students, and reassuring others of their safety, Rosa goes quietly back to her seat and sits next to Nye again. Reaching over she gently takes one of his hands in hers and lightly squeezes it as if saying I'm here for you.

"Sure, no problem. Do you need anyone with you for backup....just in case. I still feel a little uneasy."

She shrugs, "You're taking a risk too doing this. What makes that any different? Just sayin.....Ill be close by, just yell if you need help and you'll have it."

She shrugs and absentmindedly rubs Nye's arm supportivly.

Aneirin perks up when he notices Richter leave.
"Where is he going?".
Adamant he won't fail again he begins to work at unfastening the clasps holding his mace to his bag.
Well. I might fail to kill a man, but I'll surely stop him killing me or my friends...

Richter returns a short while later, but says nothing. Now that the chaos has died down, the trip continues in relative peace. None of the subdued guards say much of anything, including Lenz who comes around about 4 hours later. You see the three-tiered city of Oldenburg rise in the distance, airships circling near the top.
The train rolls into the North Registration Office station a little after noon. As soon as the train stops, it is boarded by iron armored officers who escort Lenz, Kurt and the others off the train. Another officer, this one clad in black armor, comes to take Richter off the train. The young guard gives you a reassuring nod as the grey uniformed officials of the registration office come aboard to guide the passengers into the building.
The new arrivals are grouped into tens, while you are left in the group of six. You are led to a small classroom, with a metal desk occupying the front of the room and several iron chairs in the rear. The officers ask you to remain there for a while. You sit and wait, the slow-ticking clock the only sound in the room.
Forty-five minutes later, an older gentleman with silver and black hair enters the room. His military jacket is decorated with several dozen medals. He wears a pair of spectacles that click and whir as he looks over all of you. A large book rests underneath his arm and he sets this on the metal desk.
"Good afternoon...Welcome to Oldenburg. Glad you could make it."
His face bears a kind smile which quickly fades away. "Those are probably the last kind words you'll hear for a while. My name is Heiger, Kommandant Heiger. I'll get to the point as quickly as I can. You've done us a great service and saved quite a few people. Unfortunately, this will be covered up and any gratitude you are owed will be forgotten. Lenz's sentiments are shared among the majority of people here.
"You are now Nameless, like the other three hundred thousand people living in Lower Oldenburg. You'll have to fight for every inch of space and every crust of bread. I'll spare you the lies of needing to go straight to the Job Office. You'll spend all day in line and have nothing to show for it. I'll also tell you that the work offered won't get you anywhere. You can spend twenty years at it and still live in the same tenement, if you're lucky to get into it.
"I see that you aren't ordinary transfers from Lohne. Your actions prove that. So I'm going to give you a tip. Cash your money vouchers if you still have them, take the number thirty-two bus and get off at The Ramp. Go see a dwarf named Kaplan, you can't miss his place. Smoke's billowing out of it day and night. He can get you your effects a hair cheaper than the regular stores and he's always looking for new help.
"Oldenburg is broken and unchanging. The ones at the top just slap a new coat of paint over the gaping holes in this city. There is only one way out: make a name for yourself, save your money and get out of here as soon as possible. There is a world out there, so I'm told, beyond the wasteland. It's got to be better than this. How you accomplish it is up to you, but I've given you more advice than most people get.
"I've also gotten you rooms at the Paradies Hotel for the night. It's a safe neighborhood above The Ramp. Kaplan will make sure you get there if you go see him. Just tell him I sent you, but he should receive a message shortly."
Heiger sighs, his glasses ticking away. "Of course, you can forget my advice and do what you want. The shops are about half a block from here. Any questions?"

A little bit ago
Rosa puts a comforting arm around Nye, "It's alright, he's just going to speak with the engineer of the train. Everything is alright now." She smiles at him as she sqeezes his hand gently.

Aneirin listens with undisguised contempt. His family were always telling him these city people were debased. Heigel's summation of the situation of teeming thousands confirms his worst suspicions.
"Thank you for your candour and advice Kommandant. Perhaps one day you too will escape this place - if you truly believe it to be a prison - regardless of which side or tier you live on."

Rosa can't help but smile at Nye's comment. Reaching out she touches his hand and nods. "Yes, thanks for the advice. I guess we will be taking our leave of you now." Standing up she looks at the others, "So.....is everyone ready for an adventure? I know I'm ready to get the hell outta here. No offense meant, but I've had enough with cages."

When your first action of note is shooting a guy in the back, even for the best of reasons, then telling him he owes you for the bullet......you've got a bit of a dark side.
Vivian Mulvaney |
Vivian felt completely and utterly lost. Somewhere inside she'd know that the center's books would paint the city in the most positive light possible, but she could never have expected this. Everything she knew, everything she believed, all her hopes....they were all a lie.
Standing outside of the Registration Office, she could feel the depression beginning to set in.
Vi's got about 27 gold left.
Rosalina Luri |
I know right? I just had to say it, I couldn't help myself. Lol Hey, I told him we were even when the damages were done to the cabin. That was pretty nice of me.....I thought so anyways. Now I gotta keep Vi from having a nervous breakdown....so, if you'll excuse me.....Lol I'm so crazy.....

Seeing Vi looking so lost really tugged at Rosa's heart. Walking over to her, she puts an arm around her in a semi hug. "It'll be okay, we'll all get out of this forsaken place eventually. Until then, we'll all stick together and have each others backs, just like we did back in that other hellish place. As soon as the others are ready we're gonna hop on that bus and go see the dwarf, then we're gonna relax for once. Okay? Don't worry, everything's going to be alright....I promise. I'll see if I can get some material and maybe I can make ya a new outfit. I know clothes always cheer me up." She smiles at Vi, hoping that her words at least offer a little comfort.

She just nods. Getting up she gently pats Amara on the arm. "Ya did good. I don't think he's gonna hurt anyone else though. It's okay for you to relax now, though I really appreciated the backup." She smiles at Amara[/smaller]
Amara relaxes and goes back to her seat, though her tail is not swaying gently like before. This time she plays with it in her hands, sometimes softly biting it while she is deep in thought.
Alton can tell that Richter feels bad for the group, perhaps even guilty for not catching onto Lenz's scheme.
Amara notes the way Richter is acting and the reactions regarding him.
Sense Motive against Ricther: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Amara is somewhat suspicious of the man, but lets him go if no immediate actions are taken against the students.

...
"You are a kind man, thank you. My only question, what makes you stay in such a place?"
She continues with the rest of the group once he answers her.
Moving on...
"Cage free indeed! I have had enough of being told when and where to do EVERYTHING. I want to make my own decisions and take responsibility for them. Arbitrary rules be damned!" she says a bit too vehemently. She quickly composes herself after her exclaimation.
At the bus.
"I have money left over. Who needs some?"
Rosalina Luri |
Rosa nods in understanding of what her friend is unable to put into words, "Yeah...I know. Hey...but bright side, new clothes. Huh?" She moves her eyebrows up and down in that mischievous way she had of doing when cooking something up.
Rosalina Luri |
Rosa bends down and hugs Amara lightly, being careful not to get caught up in her spines. "You're too sweet Amara...and about your little outburst back there.......I couldn't agree with you more. Just hold onto your money for now until we know what's what. As soon as everyone's ready we'll head out." Rosa seems to be almost vibrating with the excitement of finally being out of the Center after soooo many years. Even if they are in another larger type of "prison" it won't be for long.
