Cool. I'm rarely out that direction, though I lived out near there for a while a few years ago. :)

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

I used to live in Garland about 25 years ago! :)

True story - Gnolls founded TX... just sayin'.

Mr. Shaggar, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Golly, a simple "Wrong" would have sufficed.

"Oh yeah?!?"

He concludes triumphantly, sure that his brilliant quip cannot be rebutted.

Oddly enough, when you're a 2.5 foot halfling staring at the business end of 7 feet of gnoll... that's quite enough of a rejoinder. :)

Nah, ol Javi has "Don't Mess With Texas" and "He done needed killin'" bumper stickers.

:D

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

I'm sure you're right, I just wanted Mr Sandler to know we appreciated his material.

Hey, I obviously have an appreciation for his particular brand of genius.

And I'm actually not as TEXAS IS GOD'S COUNTRY as most of my friends.

True story - Gnolls love Sandler. :D

I'm waiting for a DM to send me up against a Red Jester just so I can say THIS.

Osirion

The in game post is up! Come, my friends, and grasp your destiny!

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

WAHOOO!!!

Hey! Hey! We're up and running!

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Praise the servers! I don't know about you guys but I've been locked out since yesterday. Phew. Glad that's over and hopefully it stays over!

HP 51/54 :: AC 24 T 19 FF 17 :: CMD 24 :: F +8 R +12 W +4 :: Initiative +6 Perception +12 (-4 sight-based/+2 traps) :: Google Doc

Agreed. hate to have it happen on such a fresh game.

Yeah, everyone was locked out. All the posts were from yesterday when I finally managed to get back on.

Male Catfolk Bard ( Dervish Dancer ) 1 Theme Song

Yep, started to feel like I was withdraw. Didn't know what to do with myself.

Male Catfolk Bard ( Dervish Dancer ) 1 Theme Song

I was loving all the links that were being put in. I want this to be the song that Del starts his battle dance with and any time he enters a room. ;)

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Agreed, those extra links were awesome!

Male Human (Keleshite) Ranger/1 (Shapeshifter)

I thought that work had finally blocked this site. That was a very bad feeling...

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Agreed!

Osirion

Work blocked the site for me... Not easy with 12hr days...

That does suck. I have not been able to post yet tonight. Hella busy here right now. Will try later. I am here 5 pm to 7:30 am tomorrow so plenty of time left. =D

Thank you! They're part of my style--I like adding music, pictures, and other media to help flesh out the world.

Feel free to do the same! Choose theme music for yourselves, post stuff you find, or even just post whatever you like in the OOC thread for enjoyment.

I'll work on moving things forward shortly...

FIRST WORLD PROBLEMS

I finally have free time to post to my pbp games...

[insert picture of crying middle aged white woman here]

Paizo.com is down again.

I will try to post in game now that the site is back up again.

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Sorry for the infrequent posting lately, I'm undergoing a job change and it's making things extra busy for me. That'll start on Jan 2 and fingers crossed they don't block Paizo! :)

Osirion

No problem, having a job situation in flux is perfectly natural these days...

HP 51/54 :: AC 24 T 19 FF 17 :: CMD 24 :: F +8 R +12 W +4 :: Initiative +6 Perception +12 (-4 sight-based/+2 traps) :: Google Doc

Sorry guys. Christmas descended on us abruptly. Will be back online as soon as i can.

Osirion

No problem, I figured as much. Happy Holidays!

Osirion

Starting to get the game back on track.

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Woot woot!

Okay, back in the saddle. So sorry for the extended absence. I'll be back to my normal posting routine now.

Catchign up in the thread to post.

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

From my phone: Just waiting on a new pc for my job, I can't really post from my phone effectively. It's just an exercise in frustration. I'll get it here any day now and be back in full force!

Osirion

Oof, I've had to post from my phone, before, too. Not a great way to get the post done.

... on top of looking like a mouthy little prat.

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Maybe the gnoll will miss? :)

I discussed the Duskwalker Guild a little bit with IVV. He didn't answer my queries line by line but said I was mostly on point.

So here is how I think it lays out loosely.

The Duskwalkers are a mafia-like organization but are not an 'illegal' group in Katapesh because the only law is "Do what you will, but do not interfere with trade." They run something of a protection racket in the Nightstalls - ensuring the trade continues while policing the thieves and keeping violence, altercations, or whatnot to an acceptable minimum. It's not clear how much of their 'protection' fees are from subtle coercion of the merchants and how much is the Dusk being 'employed' by them. As such, they have wide latitude in handling matters. IVV didn't disagree when I wrote:

spoiler wrote:
I'm guessing they aren't concerned with the niceties of the law... so they don't need hard evidence of criminal activity, don't have to give the benefit of the doubt, don't have to be polite to patrons, and have a good deal of 'latitude' and personal discretion in terms of punishing offenders. So an important merchant crying "thief" - whether true or not - is likely to result in the possible thief beat up and dumped in an alley to crawl away and lick his wounds as an object lesson.

Shaggar having the title of Enforcer - seems to suggest that the Dusk do more 'hard thumping' than soft talking.

Also, the Dusk holds power, to some extent, by their tough reputation... so they are conscious of their image. And like any gang, they don't take folks slandering them openly... as it might encourage open-walleted merchants to question their value or toughness. So 'examples' probably get made.

And, unless I'm reading it wrong, the Dusk are actually a powerful group. If they run the Nightstalls, arguably the biggest illicit market in the world, they can't be doing that all based on bluster.

Anyhow, that's my understanding of things from my convo with IVV. Hopefully, he'll jump into here to clarify things more.

As an aside, I'd really this rather not become a PvP (assuming IVV doesn't forbid them). That rarely works out well for the longterm health of a game. But as an Enforcer for the Dusk, I'm trying to play Shaggar true to the organization's methods while tempering their 'punch first and punch second' attitude with his own sense of fair-play according to his alignment - hence the reason he hasn't attacked Javi, has endured a large number of insults, and actually bothered to investigate the truth as opposed to summarily delivering the beating that Tawid wanted.

HP 51/54 :: AC 24 T 19 FF 17 :: CMD 24 :: F +8 R +12 W +4 :: Initiative +6 Perception +12 (-4 sight-based/+2 traps) :: Google Doc

Yep. My initial read of them was more run-of-the-mill thugs financed by the merchants... which is pretty far off from the little i can find now.

... and pretty much makes Javi seem like an ass if he thinks he's gotten the best of them (seeing as he's a level 1 character).

I'm going with a brass pot banged him on the head and temporarily scrambled his brains. :)

Male Ratfolk Rogue / 1

Shaggar, maybe you can just rough him up a little. ;)

HP 51/54 :: AC 24 T 19 FF 17 :: CMD 24 :: F +8 R +12 W +4 :: Initiative +6 Perception +12 (-4 sight-based/+2 traps) :: Google Doc

Yah, i wish that fixed Javi looking like a fool. :/

Kitchikez wrote:

Ha! I think ol' Javi is roughing himself up plenty.

Osirion

Shaggar's pretty much right about the Dusk, but don't forget that being a very low member of the Dusk, while carrying authority, doesn't protect you from much.

I wasn't seeing the Dusk as being a shield from him getting knifed or that whole flocks of Duskmen would descend when one low level Enforcer got taken out - every organization has cannon-fodder.

But the reputation of the organization has to give the average person at least a moment's pause before they'd sink in a blade otherwise the reputation doesn't mean anything.

Put it this way... you are having a good time in a bar, maybe a bit too loudly, and some guy across the room tells you to shut the ^(*< up. You are about to share some words with the fellow when the bartender says, "I wouldn't. He's part of the Russian mob."

Is he a bad-ass? Is he a mob-boss? Is he a favored nephew of the boss? Is he a low level flunky who might be able to pound your head into the pavement on a good day? Or is he their accountant? The real question everyone faces in that moment is - do I want to risk it and how much trouble is it worth?

If that is applying too much 'real world logic' to the game, let me know. It's your ballpark and your rules. :)

Osirion

Yup, you got it.

And some day he'll be an old gnoll streaked with gray fur, telling petitioners "on this the day of the wedding of my pup..."
