Kalima feeling better from the healing is not completely healed so her hand glows with holy energy and she shoots herself with holy fire healing herself 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 damage. She then casts mending and prestidigitation to clean herself up.

Kalima says to Ahto, "Thank you good inquisitor for your mending. Humm, it appears these ruffians were far more resilient than I had hoped. If things had gone as planned I would have taken out half of them before they could have been able to draw a sword. Its the first time I've seen my Colour Spray be so ineffective. Still I must admit that I may have acted to hastily although as Aurelius has stated they would have attacked us and better that we strike first when they have us underestimated."

I'll say. We could've been killed straight-away, and the only reason we got into a fight - at that point - was because of their crude tongues. I hope Ahto's brand of justice helps to even out some of Lady Kalima's temper.

The gnome straightens up, satisfied. She notices the middle-aged woman at the gate.

"Hello, Svetlana!" Wonky offers brightly. "We probably would've liked to have met under a better set of circumstances. I'm Wonky Prong, Jr, but everyone calls me Wonky." She ruffles the haunches of her companion. "This is Sprocket. He's well-trained, of that you can rest assured! May we come in to inspect your brave outpost?"

Wonky moves into the compound if allowed, avoiding looking back at the violence behind her.

As Ahto sets down his gear and removes his armor, he suddenly notices the pain. He looks down and sees a deep cut where the bandit's blade for a seem between the plates of his armor.

He moves to stand over the bodies of the brigands, reaches for the iron key of Abadar around his neck, and intones a prayer.

"Be it Abadar's will that the sins you committed in life, the same sins that condemned you to death, be consumed in the fires of justice. May that same fire give me strength, and light my way through the darkness of anarchy and chaos."

As he speaks, a small white flame appears; hovering in the air mere inches before his face. An inky black, almost liquid smoke rises from the mouths of the corpses and slithers upwards, drawn as if through a hollow reed towards the flame.

As the smoke is consumed, the candle-like flame becomes a torch-sized ball of fire. Ahto reaches out with his free hand and grasps the fire, cradling it in his hand. He brings it to his mouth, and inexplicably, swallows it; the licking flames flowing into his mouth as if from a drinking horn.

Ahto shudders as he swallows, the light of the fire slowly diffusing across his skin. The cut in his side closes, leaving a pink line of new skin.

Taking a moment to gather himself, Ahto releases his hold on the Key, takes a deep breath, then commences the work of digging the grave.

Wonky leads her mule in through the gates, preceded by Sprocket.

"We took on the charter to help to rid this section of the Stolen Lands of bandits, but by gum I was not expecting to encounter bandits within the first moments of finding civilisation in these parts, no I was not!" She swivels her head, taking in the interior of the compound. "Well, if this is not the cosiest and most well-laid-out last outpost of civilisation that I have ever had the Green Lady's good fortune to lay eyes upon! She changes tone and conversation topic with break-neck speed. "And how is your husband? May we meet him? I am not the most skilled with the healing arts, but I can do a thing or two with a poultice, if you have one. If ambulation is the difficulty, I would find it a sincere and welcome challenge to craft some form of mechanical device for your good husband to rely upon as a means of locomotion, given proper time and working conditions, of course."

Sprocket barks happily.

Svetlana seems overwhelmed by Wonky's chatter but tries to keep a smile on her face. She shows the party inside the outpost. She point to her left were the stables are and says You can leave your mounts there, there's hay for them and plenty of space since we only have the one horse she moves her hand towards a fenced area with a wooden roof opposite the gates That's our storage pen, to the right is our home, my husband is there resting she walks them to the building opposite the main hall This is our guest house, you can stay here as long as you need, there's only four beds but I'll try to prepare something so you all can sleep She opens the door and continues Please make yourselves at home, and once you're ready I'll be waiting to introduce you to my Oleg she walks towards the main hall and stops suddenly in her tracks You didn't by chance meet a young man, big moustache and long black hair, on your way here, did you?

Aurelius plucks the shackles from the air before strolling over to the bandit and stripping him of all of his gear. He set the shackles and dragged the man over to Ahto before turning to relieve the others of their gear one by one, keeping it all with him.

What did he find? Assume he stripped them thoroughly and took everything of use . Do you want a perception check?

Aurelius whistled Hero to join him and pulled the dog away from the corpses before he could do more than sniff them.

"Come on pup. Not for you. Go annoy Sprocket!"

Aurelius finds:

Svetlana seems deflated hearing Wonky's answer about the man Oh, well I hope he's alright, if you're going to stay in the area please tell me if you meet him, he's my brother, I sent him a letter when Oleg was wounded asking him to come help us and I've yet to hear from him. she seems offended at Wonky's suggestion No guest of mine will sleep on the floor, I'll get you somewhere to sleep and a good meal, that's the least I can do. The sun is considerably lower in the sky by the time Ahto tamps the first down upon the bandits' grave.

He wipes the sweat from his brow, takes a quaff from his waterskin, and then begins the process of retrieving his gear. Once his pack is shouldered, and his unbound armor slung over his shoulder, he makes his way into the post. After a moment of two of surveillance, he locates the others in the guest quarters.

"Hmmm. Only four beds? I suppose we need to resolve that before evening is upon us."

He crosses the courtyard and knocks politely at the door of Oleg and Svetlana's residence.

"Beg your pardon, Mistress Svetlana," he says politely. "I do apologize for my current state," he adds, gesturing to his sweat and dirt-caked attire. "I noticed that there were only four beds in the guest house. Since there are five of us, would you object to me setting up my tent in the corner of the courtyard? In the interest of full disclosure, it is a large tent, as it also serves as a traveling shrine where I can pray. If it is not possible, or you do not wish me to do so, I will honor your decision, as this is your home."

After a few minutes Svetlana opens the door, her hands have little stains of blood. I'm sorry, I was changing my husband bandages and getting them boiled. I think we have an old mattress in our storage room, but if you prefer to set camp I of course have no problem. Which god do you serve if I may ask

If your husband is also a man of a good heart, I can also heal him with the touch of my divine fire. Its the least we can do to provide assistance."

Svetlana listens to Ahto and smiling answers I pay homage to the gods as everyone, wouldn't consider myself a follower of Erastil as such, but in these lands his name is one you'll get used to hearing. she takes a step back to let the Abadarian in Of course you can come, I sutured the wound as well as I could but mostly I've been trying to ease his pain she listens to Kalima Are you too an Abadarian priestess? I am Kalima Raustald, a noble of Taldor and one of those hired by the Dragonscale Throne in order to bring order to these lands by steaming the tide of banditry in the region. My fellow travelling companions have the same goal in this respect. I however see that the banditry is but a symptom of a greater problem which is the lack of occupancy in these lands. So it is my hope that once the banditry has been brought to heel these lands can be opened up for settlement and a new civilization can thrive in these lands. Of course an outpost such as this will play an important role and hopefully with more manpower we will be able to see expanded business for all of us. Of course perhaps I am thinking too far ahead on things, tee he he. For now the Bandits are the immediate concern. What can you tell us about them so we can use such information to flush them out?"

Wonky listens to Kalima's speech to Oleg with a bit of doubt colouring her expression.

New civilisation? Expanded business? Were not we just going to explore and map these lands, and perhaps do away with the trouble makers? Perhaps I am being a bit naive, but I think the Green Mother can continue to maintain these lands without the need for expansionist Taldor intent colouring all that we do.

Wonky shakes her head and asks, "How did those brigands come to be allowed entry to your outpost? I notice that your gates and walls are sturdy and heavy. Are they more organised than common highwaymen? Have other merchants been waylaid by their foul banditry?"

She abruptly looks around the interior of Oleg's house, the tone of her speech shifting as rapidly. "Also, I just want to say that I love the decorating that you have done in here. I can see that there have been conscious choices for comfort as well as function in much of what you have done. I will be sure that the dogs - we have two, you see, Sprocket and Hero - keep to the common yard and I will be happy to take care of their leavings so as not to further disrupt the order which prevails upon this domicile."

Paval had kept quiet for a bit after his initial introduction to Svetlana.

He took a step back to give Ahto room when he tried to heal Oleg. He himself was quite skilled with bandages and some antiseptic but magical healing was better still.

After Kalima and Wonky spoke he offered Oleg a smile and extended his hand in greetings, "My name is Paval. As my companions pointed out we are here primarily to oust the bandits. Once they have been dealt with we are to map this area and, if possible, prepare for further settlement of the region."

Oleg seems to stand a bit better after Ahto tends to his wounds. He listens intently to the each of the adventurers. This palisade looks better than it is, half of it is rotten and the half that isn't can't be defended by a single man. When they came first they were almos a dozen, led by a woman, she put a handaxe through one of his men head for trying to... hurt my Svetlana so I thought, better the devil you know, they come once a week for a part of my benefits, last time it wasn't enough aparently and I got an arrow to my leg as a warning... he seems pensive If you're here to fight them you're in for a bit of trouble, I've counted at least twenty different faces in the weeks they've been coming and by the way she talked I think that woman answers to someone even more dangerous he stops and smiles Anyway, what kind of guests are we, Svetlana, ready the tables our guests must be hungry and we can talk over a hot soup much better

Oleg meditates on the proposal of reinforcing the palisade. Well, you're welcome to help with our defences but to be fair, even if I had a full castle I don't think I could protect it on my own and it may make those bandits think this would be a good place for them to set camp he waits a minute for Svetlana to leave the room and lowers his voice I need to ask you for a favour, my brother-in-law, Lothar, was supposed to come here and hasn't arrived, he's a good for nothing womanizer and scoundrel but Svetlana really cares for him he keeps careful watch of the door I'm certain the idiot got himself done on his way here, but if you could look for him when you're exploring these land I would be most grateful he raises his voice again Anyway, you care for some wine? Divide and conquer would be the most prudent strategy in this case. With the ones we’ve slain here today their numbers should be less. Nonetheless, eventually this leading lady will take notice that her men have not returned and come back here in force. We certainly do not have the manpower right now to man and repair an entire outpost, nor do all of us have the skills to do so. After helping Oleg and Ahto construct the pavilion, Wonky asks Oleg for a moment.

"You are a merchant and tradesman, yes? I am need of some things, and though I have no coin at present, I am hoping that I might ask you to pray set the things I need aside if you have any in stock or if any were to come into your commercial trade, yes? I am seeking a set of tools - well, two sets of tools, really. I am both a budding weaponsmith and a part-time locksmith. I am sadly without the appropriate tools for either of those jobs at present, as I have not had the time nor the coin to practice my training with either, but I profess that my skills are still honed - of this, you can rest assured!" She takes a breath.

"Nevertheless, as I am a tinker by trade, I would happily trade my tinkering as barter in part for the tools in question, if you were to come across anything suitable. And thank you in advance, esteemed Oleg!"

She adds. "Oh, and let your good wife know that we will keep an eye out for her brother!" And Wonky retreats to tending to the mules - all of them - and then the dogs - both Hero and Sprocket - prior to turning in for the evening.

Oleg listens carefully to Wonky's order and writes it down in a piece of parchment. Alright young lady, now my leg is better I think it's high time I go get provisions so I'll be certain to bring these back for you. he smiles at her A decent smith could make a living in these dangerous lands so make sure you're still alive when I return

The rest of the night goes by without incident. The party is awoken by the smell of fried eggs and they go outside their beds to find Svetlana readying them a hearty breakfast and Oleg enjoying the sun as he puff his pipe. Good morning friends! I hope you slept well! she says.

I'll upload the Stolen Lands map this afternoon from home so you can start exploring when you want

Having enjoyed a proper bed for the first time in a long time, Wonky appears dreamily happy as she makes her way around the courtyard with the dogs. Smelling something, she notes Oleg on his front porch puffing away and produces the corncob pipe she was provided from the evening before.

"A morning puff to clear the mind of the cobwebs of slumber! Just the thing," the gnome spouts as she begins tamping down the pipe. She looks out at the far-away point that Oleg has been studying. "Do you have any suggestions as to which direction those bandits might hail from, Good Master Oleg?"

Oleg seems to ponder Wonky's wuestion before answering The first time they came, when that tough b@$~$ was leading them they arrived from the south, maybe south-west. I'm sorry I'm unable to give you better directions

Once the pavilion is properly erected, Ahto gets a bucket of water from the well and retreats inside. He takes the next hour using the water to wash the dirt and sweat off before going to sleep.

He awakes with the sunrise, dresses and begins his morning prayers, during which he unpacks and arranges the portable altar and shrine to Abadar inside the pavilion's confines.

Once his prayers have been completed, he steps out into the courtyard and greets Wonky and Oleg, both who seem to have been awake at least as long as he has.

"Good morning, friends. I trust you slept well?"

Kalima Raustald wakes up somewhat better rested although the beds are not up to the snuff that she's used to. Still better than sleeping on the ground however.

"Better than in the wild I suppose. So shall we get a meal and then head out into the world to find more bandits?"

"Good morning to you, Lady Kalima! I think Svetlana is frying some eggs for us! I was talking to Oleg just now, and he says that the first time that the bandit group approached the outpost, he noted that they arrived from a southerly position. Did I get that correct, Master Oleg?"

Wonky continues happily puffing on her pipe, watching Sprocket and Hero play in the yard together.

That's right young lady says Oleg. I'm afraid lately they've come from different directions but I don't know if they've moved camp or have more than one. Or even if they didn't come directly for wherever they're camped he smiles at Wonky Anyway young lady, promise me you'll be careful, my wife has taken a shine to you

"I suggest we get a lay of the nearby area; walk a perimeter to the post for the day, and come back here tonight. If the bandits are planning a retaliation, we need to see them coming, and be able to get back here quickly," Ahto offers.

He sits down on a nearby bench and unsheathes his great sword, checks the blade for nicks and notches, then proceeds to hone and oil the blade.

"Were we going to question the bandit that we captured alive?" Wonky asks innocently. "I thought Aurelius was handling his capture - maybe we should ask him?"

Wonky takes a warm plate of eggs. "This looks delicious!"

"He will need healing," Ahto replies. "I will go see to him."

Ahto sheathes his sword and straps it onto his back. "Could you bring me a bowl of mashed oats or gruel? Something filling but not tasty," he asks Wonky. "He'll be quite hungry by now."

Ahto walks over to the horse stall where the bandit has been lying bound and shackled for the night.

"Time to be awake," Ahto says loudly to the man. "I will feed you and treat your wounds. The quality of the food and medicine will be commensurate with the truthfulness of your answers to my questions."

"Yeah, um, sure." Wonky asks Svetlana for some oat mash in response to Ahto's suggestion.

The gnome waits until out of sight of Ahto. "But put some butter or a bit of sugar in it, please," Wonky asks in dissention to the direct request, "It is likely to be the man's last meal before his lawfully-deemed execution, is it not? I could not hold myself accountable for gustatory cruelty at the end of someone's time on this sphere." She smiles at Svetlana.
