On Stranger Tides: a Goblin Tale (Inactive)

Game Master James Martin

A tale of goblins and piracy and the havoc that the two can wreak...

Hello!

We are in need of 1-2 players to join an existing PbP. Currently the players are 2nd level, and adventuring in a Post-Rise of the Runelords Sandpoint. The IC thread is here and the OOC thread is here.

Currently we have the following characters:
A dwarf ranger
A dwarf cleric
A human rogue

I will leave this thread open until Friday, March 25th. Please submit a character idea and reason your character would be in Sandpoint for a mid-summer festival. Thanks!

Hello My name is Creel and I've just arrived for the festival. I am pretty much a wanderer. I travel where the road takes me. When a friend in Magimar mentioned she needed a message (or package, or person) taken up to Sandpoint I volunteered. The festival is really a bonus.

Creel is either a monk, a bard, or a warrior of the holy light depending on what the group needs. I don't forsee moving out of his beginning class. He is human with a brash friendly manner. He is LG, NG, or CG depending on class and in any case stresses the Good over the law or chaos. I am aiming for something midway between Kwai Chang Caine and Dudley Doright. Someone smart and capable but far too trusting and way too willing to help. He is largely an innocent who is about to meet the real world. Will he be tempered or will he shatter?

I see the errand as either something that was dealt with before the game starts or it can provide a hook to a later part of the plot. Perhaps Creel was working for the wrong side, wouldn't be the first time. Perhaps he brought up some specialist supplies or a translation of an inscription for the Pathfinder group. Or it could just be some business info for one of the trading companies or even a personal letter.

Personally I enjoy role play and moments of awesome over fine grained tweaking for effectiveness. I tend to want to push the plot forward as discovery is a strong personal motivator.

This would be my first pbp but I can easily manage the pace shown in the game threads.

Please let me know and I'll get Creel stated up.

I'll bite. I've been running too many games and I really have a strong desire to play in one.

Need a bit of clarification here though. Is this during the rise of the rune lords ap or part of the aftermath?

Name: Snorri Helmsplitter
Class: Fighter
AL: CG

Snorri is a mountain of an Ulfen man who has wandered the world in search of glory, gold, and battle. Loud, boastful, brutal, he has come to sand point in search of of gold, glory, battle and because of the festival fine drink as well.

He will never be satisfied with stories of being a fine warrior or a simple farmer. He wants to take his blade and his strength and force history itself to carve his name into immortal stone at sword point. Still though he is not an evil man and would never knowingly harm an innocent. Burn down the castle, kill the soldiers and ride off carrying the princesses wardrobe and jewelry case sure, but unlikely to be putting the torch to villages or cutting down women and children.

snip...

From what I see it's post at least part of Rise. Pathfinders searching the ruins but there are still goblins around.
At least according to the first bit of the IC thread which I read before I saw there was an opening.

HEY MYSTERIOUS, should we be reading the IC/OOC threads to get up to speed or do you want to limit the info we come in with. Assuming we get picked that is.

Mind you adding my Warrior of holy light and your fighter would add a good bit of backbone to the rogue cleric ranger party that they have. We would lack any arcane however. hmmmmmmm I think with this group I am leaning towards bard or even destiny bloodline sorcerer. Trying to get away from playing spellcasters all the time though.

You can definitely read the OOC and IC threads. I'll be taking submissions here and then the players and I will be choosing 1-2 people to join. I'll let everyone know once the submission period is over and all votes have been cast.

Ok, I know nothing about the AP's beyond my desire to play in them so I wanted to know.

Alternatively I could play a varisian sorceror if there's a desperate need for such I can play either way. I can and will also detail much more if selected for ither.

Name: Caithan Kalson
AL: CG
Class: Sorceror (Fey Bloodline)

Caithan Kalson has never done a hard days work in his life. When forced to do labor he convinced someone else to do it for him. When he needed money, he got it through lies, tricks, and spell until he got it. When he wanted a woman he found the prettiest thing in town, husband or not, and used his exotic good looks and charm to get what he wanted and then ran when father or husband found out.

For much of his life he has lived a charmed, if illegitimate, lifestyle free of care or worry. That is until he became a suspect of murder. IT was on a night where one of his conquests husbands discovered her affair and took out his anger that he became the prime suspect. Fearing for his life and his freedom he fled the law and the wrathful widower to regroup, perhaps change his name, and hopefully return to exact his vengeance on the bastard.

He enters the town penniless and exhausted hoping to use the festival as cover so he can reconnoiter, recover, get some money, and perhaps experience some life changing matters. Either way Caithan isn't exactly carefree anymore.

Name: Brax Hickson
AL: LN
Class: Wizard or Bard

Brax grew up near Augustana, a son of a lumber merchant. He negotiated several contracts of lumber in the busy city of Katapesh before a rival merchant hired pirates to run his ship. The plot was successful and Brax and his remaining crew was soon captured by Gnolls. Brax was sold in the Katapesh slave market to an apothecary in need of servants and test subjects. He befriended several other servants in the household and together they managed to overpower their master and free themselves. Brax still keeps in touch with the other servants but has relocated to Solku to help fight the Gnoll raiders and learn from the Archive of Eminent Tomes' curator, Menthis Palp. Palp was impressed with his thirst for knowledge and decided to keep him around as a apprentice's assistant, until a position opened up for apprentice.
Palp is in Sandpoint on a fact finding mission for the Archives on Thassilon lore, for which he is not at liberty to discuss more detail.

Brax had a quick wit and always keeps a hidden dagger or two, "Just in case." He despises Gnolls for what they did to him and prefers to not engage in combat unless he is convinced he can win or innocents are in danger.

OOOOoooo I like Caithan.

If my vote means anything.....

If Caithan is covering the arcane end then Creel will go Warrior of Holy light.

Background for Creel: Born somewhere in the slums of Riddleport. Creel was lucky enough to be taken in by an elderly priest of Iomedae named Lycanthius. Raised jointly by the priest and the congregation, Creel seemed to be headed for a life clerical devotion.

Then the river rose.

Working in pounding rain and pitch darkness pulling people out of flooded, collapsing hovels. Creel suddenly realized he could see. Light was pouring out of his body. The light allowed him to save several people and get out before the river completely undermined the building.

Many people died in the flood. Lycanthius was one of them.
Life was not the same after that. The incident with the light separated Creel from his neighbors. No longer having a real home Creel followed the call of the road. Doing what he can when he can to make life better.

Rough stats under the name.
I used the character building guidelines found in the OOC thread.

Are you using the Runelord traits?

I'll bite as well. I've got several options.

Halsanna Firdraes:
(Crossbowman)
The oldest daughter of twins, sired by Sir Oribar Firdraes (and abandoned with him by their mother), Halsanna has taken it upon herself to be the "buffer" between her younger sister Vivaeri, and her father. Given that her father is looking to follow the path of a Paladin and her sister is (both personality and profession-wise)a jester, she often fears that if she left the two alone in a room and one were not sleeping or unconscious, something would explode. There is little that she would not do for her sister, having been forced to come to terms with the idea that the two of them would outlive their family, save for their merchant Uncle Amunrel, who is likely to outlive them.
She has memories of her mother, usually fond, though she never really stayed around, even when she tried to make herself extra-pretty, and was a 'good girl' around her. She could always remember looking up at her mother hopefully, and asking her not to leave this time. She never understood the expression on her mother's face when she would ask that, but she always put on a pretty smile, hugged her so tight that she could smell the flowers that always seemed to be in her hair but she could never find, and said, "I can't. but don't ever think I don't love you.."

Eventually, she realized that it could not change her mother's mind and rebelled, decided she wanted nothing to do with being a 'good girl' or 'pretty'. She took care of her precious little sister (she even had pointy ears like her, so they matched!) and paid attention when 'Father' threw himself into his lessons, the sisters keeping each other from trouble with toys and tricks and games that her oft-visiting uncles taught her.

Looking after her sibling when they were younger helped develop her sense of practicality, and she took that a step further when she decided to apprentice herself to the town's weaponsmith. After all, it is still a wild world beyond their small town, and weapons were tools. Her crafting of weapons led her to join a less than prestigious fighter's school, since she detested politics, and court was enough politics to make her head swim. Plying her craft to take up some of the pinch of her entry fee into the fighter's school, she also did the same when 'Vae said she wanted to join a bardic academy. In truth, she could care less about the name of the school that she herself attended, only that what they taught was taught well.

After an escapade involving learning that her sister was engaged, the two of them relented, and she decided to get away for a while, hiring on as an escort and crossbowman.

Ianthé Jack:
(Magus)
Ianthé had grown up far more practically than most of the common women. The adage "work smarter, not harder" is the primary rule of her life, and one she has stuck by. Most recently from a stint with a mercenary corps fighting paperwork over a desk. Originally from Taldor, she was seduced away by tales of gypsies, goblins, and the fame of the "Wild Frontier". For lack of anything better to do once she got there, her (somewhat dazzled) reason figured that if she wanted to be a part of, or see any of these tales, she would have to be where the action was. To that end, she signed on with "Alladrin's Shield Bearers", and while she heard the stories-- secondhand, she had yet to be a part of any. So after a year of work, she decided to travel back home, slightly disillusioned, to visit her family before returning to try to have another go at it. Of course, she never said she was taking the short way back.

I would like to change the concept I proposed.

I am more and more intrigued by the Monk of the Four Winds so I am performing a class transplant on Creel.

The reason for being in Sandpoint remains the same. He is acting as a semi-paid messenger for someone, perhaps even acting as a porter for Brax and Palp if Plinke makes the cut as well.

Background remains largely the same as well. Orphan in Riddleport slums.
Adopted and trained by an eccentric master living almost like a hermit in the city. Flood. Masters death or disappearance. Life of walking softly on the land beckons.

I hope this does not pose a problem.
~Creel

Sorry to clog the thread.

Changed name and avatar pic to better fit the monk. Creel is a good name but it just wasn't working.

Please read "Durant" for "Creel" in previous posts.

That is all

Okay, we'll be discussing the submissions and getting back to you shortly. Thanks!

An ammendment to my last, Palp is not in Sandpoint, as he is a home body and rarely leaves the Archives in Solku. Brax is on the mission for him.

Thinking over Durant's combat role. I see him as a flanker and a caster killer. Acrobatics, especially once I get the 1ki for +20 for leaping, will allow me to cross the enemies line and start to flurry their casters.

If we are talking single targets then grab and hold while the others attack becomes an option.

At least that's how I see things going.

Okay, after a lot of thought, I'd like to invite Me'Mori: Ianthé Jack, Magus and TarkXT: Caithan Kalson, Sorcerer to join us. It was a tough choice, and if you weren't chosen, I'll keep you on as alternatives in case anyone else has to drop out for any reason. Thanks!

Oh crumbs....

Thanks for considering me, and PLEASE keep me in mind if things change.

That was a tough choice. There were some good concepts there. Thanks again for considering me and...

...Enjoy the game
