Bollwerk makes short work of the cultist to the right of Kazul, and the half orc manages to slay the other through a mix of skill and luck. The two blind tieflings stagger back again, trying get out of the way. In the meantime, the two cultists are joined by two more from the same room. The first two advance with their glaives, striking in vain at Bollwerk. Behind them, their companions call for Kazul to drop his weapon and surrender.
Kazul Will save vs Command spell: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Fabian continues to keep his ward active, waiting for the stairs to clear.
ROUND FOUR: PCs, then bad guys.
Farasha Aeval |
Quickly stepping to the space Bollwerk vacated, Farasha aims again and fires at the closest of the approaching cultists.
5 ft. step to G10

Fabian Moldonado |
Fabian continues to maintain his protective ward; this will be its last round. (He may start it up again next round, though, depending on how the situation evolves.)
Effect in progress: allies within 10 feet of Fabian get a +2 Deflection bonus to AC. 1 round remains.
Old Guy GM |
Bollwerk steps into the hedge of glaives and cuts down a cultist, while Farasha's arrows slay another. The remaining two cultists hack at the advancing paladin, but their blows glance harmlessly off of his shield.
Elsewhere, the blindness effect wears of just in time for Kazul to kill his opponent. The last rogue steps up and hurls a dagger at Bollwerk to no effect.
At the end of the hall behind you all, nearest Kazul, a door opens and a creature with a goat-like head emerges. It takes a second to bare its teeth and snarl, then it moves to another door and yanks it open!
ROUND FIVE: PCs, then Evil.
Farasha Aeval |
Without breaking stride, Farasha notes the new arrival but chooses to focus on the less well-armored and menacing enemies for now, supporting Bollwerk's efforts.
Mwk comp. longbow DA RS: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19

Kazul the Bear |
By my calculations, this is our last round of Haste, as Sjurd cast it in Round 1.
Glad to have his sight back, Kazul moves to F7 and rages and attacks the newcomer twice with power attack with his cold iron falchion!
Hasted Power attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 11 - 2 + 2 = 30
Damage: 2d4 + 5 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (3, 1) + 5 + 6 + 3 = 18
Normal Power attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 11 - 2 + 2 = 18
Damage: 2d4 + 5 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 5 + 6 + 3 = 19
Critical confirmation: Power attack: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 11 - 2 + 2 = 25
Additional damage: 2d4 + 5 + 6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 2) + 5 + 6 + 3 = 20
So if critical confirmed, 38 damage!

Rounds of rage used: 1
Old Guy GM |
Sjurd hits a cultist with a bolt, and Bollwerk finishes the job with a timely thrust from Radiance. Farasha's arrow nearly kills the last of them. Kazul steps up to the demon and cuts it in two!
The last cultist makes a desparate move, stepping back calling the power of her dark patron. Dark energy flows from her hand engulfing those around her! 8 hp damage, DC13 Will save for half - Bollwerk, Farasha, Sjurd. The tiefling rogue looks at her wide-eyed, then screams as the energy hits him, and so dies.
Fabian continues (restarts?) his ward.
Through the open door steps a slavering beast. This creature has a stag's body, a hawk's wings and talons, and the head of a snarling wolf with a rack of sharp antlers on its brow. With a howl, it attacks Kazul. It gores him with an antler, (-5 hp Kazul.) and then with ravening teeth begins to savage the half-orc's chest, trying to rip his heart out! (Crit. -12 hp, Kazul.)
ROUND SIX: PCs, then the npcs.
Bollwerk |
Will: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Moving forward and calling for aid from the gods Bollwerk declares his second holy smite on the foul beast.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (1) + 11 = 121d8 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19AC 28 vs the beast
Fabian Moldonado |
Seeing the landing clear, Fabian moves up to the top of the staircase. He peeks around the corner, sees the cultist there, and fires off his wand of magic missiles at it.
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Farasha Aeval |
We've been hasted!? Whoops! Ah well never mind :)

Old Guy GM |
Remember you take half damage from the channel if you made your Will save, so -4 hp. Sjurd, you don't have line of sight to anything, so I moved you.
The cultist hacks at Bollwerk as he moves to engage the creature, but misses. AoO miss.
Bollwerk, Sjurd and Farasha all miss the creature in the corner, but Kazul lands a solid blow with his falchion. Ignoring the spell hit, the cultist steps up to stab at Farasha, but does not connect. The creature continues to stomp and gore at Kazul, hitting the half-orc twice! -11 hp Kazul., staggering him. I have you at 0 hp.
Form the behind the door next to Sjurd there comes a heavy 'thud' as if someone or something hit it with a solid blow.
Farasha Aeval |
Farasha steps away from the cultist's weapon and fires two shots at her

Bollwerk |
"Behind me Kazul! Please!"
Looking at the foul beast, unseen to anyone the tiefling smiles! The humans and tieflings are pawns, drawn to the chaos by false promises and despair, but here is an enemy who is not corrupted, but the corruptor and an enemy were everything is simple.
Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 141d8 + 14 ⇒ (8) + 14 = 22
Fabian Moldonado |
Fabian runs into the room (to G9), probably provoking an attack of opportunity as he does so. He pulls out a potion of Cure Serious Wounds and holds it out. "Kazul! Take this!"
Old Guy GM |
Fabian does indeed get struck by the cultist as he dashes into the hall. -9 hp Fabian. The peryton shifts aside, goring and stomping the paladin and rogue. -4 hp Kazul, -6 Bollwerk. Peryton AC 17
Just beyond the door Sjurd opened, four zombies who were pounding at the door slip and fall into he grease!
Sorry about that. ROUND SEVEN: PCs, then mobs.
Farasha Aeval |
Farasha calmly draws two more arrows, sighting at the cultist just in front of her.

Old Guy GM |
Bollwerk cuts down the savage peryton, while Farasha eliminates the cultist with a well-placed arrow. Nearby, the zombies struggle to get to their feet, with no luck. They begin to crawl towards the door.
Busy again, so map is not updated. Peryton is dead, cultist dead. Kazul can drink potion. Four prone zombies trying to get out to you.
ROUND EIGHT: PCs, zombies
Farasha Aeval |
Farasha steps next to Sjurd, looking at the zombies with a compassionate gaze.
I release you from the unholy magic that has tethered you to this plane, go now to your final rest...
She presents her holy symbol forward, beseeching Desna for her aid
positive channel: 3d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 3) = 10
Old Guy GM |
The holy light of Desna washes over the struggling zombies, stripping away the putrescent flesh, leaving nothing but the corpses of the crusaders they once were.
Quick room descriptions:
P11 A long table engraved with a relief map of Mendev stands to the east in this long room. A dozen bodies lie scattered about the
room, each bearing a gaping empty hole in the chest.
P12 Bookshelves line the walls of this small library. Many of the tomes have been torn to shreds, and smoldering piles of ashes
fill the room with an acrid stench. One small stack of books on a
circular table seem to have escaped destruction.
P14 Stacks of scrolls, books, maps, and more sit atop a large hexagonal table in this room. The walls are painted with detailed
maps of Sarkoris, over which features of the Worldwound have been painted.
P15 The southern portion of this room holds a wide alabaster basin filled with bloody entrails. The outside of the basin is carved with images of warriors around a raised sun, holding longswords aloft. A flight of stairs ascends to the west.
P16 Six cots sit in two orderly rows in this room. The bedding has been tossed on the ground, and an iron lockbox lies on its side, empty. A lidless box holds scraps of moldering food, while a pair of large barrels nearby look to be filled with water.
Bollwerk |
Seeing the basin filled with entrails, Bollwerk checks if everybody of his comrades are safe, at least for the moment, then he moves forward to clean the stain on this seemingly holy place.
"Kazul can you stand guard and Sjurd and Fabian, grab the books and then please check the room with the maps. This could be information vital to the defense, and I do not want any items for the defilers!"
Farasha Aeval |
Hang on Kazul, now things have quieted, Farasha would offer aid before you drink your potion.
Farasha turns her holy symbol on the party once they have gathered back together.
heal everyone: 3d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5) = 15
Channels/day 1/4
Sighing deeply at the horrible desecration, Farasha removes the entrails from the basin, and starts casting create water and using a scrap of cloth to clean the place up.
Bollwerk |
Taking off his helmet, so that Farasha can see his smile, he helps the cleric with this gruesome task, silently offering prayers to his goddess.
Fabian Moldonado |
Fabian quickly tries to grab the books that look most important to the defense of Kenbares, and looks at the maps to see if there is any intel there on what the cultists and demons are doing.
(Take 10 on perception for 19, and on all knowledges for 18, except for history (19), religion (20), arcana & planes (22).)
Old Guy GM |
In the Library: The surviving six books are history texts, tomes on geography, and tactical manuals. Each is worth 50 gp. The seventh tome is a manual of war.
In the War Room:This room was once used by the crusaders as a war room, and it’s used now for a similar purpose. Upon the table sits a huge amount of intelligence on Mendevian troop movements, tactics, resources, defenses, and war plans that have been captured throughout Kenabres. Misfiled among the stacks of papers is a single scroll of Restoration.
In the Scrying Chamber: The crusaders once used this basin as a scrying font, once fouled with the entrails of the slain and reanimated crusaders, now cleaned by your efforts.
Bollwerk |
Looking around Bollwerk takes a look on wounds and checks his own potions.
"Continue.. or go back for some rest. But alas, they will be much more prepared the next time!"
Farasha Aeval |
Glancing over the documents in the war room Farasha notes
Bollwerk, would this intelligence help our war effort?
she indicates some of the maps and charts
If we take these and bring them to Irabeth perhaps?
Looking over the rest of the group she nods
I've got more fight left in me yet, and still plenty of healing, let's continue!
Bollwerk |
Looking up the documents Bollwerk nods after examining the documents. "It will. By the lady it will. We have seen first-hand what inside information will do to your defense. No matter what happens, someone has to bring this to do Irabeth. So better, someone else take it. Someone Strong and crafty. Kazul, this seems it fits your bill. I hope you do not mind me saying so.
After Farashas last words he dons his helm again and speaks, only his voice telling that he is smiling. "Well ladies and gentleman, let us continue, it is high time this defilation is cleaned!"
