Fabian Moldonado |
Fabian will cast Detect Magic (which I'm guessing he'd already done once as he and Sjurd were probably the ones identifying the items), and scan around the door to see if there are any obvious magical latches. He's not expecting any, but it's worth checking.
He also wonders if he knows anything about how chapels to Iomedae hide their secret rooms in general. (Take 10 on Knowledges for 20 on Religion and 18 on Engineering.)
Holding up the Ring of Protection +1, he says, "Does anybody else want this? If not, I could use it. It would probably be better worn by somebody who rushes into combat, however."
Bollwerk |
Moving to stand directly to the door Bollwerk places on hand on the door and one on the pommel of radiance. Looking once more at the script on the wall he softly speaks:"Let us inherit thine arms, Iomedae."
Old Guy GM |
The soft light limning the door flashes briefly then goes out. A second later the door slides open, revealing a small cache of arms, obviously stored here for just such a catastrophe.
The small chamber is free of dust. A holy symbol of Iomedae hangs unmolested on the wall above a weapon rack filled with swords, crossbows, and spears. Three wooden dummies wear pristine suits of armor. A shelf holds several leather quivers, each stamped with a golden sun. Two silver shields hang from pegs on the wall.
All told there are: 3 cold iron longswords, 2 cold iron shortswords, 2 heavy crossbows, a composite longbow (+2 Str), a MW cold iron heavy mace, 2 cold iron longspears, 50 cold iron crossbow bolts, 100 cold iron arrows, a +1 longsword, 5 +1 holy arrows, and an arrow of evil outsider slaying, 2 sets of MW chainmail, a +1 breastplate emblazoned with the synbol of Iomedae, a MW heavy steel shield, and a +1 blinding heavy steel shield.
Farasha Aeval |
Praise Iomedae and Desna, they smile on us this day to provide us what we need to cleanse this place of evil!
Farasha bows her head for a moment
I would take the arrows, and if no-one else wants or needs it, the breastplate too. Those who stand at the front of our war should have first pick of the armor though.
Bollwerk |
What is the crest on my shield and the shield found here?
Please take it, we all win if we are better fortified. I am convinced we will find more dangers here! If no one else wants the Longbow, I will add it to my arsenal, but I would advice that someone take the mace, Sjurd, and also, do not let the crossbows waste, we will fight enemys who need the purifieng power of a cold iron bolt through the heart!"
Farasha Aeval |
Quickly donning the breastplate, Farasha grins at the large emblazoned symbol of Iomadae, and looks upwards
Don't get any ideas about my converting oh Light of the Sword, my lady Desna understands need in crisis, I will return this to your temple as soon as we have a safe opportunity
She hefts the quivers and adds them to those already on her back.
Ready when everyone else is...
Fabian Moldonado |
"I think we are better off heading back to where the faithful are currently headquartering themselves," Fabian says. "There are others to guard there, and we want to report back what we found here. Have we cleared out all of the Grey Garrison?"
Bollwerk |
Looking at Sjurd Bollwerk sighs. "I had hopes we could continue for a bit. Can you summon us more help Sjurd? The more we clear, the better. How are Fabian and Farasha? Do you have some more spells to cast? There are still rooms to clear at this level.. at least."
Old Guy GM |
Not on this level at least: the last door on the ground level:
A long table and six chairs have been pushed against the western wall. On the opposite wall, a tapestry depicting a map of Mendev hangs from a silver rod—the tapestry has been slashed several times and splashed with filth. A bedroll sits on the floor, and on the nearby table is an array of alchemical devices and a long wooden sword case wrapped with cords, as if ready for travel.
Farasha Aeval |
Farasha eyes the tapestry and sighs
Is there no end to their depravity? Sjurd, your spell makes better work of cleaning than my summoning of water, could you please do the honors?
She keeps watch as the party explores the room
I have about half my spells and healing left, how is everyone else faring?
Old Guy GM |
The blade in the case is of a fine make, clearly magical, and the design would indicate that it was crusader's weapon. There is a small handwritten note in the case as well:
Lord Staunton,
I believe you will find the enclosed weapon to be a singular and familiar delight, for it once belonged to your old “friend” Irabeth. She sold it to Kandro Nyserian, of all people—I’ve no idea why. Kandro’s been sitting on it for years—still would be, except his home got smashed by an ulkreth. Shame. He managed to save the sword and came here, begging for an escort north to Drezen, doubtless so he could give you the sword and weasel some cash to help him set up a new home. I hope you don’t begrudge a creativity I took—our friend Nyserian serves now as a warm suit for a vermlek as punishment for only revealing the sword now instead of when he first acquired it. I suspect the blade will take to your brother’s touch nicely!
your loyal servant,
Othirubo
Farasha Aeval |
Farasha nocks an arrow to her bow and waits for Kazul to take the lead, then follows the half-orc up the staircase.
Fabian Moldonado |
Looking at the note on the sword, Fabian says, "Interesting. We should return this to Irabeth; even if she gave it away, better it be in her hands given everything that has happened."
Later, Fabian hears the noise of Kazul attacking upstairs. "...I think that means we should follow him!"
Bollwerk |
Moving up the stairs Bollwerk will use first his shields blinding ability.
A shield with this ability flashes with a brilliant light up to twice per day upon command of the wielder. Except for the wielder, anyone within 20 feet must make a successful DC 14 Reflex save or be blinded for 1d4 rounds.
Old Guy GM |
Creeping past the rogues in ambush, Kazul gets the jump on two further down the hall, killing one instantly. Then Bollwerk charges up, his shield flashing a brilliant cyan!
Kazul's Reflex save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11 Two of the rogue half-breeds stagger backward from the blinding effect of the shield. Unfortunately so does Kazul, who just happened to be turning back to face his next target!
ROUND ONE: Fabian, Farasha, Bollwerk, Sjurd, Kazul; then tieflings. All other PCs not on the map are at the bottom of the stairs. Blind characters have a red circle. Tiefling AC 16/13/13
Bollwerk |
OUCH sorryNoticing Kazul blinded Bollwerk prepares to guard his comrade slashing left and right, concentrating on an unblinded opponent.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 271d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
conf: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 131d8 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Farasha Aeval |
Swiftly assessing the limited options available, Farasha decides to bolster the defences of the companion she can get to, moving to Bollwerk's side and brushing her hand across his pauldrons as she whispers a prayer.
Move to F10, cast protection from evil on Bollwerk.
Fabian Moldonado |
Fabian runs up the stairs partway, stopping behind Kazul. Brandishing his staff, he activates his protective wards.
Effect in progress: allies within 10 feet of Fabian get a +2 Deflection bonus to AC. 4 rounds remain.
Kazul the Bear |
"Son of a........" After following that with a litany of curses, the blind half-orc tries not to panic. He remembers the tiefling right in front of him and tries to swing wildly at him but misses due to his blindness.
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 10 + 1 = 30
50% concealment chance: 1d100 ⇒ 8...miss
Attack: 1d20 + 10 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 1 = 14
50% concealment chance: 1d100 ⇒ 43...miss
AC: 18
Old Guy GM |
New map is up, Fabian is 'grayed out' because he's still sort of on the first floor.
The two blind rogues stumble back out of the way as best they can. The others move to attack, shouting warnings. One blocks Bollwerk at the top of the stairs, her shortsword clashing off of the paladin's shield. Two others flank the blind Kazul. One performs a low thrust that somehow misses and lodges in the woodwork of the low wall bordering the stairs! The second scores a solid hit, only narrowly missing a vital organ! 8 hp dmage Kazul.
Farasha Aeval |
Having to aim past Bollwerk with no clear shot, Farasha looses just a single arrow at the enemy at the top of the stairs.
Aim at G12
Mwk comp. longbow DA: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 6 - 4 = 12 -4 for soft cover, if Bollwerk moves before the attack then result would be 16
piercing: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Bollwerk |
Moving forward and trusting his armor and shield to block all attacks Bollwerk moves closer to Kazul ready to block the path.G11
Attacking the Tiefling to his right who seems to be have weathered the blinding flash just to well.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 201d8 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Sjurd |
Sjurd takes a jab at the tiefling at the top of the stairs, not willing to get too close without his eidolon to guard him.
Target G10.
longspear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 231d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d8 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 11d8 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
longspear: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 121d8 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 51d8 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6 critical confirmation
Fabian Moldonado |
Fabian stays in the back. If any space opens up, he will move forward to stay close to his allies, but he won't move to the front lines; that would be madness!
If he gets line of effect on one of the enemies, he will fire off the magic missile wand. Magic Missile Wand damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Effect in progress: allies within 10 feet of Fabian get a +2 Deflection bonus to AC. 3 rounds remain.
Old Guy GM |
Moving forward and trusting his armor and shield to block all attacks Bollwerk moves closer to Kazul ready to block the path.G11
Attacking the Tiefling to his right who seems to be have weathered the blinding flash just to well.
[Dice=Attack]1d20+8; 1d8+8
Not sure how you are doing this. The tiefling is standing in G11.
Old Guy GM |
This missed map update kind of screwed the round up, so I went ahead and extrapolated your actions from that round onto the new map:
Bollwerk cuts down the rogue at the top of the stairs and steps into the space just cleared G11. Close behind, Farasha follows and shoots the blind rogue in the hall, piercing his side H10. Sjurd advances upwards as well, stabbing another tiefling in the shoulder G9.
The two blind rogues H10, G14 stagger backwards, clawing at their eyes. The two flanking Kazul however, take full advantage of the deadly half-orc's blindness. One strikes him in the kidney with her shortsword. -9 hp Kazul
From down the hall, there is a shout, and two cultists step out into the hall brandishing their glaives.
OK should be all set. ROUND THREE: PCs; rogues and cultists.
Farasha Aeval |
With no hesitation, Farasha looses two more arrows, this time aiming at the tiefling flanking Kazul
Mwk comp. longbow DA RS: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6
piercing: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12
Mwk comp. longbow DA RS: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7
piercing: 1d8 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 = 11
Both arrows skitter harmlessly across the floor, eliciting a string of curse words from the cleric's lips.
