Zokon had tried to explain the clan system and the differences, but to her, it just proved the whole species was unreliable, disorganized, and dangerous.
Well, obviously Alia had fallen asleep, or tranced out, or whatever elves do because kobolds are like little versions of Chelaxians (Lawful Evil). Speciesist, they cooperate and will do whatever it takes to survive and continue on as a race (the Best Race!), up to and including mass self-sacrifice. In that regard they don't particularly like half-elves who seem to be cheating by taking the best aspects of two races that are constantly showing them up and merging them into one, but...
Mikmek, nearly out on his feet, nods and clambers up onto the pony's back. He makes himself a comfortable-enough spot among the supplies, and spins about in the saddle thrice before settling in it.
The party can spend half a day exploring their current map hex and finish tomorrow or simply press on up to the edge of the forest putting you that much closer to the kobolds' mine. At the party's current speed, under good weather it takes about 6 hours to cross a forested or hilly hex, and a full day to explore and map it.
Zokon Santyev |
Finish exploring this hex please then goto Kobolds
Alia of the Blade |
Neither, she listened well, Lawful Evil is simply despicable to her. Plus, after Numalar has set her on the path of Corruption that leads to the dark side of the Force, she has become more casual about her species-ism.
I concur with Zokon, finish the Hex, then move on.
RPGGGM |
The day is windy and grey until mid afternoon and eve when the clouds part and afford the party a bit of blue sky and sun. Mikmek swaddles his head in someone's winter cloak against the sunlight.
Alia's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Celyne's Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Numalar's Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Poshment's Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Zokon's Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
That evening as the party is looking for a place to make camp. Alia and Zokon both spot a lone someone in and among the rough hills ahead about a half mile or so away.
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon puts his hand up as a motion of attention and stop then says
"I see a lone figure half a mile away.. on the hill.. shall I go and say hello?"
Zokon Santyev |
"Ok lets go.. "
Zokon will ride ahead and go check out the lone figure
Scarlet Scarab |
"Scarlet Scarab. Zokon. We're explorers."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
"So. Your name and business? Besides pointing bows at strangers."
Zokon Santyev |
"Yes, we mean no harm, notice that we do not have drawn weapons, possibly foolishly, I may just have my bow ready next time."
Diplomacy Aid Scarlet: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (16) + 0 = 16
Alia of the Blade |
"So far, I see no others. Still only the one. Unusual.", Alia explains to the others as they watch from quite a bit away, stepping back into cover.
Anza, the Jay |
"Scarlet Scarab. Zokon. We're explorers."
"So. Your name and business? Besides pointing bows at strangers."
"Anza!" She shouts back in the gravely voice of a lifelong smoker, or a middle-aged tavern wench.
"Yes, we mean no harm, notice that we do not have drawn weapons, possibly foolishly, I may just have my bow ready next time."
"Yeah that's just what bushwhackers would say before their buddies come around and shoot them in the back. So you can just keep standing where you are and yer yap shut."
"Splorin'? What's to explore? Nuthin' but hills, and monsters out this far. Nobody comes out this far unless they're up to something."
Zokon Santyev |
"Ok.. I think i am just going to get my bow out as you seem crazy or dangerous."
Zokon reaches for his bow and readies an arrow not pointing it at anyone
"We were sent by Brevoy to explore and map this region."
Scarlet Scarab |
"So Anza, what are you up to then? Nothin' out here but hills and monsters, right?" Scarlet keeps her hands at her side. "I mean come on, if we wanted to ambush you why would we walk up to you in the open like this?"
Anza, the Jay |
"Ok.. I think i am just going to get my bow out as you seem crazy or dangerous."
Zokon reaches for his bow....
At this point she interrupts and says: "Uh uh. Keep yer hands out in front were I can see 'em." She draws a bead on him.
Lemme know if you want to continue.
"So Anza, what are you up to then? Nothin' out here but hills and monsters, right?" Scarlet keeps her hands at her side. "I mean come on, if we wanted to ambush you why would we walk up to you in the open like this?"
"Maybe I'm a monster! Ever think of that? Ha-hah! I'm a scout and a guide and semi-professional hermit. So iffin anyone belongs out here it's me! Right now I'm on the hunt for a fat feller by the name o' ah, I'm lousy with names, um, It'll come. funny foreign name. Guy was a porter. His bosses up and left him when they saw what they took fer bandits. I woulda done the same the way these brigands is in these parts. But now someone's paying me to go find the lost city lamb.... Planchet! That's the name. Or maybe it's Plan-shey. Durn foreign pernunciations. Anyway, you seen 'im? Fat foreign city slicker? I figger he's probably dead by now, kilt by the bandits, or the weather, but there's more coin in it fer me if I can bring the cream-puff back in one piece. Gods, that's more than I've talked in two years!"
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon stops when she beads on him, he is ready to jump if she looks like she's going to fire
He does use studied target on her
"Planchet.. name sounds familiar..Scarlet you have any idea."
Scarlet Scarab |
Scarlet has a heartly laugh. "Zokon, don't worry about it. When you live alone it's hard to tell friend from foe. Besides you gotta practice communication every once in a while."
Scarlet instinctively looks at her kukri and remembers slitting the throat of a man named Planchet. No point in hiding this.
"Now Planchet... yeah, he's dead. Joined a group of bandits working for the Stag Lord. It looked like it was his first day, or maybe he was in over his head. Working for someone named Fat Norry?"
"We bumped into them while explorin'. They didn't like our tone so they started attacking us. Some of them tried to run back to the camp to warn everyone, so we had to silence them, quick. If we knew there was a reward..."
"Anyway, I can tell you roughly where we buried them, but if you're worried about us being brigands, you don't want to get next to that camp."
Scarlet's perfectly willing to point out where the bodies were buried on Anzu's map.
Anza, the Jay |
".... Well tha's too bad. Though you saved me a long hike into bandit territory. Sorry to hear though. The guy probably was offered the opportunity to join or die. I can't see a cowardly city-slicker like this fella fallin' in with this lot, 'cept to buy time to escape. Well, guess I'll be headin' back then. Thanks."
Scarlet Scarab |
"No problem, Anza. Good luck out there." She gives Anza a nod and begins to return to the group.
Numalar Auritonius |
Numalar eyes the group as they return.
"Everything all right?"
Probably would have come along for the ride but I wasn't around this weekend so looks like I missed it.
Alia of the Blade |
"Headhunters, hu?", Alia comments after the forward party explained what took place.
"I guess that means if we become annoying enough to somebody with sufficient coin, say, a hypothetic bandit king, those kind of people may go after us, too-"
Once we regain control of Telvurin, we'll need to purge all that filth into the cesspits bordering it that call themselves nations.
RPGGGM |
That night at camp....
I'll push us a long later tonight.
RPGGGM |
Camp passes without incident. Mikmek exhausted, falls asleep.
The next day is much like the last temperate and blustery with intermittent clouds.
By midday the party is nearly finished with its survey saving the mysterious standing stones for last.
Zokon Santyev |
We approach the standing stones warily, I have my bow out this time.
RPGGGM |
Celyne: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Numalar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Scarlet: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16
Zokon: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Zokon proceeds ahead cautiously.
Mikmek and Naleksa seem to drift further back.
Scarlet Scarab |
Scarlet keeps her swords drawn. "So, anyone see something different?"
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
RPGGGM |
Intelligence (memory) check as Scarlet points out the feeling something seems different this time around.
Map updated.
Alia of the Blade |
Int: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
"Yeah. No body around this time. Everything else seems identical", Alia counts the number of stones before shrugging and falling in line behind Zokon.
And here's the cue for checking if the emanations are still in place if Num rolls decently on his Int...
Zokon Santyev |
int check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
RPGGGM |
Sorry, my connection to the West Coast suddenly went down in the middle of posting.
And... There is a body!
A beautiful fey woman, in a long pale silk gown lies atop the worn stone altar.
Map updated.
Alia of the Blade |
"I was kidding, of course. I meant the body is clearly female this time around."
Wee, way to make me seem blind, connection to the west coast-
Numalar Auritonius |
A beautiful fey woman, in a long pale silk gown lies atop the worn stone altar.
GGGM: Alive or dead? If alive, conscious? And by "fey" do you mean the creature type or just description?
INT: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
"Wait... one of these stones wasn't here last time." Numalar looks at it... are there any signs it was recently installed?
perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
He then makes a few passes with his fingers and his eyes turn gold. He looks again, checking for magical auras.
Casting detect magic.
spellcraft/knowledge (arcana): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Alia of the Blade |
Seriously, more stones, too? Great, I note the absence of a body and the amount of stones being identical, and there is a body and different number of stones? Oh well, I did roll a 1...
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon will check out the fey and see if she is alive?
RPGGGM |
RPGGGM wrote:A beautiful fey woman, in a long pale silk gown lies atop the worn stone altar.GGGM: Alive or dead? If alive, conscious? And by "fey" do you mean the creature type or just description?
Numalar is not close enough to determine that.
"Wait... one of these stones wasn't here last time." Numalar looks at it... are there any signs it was recently installed?
There are no signs of any scraping or digging or foot prints beyond those of native animals.
He then makes a few passes with his fingers and his eyes turn gold. He looks again, checking for magical auras.
The same moderate (evocation) aura from before (no roll needed), and from the woman a strong nebulous aura that suffuses her entire body.
RPGGGM |
Zokon will check out the fey and see if she is alive?
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
She's very pale, but breathing.
Scarlet Scarab |
Scarlet sheathes her weapons and runs up to the creature.
Knowledge(Nature): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"I have no idea what this is but... Can we help 'er?"
Zokon Santyev |
"She's alive.. maybe preserved by this area... says Zokon as he looks down at the woman.
Celyne |
"Maybe dead bodies here turn into new stones in time..." Celyne shrugs, not really having any other ideas... She walks over to the woman and tries to determine her state...
heal check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13

She is... non-responsive.
RPGGGM |
Yep, just layin' there.
Celyne |
"SO now what? I could apply some healing magic and see if that wakes her up... But she looks more like she's asleep than wounded."
Celyne |
Celyne shrugs and casts cure light on her...

Suddenly the woman's hands clutch at Celyne. Her eyes fly open. They're frantic, and unfocused. She grabs Celyne and screams!

Numalar's eyes go wide as the woman seemingly springs to life. He quickly fumbles for his symbol and pulls it out. He points his symbol at the woman and shouts, "reH!"
Casting daze (Will DC 15) on the woman. Don't want to hurt her just yet.
RPGGGM |
The additional dazing seems to wash off of her.
The woman blinks, finally seeing Celyne. "Man re tye!? Vere am ni!? NIMEAR- ME!"
grapple (seated, in control): 1d20 + 6 - 4 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 6 - 4 + 5 = 8
Her hands slip from Celyne, but she looks even scarier now.

Totally forgot I can speak Sylvan! :) BTW, what language are you using for Sylvan?
"Sídh! Hi na-i Kamelands. Mín will ú-negr-cin. Nin est-na- Numalar. Ha na-cín est-?"
