A mite staggers out of the shadows in the opposite tunnel. A dart falls from its little blue hand. It lurches, and twirls, and puts the back of its hand to its huge forehead gibbering something until it finally falls in the chasm with a high-pitched wail that ends very suddenly.

A chorus of giggles erupt from the cave mouth.

Zokon double moves toward Numalar as the invisible force with Scarlet's voice takes Alia from him. He doesn't notice anymore booby-trapped roots from the edge of the pit.

Conditions normal light within 30 feet of Zokon's sunrod, with dim light out twice as far, otherwise darkness.

Medium creatures are squeezed for space. Squeeze Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares, and while squeezed in a narrow space, you take a –4 penalty on attack rolls, and a –4 penalty to AC.

It's ok, was the only thing I could think up at that moment in time. Hmm...what to do...

Posh cries out in surprise at the falling elf that Zokon manages to catch before he got the chance to. "Th-Thanks, Zokon...." he trails off and thinks hard about what he could possibly do in this situation. He decides to cast one of his spell-like abilities, ghost sound to see if he can either scare or attract the mites downwards. Many of you hear somekind of inhuman scream up above the shaft Posh is still waiting under.

That's all I can think up at the moment. Used all my bardic performances earlier and I do have another vanish spell if needed.

DC 16 will save to disbelieve:

The sound is clearly manufactured and not dangerous.

Posh looks to Scarlet with a smile. "I can stay here and look after her, then use another vanish on you and Zokon if you two want to get up there and cut them down without being attacked first?" he asked curiously, still having a few charges left and confident the two of them would get up there without triggering attacks whilst invisible, giving a drop on the mites in question.

Numalar sees the Mite collapse with a crossbow bolt in him.

"QaQ bach, mikmek!"

As Mikmek starts yapping, Numalar looks around, trying to see what he is talking about.

He calls over to Zokon. "The kobold says not to touch that root there that looks like a deer antler - it's another trap. The ones to the right of that should be okay."

GGGM: I'm next to the edge of the other side so I am probably past the downward shaped "hump." Can I see further on the map now? Can I see any mites? If I don't throw my firework this round it is just wasted.

One sided die? Simply paint it on the table. One-dimensional, and already showing the result. Easy as that. There's no need to actually roll, you can just point at it and smile at your players.

With a coughing fit Alia wakes up, trying to sit up for a moment, before wrecking pain forces her back down. With Celyne softly chanting in Elven as she channels more healing magic into her, and Scarlets worried face above her, Alia smiles a pained smile:"I thought I was a goner..."

Yes.

Numalar lets fly with another firework, which zig-zags towards the lead mite and bursts is a flare of colored dragons.

Damage Reflex DC 16 half damage and not dazzled: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

"There's two more mites up this way!" Numalar calls back to the others.

I think that's two move actions so that's probably all I can do this round.

Zokon slays the second with a dart of his own while the little beast was pointing and oooing at its friend's spectacular death.

Celyne, sets to work upon Alia's wounds. When her own innate magic seems not up to the task she draws a wand.

With no ready targets the kobold reloads and waits.

The enemy seems to do so as well.

Scarlet lowers Alia gently, then draws her longbow. "Well, I'm her bodyguard. Time to earn my pay!"

Posh looks around, feeling a mix of feelings and thoughts at the situation, but looks over to Numalar who appears to have crossed the ravine and smirks.
"I'm coming with you! I doubt those blue meanies will let us pass." he moves as quick as he can to the ledge, looking at the roots before he starts to climb, but turns back to Scarlet "Keep them safe, it looks like we're going to be heroes!" he's laughing, feeling far more chipper than before.

I'm guessing double move to get to where he is now so he has no movement left?

J/K...but you will come to love the stuff I'll craft for you in terms of weaponry - or, you know, I could have promised you something from the ancient elven ruin I was looking for...a magical weapon/armor, perhaps...surely a good draw for a first-level mercenary, and a good chance for a banked item to be withdrawn - then again, at Level 5 I can craft them, so maybe I promised you something less craftable you can withdraw there ;)

Numalar and Zokon reach the far ledge, a cramped scree-covered embankment that leads up to the largest room you have yet seen. Mites and their darts come lunging out of the dark at them!

The first mite you see cuts a dashing figure leaping upon the room's table from the ceiling with her oddly pointy blade. Is it an epee perhaps? In her off-hand however she wields a long dart which she aims at Zokon's heart.

Laia (dk blue) dart v Zokon (v climbing/squeezed): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 hit!

Two other mites are with her. One steps from the shadows with knife!

green dagger v Zokon (v climbing/squeezed): 1d20 ⇒ 8 damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1 miss!

The other whips a dart Numalar!

yellow dart v Numalar (point blank, v climbing): 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 3 + 1 = 14 damage: 1d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3 hit!

And at last a screaming harridan mite comes rushing at Numalar with an improvised morningstar in one hand and a sharp knife in the other!

Stracle (red) morningstar v Numalar (charge! v climbing): 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 + 2 = 17 damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 hit!

Numalar must make 2 climb checks vs DC 5 to hang on to the wall.

Zokon must make 1 climb check vs DC 5 to hang on to the wall.

Behind there sits upon a horrible steed a mite with an unsightly scattering of purple pimples across his homely face. In his hand he holds a homemade, three-pronged polearm. His mount is even more striking. It is a stout, six-legged, spider-like steed the size of a pony. The steed and rider stand ready to pounce!

Currently, only Numalar or Zokon can see the beast to attempt the knowledge check to recognize the bug.

knowledge (nature) DC 18+:
The creature is a monstrous tick! (pic) Ticks are blood-sucking vermin!

Expert grapplers, once they latch on to a target they can draw blood weakening their prey

Numalar whispers to Zokon: "Try to get them to bunch up. You know what I mean."

GGGM: Do the mites that just attacked get to attack again before I have another action? Or do they go on a different initiative step than the mites at the top of the shaft?

They were hiding in the dark with readied actions (hence they only had standard actions and 5-foot moves). Timing-wise the two that attacked you go just as you reach the end of your move. Likewise the two that attacked Zokon did so just as he finishes his move. Like below.

Also, I need a couple of climb checks for sustaining damage while climbing.

Conditions normal light within 30 feet of Zokon's sunrod, with dim light out twice as far, otherwise darkness.

Medium creatures are squeezed for space. Squeeze Each move into or through a narrow space counts as if it were 2 squares, and while squeezed in a narrow space, you take a –4 penalty on attack rolls, and a –4 penalty to AC. Note The room with the table in it is itself large enough to accommodate Medium-sized characters (and bugs).

Okay, I'm getting a bit mixed up now.

Here is Zokon's round 5 post. My round 4 action is just before that.

HERE is your post summarizing everyone's round 4 action and Zokon's round 5 action. Mites are readying/delaying.

Here is Numalar's Round 5 post.

You had a post after my action but nothing much happened in that one.

Zokon posted after that but didn't declare any actions.

Here is Your post responding to my round 5 action and what must be Zokon's round 6 action (as you have already responded to his round 5 action). Since Zokon didn't actually post a round 6 action I assume he is being botted here. Looks like he made a move action but not a standard action.

So: if the mites were using readied actions then their actions would resolve before my action and Zokon's action, and we would still be hanging above the chasm. We would then be able to complete (and possibly change) our actions since they had been interrupted. If someone readies an action then they get to take their action before yours, but you get to go afterwards, so the readier doesn't get two actions in a row.

I am guessing you don't want us to re-do our actions. In which case the mites delayed until we had made it out of the chasm and acted afterwards, which makes more sense (or alternately their readied actions tripped after our actions were complete in which case there is mechanically no difference to delaying).

If that is so then our actions are already complete, but the mites' initiative now comes after ours. For the ones that Attacked Zokon (Laia and Green), this doesn't change their initiative, but Zokon AND Laia and Green will have already acted in round 6. The ones that attacked Numalar (Yellow and Stracle) would now have an initiative after Numalar.

If what you intended was to finish Zokon's round 5 action and have the mites who delayed act after that, then they would have been visible before my action started. In which case I would not have moved forwards, but rather would have fired off the next bolt of snapdragon fireworks, because targets would have been visible (my post included conditions). I would be still hanging over the chasm, so I would have had cover against yellow's dart and if Stracle went after me while I am still in the chasm she would have provoked an AoO from Zokon.

The most logical thing if Zokon has not yet acted in round 6 would be to say that all 4 of the mites delayed until after Numalar's action (since this matches the order of things as they appear in the thread) and also allows Zokon to take his round 6 action.

Does that make sense? Or am I missing something?

You know what, when I see the charging mite with a morning star I think I will use draconic defense to negate that damage (which should put me at 3 damage and 1 spell remaining). 7 damage is a lot for me to handle.

Readied Action stuff:
@Readied Actions: Actually, if they are done smart, they DO get two actions in a row. You specify a trigger for the ready-action. In this case, someone being about to cross the chasm using roots...they do their action WHILE it's your turn, inmediately before the action that triggered it.(compare readying an attack in case someone attacks you...you would attack as they try to strike you, if you kill them, the triggering attack is actually cancelled.) - but your new initiative score is before the creature who triggered it. That means if you Ready an action such as trying to move out of cover and attack on a condition, you get to do that attack...then the target gets to finish their turn(in this case, most likely finish climbing if you can, but then alter your remaining action if you so choose), and then you will have your next turn before the target gets another. That said, I am really sleepy and it's middle of the night, so maybe I just misread something there...still, my 2 cents.

Except that timing-wise the dart hits first (so Stracle's buddy can avoid a penalty to hit), and I thought you mentioned somewhere, and I may be mistaken, that Numalar normally uses it on the first hit in a round.

I wasn't planning on using at all at this point. I've already been hit by a dart and know they don't do that much damage. I'm also no longer suspended above a 20-foot chasm. And I'm low on spells so I don't think I would bother. But a mite berzerker, well, that could indeed scare me.

If you want to rule that I would have to use it on the dart rather than the melee attack then I can live with it.

As an aside: Alia at -23, healed for 2 more, followed by Alia at -25, healed for 2 more...is Celyne using an inflict-Wand accidentaly? Also, I got previously healed from -25, for 4 more, so that -23 is off to begin with. I should be at -25+4+2+2=>-17, or 6/23 HP, and conscious for all 3 rounds already, rather than KO'd.
