Celyne didn't have to go down the rabbit hole. She standing next to Numalar.
Numalar moves to help the last kobold. The free kobold tenses.
Upon inspection, the last kobold is apparently dead.
I'm going to end combat at this point if only for a bit.
Celyne |
Celyne would have aided, but in this case, it wasn't apparently necessary.
"I'm sorry we weren't fast enough to save your friends, but we are here to recover that which your tribe has lost... we are here to help you. The mites will either relinquish what was taken willingly or by force... and knowing my companions, the results will be the same, regardless... we will get what we came for. Will you join us while we do this thing?"
She speaks to the kobold in draconic as she heals his wounds more.
clw: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

after two attempts, she will assess his condition before continuing.
Mikmek, Sootscale Hero |
Disheartened by the loss of his comrades in arms, the kobold is hesitant to let Celyne touch him with her wand. Ultimately he relents. Once healed he yaps, considers for a moment, and yaps some more seemingly resolved to some course of action.
He looks about for a moment. Finding a dead mite's knife, he picks it up.
Alia of the Blade |
Alia lands on the bottom of the Ravine. Rolling with the fall to lessen the impact, she ends prone, on her back. A tiny parasol floats down, even as the Centipede stops clinging to the wall, and it's massive body comes rushing downward.
In a split moment decision, Alia rolls to the side of the Ravine, pressing into the corner, and avoiding the worst of it. Struggling free, she looks up to see Scarlets face, and a rope being lowered.
Good, she's fine!
"Good, you're fine!", she states, emotional for a reason she can't quite pin-point.
Looking around at the quite limited dimension of the Ravine, she adds:"Give me a second to take a look down here, I'll come back up in a moment!"

When Numalar sees Mikmek pick up the knife, he pulls out his crossbow and quiver and offers them to Mikmek.
"chay' crossbow lo' DaSov'a'? 'oH nge'."
"Your brother soot scales promised us a good trade if we could
get old sharp tooth back for them.
"My name is Numalar.
"I am sorry about your friends. But they died with honor. When
the quest is done we can help you bury them.
"Do you know how to use this crossbow? Take it."
Numalar turns to the rest of the party.
"Apparently he is looking for the same statue that we are. He is willing to come with us."
Scarlet Scarab |
"Good. Tell him if he growls like that to you or Posh again I'll burn him to a crisp."
Scarlet waits while Alia searches the chasm.
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon helps the ladies get up out of the ravine and then waits til they are ready to go again...
He'll cross the ravine climbing across

"Good. Tell him if he growls like that to you or Posh again I'll burn him to a crisp."
"I can forgive him some mistrust. Kobolds normally consider gnomes to be bitter enemies. But perhaps we can show him that this doesn't need to be the case."
Numalar looks at the crossing over the chasm.
Can we take 10 to cross? My take 10 for climbing nets me an 8.
"Do we have a rope? It would seem sensible to avoid the risk of falling."
RPGGGM |
Alia finds a locked brass, and wood chest in the ravine.
Can we take 10 to cross? My take 10 for climbing nets me an 8.
You can so long as nothing distracts you, like say someone laughing maniacally and throwing darts at you.
Zokon looks ready to cross.
Zokon Santyev |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
I don't laugh maniacally...
Zokon patietly waits for with the rope and helps get Alia, Scarlet and booty up.
Poshment Underhill |
Posh nods as he looks towards the Kobold and nods, seeming to understand the lonelyness. Posh smiles to the group
"Well, that was fun! We seem to have made a new friend too!" he states partially with sarcasm, but appears to have no real hatred towards the Kobold. "Do you think that's all of them?"
He turns to the mite and raises an eyebrow
Sooooo hard not to metagame here, just going to keep the opinions to myself.
Scarlet Scarab |
"Nah, there are probably more. I almost got torn apart by a big centipede though, so I'll take it a bit slow." Scarlet waits for Alia to finish inspecting whatever's down there.
Numalar Auritonius |
"You can't see them because the ceiling dips low over the chasm, but can hear them giggling over there. There's still enough of them to be annoying."
Zokon Santyev |
Zokon now crosses over with and then draws his trusty mace?
RPGGGM |
Zokon now crosses over with and then draws his trusty mace?
Currently Zokon is not squeezed (just dangling from the ceiling) however, the cave entrance you are heading for is dug at a steep incline, meaning that Zokon will have to continue climbing once he gets back to solid ground (until he clears the wavy contour lines).

The kobold shakes his head, and whines back nervously. He's also somewhat taken aback by the fact that "wicked garden folk" speak the sacrosanct language of Dragon-kind.
Alia of the Blade |
Alia hauls up the chest using the rope supplied, and places it on the ground safely away from the slope: "Found something!", she states, casually, hoping to elude any questions why she would risk her own life jumping into an ravine to safe her bodyguard. Technically, it should be the exact opposite...but Scarlet was a Friend more than anything.
Should we take a look before proceeding inside? Otherwise we may want to bring this up to Naleksa...AND tell her to go hide somewhere. If these smurfs have a second or third exit and we flush them out, we don't want them to murder our animals and take Posh's bed-warmer hostage(nor the other way round - considering they are mites)
RPGGGM |
We will assume that the impetuous Zokon has yet to make his jungle gym crossing until Alia and her steamer trunk is out of the ravine, as that might take a minute or two. The chest weighs about 25 lbs. (11.34 kg).
That's a new look for Alia.... I never took her for the sort that would be anyone's beard though. Or is that the lead mite in disguise? Papa Mite--the voodoo witchdoctor mite!
Scarlet Scarab |
"Alright, let's haul this up, and then you." Scarlet brings up the chest, then drops drops the rope again for Alia.
Numalar Auritonius |
"Funny that a giant centipede would keep its belongings in a chest."
Numalar looks over the chest, in case there might be traps or other threats.

I will also use detect magic and look at it that way.

Alia of the Blade |
"I am not really sure the chest belongs to the centipedes. Matter of fact, I'm not sure it belongs to anybody. If I was to guess, I think one of the mites threw it at the Centipede as a means of feeding it, then got eaten to the applause of the others.", Alia takes a look at the tiny parasol and remembers the scene when she stabbed that first mite:"Yeah, sounds about right - shall we take a look?"
RPGGGM |
It appears to be locked.
Alia of the Blade |
Bummer. How elaborate is the lock? Could we use some directed splashes of gnomish acid to destroy the lock without impacting the contents?
RPGGGM |
The lock is built-in. Depending on the contents, it might be possible to break the box, and not the contents--but it's risky. Oh look, the centipede collected priceless Fabergé Eggs!
Scarlet Scarab |
"Looks like we'll need a locksmith to get into that." Scarlet looks at the chest.
Appraise: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
"Uhh...looks like...um. Pretty good, I guess. Let's hold onto it for later? Or just leave it here if it's too bulky."
She shrugs and looks at the gap. "So, we crossing this? We got mites to smash and statues to find!"

"If we wanted to break it open, we could swing from low so we would hit an upper part of the chest, try and smash a part that is least likely and able to have something precious in it due to gravity."

Zokon Santyev |
"Oh thankyou Celyne, that is much better, we shall have to get another one of those wands whenever we can, we seem to go through them quickly"
Zokon revels in the not feeling sore anywhere
Alia of the Blade |
"Aye, or we show the chest to Naleksa later. I have a feeling she may be able to help. I doubt whatever is inside would survive being in a place like this if it's not sturdy enough to at least have survived the fall down into the ravine...but one never knows.", Alia considers, then listens for any more Mites.
The giggling seemed to have fallen silent. And Alia knew that there was a saying among humans that it was a bad sign if children suddenly went silent during play, most likely doing something they were very much not supposed to do.
Now, these were Mites, not children, but it still seemed like a bad omen not to hear them.
Scarlet Scarab |
Scarlet starts to say something but then falls silent as Celyne heals her wounds. The last time I rushed ahead a centipede almost bit me in half. Take your medicine.
"Thanks. I'll try not to get bit again." She dusts off some of the grime. "Okay, I'll bring this chest back up to the entrance, tell Naleksa to look out for mites, then return here so we can finally cross this ravine. Sounds like a plan?"
If no one protests, Scarlet grabs the chest, ducks, and moves back toward the entrance.

If that's the plan, it takes a few minutes to pull off given the cramped space and the need for rope to haul it up certain holes and inclines. With two it's quicker, but it still takes time. I'll leave Zokon hanging (metaphorically) until as a group you decide, unless the Z-Man just wants go for it, and climb across before people not lugging the chest tackle him!
Alia of the Blade |
I'll help haul it up. As said, I think we should tell Naleksa to hide a little bit away with the other animals. Won't do if they swarm out of another exit, stirred up by us, then get a hold of them.

Scarlet, and Alia haul the heavy chest out of the mite lair and carry it back to Naleksa and the party's small menagerie.

At the mention of Chests and Naleksa Posh can't help, but be a little juvenile at this moment.

Maybe some rocks, or pebbles! Maybe we'll find another vase! Scarlet seems giddy, and chuckles to herself.
"Oh, and pull back a bit. We found some mites inside, we're flushing them out right now. It would be terrible if they saw you while fleeing!" With that, Scarlet dives right back into the hole.
