With a smile at Ravel
So what do we have for info on that prison.

"Honestly, while you check out what the board can do, I'll head back to the temple to speak with Father Grimburrow for a bit. There may be some detail about the prisoners that were held there. It takes a powerful will or truly vile soul to manifest undeath without the aid of dark magic." Ingrid says standing up. "I'd rather have an idea of who we'll be facing."
DM Twilight |
"My father would have agreed completely with Ingrid. It's best to know everything that you can about what you're going into before you go." Kendra says.
And because I missed it earlier, when Ake pats Kendra comfortingly, Kendra wraps an arm around Ake's shoulder and pulls her near in an embrace. Whispering quietly, "Thank you, dear Ake."

Still standing, Ioann takes a few steps around trying to contain his frustration.
More reading and losing time... gah!
After some more time paing around, the man takes his sit back and starts listening to the conversation and decides to add his own comment.
"Yes, professor Lorrimor seem to think that the temple would hold the names of the prisonners who had just arrived." he opens the journal on the page of interest and passes it to Ingrid. "Now, time for you and me to go and research these people..."
Leaving might help me to avoid all these silly conversations about spirit boards...
Ioann places the purple book back in the chest and locks it. He then leaves for his room in order to discover his gift. Once he comes down, he his wearing a chain shirt for which he thanks Kendra.
"... I will take good care of it and remember it comes from your father. Paladin, ready to go?" he says while putting own his jacket over his new armor.

Ingrid looks at Ioann, nodding in thanks as he hands her the book.
Of all the group he would be the least pleasant company to have going back to the temple, likely to say something rude or irreverent.
Being of noble birth herself she knew the tone of noble arrogance that slipped into his speech when he started telling people what to do, and managed to resist rolling her eyes at his imperiousness. If Kendra saw good in him, then it was in there somewhere. She'd always had a gift for knowing who to believe in.
As she stands he once again exerts his particular "charm" not even bothering to use her name.
"Yes IOANN. I am ready. Please remember we will be visiting a temple and try to show at least a vague semblance of respect while we're there."
Terrance Foehammer |
Oh this looks interesting Terrance comments as he comes near the board that Ake and Ravel are looking at.

SHE'S GONNA EAT ME!!! No, no, Kendra is kind, is not bad, Ake is bad, Kendra good, she is Not gonna eat me!

Still around, you just failed your Perception against my Stealth: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
The spirit planchette is a useful little item. It allows one to communicate with the dead and ask questions of them.
This one is brass, there are other more powerful ones of cold iron or silver.
This on should allow us to ask one question per day.
They will respond with a yes, no, or maybe...possibly a single word.
A word of caution, the dead dislike being troubled and may rattle the minds of the weak willed.
They can also lie, just like the living, nothing forces them to tell a truth.
Can I learnz to summon demonz to? Pretty please?
Ravel Sigrún |
"Then let us see what we can learn from beyond the veil. Gather around all who wish to join in, though any who are uncomfortable need not participate... one question, that might be a lie, we should be cautious but I must admit curiosity has the better of me." Ravel thinks for a moment. "I have a question in mind. Gather near me, any who wish to seek answers." Laying out the board, Ravel places her hands lightly on the planchette, and begins to concentrate.
Talked to Twi and she told me to go ahead and roll the attunement.
Attuning Phase: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Ravel breathes slowly, eyes closed as she concentrates, those who wish to not be involved in the witchcraft can stand away from the table. and finally asks, "What awaits in Harrowstone?"
Will Save: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 2 = 6

By Torags beard, Ravel what is wrong
Terrance makes an effort to grab and restrain Ravel.
unarmed grab: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Oh a critical grab. :)
Terrance Foehammer |
Ravel, what is wrong, first all was calm, and then you scratched up Ake ?
When I see her coming out of the hissing and snarling fit, I slowly let go of her, ready to regrab if necessary.

NO, no, no it was not her fault, not really Ravel, not her fault, not burn all the things..
Ravel Sigrún |
Ravel's mismatched eyes come back into focus. "What... what happened?!" Looking down at the bloody scratches on Ake, Ravel gasps, tears forming. "Oh Ake, I am so sorry! I couldn't... it wasn't me." Crying, Ravel looks at the board in front of her. That was not what I was expecting, so many voices, all of them so angry... Ake, can you forgive me?"
Orin Gabor |
"Ravel! Are you okay?!" Orin jumps at seeing the witch attack and as he sees the tears forming, he goes over and gently hugs her. "It's... It's fine, Ravel. Take slow breaths." Looking at the spirit planchette, he sneers at it. "Someone get that thing out of here before it hurts anyone else."

"Oh dear, oh dear. Ake, stay still darling. I'll get some antiseptic and bandages." Kendra says as she leaves the room. She returns a bit later with a small basket containing bandages and the like. She sets the basket down on the table and picks up a clear bottle containing a green liquid.
"Let's see, was this the one father used to clean with?" She opens the bottle of green liquid and sniffs it before shaking her head rapidly and recapping it, her face a little green itself after the fact. It is evident that she is talking to no one in particular, probably just herself. "No, no that wasn't it definitely. I remember that one, definitely not the one." She opens two more bottles, sniffing each before she finds the one that she wants. "I suppose now that Father's gone, there isn't anything stopping me from giving these all proper new labels."
Finally, she lays out some clean bandages before picking out a small clean cloth and wetting it with the amber liquid. "Ake, dear, let me see your scratches. This will clean them out and numb them a little, though it might sting at first."

By Torag, cleanse the hurt

Really RNG, almost the minimum healing, I guess 1 nights rest won't hurt ake. :)
Orin Gabor |
Snickering ever so slightly, Orin looks to Terrance and smiles warmly. "Well, Torag is smiling on us truly." Looking towards lady Lorrimor, he watches as they patch up Ake some.
"Perhaps I should look into studying some healing as well..."

Oh sure, laugh at Torag Terrance looks with a frown. But I will not stop you if you wish to learn how to heal.
Torag, this goblin has and is attempting redemption
Yea, Torag was probably upset over me attempting to heal Ake, thus the almost minimal healing. should have tried for number 3, and if that came up 1, then yes, he doesn't like ake. :)
Ravel Sigrún |
Ravel looks around, warily gazing at the spirit board. She tries to calm Narcissa as she tries to also calm herself. "I believe we have learned all from the other side that we need to today... while fair Ingrid and our reserved friend Ioann go to the temple, perhaps we can see what else we can learn here from the Professor's collection?" She looks at the poor bandaged goblin. "Thank you, Kendra. Thank you, Terrance. Ake, are you feeling okay?"

He snaps out of it when Ravel mentions researching in the library. "What? Oh. Reading. Right. We should do that," he says absentmindedly.
Terrance Foehammer |
It's possible that the professor, hid something in the library. Lady Kendra, do you mind if we check ?
DM Twilight |
Kendra says, "Of course not, you're welcome to use the library and anything else in this house."
Grimburrow arrives led by the second acolyte. "Ingrid, dear, back so soon? And Ioann, wasn't it?"

Still mildly annoyed, Ake attempts to say something about it still being a scratch, but...
I felt less ouchy yesterday, but after Master Foehammer and Miss Kendra's ministrations, I believe I will be fine. I believe some research is in order. Would you care for my assistance?
Cuddles cautiously investigates the bandages on her mistress.

Well, it honestly looks like one more night before we go to take a look at Harrowstone, not that I am compalaining. Terrance says with a grin.
Ioann Vilescu |
"Yes, my name is indeed Ioann, father." he says taking his gaze off the ground.
After listening to Ingrid, the man snickers.
"Or they may have stayed dead but are of interest to someone... undead may be a plight, but they are not THAT common... whatever, Professor Lorrimor thought it might be of value, so it must be." says Ioann after rolling his eyes.

Ingrid tries very hard not to glare at Ioann, and almost succeeds, before glancing apologetically at the elderly priest.

He pauses and turns to the young acolytes who are tending to the church and clears his throat. Immediately one of the boys breaks away and comes to the Father's side. "Tell me, David, how many snakes would you say you see in a single day?" The young man looks confused for a moment before answering in a questioning voice, "None, Father? I don't recall having seen a snake in weeks. Before that, I would say it was just as long since I had seen the last."
Father Grimburrow smiles at the boy and places a hand on his shoulder, "Thank you, David. You may go." Still confused, but obviously willing to accept this, David returns to his duties.
Father Grimburrow turns back to Ioann, "A few weeks ago, I left Ravengro to visit with a family who built their home outside of the town a couple of miles to the North. Along the way, the further I got from Ravengro, the more snakes I saw. Having grown up around so many snakes, it became second nature to me to watch the ground I walk on closely so as to not be bitten. Marcus, the acolyte who was accompanying me, was never taught to watch the ground so closely because snakes are no longer so common in Ravengro. Dear Marcus stepped on a snake that day, and he was bitten. Fortunately for him, I knew what herbs to use to help draw out the venom and to ease the pain. He is fine now, back home with his family where he belongs."
The Father pauses for a moment, and watches Ioann's face to see if he understands. A slight frown draws down the corner of his mouth before he goes on, "What is common, and what is rare is often a matter of perspective and a cummulation of experiences. For one who has devoted their lives to the service of Pharasma, as have Sister Ingrid and myself, our cummuliation of experiences have shown us very different things in this world than what your cummulation of experiences have shown you. Whether it be snakes, or the undead and restless spirits. Like young David over there and snakes, you have likely not spent your life having been exposed to the undead and restless spirits. Like Marcus, you have not been taught from childhood what to look for, and how to combat them when you find yourself faced with them. Your eyes have not been made to be open to such things."
"So tell me then, Dear Ioann, who are you to deride a Paladin of Pharasma and judge how common such things really are?"
Turning back to Ingrid he says, "Shall we see what information we can find in the archives?"
