Please forgive me for repeating a question in two places but seeing that the triggering statement was delivered in two places...

Where does it say the Online Campaigns Recruitment is for PBP?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

It doesn't, but don't let that fool you into thinking that everyone - or even most people - who come to post here aren't primarily interested in PBP games. A review of how many PBPs vs. chat-room games get off the ground here would, I suspect, find it overwhelmingly in favor of PBPs, and not just because that's what gets offered. I, too, was interested in an all-female game, but like most everyone else, a chat-room game isn't something I'm willing to do.

As Jesse Heinig says, don't put on us that you didn't specify that you were recruiting for a chat-based game. You might be better off recruiting on whatever boards Roll20 has for recruitment, instead of on a place where most people are posting at times convenient to them.

I know you might be upset but please take a look at the top of the page where it reads: General Discussion - Recruitment - Play-by-Post - Play-by-Post Discussion.

When you create a new recruitment thread, the site asks you if you want to link it to a campaign and when you do so, it create a new thread in the Play-by-Post page (not general online campaign page). The same happens when you link a discussion to your recruitment.

If you care to look at the General Discussion, you'll see that most of the threads are about PBP and Pathfinder. If you care to look at the Recruitment page, you'll also see the most games are PBP and Pathfinder. When a GM creates a game that isn't either PBP or Pathfinder, most of the time they mention it on the title of the thread, with the clear intention to let the others players know what they should expect since most of the players here are interested in PBP and Pathfinder.

I think you are just misinformed.

I was briefly frustrated by getting excited over a new game and that falling flat, I wouldn't consider myself upset anymore.

To the person who asked me why I'm recruiting here, it's because I see tbe Paizo boards as my tabletop-game-related-online-home, this is the only TTRPG board I'm a regular on (though that may well change going forward) and its a place where there are many people I know and value.

Sorry for the derail and thank you very much all of you who tried to help me understand.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Unless you're completely focussed on a chat-based game, and that's what you require, you might consider the fact that there WAS notable interest (what, 5 people for a 3-person game?) in the game, and be willing to run it as a PBP. I will note that if you're widgeting things and are trying to play-test something, PBP may be slower, but because you can write everything out and have it right there, it becomes easier to locate your problem spots ...

My focus is perhaps 80% on chat games [primarily text chat ideally], 15% on IRL and 5% on PbP.

Text chat leaves the written log reference like PbP does, it happens in real time like IRL, and it allows me to play with people around the world.

I love PBP dearly, having grown up on it [started PbP roleplaying around 18 years ago] but I've found the format loses some of its luster in a game based around dice roll determining results. Then there's also the fact I feel PBP is best kept in a format with only two or three posters in total with the freedom to roleplay as they see fit without the constraints of a 'GM' in the way.

You guys have given me a great deal of food for thought though, I will ruminate on the possibility of taking on one PbP.

The Exchange

I'd like to see more Spheres of Power games on these boards. It's a very cool system, from what I've seen.

I haven't made a Spheres of Power character yet, but the system is definitely very cool. I like it a lot more than vancian casting and would love a chance to try it out.

I've opened up recruitment for a Curse of the Crimson Throne game here. I don't have my copy of the revised AP in hand yet, but expect to have the download soon and have all the original edition stuff to guide my customizations until then.

Hope to meet some of you there!

Same here, really wish more games would show up for it. Spheres of Power is a great system that allows alot more flexibility for casters of any kind or theme. :)

Iw it more a desire to playtest THAT racial class, or to play q succubus who starts at level one and grows into and beyond her bestiary power?

The latter totally has a place in my game.

I'd be interested if this is still relevant. I haven't participated in a pbp here on the forums yet as I'm just getting into to it, but I've got experience with both pathfinder and text based role play.

Sorry, but I've got too much time invested in Kyrt's campaign already. When it's done, I'll repost another character. Thank you for the offer, though.

Speaking of my campaign, I could certainly use a few more applicants. Scheduling is easier when groups can be divided up into those who can better line up with one another.

Roll20 Rise of the Runelords Playtest

Each group needs 3 people, both parties posting in the thread thus far are into RotL but may have conflicting schedules.

I've been kind of itching to get this guy into a campaign. Made for Carrion Crown, but really open to anything that won't require a total rework. Would prefer to start at level 5+ or gestalt. Made with 25 point buy to be a "big, gosh-darn, hero". Listed on the spreadsheet under CC and Any. Looks like not very many people get chosen though...

@ D-Kal, The Pale King, OmniChaos and others interested in a Spheres of Power (SoP) game.

Question for you all. Are you looking for a game that is SoP classes only, ie. Armorist, Elementalist, Soul Weaver, Incanter, etc.? Or are you looking for a game with non SoP classes allowed?

I see this as:
Option 1) Classes from the SoP only, and the Core Rule Book for skills, feats, and Rules (but NOT classes or Spells). Also Traits only from the APG.
Option 2) Classes from SoP and classes from the Core Rule Book. With or without SoP or Spells, ie. a does a "spell casting" Core class use SoP or "regular" spells?
Option 3) Classes from SoP and all Paizo material. Same question as #2 regarding "spell casting" classes.

Right now this is just for curiosity sake, but might possibly turn into an interest check / recruitment thread.

The Exchange

Spheres of Power seems like a pretty neat system, but I haven't really sat down and looked into it. I should do that now, I've been interested in it for quite some time.

The Exchange

I'd rather not see any magic system mixing, but there's archetypes for most paizo casting classes. Besides that it isn't hard to convert them by hand. So I'd say any paizo is fine, if converted.

Also, I'd like to see a game that does gestalt with NPC classes. Just throwing that out there.

Personally I was just thinking of a game where SoP replaces the normal magic system. So all Paizo material allowed that isn't from the vancian spellcasting. Most Paizo classes would still be available thanks to the archetypes.

Personally I would just like to play a SoP caster sense I have yet to in a game. I am willing to adjust as needed. On the setting side, I would rather not see classes disappear or reskinned due to the magic system used. I feel it takes away from the world, I would rather simply add to it. That's an adventure hook in itself if you want, find out why some people have suddenly learned to use magic in a new way never seen before. :)

That said SoP can replace or stand alongside of the vancian spellcasting system. That is part of what makes it a good system and a easy to implement one. As Pale King says SoP has sphere versions of all the classes capable of spellcasting from PF (except alchemist but they do have an archetype). So you don't need to play a SoP class to make use of it yet having it won't exclude anyone else capable of casting ether. If you want to mix, it can be explained as just a different method of spellcasting traditions, same result yet different means. If you want to use SoP only then nothing really changes in the setting as far as lore goes. PF remains intact if you wish it.

The Exchange

In case my answer was ambiguous, I have no objection to Sphere classes either.

I just bought the SoP book cos I saw a lot of folks around here talking about them, but have yet to dive in. It looks very interesting from what little I have seen and am keen to give it a try.

I just signed up for several different AP's. I will build to suit as needed. I imagine my story is the same as just about everyone's.. been in way too many startups that never left the ground, and would love to actually play in one. I have been GM'ing a RotRL for the last ten months on here, and we are just about to finish the first book. You can see from my post count that I am dependable and reliable.. just looking for a GM of the same ilk. Hope to hear something!

Ive been playing with an idea, and wanted to put it out there here first. What would yall think about a PFS round robin set up for the sanctioned content of the AP's?

What I have in mind: A group of 5 or 6 individuals get together and play the sanctioned portions of different AP's for Society credit. Each (or at least most) players take turns GM'ing and that alternates around the table. For instance: One person GM's Thistletop, the next person can either continue with Foxglove Manor, or move to a different AP based on group need/vote. All scenarios are reported and ran by the society rules covering playing AP's for credit.

Just tossing this out there for yalls opinion. I've been thinking about this for a while now.

Does this list ever get cleared, or is it just everyone who has put their thing up since it was created?

I'm probably going to slap a character up on the WotR section, because I really want to play that AP, and the character I made for it only got to be played a little before the GM disappeared :(

Edit:
Hah! Answer is no, I just looked at the list and it appears that my character link is still there from a year ago or something.

Either way, would still be super up for a WotR, or really any AP. PM me

I have to admit I'm surprised by the lack of Curse of the Crimson Throne recruitment threads. When RotRL Anniversary Edition came out there was a sudden burst of PbP's. Now that an equally beloved AP gets the Pathfinder treatment there seems to be a lack of interest.

I second the interest in a Curse of the Crimson Throne. I don't think I could GM it right now, but I'd love to play a character.

^^^ Same boat. I have looked into GM'ing CoCT, but I just don't have the time to devote to it. Looks interesting though.. I think I would enjoy playing it.

Strange Aeons, and school/work, and...

How up to date is the spreadsheet? I may be doing some hiring for a Solo AP path.

It's self updated so... I know I have some characters on there that have been changed or repurposed that I should clean up. What are you thinking of running?

The Pale King wrote:

Not 100% sure yet, I have to read through them to pick one that will suit a solo PBP. I don't want to say anything yet and then be unable to change my mind.

Interested in a solo AP? Not for everyone.

I've never played in a solo PBP but I am interested. I like the idea of having a more back and forth and focused game. It seems it would lend more to telling a story (which is what APs do) than your traditional game. Also gives you a shot at being the main character of a tale which is appealing.

I'd be interested ... though I would think, running solo, you'd have to start off a level or three above standard.

The Wyrm Ouroboros wrote:

Yeah, I have already been thinking of that. Probably start at level three (especially for casters). Would provide a handy and suitable NPC as well.

Any suggestions on which AP might be best for a solo run? (this questions goes for anyone who wants to weigh in).

Jade Regent seems like it would be a good fit, since the caravan is basically a ready made party for the PC to lead. You could also probably build a solid relationship between the PC and Ameiko. I haven't played it before but from what I've heard about it seems like a great fit.

I could see one of the Urban APs working well too, Curse of the Crimson Throne, Council of Thieves or Hell's Rebels.

Kingmaker might work well too, making for only one leader.

Might also grant an extra feat or two at appropriate times. For the Kingmaker campaign I'm in at the moment, the GM gives the PCs Leadership for free at 7th level.

For what it's worth, I would definitely be interested in playing in a solo AP. Never done it before and I'm always up for trying new things! The PC-NPC dynamics seem like they'd be really interesting for a solo-er.

As for which APs might be best to run in that way, I would concur with those who've said Jade Regent, since there are already other NPCs that could step in to assist if needed and the AP is already designed to play up the relationships between the PC and the NPCs, and Kingmaker; a you could always have the PC hire NPCs for the various kingdom roles and having a solo game would definitely heighten the "King-maker" aspect of it.

I have a paladin that would probably do well in a solo Wrath of Righteous. which is a possibility.

the use of NPC's inherit in the AP would be helpful for survivability.

The game I'm in, GMed by Kyrt-Ryder, is on indefinite hiatus. I can have a Pinnacle and Pit Succubus ready for any game. Or, if the game is non-3PP, a Half-Succubus (Demons Revisited) could be available as a second level character, Level 1 + 1 CR. Saturdays only, please.

P.S. Please PM me for serious interest. Use "Recruitment" in the Re: field.

I'd also be interested in a solo game, especially if one of my more unusual ideas could be used, such as my masterless familiar.

I don't have any pre-made characters for AP's handy, but I'm open to playing in any of them. Generation time for me is very short (advanced characters may take up to two hours however, as I consider magic-items).

Please feel free to contact me if you plan to run a PBP AP.

Curse of the Crimson Throne is interesting, I think when (did it launch already?) the updated compilation book is out we will see more of it.

I intend to run it IRL for sure, I may do it online.

Recruiting for a Mythic Kingmaker campaign.

I wonder if anyone's recruiting/interested in running something set in Eberron, preferably gestalt.

This character is waiting for a Reign of Winter game. Unfortunately, I can't edit google stuff so I'd appreciate it if someone who can would add me to the list, please and thank you.

I added you, Selena. Good luck.

Thank you, I'll probably need the luck given how things have gone for me recently.
:)

The recruitment for my Mythic Kingmaker campaign is still open, and will be until the 18th.

I have a ranger I made for Rise of the Runelords, an Aasimar bard originally made for a scenario, and a Caligni spiritualist made just because I'm looking for an excuse to play a Caligni. The latter two are open for whatever. Stats available upon request. The ranger was made using a nonstanded stat array so will need a slight adjustment for PB.

Is this where I post if I'm looking for a game. I'm very new to the whole Pathfinder thing so I'm really looking for something entry level.

Pompey wrote:

This is where you post if you have a character created for a specific AP or adventure. You can add him/her/it to the Google spreadsheet.

If you are looking for a game, here is a LINK to the recruitment forum where DMs post new games. Read thru and apply if you find one that interests you. As an FYI, it may take many tries to find a game that you are accepted into, as there are a lot more players than DMs.

Since the update status of the spreadsheet sounds nebulous, I'll post this guy here, as well as on the spreadsheet once I get home.

Abrotriss Contrar is an Arcanist (School Savant) focused on shutting down other casters, with Rise of The Runelords in mind, but I could adjust him to any (he'd go well with Wrath of the Righteous fluff-wise from what I know of it).
