OGGM's Sins of the Saviors

Game Master Jeff Przybylo

The threat to Varisia, in the form of an army of giants led by a stone giant wizard named Mokmurian, is over. Our heroes slew the evil giant in his lair in the fortress of Jorgenfist. But a greater threat now looms...

Great cinematic read of the action, enjoying the fight :)

I gotta confess: This dragon is AWESOME! Man I love his attitude. Great stuff. It stinks we gotta kill him. :P

Grand Lodge

No doubt one of the best run dragons I've ever played against. Smart, tough, arrogant. Perfect.

Thanks guys, I appreciate that! Confession time: Dragons are far and away my favorite creatures in all of gaming, and almost always under-played imho. Especially the really old ones who've been around a long time, and seen it all. The arrogance of the younger ones is what kills them, but the dragons who manage to make it to Ancient and beyond have dealt with their fair share of 'dragon-slayers' and worse.

Dax Thura wrote:

Plus: great mobility (fly, plus swim and burrow on some), cast spells, devastating melee attacks, etc etc. There really isn't anything a GM has to do to make a dragon fight epic except play the dragon as Dax put: 'smart, tough, and arrogant'. But mostly smart and tough.

I'm glad you guys liked it. It was fun to run.

Something else that I came to as I am reading through the Starfinder rules. I can't find it in Pathfinder. SF does not allow you to teleport into a moving object, based on the fact that you pick the destination, but it will change by the time you finish the spell. Found that interesting.

Female Half-Orc Wizard 7/Cyphermage 6; Init. +2; Perception +10; Darkvision; Arcane Sight; Fly 40 ft.; AC 23 (+3 Dex*, +1 armour, +1 Deflection, +1 natural, +3 Mage Armour, +4 Shield); HP 89; Fort +8, Ref +7, Will +13

We definitely had some epic moments during this fight. ^_^

Grand Lodge

That is interesting. I guess that would have been a fair ruling. Now that I think on it, maybe there was mention somewhere about that when teleporting onto a sailing ship, even if scrying at the time of casting.

But it was epic. And that thing about never being brought low like that made me so very proud.

I would counter that by saying that even teleporting towards solid ground, the planet is spinning on its axis and orbiting the sun. Yes, you could say that in that situation, your destination is relatively stationary to you, but greater teleport also lets you teleport anywhere on the same plane of existence, which would mean other planets.

I have no problem with saying that standard teleport can't take you to a moving target, or even that using greater teleport requires you to roll on the standard miss table, but it is a seventh level spell...it should be able to plunk you onto a sailing vessel, or even a flying dragon from a hundred feet away.

Dragons are the best creatures ever. Totally love 'em.

And I got my own confession: Boooo! I sure was hoping he would've gotten away. Kind of sad really. I wanted to fight that guy again and again. He would've been the ultimate antagonist. Man that was a blast! Aw well.

Next time send TWO at us! Heck yeah! Maybe even THREE! And all different colors! Man that would be great! :)

Javell, such a kidder. Clearly the excitement of the battle has caused him to become unhinged, poor fellow. Pay no attention to what he says. Nothing to see here.

Ha! Javell just reminded me of Tiamat from the old D&D cartoon!

Loved the fight and dragony nemesis feels :D

I guess I have mixed feelings about that.

Greater Teleport
"This spell functions like teleport, except that there is no range limit and there is no chance you arrive off target. In addition, you need not have seen the destination, but in that case you must have at least a reliable description of the place to which you are teleporting. If you attempt to teleport with insufficient information (or with misleading information), you disappear and simply reappear in your original location. Interplanar travel is not possible.

I would argue the key phrase is you have a 'reliable description' of the destination. Not many folks will have that of the inside of a dragon's mouth. I gave it to Tomaru based on the flimsy premise that he had just seen the inside of the dragon's mouth a few seconds earlier. But one look + moving at 200' per round + angry dragon = a roll on the table. Best method I could think of at the time. Seventh level spell? Yes! He had a 76% chance to make it. I'd take those odds any day.

In the end I went through all of this information and decided to to give it a shot just because it was a great idea with some really cinematic elements to it. I put the miss chance restriction on it because it seemed a fair way to balance it out.

The message here is we can offer up any crazy idea and I will try to make it work within the rules if possible...hence the sudden stone wall scene. The dragon could very well have avoided that if he rolled well enough.

I'm glad we can talk about this...more insight in how I try to run this for you guys.

Yep, I initially didn't understand why you were rolling, but then I got it. No problems there at all, but I do balk at the notion of a seventh-level spell having ZERO chance of doing it. Rolling on the miss table was perfect.

I liked the Tiamat in the Dungeons & Dragons-cartoon.

Grand Lodge

Sorry for being away. Had a small case of congestive heart failure. Should be ok with changes to diet and lifestyle. Thanks for your well wishes.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Oh my gosh, dude! Definitely take care of that, bud. That is scary. Good to hear it can be taken care of though. That's good.

Guys, I'm just dropping you all a quick note: I had a heart attack last week Wednesday. I am fine, no major damage, but am in recovery mode right now. I will be out until next week.

Dax: you take care yourself too! (I didn't think my game was a health hazard ;) )

Female Half-Orc Wizard 7/Cyphermage 6; Init. +2; Perception +10; Darkvision; Arcane Sight; Fly 40 ft.; AC 23 (+3 Dex*, +1 armour, +1 Deflection, +1 natural, +3 Mage Armour, +4 Shield); HP 89; Fort +8, Ref +7, Will +13

Sonuvadog. o_o Take good care of yourself, guys.

.... I'm starting to think we should start exchanging contact information just so we can check whether people who fall silent have or have not had some sort of mishap.

Grand Lodge

Yeah dude. Mine was bad, but a heart attack? Geez.

I went shopping yesterday. Hardest thing I've done. I actually looked at the labels on things. None of its good for me. With low carb, low fat, low calorie, low cholesterol, low salt requirements. Very draining. My diet now consists of apples, baked chicken (unseasoned), and salad no dressing.

Kidding. Not that bad, but still quite a change for me. Best of luck to you OGGM.

Cucumbers. Lettuce. Tomatoes. Just a suggestion....

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Oh my gosh! Dang, OG! You guys better take care of yourselves and that's an order! Man you two are going through some scary stuff.

Take your time, OG. Definitely get the rest you need.

Lym Blackhand wrote:

Those things sound good, perhaps with a couple pieces of buttered Texas toast, some mayo, and four strips of crispy bacon...

Wait! Not helping! Sorry!

Seriously guys, take care of yourselves.

When I first started playing this game, the issues were, "Can't play tonight because I have to study for midterms." How did we ever get from there to everybody having heart attacks??? It wasn't that long ago, was it?

Hi all, apologies for the extended radio silence, with no notice had to fly up to Auckland last week to cover for a colleague and ended up with zero time to myself >.<

Sorry to hear of your medical events OGGM and Tomaru, sincerely wish you a speedy recovery, take all the time you need!

Nazard, I hear what you're saying about time, the other day I saw the "Labyrinth board game' and thought 'Hey awesome! I remember watching that in the cinema when I was younger, I can get that and the kids will surely love it! They enjoyed the movie and... wait... does that say 30th anniversary... :O

Hey guys, thanks for the thoughts and well wishes! I'm back in the saddle - just give me a few to catch up at work, and I'll get us moving again!

I just did the same type shopping trip as Dax - very depressing.

Zen: Labyrinth = 30th; Princess Bride = 25? 30? Christmas Story (you'll shoot your eye out!) 30+ Breakfast Club = 35+ YIKES!!!

Nazard: wish I could go back to just having midterms to worry about!

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Man I can't believe it's been 30 years for Labyrinth. Where does the time go.

But I do love me some Princess Bride! Man that is a great movie. Picture this: I have a shirt that is completely black. Now you know how there may be an event that requires a name tag and they wind up placing it near your left shoulder? Well there's a name tag that is part of the shirt and it's the only thing on it. It says: "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die".

Man I get the most comments from that shirt. Me and the family went to Freebirds(Burrito type place in case you don't know) and they gave me my large drink for free! That was pretty cool.

I was most surprised when I went to Six Flags in that shirt several years back and a teenager knew what it was. That was pretty impressive.

1987 by the way. So yeah, 30 years for that one as well.

Grand Lodge

I want that shirt more than anything.

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Lol! It actually looks a lot like this: Princess Bride

Except the name tag on my shirt has a slight angle to it.

Grand Lodge

That is a massive pile of loot.

* wand of cure light wounds (46 charges) Praxim, Tomaru has one
* wand of magic missile (CL 5th, 8 charges) Aurora
* +1 adamantine warhammer

I've noted what others have posted as well as a few suggestions.

Grand Lodge

Tomaru would also like that buckler.

Praxim should get the Wand of Cure Light Wounds. It would be good to have a second character to do some healing when necessary. Can he cast Heal? If so, give that to him too.

Again I say we should better outfit Rexil. The better to make him a meat shield for me. Belt of Giant Strength, +3 Half Plate, and keep either the flametongue or the adamantine warhammer for when he gets a character level.

F/R/W: +13/+11/+10; AC/T/FF: 29/15/25; CMD: 32 (34 vs bull rush) Perc: +10; Init +4; Max HP: 90; Current HP: 90

Rexil doesn’t have proficiency with armour yet. When he does pick up a class level, it will be some manner of Barbarian, probably Untamed Rager for some Dirty Trick fun.

The giant strength belt makes sense, as does hanging onto the half plate, but before he even gets a class level, he’ll grow to large size. Magical armour resizes but I don’t think magic weapons o

Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness

Man a pearl of power is quite handy. One of you magic people should take that.

Thordak will take these: 2 potions of resist energy 20 (cold), if no one wants them. They may come in handy.

And I agree on selling all these: *Mixed in with the coins are tapestries, small items of furniture made of precious woods, delicate pieces of jewelry and fine works of art, silverware and candelabras, six everburning torches, and jewelry worth an additional 16,000 gp as Dax mentioned.

Magic weapons don't resize, unfortunately. Once you figure out who has what, let me know when you are ready.

F/R/W: +13/+11/+10; AC/T/FF: 29/15/25; CMD: 32 (34 vs bull rush) Perc: +10; Init +4; Max HP: 90; Current HP: 90

Does magical armour resize? If so, he could wear one of those +1 mithral shirts, since they have no ACP.

I've always played that it does. I haven't been able to find anything to say it does not. Bottom line: it does!

F/R/W: +13/+11/+10; AC/T/FF: 29/15/25; CMD: 32 (34 vs bull rush) Perc: +10; Init +4; Max HP: 90; Current HP: 90

So Rexil will take one of those.

Grand Lodge

What about that darkwood buckler? Tomaru could use it. He does occasionally need to be in the front to heal Thordak.

I'll allow Lym dibs on the Pearl of Power. She don't want it, Tomaru will use it.

Female Half-Orc Wizard 7/Cyphermage 6; Init. +2; Perception +10; Darkvision; Arcane Sight; Fly 40 ft.; AC 23 (+3 Dex*, +1 armour, +1 Deflection, +1 natural, +3 Mage Armour, +4 Shield); HP 89; Fort +8, Ref +7, Will +13

Tomaru can have the pearl; I have robes of runes. ^_^

Grand Lodge

I think I got this right. There are a few items in dispute/limbo. Need final word on them before we sell the extra stuff.

Praxim took the buckler, but he’s giving his +2 buckler in return. Same for Rexil’s cloak (putting a +2 into the pot). He can also take the wand and the half plate for Rexil, eventually.

Also he doesn’t need the masterwork arrows, since his bow is magical. Praxim would take the bear’s endurance wand, for himself and Rexil.

Grand Lodge

Tomaru is willing to take Praxim's hand-me-downs. Added Rexil's old cloak and Tomaru's buckler to to-sell list. Now waiting on Lym and Aurora to decide on scrolls and such.
