"Don't look at me; I need to be sparing with my magic. Running out of fire already..."
Tomaru |
Tomaru finishes his casting and 1d3 ⇒ 1 small fire elementals appear. He has it begin to burn the remains. "There. Now can we finish killing those things?"
Kellen Wrensler |
Kellen replies to Tomaru,"Sure, glad that's settled. Don't want anything might bite my backside roaming around." He heads towards the door the trolls fled through and checks to see if he spots anything.

The walls of this room are thick with green ropy fungus that hangs down over several windows, almost like curtains. Several large nests made of
the stuff cover the floor.
You can hear the tromp of heavy feet receding further into the structure, then another door crashes from beyond the room.
Map updated.
Kellen Wrensler |
Kellen makes his way carefully through the room, trying to follow the sound deeper into the structure. "Sleeping den, looks like," he mutters and points to the nests to anyone following behind him.

Kellen Wrensler |
Kellen stops, pausing to say, "Hold on - something's out of sorts."
He moves to the southern end of the room and pries open a stone in the floor.
"Looks like someone ran afoul of these trolls,"he adds as he pulls an emerald, a gold comb comb that looks like a behir (with its legs comprising the comb’s teeth) with tiny pearls for eyes and a pair of lacy pink gloves.
FYI - Gloves are Gloves of Swimming and Climbing.
Rhianni Verdani |
Knowledge (nature) to identify the fungus. 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Rhianni carefully follows Kellen and the others wary of the fungus. Her head nervously looking around the dank cavern and its nests.
Gloves should go to either Kellen, Tomaru or Thordak, if they want them...just my 2 penneth.
Tomaru |
Tomaru hangs back to make sure that the elemental does its work, then he joins the others. "We probably shouldn't take too long here. It could be that those trolls are running towards something rather than away from us."
I'm pretty nimble already and probably need them the least.
Rhianni Verdani |
Rhianni follows after Kellen and Tomaru, speaking to Lym as she goes, "I do hope those creatures have run off for good, having to burn their flesh just reminds me of our fights with that orgekind family in that farmhouse. Such awful memories."

"One good thing came of it, however. It is not often that you can be absolutely sure you've made the world a better place by setting something on fire and letting it burn to ash."

That made me smile.
Kellen Wrensler |
A grim smile comes over Kellen's face at Lym's comment, but he says nothing and continues to follow the receding noise to the ajar door.
"Into the badger's hole...," he mutters as he checks the path.

Rhianni smiles at Lym, "I guess it just depends what way you look at it Lym. Let's get on there is probably more trouble ready to greet us, our brave companions will no doubt like us to help them as we can." as she points to Kellen as he moves forward.
Old Guy GM |
Three round windows in this room look out over the southern view from Skull’s Crossing. Additional skull carvings decorate the walls, ceiling, and even the floor. In the middle of the north wall stand massive stone double doors, their smooth surfaces smeared with graffiti written in dried blood.
The massive doors are open, pulled just enough to allow a troll-sized creature pass through. Just on the other side of those doors is a stairway leading down...
Kellen Wrensler |
Looking at the massive doors, Kellen mutters again: "Great...the hole goes deeper...just throw some bones at my feet to lighten the gloom."
He glances at Lym to see if she can shed some light on the graffiti before he presses downwarn: "Anything we should know before sticking a hand in this mess?"
Lym Blackhand |
"Apparently 'wet papa Grazuul' dwells beneath," Lym translates the graffiti. "I have to say that this sounds less than promising."
Any kind of knowledge checks I could make to identify the soggy giant-daddy?
Lym Blackhand |
"If there is not, I can conjure lights with ease. Worry not, little sister," Lym says in a reassuring tone of voice.
Lym Blackhand |
"I fear this creature may be something more impressive than a perpetually soggy old troll, friends..."
Kellen Wrensler |
"I fear this creature may be something more impressive than a perpetually soggy old troll, friends..."
"If it's a fire-resistant troll, that's scary enough for me."
"Not sure if there's any light down there, let me check..."Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (10) + 12 = 22

"If there is light down there, I could try out some new arcane enlightenment, that lets me see ahead round corners and into rooms I'm not even physically in.. " says Rhianni a little nervously, though her eyes are wide with excitement. "Shall I?"
Arcane Eye ....

Arcane Eye ....
"Yes, lass, you should. Anythin' we can learn of anythin' down there before we go down there is good to know. No sense in goin' down there if we don't know what's down there because what's down there may not be down there. Unless... ya know... it is... down there." He furrows his brow in confusion, having the strange feeling something is amiss about what he said.
Shrugging it off, "And the lad's right." He pats the blade of his ogre hook. "I don't care what the blasted thing's immune to. Death will find it one way or another," he states with absolute conviction.
Kellen Wrensler |
"Looks like you should hold off for now; anyone shine a light down those stairs?" Kellen makes his way down as quietly as he can to see if the illumination will give him some insight.
Stealth: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (13) + 14 = 27
Lym Blackhand |
Lym mutters a single word and makes a simple pass with her hand. Four globes of light gently drift doen the stairs, one by one, settling at regular distances.
Dancing lights.
Tomaru |
Tomaru wonders why Desna does not offer her faithful an effect like Dancing Lights. She could call it Twinkling Stars or something.
He goes into the depths with the others.
Old Guy GM |
Rhianni, screws her face up with a little disappointment she didn't get to use her new magics, but it is only momentary and she follows the others if they descend.
I tried. ;)
The stairs descends 60' into the depths of Skull's Watch. The walls are lined with carvings of skulls in bas-relief. At the bottom, two large stone doors are pushed shut.
Lym Blackhand |
Lym chants a simple spell and sends the drifting lights further down the stairs to help the others see.
Mage armour up. Perception 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
Tomaru |
Tomaru keeps a firm grip on his weapon. "Darkness and walls made from countless skulls. This place screams evil from the mountaintops. I wouldn't be surprised if we came to a room with a pool filled with blood."
Lym Blackhand |
"I did not foresee a need to open doors today," Lym says, shaking her head. "I cannot assist you with magic, gentlemen. Not in this task..."
