I'm still here too, thanks for the update!

If you don't mind, I would like to know is when you usually find time to update. Is it usually evenings? Is there a certain time of a day (variable by time zone, obviously) that find especially convenient? While I can usually find time to check a few times throughout the day, it would be nice to narrow down the range a little to save some strain on my refresh button. ;)

I'm mostly available in the evenings (past 7:00pm EST), so that's when I would be making most of my posts.

Thanks.

Good question. BTW, you'll hear from me every day, even if it's just to say 'too tired, will update tomorrow'.

Most of the turn recaps will go out in the evenings/night time EST.

However, I work as consulting engineer so I sit in front of a computer all day (unless I'm traveling or in the field but I will let you know about that) so I can update (brief NPC interactions, and OOC explanations/comments) throughout the day.

Once I set up the Gameplay Thread, you'll be able to 'dot and delete' (post something with your PC alias and then delete the post). This will bring up the campaign in your Paizo Homepage and you will be able to check when a new post has been uploaded.

My intent is for everyone to post a decent post every day, including weekends, in which I usually have more time (wife and kids sleep in late). However, the more posting, the better interactions, and the better the game.

Congratulations! You’ve all been selected to take part in an epic Numenera game!

Brass Jester, Sica Sendrillar, a Driven Jack who Fuses Mind and Machine;
Proud Grognar, Antar Es, a Graceful Glaive who Fuses Flesh and Steel;
Ryan Doherty 446, Dreithik Sanguis, an Inquisitve Nano who Consorts with the Dead;
Sunergy, Agia, an Icebound Nano who Wears a Sheen of Ice; and
Arkon262, Zion, a Graceful Jack who Explores Dark Places.

I must say this was the easiest recruitment thread ever; I didn’t have to cut anyone. :)

So, assuming, you are still interested in the game, please head on over to the gameplay thread. There you can post something and then delete it. I am the only one to post anything on the gameplay thread (reserved for turn recaps). Coincidentally, I already did. I posted the first turn recap so we can all start playing.

Remember that all your posts, both IC and OOC, will go in the discussion thread.

Things we need to do:

Some of you need to transfer your stats and crunch to the preferred format and create an alias.
Some of you need to find a pic, either from outside (provide a link) or from the picture you select for your alias.
I need to roll for cyphers and oddities; I’ll finish that this weekend once I know who will be playing.
We need to start discussing some of my proposed rules and see if they would work. For example, I was originally against handing out XPs and just level you up when it made sense but I think that those XPs are part of playing this game (rerolls, advantages, etc.).
We need to work on connections (only for foci) but these connections will become known as part of the ongoing story.

That’s a lot for a first post so I’ll leave it at that.

So, in summary, if you are still interested, let’s get playing!

Questions? (on the discussion thread)

Game on!

I hate to admit, I am very new to these boards (I found the game through reddit.)

What is an alias and how do I create one? Where do I put a potential character portrait?

I am going to dot this for reading. Just started to read The Strange and love the idea, wouldnt' mind seeing it in play.

GM Hands of Fate wrote:

By all means. I'm new to the game rules itself so this may not be the best game for that but I'll bet you it will be great read.

And no matter how great I think my game is, people always drop out of PBPs so if there's an opening and you want to play, please let me know.

Sigh, I filled out the Profile and the site ate it...all that work down the drain.

Ok, I think I have this whole alias/profile thing set up. Let me know if I missed anything.

Are there still spots open in this game!? I'm super interested. This system is great.

SirGwain wrote:

I'm sorry but no available spots at this time; five players is a good number for things to stay somewhat under control. :)

If any of the players stop playing then I'll seek a replacement.

You're, of course, welcome to lurk and follow along.

Good luck in finding a game.

ah well a lurking I will stay :)

A spot just opened up so if anyone is still interested, please let me know.

The game just started but you should be able to get an idea of what this game will be about.

Questions?

oh reallllly!? I sent a pm your way!

Darn, 3 hours too late.

SirGwain wrote:

OK great then.

The first thing you need to do is read through the recruitment thread to make sure this is the type of game you would enjoy.

Please be aware that I do expect at least one decent post every day. I don't care if you're sick or on vacation (just kidding on that last part). :)

Seriously though, do make sure you are able and willing to commit to the game.

Once you read through the recruitment thread, read the discussion thread and take a look at the turn recaps in the gameplay thread. Once more, make sure that this is the type of game you would enjoy.

Other than that, start asking question, making up a PC, and we'll figure out a way to get you playing as soon as possible.

Hey Justin, these games are notorious for people dropping out so let's see how the process goes with the players I do have and those that ar applying. You never know.

awesome! I can definitely commit.

I'm not sure where to start posting... discussion?

SirGwain wrote:

Yep, all communication goes in the discussion thread and you are welcome to start posting there.

Game started strong, but we're down one player (only four PCs when I want five PCs).

If interested, peruse the gameplay thread to see if the story-telling style of the game is what you're looking for and let me know if you want to be a part of it.

I am nothing if not persistent. :)

I could still use a couple of players for the already started Numenera campaign.

Take a look at what we have started and let me know if you want to be a part of it.

Hey, Would be interest in getting in on this if your still in need of a player. Been interested in playing this game for a while now.

Toth93 wrote:

I do still want a player or two so yes, please join us.

Are you familiar with the setting and/or rules?

Have you given any thought to what type of PC you want to play?

Did you get a chance to read through some of the turn recaps and posts from players?

I'll probably 'handwave' your introduction and make you 'appear' as soon as possible so you can start playing as soon as you are ready.

Any questions?

Hello!

I was wondering if you still any slots open? The pace of your game looks to align well with my my availability and it's proven quite difficult to find a living Numenera game!

The kind of character I had in mind would be an Inquisitive Nano who either Talks to Machines or Exists Partially Out of Phase. I'm not sure which you think would be better suited to the campaign.

Also, while I've had the books for a while now and am familiar with the basics, I haven't actually played in a game yet. Hopefully that's alright? It looks like a fun system.

Thanks!

Skie

Hello back!

Yes, we are still looking for another player (or two).

Either one of your two PC options would be fine. I really want you to play something you are excited about so you pick and I'll make it fit into the story.

Take a look at the other PCs in the game and format your PC the same way. Look at Agia the Clanless for example here. I'll roll for your cyphers/oddities.

For that you need to set up an alias. I'm guessing you're new to these boards so it will take a little bit of time to get used to.

Depending on how quickly you can come up with a PC, I can get you playing right away.

The group is currently out in the desert looking for a group of Aeon Priests so we can have everyone meet there.

Don't worry about being new to the system/setting because we all are to some degree. I am here for the fun story and not to kill PCs. :)

Questions? I'm sure you have lots so don't hold back.

I actually took a look at the character sheets last night and noticed you already have an Inquisitive character. I was also eyeing the Empathic Descriptor so I'll take that instead. I went ahead and did up the character sheet already as well, Altha Kein in my aliases.

The only thing I'm not sure about is rolling - I've poked around at the Discussion area where the play's taking place but I don't see any actual rolls, just recording of results. I'm assuming that's what the dice tag looks like in use, am I correct?

And I'm really glad it's more about the story. The few other table top RPGs I've encountered have been sullied by GMs that like killing PCs. =3

Feel free to take a look and give feedback if necessary!

Yes, my sweet spot for players is five so yes, there still is room for one more player.

I'll ask my typical questions...

Are you familiar with the setting and/or rules?

Have you given any thought to what type of PC you want to play?

Did you get a chance to read through some of the turn recaps and posts from players?

I'll probably try to make you 'appear' as soon as possible so you can start playing as soon as you are ready.

Yes Ran Beale a couple of times as a demo, played in a not great version of The Strange. My son runs a NTYE game.

Fabian Benavente wrote:

I like interaction in the front line but I did that (Strong Vector that Fights with Two Weapons (professional wrestler)) in the strange game (we never got past tier one after months of play though).

So parallel to that experience I guess
Strong Glaive who Masters Weaponry

Glancing at the first post I could otherwise play a face type
Charming Nano who Works Miracles

Fabian Benavente wrote:

Not yet can do that today (wanted to give you something)

I just pulled down the turns pbp docs I may have a better idea of character after I give that a glance, over lunch and commute.

Well given that the party is composed of three nanos and one jack, I would suggest something other than a nano but I won't object if you are strongly motivated to play a nano.

Read the through the stuff and get back to me with ideas.

So my thought after skimming most of the start and the last 5 turns is a desperate man from redstone looking for answers.

How's Kellog an Honorable Glaive who Defends the Meek sound.

Somewhat gullible but personable oaf of a man who is investigating the terrors on behalf of his cousins troubles.

That sounds fine. So is your PC sleep-deprived as well or is he somehow immune to it all?

Did you just now have a change of heart and decided to take matters into your own hand?

Look at how the other PCs formatted their alias and do something similar. let me know if you need help.

Once that's done, I'll get you playing.

Remember that I'm trying to run a fairly fast-paced game here so posting at least once per day is required (more is of course better).

I'm not sure what that means exactly I wouldn't want to be incredibly ineffective in play but if it's something like everything is one step harder that's fine.

Otherwise the Cypher solution may work, a treasure his sister had that she gave him before he set out (That way I'm neither immune or affected at the start)

I'm not a fan of immune.

Fabian Benavente wrote:

The idea is that the nightmares have recently touched his niece who cares a great deal about and a small amount of coaxing by his sister leads him to investigate. I haven't caught up to the whole story maybe after the Aeon Priests left but before the party, you described numerous tracks.

Fabian Benavente wrote:

Will do, already have something started. (Posting this as Kellog for easy linking)

Hey Fabian, I got the Numenera book a few days ago and ran a quick one-shot for a couple of my friends last night. We all loved the game, we have a few 5th Edition D&D games going but Numenera offers a different play experience completely, one that I really enjoyed! I found a link to your page from reddit and just read through a bit of your campaign. I am new to this website and to this style of play, but I would very much like to get in on the action as a Glaive. I am working out the character but wanted to go ahead and send you a message to see if you would consider adding another PC to your game? I will construct and Alias in the same style as your other PC's - am working on it now, in fact.

Thanks for running this game! It is good inspiration for me as I am getting into Numenera.

Hey,

Good timing. Yes, I would like to add another player to the mix.

As you've read, some of us are fairly new to the Numenera (both setting and rules) so we are learning as we go along.

One caveat I have is that we are wrapping up the first short adventure; we're in the middle of the climactic fight. Therefore, I'll probably ask you to wait some before introducing your new PC. If you're Ok with that, then hop on over to the discussion page and introduce yourself.

You can post questions, comments, whatever there if you are not officially one of the players.

For sure! I have two character ideas that I am still considering. I have been reading through the fight, definitely happy to wait until a story point to join in.

Hey! Would love to jump in. I'll most likely play a skill heavy jack. A charming jack who explores dark places for example. That's not my final choice. Just an idea. I'll post a full character tonight!

If you'll have me, I wouldn't mind joining. I'm Breona in the other Numenera game. I can post daily, though times might be odd as I am in Germany. It is more likely I'll post in the wee hours of morning EST than anything.

Would be interested in either playing a glaive or a nano.
