Cypher Starchild |
Cypher grins.
Every chance I get Kefilwe, every chance I get, Arshea be praised
More somberly they bow their head slightly at the warning.
Perish the thought. I have no intention of doing anything to disturb the rest of the master or defiling him.
They gesture at the statue with their fan.
To bring any kind of shame upon the grave of the man who could create such beautiful art as this would be against everything I stand for... Arshea herself might smite me for it. We will do as much as we can to preserve the tomb.
They follow Kefilwe as he leads them to the tomb.
Eadric Brightcoat |
"You're, like, the second person I've met today who's warned me against defiling stuff... Am I that shifty looking?" Eadric asks, only half jokingly as he follows Kelfilwe "That statue was most excellent by the way. Arkath really knew his stuff!"
Mori Gimhargruest |
"Do not fear. We will not defile his body," Mori tries to reassure the priest.
Looking at Eadric, he says, "Fairly so, yes."
Eadric Brightcoat |
"Oh... right..." Eadric is taken aback for a second by Mori's comment, he scratches his head as he thinks of a way to look more trustworthy. Looking at Mori, he then tries out his biggest toothless grin and asks "Wha' a'out thish? Ish thish 'etter?" without dropping it for a second.
GM NotEspi |
Kefilwe snorts at Eadric's attempt, as if attempting to not let the laughter out. He turns his back towards you and continues towards the tomb. The exterior has elaborate decorations with symbols of several gods, but Abadar seems prominent. Construction-wise, it is a simple building but still stands through the test of time. At least so far. The only thing separating the interior of the tomb from water coming in from the rain is a set of wide stairs. As if in intentional contrast with the exterior, the room within the tomb is completely empty, save for the sarcophagus itself, which is a monument to simplicity. A box. Nothing else, covered with a perfectly matching stone slab.
Kefilwe stays near the door, inviting you inside with a simple gesture: "The Tomb of Arkath the Stonemason. Mind your manners."
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher looks to the gods and clasps their hands and offers a simple prayer silently for a moment before walking inside. They glance around and as the rest come up they smile and whisper softly.
Okay, got us in here, with permission even... now we gotta find that info. Let's be very careful not to upset Kefilwe? I like him.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 7
Raman Aldwislag |
Raman examines the sarcophagus from all angles.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
He shudders to himself, "Few good things come from tombs. Can I get some help with this?" He stands at one end of the stone slab and nods at the other.
Eadric Brightcoat |
"Sure thing, Bro..." Eadric moves around to the other side of the sarcophagus "But, err... Is this respectful?" He keeps his voice low, just in case.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher thinks for some frame of referance...
knowlege religion: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm a bit of a nerd about Pathfinder gods, but if i remember something incorrect or make a wrong assumption, please tell me!
Going by the size of his Abadar statue and his internment here, the most important thing is to be respectful of the orderliness of it. Be gentle, set it down carefully, and i'll say some prayers while you do so.
Mori Gimhargruest |
"That does look less shifty," Mori encourages the brawler. "Gives you a look of innocent, addle-patedness."
Mori concludes that there are more than enough people inside the mausoleum and so waits outside as well.
Helme |
Helme slightly familiar with Abadar and his love of balance and money takes a few gold pieces out of her pack and puts them in the water at the base of the statue. "Thank you for your assistance. Yes Cypher tries to do that to everyone. They are good natured if you need to say no."
She follows the rest of the group into the crypt. As she waits for the lid to be carefully removed she prays with Cypher.
5 Gold pieces
Eadric Brightcoat |
"Righto! Easy does it..." Eadric helps Raman carefully remove the slab.
GM NotEspi |
With Kefilwe watching intensely, Eadric helps Raman move the slab on the sarcophagus. The spirit of the tomb's interior decoration is applied to the insides of the sarcophagus as well. Nothing inside, but Arkath's skeletal remains.
A closer inspection reveals a silver coin underneath the skull. Specifically, underneath the jaw.
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher reaches down carefully and pulls out the coin, being careful not to disturb the body as they do so.
This is probably his payment into the afterlife... we'll leave it here, but I want to check it and see if maybe it is a clue. A cunning man like this may have hid it nearly in plain site, and what better way to take a secret to your grave?
Mori Gimhargruest |
"Nobody's dead yet, right?" Mori calls back over his shoulder.
Eadric Brightcoat |
"Nobody new, anyway." Eadric calls back before looking at the coin Cypher picked up "In a coin? Wouldn't it be, like, most like a stone guy to mark it on the sarcophagus wall?" He inspects the inside of Arkath's final resting place, being pointedly careful to refrain from any defiling.
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher detects magic on the thing before they lay hands on it, then assuming it's safe, pick it up.
That's why we will not be taking it, just inspecting it for a moment. I have no intention of robbing a tomb of it's passage coin.
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher raises a eyebrow and intensifies their study of it, trying to identify the actual spell or function of the coin.
There is some faint magic on it... darn it, I really shouldn't have slept through Identification 101 in pathfinder training!
Sigh... I was waiting until level 2 to drop my skill point into spell craft since I needed what I have for the build. >.<
Eadric Brightcoat |
"Oh, it's magic?" Eadric, seems interested for a second, but suddenly steps back "'snot cursed is it... like what Raman said?" He turns to Helme, wide eyed "I don't like curses! It'd be most awesome if you could, like, check it out too... Just to be safe."
Mori Gimhargruest |
"Hand it here, lad," Mori says. "I can try to decipher the auras."
Once in hand, he concentrates silently on the coin in contrast to the sorcerer's audible efforts. Cast detect magic.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Helme |
Helme walks up behind Mori and takes a look at the coin over his shoulder. Cast Detect Magic
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher raises an eyebrow at that comment.
Huh... That's interesting. Some cultures and faiths say that you must pay the psychopomps to take you to Pharasma. But if Abadar does not suggest that... this may be the clue we are looking for. With your permission, may we take this coin with us?
Cypher pulls a silver out of their coin pouch.
We of course, would replace what we take.
Diplo: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20
Thiiiis is why I put so much into this skill... I hate failing because i botched a roll even if my roleplay was good.
Eadric Brightcoat |
"You're a most excellent Bro, brother!" Eadric says to the ward. Turning to the three magical people surrounding the coin, he gets the feeling that if there was a curse, one of them would have seen it "So, err... Where do we go with it... The Grand Lodge, or maybe Janira if she's still, like, resting at the Wisp? I bet she totally knows a bit about, like, everything!"
Eadric Brightcoat |
"Oooh, yeah! I forgot about that guy." Eadric points at Raman and nods his head enthusiastically "Let's do that!"
Mori Gimhargruest |
Mori shrugs and hands the coin back to Eadric. "I'm sorry. I couldn't figure it out. Maybe we insert it into something in the Shrine of the Failed? Or maybe it glows when we're close to the secret entrance."
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher puts their fan to their chin and grins.
Let's talk to Fimbrik. I'm willing to bet I can get aaaaanything he knows out of him, quickly enough.
They wink at Kefilwe over their shoulder and smile.
I have a certain effect on people.
Helme |
Helme shakes her head in amazement at Cypher. "Have you ever met anyone you can't charm Cypher? It's quite the skill to have."
She follows the group to the gnomes house.
GM NotEspi |
Kefilwe just nods as you leave the cemetery. "I trust you can keep your word. If it's not relevant to you, bring it back."
Soon afterwards, you ask around the town for Fimbrik. Multiple people suggest you an address. Once you reach it, the house seems unassuming. The grass is cut - fairly recently - and the facade seems kept in order. Not much out of the ordinary here. The yard leads to a single door between several windows.
Mori Gimhargruest |
Mori tries the straight-forward method and walks up to the door to knock.
Helme |
Helme waits to see if there is a response. If there isn't one, she'll go look into any windows.
Mori Gimhargruest |
"That's the tricky thing about the Society," Mori sighs. "But it does seem like this place has been abandoned."
Raman Aldwislag |
"Wizards hardly ever answer the door. Too busy with their books, I reckon."
Raman checks that he's not being observed before retrieving his tools from his backpack.
"But if you're right, I can get us inside to look around."
Mori Gimhargruest |
"Ah. I'll just stand over here and look this way," Mori says. "You go see if the wizard is in need of assistance."
Helme |
Helme moves to the window to the right of the door, and peers in. "It is a kind of safety check."
GM NotEspi |
Through the window, you see a room that seems to be a study - containing a round table surrounded by chairs, with the walls replete with tome-laden bookshelves. In the room, you see a cyan-haired gnome, sitting near the table, reading a book and making notes on a piece of paper on the nearby table.
Roll a willsave for me, please.
Eadric Brightcoat |
Eadric follows Helme to the window "Heh, yeah! It'd be most awkward to explain what you're doing if the guy was just, like, reading a huge wizardy book and totally didn't want to lose his spot to answer the door."
Cypher Starchild |
Cypher looks impatient and walks up to the door and raps on it louder.
HELLO?
They look around, and scratches at one arm in a nervous movement. The bird tweets a few times, looking at the door.
I dunno guys, I have a really bad feeling about this. I'll feel better when I can lay eyes on him, even if I have to break the door down...
They spot the letters in the door and pull them out.
Handy excuse made available... Raman, open this door, I'll say I'm a courier or something if needbe.
Cypher's plot sense is tingling! It is both a blessing and a curse.
