Arnad's face becomes more solemn, and he is not even trying to hide his disgust. He gazes into Jezda's eyes piercing them with ferocity as Jezda laughs. There is a note of threat in his calm voice as he says:
"Is that what you always do when Order of Cocatrice asks you for a favor? I wonder what sir Damyan would have to say about such a proposal. People you see here are a family by blood they shed and arms they carry. So I do consider your jestinappropriate, for surely jest is all it was." Intimidate1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Before speaking, he calmly lifts his hand to stay the rage of reaction that is bound to ensue. Most of them would probably like to rip Jezda to shreds, and he doesn't really blame them, but they still need this son of a b#&$* and his horses. While he mentions the family, he looks at them forbiddingly, noting the rage on their faces, making sure nobody tries anything stupid. Well, at least without his permission.
Having grown up around the streets of Korvosa, and later entering into the military academy, this is hardly the first 'inappropriate comment' Zeltirina has been exposed to. As such, rather than the look of shock or anger Arnad expects, she barks out a laugh and leans forwards to speak in an amused tone, "You look as though you can barely get out of your chair, let alone handle either of us. I don't want your death on my conscience when your poor heart gives out from overexertion."
After speaking, she notes the look on her commander's face, and offers him an apologetic tilt of her head, hoping she hadn't overstepped.

Lorth starts to respond, going to his belt to retrieve a dagger... before catching the silent instruction on Arnad's face. He settles for carving a new spiral of Pharasma into his arm... all the while watching the corpulent gent with an unsettling grin on his face.
"Yeah, okay, okay... Gods, you don't have to be so damn touchy about your females! Chton prick me, you are as bad as Tamuri!" The man wipes a bead of sweat from his brow, leaving a greasy trail on his forehead. "Okay, I'm gonna get you horses - and good ones - but I need to see your money first!"
Tenobia, her face flush with the contained outburst of violence barely kept in check by Arnad's guesture, manages a grin that is at once amused and predatory as the man shivels as his manhood must have years before.

Lorth leans in close to the corpulent gentleman "Damyan said that horseflesh would be provided by you, not that it would need be bought.... We have no patience for your greed.... and I doubt the Cockatrice Knights would look upon it kindly."
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14- to get a read on whether he is just being greedy, and if the threat of the Cockatrice Knights looking upon his greed unkindly is close to true
Look... we just want to do about our business and like my good friend here says, and before he goes rabid looking at Lorth Just give us the horses like we were supposed to get from you and there is no harm done... yet...
"Yeah, well, I do business with the Knights, but we have a saying in these parts: Love for love, but cheese for money - or, in this case, horses for money. I gotta make a living." He thinks for a moment. "But, if you don't have the gold, perhaps we can make some kind of a deal?"
He is obviously not impressed with your threats. He seems sure in himself and not at least concerned about the Knights. You are pretty sure that he is trying to to sell you horses at higher price than usual, though.
I knew it with a flare of anger in my voice There is always a catch! and looking at the fat man wishing my look would cut him down like a hot knife on butter... not that he doesn't look buttery already...
"We might be strangers here, but we are not stupid. What you ask from us is too much gold for a horse and you know it. Name your other price having that in mind."

"State yourself plainly, we have no interest in riddles. Are you asking us to kill this woman?"
"Well, I may have asked a price that is a bit higher, but not that much higher. I am gonna speak plainly: I need a woman killed. You may pay the money for the horses, or kill the b+++# - I don't care which. She is no saint, let me tell you, if that will make it easier on you. Now, what say you?"
