Gilian |
Resting for a small moment on the stairs, Gilian slowly stands up, yawning and massaging her arms to get some energy back in it.
"Let's move ahead, we need to make some way before the other ones come. And even an hour rest won't help us. I need a full night rest."
Her strength slowly returning, Gilian shoulders her bag and unfolds her leather belt, grabbing the two stones at the ends in one hand while sliding her hand in a leather loop.
"I also wonder if anyone has een here recently ?", she adds, peering at the ground.

"Well, we should probably get moving. I'd say one person who can see in the dark in front, another in back, same with somebody good with a weapon. Gillian, as a healer maybe you should be in the middle along with anybody who mostly uses magic."
Her words sound practical and reasonable with not the slightest disregard for anyone's capability. She pauses for a moment, an amused look on her face.
"For that matter, maybe we should all get to know what the others can do now that we're down here all nice and cozy."
Chops the Defender Dworg |
"I'll head out front in the dark beyond the ghost-balls. I don't mind, and like Gilian said, we should get moving." Chops starts to stroll into the gloom, then looks back. "I'll give a shout if I run in to anything. Just don't attack me if I sneak back and appear suddenly. If I do, I will likely have some news."
Zafina |
After listening to Ilona, Zafina replies
"I am Zafina, and I can meet both of those requirements. I can see fine in this gloom, and I am quite handy with my blade." she touches the cedeku on her waist as she says this.
"I will gladly watch our backs so one of the guys with a larger blade can take the lead though."

Ragnar Death-Speaker |
"I will gladly watch our backs so one of the guys with a larger blade can take the lead though."
Ragnar nods and takes up position at the mouth of the tunnel behind Chops. As his brother comes down the stairs after masking their tracks, he gestures for him to take point.
As the group sorts out it's order and their eyes adjust to the dim light, the faint glowing orbs seem to brighten until they glow like torches. They orient themselves above the group, and behind their heads so as not to blind anyone. They seem to know exactly where they need to be in order to be most helpful.
All around Ragnar, extending out nearly 30 feet around him, pairs of tiny bluish dots begin appearing in the darkness. They hang and bob in the air at about waist level, swinging and drifting about, moving independently of each other, like pairs of tiny disembodied eyes. The scraping of footsteps can clearly be heard echoing through the chamber in numbers far greater than the group of strangers would allow for.

Sky'tor
This is one of the problems with groups this big. It"s time consuming to go back so far and remember what everyone else is doing
I saw where you said that, but Zafina and Sky don't share a common language, so I try and ignore what your character says. I realized this one day as I was going to have Zafina come up and ask you about your bow, but then I realized you wouldn't be able to understand her question.

Eyvindr nods as his brother waves him forward, taking point in front of Chops. As the others struggle to recover from the day's exertion, the older Dorn, apparently unaffected by those exertions, begins to scout in the darkness ahead. He looks up in momentary bewilderment and tenses as the tiny bluish dots appear out of thin air and the scraping footsteps begin to echo in the chamber, then glances back at Ragnar. Deducing that the eery sights and sounds are caused by his brother, he whispers back: "Ragnar... can you ask the spirits to be quiet... they make it difficult for me to hear what may lie ahead..."

If you can see in the dark, be my guest." Chops gestures as if a butler asking a guest to lead the way.
I don't know what Midnight equivalent word to use, but dude seemed appropriate.

Eyvindr grunts back at the dworg with disdain as the latter calls him on his rudeness, straightens, and squares his shoulders. "I make no apologies... You all seem tired, and my eyes are strong... The Vigdir have blessed me with night sight ever since..." He hesitates for a moment, and then decides not to complete his sentence. "Anyway, the Death-Speaker wills that I should take the lead, and so it shall be done... Now out of the way..."
Not meaning to stir up conflict between players. This is strictly "in character" attitude...

Case of me not typing what i meant to, sorry.
What I meant to convey was that Eyvindr should lead the rest of the group, being "on point", but still behind Chops who was going to venture ahead as a scout. That's what I get for posting in haste before I have to run out the door.
The raven on Ragnar's shoulder chuckles. "Man, you all look like a bunch of amateurs. Look, I think what the big guy meant was that you-" the bird says, pointing at Chops with it's beak "should scout things out while you-" it says looking at Eyvindr "stay between the rest of us and whatever he comes back running and screaming from. The ladies in the back managed to straighten themselves out fast enough. What the Shadow's wrong with you three? More muscles than brains-"
"That's enough" Ragnar says to the bird before turning to address the floating pairs of lights hanging in the air around the group. "Quiet down, children". He then looks to Chops and gestures down the hall. "We will wait until the elf can no longer see you in the light, then we will follow."
The noise stills for a short time, but as the group begins moving, the distant sounds of giggling and scraping return. Ragnar looks to his brother and shrugs. "It's like herding cats."

Peace, guys. The game is big enough for all of you. Chops is far ahead and he can not speak to anyone from the group. Eyvindr is on the point of the group, but he can not see Chops. Ragnar is behind Eyvindr. The rest of the group can arrange itself as it wills. Now, Ragnar, Chops and Eyvindr failed their Will save. They are hallucinating. Nothing of this happened except in their heads. Perhaps it is the voice of Shadow seeding discord. Ilona notices that something is wrong with the brothers. Chops is still far ahead. Now, everyone except Chops, Ragnar and Eyvindr roll Will save. Failed save will mean that PC begins to feel envy and anger against others. Check out the Discussion thread.

Are you talking about the saving throw that I had to role for, or a hypothetical one that caused Chops, Ragnar, and Eyvinder to get into a johnson waving contest?
You made the save you rolled, but I need some way to explain your Alpha Male pissing match. I'm gonna rule that both you and the Dorns have making of great leaders and that Shadow seeks to divide and conquer. Ironically, I intended for those who fail the Will save to turn against one another. But you 3 managed all of that on your own. Now, think of this as a great opportunity for role play.
Chops the Defender Dworg |
For the record, I was trying to add humor by having Chops choke on his water, finding the birds humorous, and not as trying to scoff at RAgnar's words. (I think I have in his background that he has a good sense of humor and is generally jovial). Anyway, I am having fun and am sure that some Deus Ex Machina would prevent any Pvp. Oh, and while I am thinking about it, back when Pete asked about the wolves and I said they were the back-up dancers on page two, I provided a link.

I like this "half orc gang boy from a geto against uptight viking-like morbid dudes" vibe, so perhaps you can keep that kind of character tension in the immediate future. I am greatly inspired by this little conflict, but your characters are now convinced that their honor is in question, and both you and Dorns come from warrior cultures where honor is more important than anything else.

[ooc] I don't think the pissing match needs explaining. You've got two proud Dorns, one slightly more paranoid than the other, in a party full of folks they don't yet trust (in a world where trust is hard won)... of course there's bound to be attitude!
Don't know why the [/ooc] tag isn't working for the previous paragraph...

The darkness closes around you. You start to hear whispers from the frescoes. Leaves shushing in the wind, ravens crowing and wings flapping. It seems as if frescoes around you have came to life. The floor mosaic constantly shifts it's pattern and you start to feel that the walls are coming closer.
Everybody Will ST.

I have no problem with that. It's just that Chops was so far ahead that the only way that contest of wills could happen is that you imagined it.

I figured that at some point in the campaign, after they have fought alongside one another, they might start looking at each other in new lights.

I hope so too. But this is beginning. Mistrust is still strong among you.

Gilian eyes open wide at the realisation of the mosaic effect.
"Listen to me people," she says in a loud and clear voice, "this mosaic is enchanted by the Shadow. It's trying to mess up your thoughts. We should all remember that we are fighting the Shadow, not the other races, not our brothers and sisters. Think about the dreams that guided you here. We were on our own before and could have been wiped easily by the Shadow. Together we are stronger and we may deal a blow to it."
"Now please, can every one shut its eyes and touch the one in front of him. Then let Ragnar switch his lights off so that no one sees the moaic. Someone that can see in the dark may then guide us."

Don't know if hand-waving the whole conversation away was necessary. It was a good exchange that could have happened before Chops went down the hall and made his save, but you're the boss. Moving on.
"I'm sorry children..I'm sorry." The big dorn mumbles sadly.
Ragnar shakes his head, trying to clear away the false images and memories. The bird curses. "Damnit, not again. Well lady, I'll see what I can do. Don't know how well they will listen." The bird looks up at the ghost-lights and gestures downward with it's head. "you heard her. Git!" The lights slowly sink into the stone. In the distance the sound of a child's disappointment echoes down the hall. Ragnar, somehow hearing through his clouded mind shakily reaches out and places a hand on his brother's back and reaches behind him to feel for the closest companion.
