Many rats died again in their mad charge at Chops - but seven of them still remain. Fortunately for the dworg, there is not enough room for all of them to attack him.
Two of the rats will attack Chops. Other five will ignore others at the moment. After those attacks on Chops, next round begins. Only the Chops, Gilian, Solvistania and Ilona may attack - and they will be attacked if they do so. Otherwise, the rats will attack Chops until he is down. Initiative order:
Chops
Rats
Solvistania
Ilona
Gilian
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
1d4 ⇒ 41d4 ⇒ 1
Chops the Defender Dworg |
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Chops tries to step on one of the rat-creatures heads, but it slithers out of the way, right in line with the head of his urutuk.
nightflier, would you mind checking the OOC thread about some of my concerns please.
Solvistania Elghreah |
"Ilona, Gilian, the rats are drawn to his dwarf blood! We need to draw them away from him!"
Solvistania's eyes glow a crimson shade of red as she allows the magic of Erunsil to fill her body, flowing into her blood. The feeling of escasty, which can only be described as...magic.
Once she is filled with the magic, she points at one of the rats attacking Chops, and a reddish white bolt flshes from her finger snd strikes it in the back.
Damage 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
I wanted to spice up her channeling spells, he he.
Gilian |
Gilian hesitates when she see the big Dworg sidestep the rats attacks as he seems to do fine alone. However, she summons her courage and swings her atharak aiming for the point where the spine is the weakest, right under the skull.
attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 damage1d4 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
As she has a reach weapon, any rats that closes to her will get an AoO
Eyvindr the Proud |
Eyvindr the Proud wrote:Oops... I forgot that Eyvindr has the cleave feat, so he should be entitled to an additional attack: 17 + 6 + 2 = 25; Damage = 9 + 4 + 2 = 15.Remember that the Pathfinder RPG Cleave feat doesn't automatically trigger when your target drops.
Hmmm... apparently, I only need to hit the first target--not necessarily drop it--if I want to voluntarily activate cleave, and then take a -2 penalty to AC until my next turn if I do so. And this was a situation where I definitely wanted to do so... :-)
Ilona Ebonblade |
Ilona whirls th blade high above her head, bringing it down in a brutally falling arc. She sees Gillian's strike at the same time, and watches for Chop's evading movements, momentarily finding herself distraced with not harming her allies with the massive blade.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
I have a feeling that's a miss even if there's a +2 for flanking
nightflier |
Chops reaches with his free hand and snaps the neck of one rat, but fails to catch another. Gilian and Ilona fail to hit any as well.
Two rats will attack Chops, but the others will now be attracted to those who attacked them.
Attacks on Chops:
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 91d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Chops escapes the jaws of the first rat, but the other snaps at his leg and bites through the boot.
1d4 ⇒ 1
nightflier |
Two rats turn to snap at Solvi and two silently try to bite Ilona.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Both rats attacking elorg enchantress tear her robes and bite through her white skin.
1d4 ⇒ 21d4 ⇒ 2
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
The rats attacking beautiful Sarcosan somehow fail to touch her graceful curves that seem to dance out of their reach.
Chops the Defender Dworg |
Chops feels the bite of the fell rat at his ankle. "Cute," he says to the little beastie before bringing his axe down on it.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
"Shit!" he exclaims as the rat once again ducks his blow. He reaches down to grab it by its head and knee it in the face.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
"You rat bastard!"
Ragnar Death-Speaker |
Next round. The others can't attack the rats, but other actions are possible.
going over Ragnar's sheet, he doesn't seem to have many options. If his spear can't reach them i'm going to have to get creative. I have an idea, but i'll need Nightflier's approval, and a little cooperation.
So the idea works like this- The Dorn Brothers stretch a net low between them and yell for everyone to run past them. The group makes a really easy jump check to clear the net, and and the Dorns simply move forward sweeping up rats as they go (improvised trapmaking using Survival and Aid Another). They scoop up a bag full of rats and hand it off to Chops (both because it's stylistically appropriate and because he's at the top of the round.)
Chops then proceeds to swing the bag of rats into the ground as hard as he can. Everyone else runs in to stomp the hell out of them.
Who's in?

Ehh, why not, said the character at 2 hp, he he.
Ilona Ebonblade |
Seeing Solvistania bitten Ilona growls, her body going into a fluid spin that takes her past Gillian's strike coming around the other side of her.
Her blade shifts in her hands, ond hand sliding down the grip in a vicious thrust, the other leaving the weapon to slide around the Elorg maiden's slender waist.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
"Don't worry 'tania, you'll be ok."She whispers, the rush of adrenaline and anger giving her voice an almost supernatural ring of assuredness.

Sounds good to me
nightflier |
You three at the front wait a little :). I'll get back to you.
Gilian and Ilona kill one rat each, but Chops' run of bad luck continues. Two rats in front of him attack him once again.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 121d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The remaining two turn to Ilona, as if attracted by her aura of beauty and wishing to defile that beauty that shines even more compared to their ugliness.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
But all four rats fail to break the skin of their intended prey with their broken teeth.
nightflier |
At the front of the group two Dorns and an elf worriedly look at the rats attacking their companions, frustrated because they can not help them. Their attention is drawn to the fight and perhaps they are not aware of the situation in front of them. Who knows what evil lurks in that ancient tunnel...
Perception check, please. DC 15
Chops the Defender Dworg |
Who's in?
Chops should wait until everyone is past the Dorns, as bait for the rats while the others get to safety. Then, instead of handing the bag to Chops, Ragnar and Evyndr scoop up the rats into the net, then all three take turns doing diving elbow drops, knee drops, and what not.

Sky can take a shot before mother-rat reaches Eyvindr and another before reaches Ragnar. Ragnar can take an action before the rat reaches him.[

Pete was intending to somersault through the crowd to get near Chops, but seeing the other folks messing around with a net has made him hesitate for the moment.
I think there will be no messing with the net. You can go ahead with your action, since it will happen before anything with the net anyway.
Sky'tor Tu'kaleth |
With a look of horror, Sky spins in place, and switches targets letting fly as soon as the new threat appears. "What in the... Behind you"! Sky shouts as his arrow flies into the semi-darkness.
Bow shot (Favored enemy) (1d20+8=27)
Arrow (Favored Enemy) (1d8+6=14) Wow that was almost a perfect shot
Second shot if it's still up when my turn comes up again.
Icewood Bow (Favored Enemy) (1d20+8=26)
Arrow Damage (Favored Enemy) (1d8+6=13)
Wow Sky must really hate undead "Die you abomination he shouts in livid rage".
Chops the Defender Dworg |
"You're going down!" Chops shouts to the two rats that have been avoiding his blows as he brings his hatchet towards one of the rats in a horizontal arc.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
"Ha!" he screams in excitement, then brings his fist down towards the top of the second rat-fiends head.
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
"Take that you fell puke!"
I think this is the third round.

Pete was intending to somersault through the crowd to get near Chops, but seeing the other folks messing around with a net has made him hesitate for the moment.
Quick as a cat, Pete tumbles over the heads of Ilona and Solvistania, landing in the middle of the remaining rats. Undead snouts turn towards him. If the Fell could look surprised, these would be.

Sky's arrows unerringly seek and find the eyes of undead mother-rat. The huge Fell doesn't even stop it's momentum and lumbers on towards Ragnar.

Yes, it is third round.
Chops hits both rats, but his blows fail to give them second death and their moldy jaws once again seek his warm blood.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 51d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
But they once again fail to break his skin.

Chops stares at the rat creature in disbelief. He thought for sure he would take the head off of it. He decides that its head just needs one kick...
Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
.
I'll wait until I know if that hits before Chops makes his second attack.
.
.
Three cheers for having Good Friday off!

With one hit, Chops splatters the rat all over the tunnel floor.

Can Ragnar's action be to hold and interrupt this thing's movement? He has reach and a weapon that is pretty much designed for this sort of thing. I'd really like to halt this thing in it's tracks.
It is doable. But you must move forward to join Eyvindr or wait till the rat moves by him. If you wish, you can use your action to move next to Eyvindr.
nightflier |
After splattering the rat-thing with his foot, Chops stomps down with a shout, bringing his urutuk hatchet strait at the second rat's face.
Attack: 1d20+2
Damage: 1d8+3
Rat moves and Chops hits the dard rock with his hatchet. If he keeps like this, he will have to sharpen it...

Done and Done
Ragnar slides up next to his brother and sets his weapon to intercept, attempting to block the abomination's passage. The spectral candle-lights gather about the aged pennant at the end of the spear, illuminating the tower on the banner.
"Almost like being back home," he says to his brother with wry humor.
