Sorok Hamfael |
My original plan was to continue with Sorok being a nearly unkillable warrior, as well as continuing to be the primary craftsman of the group. With the loss of the Dwarf Paragon and therefore a majority of my Damage Reduction and the Dwarvencraft skill, I'm going to have to rethink a majority of my character concept. I'll get back to it sometime tomorrow.
Doomed Hero |
Are you still looking for any more players or does Sorok fill it up? I built an elfling wogren rider scout, then noticed they were not listed in your updated races list. Other paths I'd researched were a Danasil scout or a goblinoid Pale Legate Martial--cursed by a fey to have no dreams, so he was less influenced by Izrador's dream sendings.
If your game is full, I wish you a fun game. Be well,

worcmrots, since you seem to have a solid knowledge of the setting, I'd like to point you towards www.againsttheshadow.org it's the official midnight fan site. Lots of good stories, games and discussion about the setting.
Ilona Ebonblade |
I've finished the new heroic path for Ilona.
Mark, you can choose this one or you can choose to keep the old one, if this one is too grim for you.
** spoiler omitted **...
I have to say, given the storyline, and the likely dark turn Ilona may take this path is pretty awesome. The murder of crows is one of the most visually appealing abilities I can think of. I like the idea of her not only embracing Ragnar's mythology but coming to embody it. I ronically it fits with his theme of his animal companionsbecoming Vigdir, his brother a Midgardi and his beloved a Valkyr.
As far as Requiem goes I pick option 1 going for full black blade. I'll retool over the next few days.

Thanks, DH. Actually, while i had seen ads for Midnight some time ago, this thread was my real intro to it. I looked it up on wikipedia, went through a lot of http://darknessfalls.leaderdesslok.com/, the site you likned to, and a chunk of the IC and OOC thread linked by NF. While the setting seems quite intriguing, I am more impressed by this group and the storyteller's iteration of it. Even the best setting can't compensate for lousy storytelling and players. Even the worst setting can provide an excellent game in good hands/minds.
I'll keep an eye on this thread and, if space becomes available, gladly drop in.
My initial background write-up for the elfling wogren-rider was:
After evading countless patrols and picking off isolated guards, Jaehan watched the inner perimeter and the group went into the inner circle to sunder the magic-sucking stone. They partially succeeded, cleaving off part of the Black Mirror in an explosion that sent shrapnel tearing through them.
Jaehan patted Rhoyna's neck. “Easy, girl. Let's go check it out. Quick and quiet." "For what that's worth, now,” he thought. They raced in on Rhoyna's padded paws to see what had happened and encountered the last survivor, the Danisil archer, who had a foot-long shard of the Black Mirror piercing his chest.
His last words were, “We were betrayed.” As he choked on bloody froth, a tattoo of a silver dragon surged down his arm and up onto Jaehan's, leaving a trail of burning pain in its wake. The Danisil and Jaehan both gasped, but the Danisil followed his with a final gurgle and rattle. Jaehan quickly searched his body, taking the large shard and several pieces of shrapnel, as well as the Danisil's quiver, flasks of poison, and compound short bow. Then he fled, terrified of the multiple bands of orcs that would be racing to the explosion.
Whether the shards drew them or not, he spent the next five years one step ahead of Legates and astirax. He slew three Legates with arrows tipped by Black Mirror shards and set a trap for a fourth, using the long shard as bait. The fourth one lost an eye to the attack, but survived, and is still hunting Jaehan.
My backup was the Pale Legate who was able to break from Izrador's service thanks to a fey curse cutting him off from the dreams that Izrador sends. I'd be happy to play either one. My RL group has splintered to grad school, kids (mine), and divorce, so a pbp seems like a time-appropriate alternative, and this one seems much better written and played than most. Be well,
crow

@worcmrost
Right now, the pale legate really suits the campaign I have in plan and it ties to the story in ways I can not reveal just yet.
Depending on the pace of the game, your character could enter the story in a month or two, perhaps. Keep following the Game and Discussion threads, and I'll let you know when the right time comes for you to create the character.
In the meantime, there are some relevant sourcebooks that would be of use to you, if you can find them. I'm thinking Hand of Shadow and Heart of Shadow.
Sky'tor Tu'kaleth |
I think except for equipment, updating my profile, and writing the Saga of the death, and rebirth of Sky'Tor I'm done. Sounds like a lot, but the Character sheet is done, which with all the options is the hardest part. This is definitely not a job for Hero Lab :-).
Should be able to wrap this up either later tonight or tomorrow some time.
I'll definitely choose a new avatar since he's apparently in a different body...Now time for my RL game, playtesting my buddy's new Power of 12 game.
nightflier |
Chops, I'm finding it hard to create a heroic path better suited for Defender than Steelblooded.
So, here is what I thought of: I can create a path that expands not your class(es) but your race. Something that would allow you to become a paragon of all dworgs. You would get a Strength increase and several options to improve your orcish or dwarfish heritage. Since your dwarf part is Kurgun, the dwarf heritage abilities would be based on them, rather than dwarves in general. What do you think? If you would rather keep Steelblooded, it's fine with me.

Okay, then. You need your white bone powers and Requiem stats and you are good to go. You'll get that tomorrow, since I mostly have it done.

I don't think I am going to be able to put the amount of time and energy into this game that I have been able to do previously. If worcmrost wants to take my slot, I'm fine with that.
Not sure if you read the Fine Print on your Hero's contract...but you're not allowed to opt out of your Hero's contract early. There is no bonus year, you must serve the full term of your contract. :-)

There will always be a place for you in this game. Whenever you decide to come back, I'll write you in.

Chops, do you have an IC reason for Chops not travelling with the group? I can update Solvi's BG with what happened in the intervening time. I hope it was not a lover's spat, he he.
Sorok Hamfael |
Since our characters don't remember anything of what happened since the night of the feast until we were coming out of the Kaladruns, it could be that Chops just wasn't there. There could have been some time spent searching for him with either a feeling and/or ever diminishing hope that he wasn't dead. Then finally the cold realization that looking for him was a waste of time and that the longer you searched the more powerful the Shadow's grasp was becoming.
As for equipment, I was trying to think of how Sorok could have possibly made it across the Erenland to Erethor, and I think that for the 2,000 VP worth of magic items a True Charm where people always fail to describe you would work.

What Sorok said sounds good. I am sure I am going to want to get back to the game some time in the near future. Maybe Chops was displaced somehow because of a dworgs inherent resistance to magic. He may have arrived on the other side of the continent but received some sort of message spell from Solvi and knows that she is alive and very far away. He'll have to sneak and fight through hordes of Shadow enemies to find her and the group again.
Solvistania Elghreah |
Given Solvi's fragile state of mind, she would probably become more unstable without Chops. I would suggest changing her AL to Chaotic. Depending on how crazy you want to play it, she could remain Good or become Neutral.
Done...I will decide how crazy she will be during the play, he he.
Muni, Keeper of Memories |
Might be that Chops is trapped with Ragnar. Maybe whatever he was doing required help. someone with a strong life force or something. Seems like something Chops wouldn't hesitate to volunteer for if the risk was worth the rewards.
If Sky is using this as his story on how he came back it makes sense Chops would be willing to try it.
When you decide to come back to the game, you wouldn't even need much plot updating, assuming that Ragnar and Chops are vaguely aware of what's happening in the living world, just unable to do anything about it. When you want to come back, we just hand wave a "the veil is thin here, with Solvi on this side pulling and Ragnar on that side pushing, we can rescue Chops" sort of thing.
Sorok Hamfael |
Nightflier, for some reason I'm having a lot of trouble accessing the PDF's on your profile. My computer just refuses to download them correctly. If you could maybe post them here on the discussion thread, that would make it easier to actually decide on character changes. I think I'm going to go with a Fighter, Barbarian mix though.
Muni, Keeper of Memories |
Soooo I'm seriously lagging behind. Life's pretty hectic and I can't seem to get more than an hour or so to myself so the birdie still isn't built.
Don't hold up the start of the game on account of me. I'll just be my usual snarky self and not do anything that requires rolls or mechanics until my sheet's done.
I have a long shift at work on wednesday, and I'm guessing I'll be able to work on it during the last half when it's mellow.

Just waiting on Bone Item abilities and Requiem.

Bone Powers:
I'm gonna replace your 3rd level power as well. 1st and 2nd level remain the same.

Monday is fine for me.
5th level: Familiar Form (Sp): You may take the shape of your familiar (or a giant version of your familiar or a similar kind of animal) as if using beast shape II. For example, you can turn into a Tiny cat or a Large feline such as a tiger or lion. You can remain in animal form for a number of minutes per day equal to you level.
Sky's Bow become a magic item. If it becomes destroyed, you loose access to its abilities. You can further enchant it.
nightflier |
I'm mostly ready as well. I need to complete the backstory with Duncan and my 5th level bone item powers. But apart from that, I'm all set with both Gilian and Pebble.
5th level power: Your connection to the earth grows stronger. You can now cast Halfling Burrow once per day as supernatural ability.
nightflier |
Guys, the game will start come Monday. I will review the characters during Saturday, so that you have time to change them if I ban a feat or something.
Only fully finished characters will be allowed in the party. The reason for this is that there will be a degree of randomness applied to the game at the starting phase, so you may get into combat or other encounter types quite soon.
Duncan and Sky need their bone powers and warrior ways and I'll provide them tomorrow.
I do need a reminder, though. Guys, which archetypes did you choose to be translated into warrior ways?
nightflier |
Damn! My post just got eaten!
Oh, well...
I'm gonna provide powers for Duncan and Sky tomorrow. I'm gonna need a reminder from you guys which fighter archetypes have you chosen for your warrior ways.
The game will start on Monday and I'm gonna need to see finished characters by Saturday, so that I can review them. Only completely finished characters will be allowed in the initial stages of the game. There will be some degree of randomness involved, so there may be some fighting or other types of encounters right at the beginning.
Duncan Bloodforged |
My warrior's way should be tower shield specialist. I still haven't chosen two feats, but everything else accept the interim story is updated. For those two feats I was waiting too see the structure of the group and if I can find some kind of synergy with someone else (that shield defence, for instance, but at this point I don't think there is anybody else who uses a shield here, correct me if I'm wrong). And I've been working a bit on the story, and will send Gilian my thoughts tonight or sometime tomorrow.

Hi High Duke, her is my thoughts on Gilian/Duncan background. Let me know what you think.
Something wrong had happened. Gilian last memories were that of a dinner with the leaders of these underground dwarves, who knows how deep into the earth. And now, she was only with Duncan, on the low slopes of the Kaladruns, nearly where she had started, less than a month ago. Reaching for her bond with Pebble, she realized that the small elemental was close by, a few feet under her, as puzzled as she was. Neither she nor Pebble had any clues of what went wrong. Nothing at all. And there were no traces of her companions.
Now seven years later, she was not more advanced. Together with Duncan, they had travelled from the Kaladruns low slopes to the Erenland plains to search for information about their companions. In the beginning, they were quite optimistic moved quickly from one community to another, sometimes just stopping for the night. As it went without result, they spent more and more time in each now village, taking the time to help the people organize themselves, teaching them not only how to fight and defend themselves, but also how to read, write, recognize plants, heal and the history of their ancestor and of the once proud country of Erenland.
Over the years, this common work fortified their soul and their bond grew stronger and stronger. Their love was not the passionate bond between fiery people, but a more tranquil one, founded on mutual respect, on common values and aspirations. One that grew almost every day, sometimes without words, fueled more by hope than desperation.
Eventually, four years ago, Gilian became pregnant and after a long winter in a riverside community, a little boy was born. Called Alan, he spent his first year carried by his mother, either in front or on her back, in a scarf tied the way nomad halfling mothers do. He grew quickly and was soon abler to walk by his parents or ride the shoulders or back of Pebble, listening to their teaching are to the stories they told about the strange company they had kept at the time of their meeting and that they were looking for.
Still traveling, they had slowly made their way to the western parts of the plains when they recived news. Words murmured to the wind came to their ears, urging them west to Erethor, home of the mysterious elves and from where Solvi was supposed to have come. A clue, at last, was all they needed to pack their belongings and shorten their stay in the small village they were actually living in.

So here's my unfinished post for my replacement for Sorok. I'm really angry because I just spent the last 3 hours finishing him only to try and save and have Paizo erase everything I just fixed/wrote. His backstory was pretty huge and when I write it again it probably won't be nearly so in depth or well explained. Grrrr.
