I think it's better if anyone not able to post designs a proxy, otherwise it will be difficult for all of us to find a suitable time, espicially during summer.

Okay, I propose:
Gilian/Duncan
Ilona/Ragnar
Solvi/Chops
Sorok/LyjIf any member of the pair can not post for a longer than day or two, the other member of the pair posts instead. Is that okay with everyone?
Sorok's out of town for another couple of days. Let's assume he does the gem thing?

You pick the ability from the table in "Bastards of Erebus". If you already have it, you re-roll. You will do this every time you gain a level, becoming more demonic every time.
This is what you got:
41 You possess spell resistance equal to 10 + half your Hit Dice.

Lyj got nat 20 on his Diplomacy roll, so he is largely being ignored by the derro. To them, he is no stranger than any of you, since they have no experience with surface races.
Also, Gilian got nat 20 on her Sense Motive, but I haven't had the time to write a long post. I am going to apply that roll on the dinner scene, though.

Sorry, in my head I'd assumed it was the special table you made up with different abilities, rather than the normal one. My bad.

Guys, I have decided to retire this game for a while.
It was a blast running it, but I feel that it has lost more than a bit of its steam. Perhaps we could all use a break from Midnight.
Also, for some time now I wanted to revisit my own campaign world, and that has been difficult given the time constraints of RL. In a week or so, I plan to start my Long War pbp with following premise:
The characters will be a mercenary squad, along the lines of Black Company or Malazan books, which got sucked in another world. And now they are trying to find the portal or a wizard, or anything, really, that would allow them to return to their own world.
The adventure will be designed to take the characters from 1st to 3rd level. After that, there will be an option to end the game, or to continue. The game will be gestalt and it will probably use some of the Midnight rules, such as Heroic Paths.
If you are interested in this, please let me know till Monday, so that I can save you spots before I start recruiting. I will need six players, probably. If I fill the numbers with you guys, there is an option to start from 3rd level and play till 5th.
Thank you for this wonderful game. I hope that we'll continue with it at some future date.

Hey, guys - I was thinking maybe I wouldn't add my condolences to this, since I haven't been playing as long as everybody else, but I'm giving in to the temptation.
This game has been a really good one. Lots of creativity and intense action floating everywhere, and even though I wasn't involved too heavily, I really enjoyed what little I did get to do. Thanks.

Hi, guys.
I had some internet issues and some RL issues, so all of my pbp games kinda died.
I'm preparing my RL game and I hope to start it in a month or so, as soon as I can gather up some players.
In the meantime, I have once again started to read Midnight material and just last night I've read through the Fury of Shadow.
So, since I got my batteries charged - I'm thinking of resuming this game.
Is there any interest for this?
nightflier |
No. The new game will start in Spring, 98 LA. That's seven years after the events of the previous game. I've started a recruitment thread, so you can dot it, if you wish.
The characters will be 5th level and 30 point buy. You are more than encouraged to play your old character. In fact, the old PCs will be rewarded with some goodies.
If you decide to play Solvi, you will need to rework her slightly. Non-Midnight feats will have to be taken from Kirthfinder feats document - I'll provide the link - and your heroic path will be changed in certain ways, because I intend to create new paths, tailored to each individual character. The game will take place in Erethor.

This should interest old players.
The game will begin seven years after the events in the Kaladruns. The premise is that you have failed to finish your quest and the party was dispersed all over the continent. Now, seven years later, you are once again drawn together, to finish what you started.
Those of you who wish to do so may write an additional "background" story that will cover those seven years, or at least significant events. Of course, this nets you a bonus feat. Additional bonus feat, that is.
You will need to use the feats from Midnight sources and "Kirthfinder". Here is the link. All prestige classes are locked to Midnight prestige classes. Most of the classes and heroic paths will be changed and tailored to your characters, so even if you were channelers or fighters now you will be different channelers and fighters. That is a reflection of your experiences and your strange connection to the covenant items you used.
The biggest change is that you will no longer need your covenant items to access their powers. The power now resides in your bones and it can't be taken away from you, so Duncan no longer has to fear that he will break his weapon. :)
I'll introduce some new house rules, new traits, ways to spend fate points, but all of those rules will be introduced before the game starts. Of course, Solvi and Duncan are inn. I'll start reworking your classes and heroic paths right away.
By the way, the game is locked to seven players, or less.

I'm interested. I'll have to check out the Kirthfinder feats though.
How much UC, AM, and APG stuff are you allowing? Do you want us to tear down and rebuild our characters from scratching, but keeping the themes and powers acquired through bones and aboliths?
Edit: Where are those feats? The link that I have is broken.
nightflier |
@Chops
I'll probably allow most of the stuff from the Paizo's sources. Some things I'll need modify for Midnight, obviously.
Your characters will most probably need to be rebuilt, since each and every one of you will get new heroic path, tailored to his or hers PC. You get to keep bone powers - and you'll get new ones - but not the aboleth stuff. Mutations and glyphs do not work once you leave the underworld.
@Ragnar
I'm not sure that your character concept will be viable for this part of the game. There are several reasons: a) your heroic path will be changed in order to be reflect some stuff that I wont to incorporate into the greater story: b) the prestige class you wanted to play will become unavailable, since I plan to create new unique prestige classes for each player; and c) feats like Extra Familiar will not be available, since I plan to limit the number of companions/familiars/cohorts to one per PC.
All of this severely limits your concept. There are ways around it, of course. For instance, Ragnar could have died at some point and become reincarnated into something else. I'll leave it up to you. You can rebuild Ragnar along these new lines, or create completely new character. Either way, I would love to have you.
@all
I'll send you appropriate documents with new rules, heroic paths etc. via email. My address is i.jovanovich@gmail.com - just send me a mail from the address that you use.
nightflier |
Those things do sound like they'd pretty well murder my concept for Ragnar so rather than try to rework him somehow, I'll just play something else.
There will probably be a place for Ragnar in some future Midnight game, so don't give up on him.
I'll need your e-mail address so that I can send you new material.
Also, what would you like to play? I've made some changes to the races and classes, in general, but the idea is that all of the PCs be unique - something like ta'veren from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time novels.
nightflier |
I don't know yet. Would you mind if I played Kiron? I really liked his concept and I think it's safe to say he's not coming back.
The game will be set in Erethor. More than that, it will start among Erunsil, in one of their greatest fortress. Orc is not a good choice. :) If you change the race to dworg, it will be OK. On the other hand, you may play a shapeshifter as a class, if you want. There is an article in Dragon #313 (IIRC) that deals with playing werevolves, werebears etc. 1-20 levels. You may even play a Dire animal, if you want, who can shapeshift into a man or elf.
Just don't count on the heroic path you have created for Kiron, since you will be getting completely new one. Send me an e-mail so that I can mail you the feats document.
Doomed Hero |
Here's a thought. I was going to have Ragnar send Muni along to Erathor anyway. What if I just played Muni as a summoning based caster? Maybe using the Summoner class or something like that?
That way I keep my previous tie to the game, and even a bit of the theme, but without any of the things that made it difficult or complicated. I'd just be an awakened raven with some class levels.
I'd much prefer to play something that ties in to the old game than start something new.
