Nightflier:
Sorry I haven't been able to post lately. I've been putting in very long hours at work, and am also packing in anticipation of a move.
That having been said...
"Yes" to everything you suggested in the last spoiler addressed to me. Could I create a trait that would grant me Pidgin proficiency in Elvish? I haven't seen much else that's of interest...
Eyvindr the Proud |
Ragnar and Nightflier:
Good suggestions all. I don't actually picture polar bells living in the Nalford area, so I'll likely go with armour made from grizzly bear hide.
The crown wrapped around my biceps is fine.
I am neutral about taking your sword back... as far as I am concerned, it could have been any plain old sword.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only part of my background that really needs adjustment as we discover the world is the reference to rallying the Dorns, right (because we would not have known just how badly and shamefully they had performed in the last years of the Third Age)?
I'll get around to writing up my PC description and the trinkets he carries soon...
Ragnar Death-Speaker |
Ragnar and Nightflier:
In my story the polar bear hide was some kind of ancestral finery, now fairly worn and turned into armor. Maybe it had once belonged to our great-someodd grandfather, or even one of the kings. It's certainly not anything slain recently or nearby.
I'd say we're right on track. It's going to be fun to watch these two try to deal with 100 years of painful history and destroyed culture.

Sky'tor Tu'kaleth - LN Erunsil Wildlander
Solvistania Elghreah - NG Elorg Channeler
Eyvindr the Proud - CN Dorn Wildlander
Pete the Runt - N Halfling Rogue
Chops - NG Dworg Defender
Ragnar Death-Speaker - NG Dorn Barbarian
Zafina Sabbah - WildlanderSo, there are seven of us for now.
Wow, so Ragnar is the heavy? Totally did not see that coming.

One other thing, covenant items will not be connected to PC histories. You can carry all the trinkets you want, but they will not gain any power of their own - except if you, Ragnar or someone else enchants them. But, I will rule that enchanting items with personal history is easier than usual.

Okay, folks. You have some time yet to put final touches to your characters - let's say a week. If Amertes and Nostri don't post anything in the next 3 days, I'm gonna call for two new players to take their spots.
Or we could just have a smaller group. (and by smaller, I mean nearly twice the size of a regular party)
I still don't have any appropriate Traits for Ragnar and I'd like suggestions. I don't have the Iron Heroes book and none of the ones on the Pathfinder SRD seem very appropriate. Any ideas?
You mentioned bonus feats. Are you handing them out later, or did I miss that party?

I kinda like nine players for this game. Midnight is Tolkien-like, so nine is kinda traditional number for fighting against the Dark Lord, is it not? Now, about traits... you can increase your primary spellcasting ability and decrease Strength and take Weapon Bond trait. The trait says that you choose one weapon (such as bastard sword) and one ability other than strength to calculate bonus to damage and attack for that weapon alone. That's more shaman/Elric like.

Yeah i agree, plus Midnight you really are by yourselves, no safe havens to run to, or very few. So, we could use all the help we can get, he he.
Signed Frodo, errr, Solvistania.

In my experience, it's harder to manage larger play by post groups. A few always drop out without warning. I prefer a tighter core of committed players, and I think seven players is more than enough, but I'm not the one running the show...
And if we wait for more players, that holds the game up even more (I've been grateful for the extended PC creation time as I've been very busy in real life, but if the game is further delayed for new players, then some of those currently on-board may lose interest).
Anyway, just my two cents...
Maybe this would be a good time ask what time zone everyone is in, as this may affect posting?
I'm in Western Canada, Mountain zone (7 hours behind GMT).

Traits added. One of them I found online on some guy's websight. It was appropriate and seemed balanced, so I added it. If you don't like it I'll drop it for something else.
The other is basically useless to me, but is too perfect not to take.

Nice story. You need to find yourself a bonus feat and include that into story. Remember to calculate bonus to damage based on Dexterity when using snow elf knives.
I know this post was not directed to me, but you mentioned I should write in how I got TWF for instance. I took that feat as my 1st level feat. Is you goal for us write into our backstory the bonus feat we "want" to gain and then you give us the thumbs up or thumbs down; or do you want us to just pick any of our chosen feats and write about it, then you give us the thumbs up or thumbs down and we pick another feat?
nightflier |
You get to pick one bonus feat because your backstory shows that you have immersed yourself in the gameworld and you thought about the personality of your character and not just numbers. I tend to award that. Now, you pick any feat you want, but you need to explain how your character got it and you need to take bonus feat which makes sense for your character to take.
Chops the Defender Dworg |
Now, you pick any feat you want...
*ONSLAUGHT You can make a running attack at multiple opponents.
Prerequisites Dex: 13, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, BAB +12
Benefit As a full round action, you may move up to your move rate and make multiple melee attacks. You may make as many attacks as you are allowed with a full attack, using the same attack bonuses and modifiers. However, you must move 10 feet between each attack.
*from the Black Company Campaign Setting.

Okay, I think I'm done.
I have:
. uploaded my physical description
. described my gear
. adjusted my background
. selected a different, second trait (World Traveller, from Iron Heroes; the feat might not have the most appropriate name, but I think its benefits are fitting in light of my background);
. picked an additional feat: weapon focus (bastard sword)... I forgot that you gave out an additional feat for elaborate backgrounds.
Let me know if everything is appropriate.
A heads up on availability...
I will be out of town, without internet access, from February 12-15, inclusive, and will be attending to other events on the 16th and 17th that may also result in me not having time to post on those evenings either. I seldom have the opportunity to post from work, during the daytime.

Everything seems okay with your background. Welcome to the game, Eyvindr.
TwiceBorn |
Made one last adjustment to the background and description -- forgot to incorporate a key thing we had discussed with Ragnar/Doomed Hero. I can't remember if I named the item correctly, haven't had time to to sift through the posts and I'm not home at the moment.
When I have time, I'll also add a few of the trinkets salvaged from our home...
Cheers!
Sky'tor Tu'kaleth |
I think everything s finished except for equipment. I've got to read up to figure out how to do that. All I really want is my Icewood bow, 20 arrows, my studded leather armor, and my two fighting knives, so hopefully I'll have enough for that.
Since I'm taking the Archery path as a Wildlander/Ranger, I think Two weapon fighting might be a good bonus feat considering his background.
Ragnar Death-Speaker |
Ragnar is shaven because he is ashamed of his actions at Nalford. While his brother defended the door to the basement and even slew the corrupted king himself, Ragnar panicked and fell into a pile or mad children in the dark, and may have killed some of them himself.
I think for a Bonus Feat I'd like to take Haunted from the Ravenloft core book. It allows you to see spirits as if they were not invisible, and to hear them. (It's basically a permeant See Invisible with regards to Spirits) You still cannot interact with them without magic or Ghost Touch equipment, and they are likely to be maddened and unintelligible, but you may see and communicate with them normally.
Basically, it's the Feat version of the Ghost Sight trait. Instead of Ghost Sight, I'd like to take Animal Bond.
What do you think?

I have the book. Its just that I have enormous library and not enough time to search everything. I never even read the whole book.

Page 48, Ravenloft Campaign Setting.
It's called Ghostsight, not Haunted. That's a different one, though I might want to pick that one up too.
I was wrong about being able to hear them. It's only about seeing them., though Spiritual Channelers do have the ability to speak with spirits (it's how they learn spells) so I think I'll pick up that ability at 2nd level. It would only be for now that I can't hear them (which is pretty cool, flavor-wise)

The feat is fine.
Chops the Defender Dworg |
I am looking into the Scorpion Style and the Gorgon's fist feats instead of Mobility and Spring attack. Under the Defender class, the Stunning strike DC is the characters Str modifier instead of the wisdom modifier. Would I apply that change to any unarmed strikes that would use a Wis modifier to keep things consistent?
