If you go without a deity, I would suggest the list from Spiritual Weapon, based on an alignment of your choice:
Chaos (battleaxe), Evil (light flail), Good (warhammer), Law (longsword).
Either that, or perhaps based on the Domain you pick, and a weapon associated with a deity that grants said domain? This is slightly more work, but would allow much greater variety.

Hi,
Dots thinking of doing a undead bard. But question can the undead be healed from spells such as light heal then?
if you look towards the bottom of the first page. there are some clarifications about the fallen. They only have some of the undead traits. heal from positive energy, look deadish, etc. Their adjustments are very similar to a damphir. just remember, you would have a con score unlike undead. and in regards to your question about light heal. for the fallen, all the heal and harm spells are effectivly flipped because you are treated as undead ie. your heal from harm spells and are harmed from heal spells.

How did you want hit points determined? Didn't see that.
I was assuming HP was full 1st HD & 1/2+1 for the rest.
I was fine with them being undead vs being "fallen". I was hoping to just have to outsmart the buggers.
Working on my build, will be checking my messages. Keep the collusion going, team heroes! For justice, for glory, for PONY! (LFG comic, anyone?)

Is there a way to start a private (locked) thread on these forums, for team discussion? We heroes have much to discuss.
Also, have any of you heroes checked out the campaign info?
While I'm not on the hero side, I would suggest Obsidian Portal. It may not be great, but it is free and would provide you with what you want.

In hindsight, if someone on the heroes team wants to play a class that can raise dead, I'd much appreciate it. Otherwise, if you guys die I got your back. If I die, I'm screwed. And since I intend to be on the front lines, that is a probability. And if I'm dead, there's nobody to raise you. So, in summary... heal plz.
Skorn |
I want in on the hero's side.
If I play a wizard, will I have to pay for fleshing out my spellbook? In most games arcane casters with books benefit as they level by finding and sharing spells in addition to buying a few and the two per level they get to learn for free. Having to buy all spells above what you learn while you level would be a big resource drain and might prevent me from playing a wizard. Is there a reasonable fix to this? No advantage to either side as both sides can have wizards that benefit from it.
And I know you already have someone planning to play one, and I do not want to start a thread about this subject, but I strongly recommend we do not allow synthesist summoners. They have been banned from PFS due to being too OP and for good reason. In a 20 point build they will end up with 50+ point equivalent builds. I would be ok with no gunslingers too, but I do not feel as strongly about that class. Now that I have voiced my opinion I will not comment further on the topic.

does the subtype fallen mean uncontrolled mindless undead will treat you as undead and not attack?
Yes.
As to how this will work:
Gameplay will be done through two seperate campaign threads (Fallen and Heroes) and will use the honor system much like elves vs dwarves.
However, I would suggest perhaps using something as google docs shared with only the members of your group to write ideas.
Skype is also good for group chats.
As to how to win:
The winning team only wins when they either control all 7 provinces or all the other team members have been slain permanently.
Also, do not forget that the world is not devoid of NPCs and wandering monsters.

Character Name: The Bitter Lord Brechan
Faction: Fallen
Character Sheet Completed: No
- - - - -
Here's a bit of a backstory/concept for the character:
Brechan the Silversword was one of the finest warriors of an age. Though he began his career as a mercenary, he won the respect and favor of several minor lords and ladies across the land, earning a reputation as a kindhearted scoundrel. By the time he reached middle age, Brechan had amassed a fair amount of wealth and honor, and decided to settle down with a woman he had fallen in love with during adventuring.
But unfortunately for Brechan, and for the world, she did not return his affection. Brechan took up his sword once more, throwing himself recklessly into his work, taking on jobs and enemies far more powerful than he was. He drifted into melancholy, then full-blown depression, and it became obvious that he was attempting to get himself killed by accepting dangerous jobs.
Eventually, it worked.
Yet even death was not enough to settle poor Brechan's soul. He rose as one of the Lords of the Fallen, still as bitter and melancholy as when he was alive. Unlike so many of his new allies, Brechan was not particularly interested in evil for its own sake, or in taking over the lands: he simply withdrew into himself, growing ever colder and more selfish.
Not sure on race or class just yet, but I'm thinking human... something. Perhaps even straight fighter, or with an archetype. I'll have to decide.

A few questions about the "fallen". Do they count as undead for all spells? What about item properties? Supernatural & spell-like abilities? Can they "raise dead" or "animate dead" each other? Now that they have CON scores, they have to make FORT saves and can take non-lethal damage, right?
A few questions about posting. How often should people post? How often should we expect encounters? What else should we expect besides encounters? When not encountering each other, are we simply defending against random prowling beasts, or fighting monsters on our way to go take back a domain? Or are we also spending some time dungeon-delving for gold and treasure (since our "professions" will hardly yield us 1st-level potions per dedicated IRL week of "work")?

As to your second question, I've answered parts of it earlier. You post once a day declaring your action. A complete list of possible actions will be posted.
An example: On Day 31 you decide to travel to a local dungeon. The journey takes two days so for the next two days your character is travelling. I roll on the random encounters... and oh look, a dire bear. I will reply to your action with something like this.
===
You've begun your journey but are assaulted by a wild dire bear.
Bear's Stats
Rewards here
===
When encountering monsters you yourself run them against your character or group of characters so as to not waste time. The creature will have a tactics bar. Combat is expected to be rolled within a spoilered text box like this.
Me vs Dire Bear
My Init: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Bear Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Round 1
Bear Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Bear Damage: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
I use burning hands
etc
etc
etc

Also, as mentioned above, NPCs can also provide money.
Say you design a level 1 expert NPC with say, a +8 Profession bonus. Taking 20, that's a 28 for each NPC.
Depending on how many Experts you train out of your maximum NPC troops, you can easily make money this way. Of course, items that can be purchased are determined by your settlement.
Fallen will have a slightly harder time buying.

Cool. Got a profile up for my character idea. Changed the name to Tristan, but otherwise keeping with the concept. In his stats I included the +2 bump for levels. Will work on background and other fluff, then crunch.
Voice of Darkness |
With regards to magic items. I know that you said we cannot craft them until in game. However could we pay for a full priced item with say: Continuous: Daylight (45,000 gp) This is just an example item, but would that be acceptable?
I'd appreciate if all homebrewed items are cleared first.
This includes a complete item description and cost breakdown.
Prepared Spellcasters
Skorn has brought to my attention the lack of spells known by prepared spellcasters due to the 2/level issues.
His idea was the following:
I would propose that to represent those spells gained through adventuring you allow 5 spells per level instead of 2. I would still bear the cost of scribing them into my spellbook. And of course this would apply to arcane casters from both sides that must acquire their spells (I believe Wizards, witches, magus, and even alchemists, but am not sure. )
I'd like to know the group's opinion on this.
Xzaral |
Additional spells known increases a wizards versatility. They should still get the 2/level (or as appropriate for alchemists), but reducing the costs doesn't seem right in my opinion. I wouldn't make them pay for scrolls, just the inscription costs for additional spells though.
Witches are a little harder as if I recall they need a scroll to teach their familiar, or just another witch's familiar. Not sure how to resolve that one.

My argument was that a 10 level caster would have likely run across quite a few chances to copy spell from captured spell books, ally spell casters, Blood transcription, etc. as they leveled. They would still have to pay scribing cost, but to have them buy scrolls for every spell they know about their two per level is very costly and not a realistic representation of how they gained access to their spells.

Yea, reading that I think we're arguing the same thing then, aside from the cap per level. I'm fine with Skorn's idea then.

another random question, I figure with 52k to start with we wont have anyone with a real need to watch it, but are we going to be using light, medium, and heavy loads with their respective restrictions and penalties? I'll be fine either way, just wanted to get a feel and see if I need to mix up a few items and such.
