As Bedmyr takes a deep swig of the creamy frothy beer, a young man enters the tavern followed by two gillmen, the boy points at you and Nester sat at your table, before his outstretched hand grasps a coin from one of the gillman and the boy disappears. Others in the tavern look up to see the male gillman holding delicately wrapped bundle of cloth and a female beside him, walk over towards the table where Bedmyr and Nester are sitting. The tavern resumes its noisy occupation as the male gillman introduces himself and sits at your table, "Good evening gentlemen, I am Shaolo and my friend Ahrmisa, delegates from the embassy. I have with me something that might interest you. Do you have the relic to trade?" he asks, as the female bodyguard stands next to the table, watching. "Please may I see it, that I may show you the treasure with which we will exchange?" he asks. Nester nods at Bedymyr to show the relic from the Pathfinder's vaults, as Shaolo carefully unwraps his own. As Shaolo finishes unwrapping his strange
looking bronzed metallic object, he looks approvingly at the one you have brought to exchange.

Anyone of you can make an appraise check, as you can see the gillman's item on the table. You have time to use magic to help you or others with the appraise check.

Crar the bird shaman cranes his neck over to look, trying to be surreptitious but without much luck.

Crar assists as with the appraise check as well. +3 bonus to whoever is making the actual roll. Though, with that result, maybe Crar just recognizes it for what it is? If that is the case, Crar's actions are as follows:

Seeing the item, Crar crosses the room to where Bedmyr, Nester, and the gillmen are sitting. Without announcing himself, he marches up and starts to reach for the piece. Hey! What kind of game are youtrying to play on us?" Crar will need to learn diplomacy one of these days.

Deevor, I think Bedmyr might be out of action for a while, I think John's just taken up a new job out of town so may not be set up for checking posts just now.

Surprise Round
The gillman hastily picks up the Pathfinder's treasure as Nester and Bedmyr do the same with the gillman's. Crar quickly marches over, he leans over the table to uncover the fake gillman's ancient treasure, "Hey! What kind of game are you trying to play on us?" As the last syllables exit his mouth a a loud crash of glass breaking is heard at the bar, grabbing everyone's attention, (except the gillmen), who all turn and look to see what's happened. The gillwoman bartender behind the bar is seen making strange figures with her arms and mouthing words, as almost immediately a torch lamp at the end of the bar flares up. Brilliant, bright, excruciatingly bright colors flare from the torch, most hurtful of all is the brilliant pure burning bright magnesium white light that seems to overwhelm your retina burning into your brain.

Everyone make a Fortitude or Will save DC 15 or be blinded for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 rounds

Lillia stumbles back to the railing around the pool, rubbing at her eyes in an attempt to wipe away the floating shapes left by the flash of light.

Targ blinded by the pyrotechnics moves towards the door slowly as he draws his Wakizashi. Whilst an arrow flies into the bar from Latharel's bow as he moves forward.

The gillman behind the bar, makes her way towards the exit, muttering words as she goes. She points across the at the group negotiating as a stream of black silken rope issues from her hand covering everyone around the table except the gillmen.

Bedmyr CMB to grab 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

The strands don't seem to affect Bedmyr who attempts to grab the Pathfinder's artifact back again, but with the webbing around him, he finds it difficult and is unable to get a grip on the treasure. However he picks his battleaxe from his belt, threatening the gillman.

The gillman with the artifact, as he pulls the item back, pushes his seat away getting up and making for the exit. Bedmyr uses his battleaxe 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16 damage 1d8 ⇒ 3 to try and bring down the gillman as he makes his escape, hitting him drawing a stream of blood from his arm, but it doesn't stop him. The other gillman goes to protect her mate, drawing her spear she attempts to stick Latheral Spear attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 but misses with her vicious point.

Crar is caught in the sticky black strands, Crar is able to scrap the sticky strands off him, Crar you have a move action, but need to make a CMD or Escape Artist check against the web to move through it.

Lillia tries to remove the bright lights in front of her eyes.

Nearly all the other patrons shout out in confusion as their eyes surcumb to the bright flaming flare.

It is a move action to get up off a chair.

"Oh no you don't!" Crar desperately struggles to break free of the silky strands, as he watches the gillmen heading for the exit with the Pathfinder artifact.

Move action: move out of the webbed area and move to intercept the gillman with the artifact. CMB check to break free 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Round 2
Crar tries to run down the gillman and tackle him to the ground, still unsure what the situation is. One thing is for sure, the gillmeen seem to have done some kind of double-cross, and seem intent on stealing the Pathfinder item.

Assuming Crar breaks free of the webbing, he tries to flying tackle the gillman with item: CMB check for grapple 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9. If he doesn't get free of the webbing, he keeps trying to get free, can he apply the CMB check towards breaking free.

Anyone have a handy sleep spell to hand?

I'm trying to interpret the map - there are two gillman pretty close to Latharel - which one is having the artifact. I assume the woman to the Southeast is the bar woman.
I can try to go after the barwoman - charge (possibly taking an AoO) - or I can go for one of the two gillman.

The gillman next to Latharel is engaged in melee with Latharel. The gillman 2 squares away from Latharel has the artifact. The woman south-west of you is the bar woman. At the moment Latharel is holding a bow, being threatened by the gillman with a spear, (she is without the artifact). Hope this clarifies it.

Move Action: Crar struggles through the sticky webbing eventually freeing himself and staggering on towards the gillmen.

Round 2
Targ continues to struggle, blindly feeling his way towards the table where he saw his friends last, knocking into chairs as he goes. To his left Targ hears the sound of Latharel's blade swish through the air, followed by a gurgling sound as a body slump's to the floor. Latheral looks on, "Hand it back - this belongs to us!", as with a single cut into the gillman's neck, he severs the gillman's artery spurting blood as he makes his final death sound, bubbling blood through his mouth.

The bar woman hand raises and a flash of light almost centred on Latharel's nose causes the elf's eyes to blink. Cast Daze on Latharel, Will Save DC 12 or Latharel can take no actions for 1 round. She moves towards the pier outside the tavern.

Bedmyr rises, his battleaxe in hand, moves towards the remaining gillman.

The female gillman drops her spear and picks up the artifact before making a dash towards the door. AoO for Latharel as gillman moves away, unless he is dazed.

Lillia stumbles round the aquarium.

Crar's 2nd round turn next, followed by Targ (whose sight has returned, he cannot charge the gillman, because of the tavern furniture) and Latharel, (if not dazed). Liilia's sight has returned, but she will not have a turn until after the gillmen.

The Exchange

Crar bolts after the escaping gillmen, hoping to get close enough to the woman with the artifact to detain her.

Feel a bit committed as I already made a grapple roll, though from the result fat lot of good that's going to do. I'll just transfer the object of the grapple from the downed gillman to the woman holding the artifact. If I charge can I apply the bonus to the CMB check? After that, time to start looking at my spells, thought I don't know if I have anything applicable.

Crar cannot charge the gillman with the artifact, but can using a double move gets to P,11 next to the gillman with the artifact. P.S. I useed your grapple roll to escape from the webbing that engulfed and grappled you, so that roll has been used.

Round 3 action
Alright, no more playing nice. Realizing that there doesn't seem to be peaceful solution to this situation, or that the gillmen are going to stop to discuss things, Crar resorts to his magic. Pointing a finger at the woman with the artifact, a bolt of electricity arcs towards her.

Use lightning arc domain ability, ranged attack to hit for electricity damage. If she's still beside me, then I draw an a.o.o., but as I'm end of the initiative order I'm assuming she'll either have moved away by that point or attacked me and laid me out flat. :)

For a move action will attempt to keep 10ft from any remaining gillmen, to zap them as needed.

Targ makes every effort to get to the far side of the gillman cutting off his retreat, but as he tries to pass him, the gillman stabs at the half-orc with his spear, but with the spear being long and unwieldy he finds it difficult to control, Spear AoO 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 2 - 4 = 12 damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2 as the tip of the spear looses a splinter from the wooden decking.

Latharel dazzled by the light, he is dazed and seems unable to make a decision what to do next, the indecision leaves him standing still where he is.

The barwoman seems undecided what to do next as though waiting for her friend to make a decision. delays until the other gillman has her turn.

Meanwhile, Bedmyr gives up trying to catch up with his foes and dropping his battle axe, moves into space, drawing his pistol as he goes. Once he has a clear shot at the woman, he calls out, "Surrender now, we have you." With that he shoots at the barwoman. Pistol attack 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18 (point blank) damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 The shot flies true catching the barwoman in the shoulder, blood begins to flow.

The gillman with the artifact, runs straight across the pier, falling down into the water and swims under the bar out of sight. Withdraw action from Targ, as Crar is not armed he gets no AoO, unless I'm mistaken, in which case he can have an AoO.

The barwoman, cursing the pathfinders, speaks arcane words as a brown oily substance seems to come out of the wood under Targ's feet. Cast Grease Reflex Save DC13 or fall prone. As the last of the substance bubbles up she too falls down into the water and swims under the tavern and out of sight.

Crar and Lillia can still do something this round, but as the gillmen have swim speed, I think the combat has probably finished, unless you want to try and get them in the water?

Doesn't Targ get an AoO? With withdraw only the first square is not considered threatened, he moves into a second threatened square, and then away, this should trigger one.

Crar does not have a weapon in hand at the moment, so doesn't get an a.o.o. Still would like to attempt to get gillwoman with lightning arc if possible. Will move to square R8 at edge of pier (hope that's the correct side) and try to zap woman with artifact. Hope I can use the same roll as before, are there any additional penalties/bonuses for trying to hit the woman in the water?

OK, Targ, damage on woman noted.
Concentration check, DC=11, then you can have a shot with the arc. As you have to dangle over the pier to look under the tavern. Will treat as splash weapon, so you might damage both gillwomen.

Alrighty then. Remember the days when Concentration was a separate skill of its own? I like this system better. 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 I wondered how well electricity and water mixed in the Pathfinder system.

Oooh, think Crar just sneaked by there with that roll!

Crar's hands point at the gillmen swimming away and looses a loud silver crackling line of electricity towards the gillmen. it hits the gillman in the back, and flashes and arcs between both swimmers and the water, blackening and burning their skin, an acrid smell begins to seep back towards Crar. First one then the other sink below the water's surface, taking the artifact with them.

"Whoa! Didn't think that would work so well." Crar, glances quickly at the others, then dives into the water, trying to swim down to get the artifact.

Umm, is this sensible? I'm not sure myself, but hey ho.

Swim check to try to dive down and get the artifact, prying it out of the gillwomen's hands if need be.

I don't have my books on me at the moment, but my Con is 10 so I think I can hold my breath for 10 rounds. I've got some family things on over the next couple days, should be back posting on Thursday, NPC Crar if you need to in the meantime.

This likely takes 2-3 rounds. But like to have a rope available. Not a great swimmer either.

I was going to wait for Lillia, but might as well continue.

Crar jumps into the water, but the cold of the winter sea shocks his body into inaction. It's all he can do to keep his head above water, as his heart pounds and beats quickly in his chest. Targ finds himself slipping over in a black slick substance underfoot, until he is able to crawl out of the greasy area and move to the edge of the pier seeing Crar as he swims under the tavern in pursuit of gilmen. He dives down, where he saw the gillmen sink, but to his astonishment only one body is there. The artifact and the gillman who's magic started the fight are nowhere to be seen. Nester eventually comes over, once the web spell had dissipated, he shrugs, "It would seem you have done your duty, although we have lost Dreng's item and exchanged it for a load of trash. I am sorry, but I didn't recognize the forgery, until it was too late. I think we should return and tell Dreng of what has happened."

The bar maid, (gillman transmuter), although injured by the arc of electricity sank following after her dead friend holding the artifact. She retrieved the artifact and swam away underwater, whilst Crar dived in and swam to the place where the gillman was hit.

The patrons of the Tavern dazed and confused look around the tavern and quickly leave, muddled conversations and looking back at you suspiciously. "Who where those people, is it their fault? Do we tell the watch?" are questions heard by those leaving.

So what you gonna do? How you gonna find the embassy?
