Tanner is just about to open his mouth in appreciation of the sea shanty, when Crar suddenly signals his leave and goes to the bar with his companions, The old fish smelling man shrugs his shoulders, before berating the group of young men, "That's how a sea shanty goes, see that's how its done. Go home to your mother's piney and learn them girlish songs she sings, is all you can do!" he stalks off and slumps in the corner, his pipe in his mouth, the smoke rises with his breath as it escapes his lips. His eyes close, the drink having damped his mind. The young men just laugh and chatter amongst themselves as he goes, some calling after "Mad 'ole Tanner, the sea 'll get you some day."

The half-orc looks bemused by the haggling company, until his eyes beam and three gold pieces are passed across to him. At which he doffs his fringe to the elf, "Be a pleasure m'lud, if I offended any of your servants I apologise." as he bows his head once again. "Follow me sir, I'll take you up and do you want food in your room? Though we only have few wholesome morsels this late in the day, some pheasant pie, I could warm it up." He bows and calls his serving girls to look after the bar whilst he's gone calling to his wife to heat the kitchens.

As he passes the rest of you, he looks at you with no great favor and simply says, "I'll show you yours in a moment." Latharel you get the best room in the house, no one else is brought there by the barman.

Moments later he returns and the rest of you are taken to a couple of comfortable rooms, of higher quality than the normal common rooms you have stayed in previously. "Your food, a fine stew, will be waiting for you downstairs in 15 minutes." and the half-orc leaves you to your own devices.

Nothing untoward happens during the night, so if you want to ask the barman or anyone else anything you can do between now and the time the meal arrives. Tanner is drunk and well.....

Hmm, can I kill the half-orc for his impertinence? ;)

Bedmyr makes a mental note to advise fellow Pathfinders to avoid this particular tavern, and then goes through his nightly routine of cleaning his pistol.

I'm just thinking how does the Gunsmithing benefit work in Society games? Do I just spend 300gp at the end of the module?

Targ will talk to the barman, about options to cross over, who owns a boat, and who would be willing to take the group along.

Caught up in the group's discussions with the barman, Crar loses his conversation with the salty Tanner. He hands over what coins are needed for room that has been provided, and quite quickly settles down to rest.

No further actions from me, happy to forward along to the next day.

The barman, feels empathy for the half-orc in the party, he smiles and rubs his chin, thinking! "Well, your master was talking to mad old Tanner, he's a strange 'un and no mistake, him and his old pipe. Never seen his boat, they says he's as mad on the water as out, but always seems to come back with a catch. I'm sure he smokes the clouds when they come, never seen him without his pipe." he muses and looks to the ceiling, his mind in thought.

"'Corse the other two were in here tonight too, there's that woman, Darice Sumore, though she can be a bit grouchy at times and the halfling we call Small Otti, though he's not small at all for a halfling, well rounded fills his fine clothes to the full." he laughs at his joke.

The bar man leans over to Targ and Latharel in hushed tones, says " Darice never knew her father, and many villagers whisper that he was a member of the Pathfinder Society. She resents never knowing her father and some say she longingly caresses the trinket he left behind for her."

"Small Otti, the halfling, values his coin, for he has many mouths to
feed—most importantly, his own. He has a weakness for fine food and drink, and any deal with him is made sweeter if food is involved."

"Tanner’s skill at sea is unmatched, but so is his lunacy; take a boat ride with him and you might ride straight into a squall. Some whisper that Tanner is not actually crazy, but no one is brave enough to find out."

"They'll probably be in here tomorrow for a drink and some grub, or if they're off in their ships the harbour first thing in the morning."

I don't think we should discount her until we have at least had an opportunity to meet the woman."

The next morning you are awoken early, as per your instructions and wander down to the harbour area. Several ships are preparing for journey, expecting to cast off later that day. The smell of the sea is fresh in the air, as the breeze sweeps in cold and biting from the sea, whose menace can be seen outside the calm waters of the habour itself. The grey clouds scud quickly across the sky, darkening the day, shutting out the rays of the sun from penetrating through, today is a throwback to those cold winter days. Men and other races, blow on their hands as the manhandle rope and cargo nets. They carry sacks and crates from the warehouses, great cavernous building with gaping doors open, a hive of activity, to-ing and fro-ing as if the harbour is a live and real creature in its own right.

To the right you see the surly woman you saw in the Mermaid's Rest the night before, the one you heard called Darice. She is aboard her vessel on the bridge helping in the loading of a cargo of boxes and sacks.

To the left on the harbour front you see the small finely dressed halfling, directing his men in the preparations of his ship. He shouts about the place, yet does no actual labour himself. You remember Small Otti, who last night dined on the Mermaid's best food with a companion halfling, she is nowhere to be seen.

There is no sign of mad Tanner.

Diplomacy rolls if you talk/negotiate with either of the two captains or crew.
If you bring any gifts or other things to help barter, just let me know.
If you want to talk amongst yourselves to detemine your course of action please do, but whoever starts negotiations with an NPC, will be the first to roll for that NPC's interaction with the group.

Sorry; I tried to post yesterday, but the Pathfinder Online kickstarter, and the RPG superstar seem to have combined to break the site.

"Good morning, sir." Lillia says, keeping a distance so as to avoid looming over the rotund halfling, "Would i be right in guessing that you are the one people call Small Otti? We hear that you run a good reliable ship."

"My name is Lillia, and these are my companions, Targ, Crar, Bedmyr, and Latharel." She indicates each in turn, "We were hoping that we might book passage with you on your next voyage, not too much of a detour for you I hope; just out to Escadar. And we'd be willing to compensate you for your time, of course, or even work for our passage, if you prefer... I've just been on a trip with these gentlemen cooking for me, and the things they can do with a rabbit and a few leaves!"

Small Otti, almost falls backward in shock and amazement, "Landlubers wanting to work a crossing....ha,ha,ha,...." He laughs at your suggestion. "There ain't no ship in this port that offers such a luxurious ride aboard. To get anywhere on the sea costs gold, you know. These aren't some pleasure cruise on some small lake in the park. This is the sea, where the waters can turn from benign and gentle friend into a wild and lashing dangerous beast, at just a turn of the weather. So if you'd like to dig into your pockets for 55gps each, then we can talk about providing you with room aboard, but nothing less mind you."

Targ appears with his bottle of finest dwarfven ale, with a heavy color and as complex as a fine wine in taste and nose. He offers Small Otti, the bottle, "Perhaps you'd discuss this over a drink?" he asks the halfling, smiling at him as best an half-orc can.

It takes 10 minutes or so or negotiating, but as the fine drink, loosens Otti's mind to offers of some fine food, to be brought aboard for the trip, he mellows and after several offers and counter offers he concludes, "Well, it seems we're almost old friends now and I know its cutting off my nose to spite my face, I'll take you for 15gps. I know I shouldn't but you're my friends now." He stops talking, as his face freezes, as the realization of the price he offered dawns on him. You hear a reluctance in his voice as he says "So you agree then? 15gps and you'll bring some fine food for a good lunch on board. Yes?"

"Be here in 2 hours time, we leave on the tide at 9am."

If you agree to this take 15gps for the trip and 1 gp for fine food off your character sheets. Discussion shortened to make it easier for pbp.

Small Otti takes the money, with a look that pleads for a little more. "Thank you, you contribution is appreciated, I hope your voyage is a pleasant one. It should take about 12 hours to cross, but if we are lucky and the currents and winds are with us, it could be less." he rubs his hands as he fingers the coins. He takes you to a small guests cabin close to his captain's cabin. "This is yours and of course up on deck too, if you'd like to let me have your fine food, we'll eat in my cabin. There's more room than here, you want to relax, please do."

The ship leaves the harbor, a fine days sailing is promised. The crew seem relaxed, the cargo well stacked, the sea blue under a fine sky and a good wind.

Nester sits in your cabin, "So what's the plan when we get to Escadar?" he asks.

The ship speeds on with fair weather and favourable currents, arriving early at about 7pm. Once ashore Nester pays a silver piece to a lad to inform the Gillman's Embassy of their arrival. He and you cross the quay to the waterfront tavern, The Grindylow's Goblet.
The sounds of a busy tavern echo off the wooden walls of this unusual building. Resting precariously over Escadar’s harbor, the Grindylow’s Goblet offers an unequaled view of the water. In the bar’s center, a thick glass aquarium presents a striking display. Within the tank, a coral statue of a goblin with the lower body of an octopus hosts a school of colorful fish that flit about the nooks and crannies of its tentacles.

Thick wooden planks support the tavern floor as it stretches out into the harbor, offering a splendid vista of Escadar’s harbor. Wooden walls and doors make up the tavern’s construction, and several torches fill sconces that cast the tavern in normal illumination. At the tavern’s heart rests a 15-foot-by-15-foot aquarium full of clear water. The bottom of the aquarium is also made of glass, and offers a view of the harbor waters.

Two human servers busily provide food and drink to the tavern’s half-dozen patrons, and a striking woman tends the bar.

One by one the party enter the tavern, Targ and Lillia are first. Targ finds a quiet spot at the bar and sits down on a stool, (Q,25). The barmaid quickly moves to them bringing two pots of foaming ale, the colour of chestnuts. Lillia, leaves Targ at the bar as she goes and stands by the aquarium (O,24), watching the attractive silver fish as they swim by under the tavern. The striking and attractive barmaid engages Targ in polite conversation as is usual , "Not seen you in here before, is this your first time in Escadar? How have you found it so far? When did you arrive? from where? What are you going to be doing here? How long are you staying? Do you need a accommodation for the night? A meal?" All the normal questions a barmaid would ask to make conversation and a customer welcome at the bar.

A few minutes later, Crar and Latharel enter, stand by the doorway and look across the bar. As they take it all in, a pretty young woman carrying a tray walks across to greet them. Seeing Crar's reaction as he came in, she says, "Evening gentlemen, can I get you a drink? Follow me, I see you prefer your privacy, I will find you a quiet table." She beckons you to follow her to a quiet table. Table at H,14

Only a few seconds later, Nester and Bedmyr enter together, taking the large table, with a view of the entrance (Bedmyr J,21; Nester L,21)and ordering a drink. When one of the serving girls arrives Bedmyr as usual asks for the best ale the house has to offer, hoping against hope it might be to a dwarven recipe. Nester himself is content with some ruby red wine.

All is quiet, as people come and go, several people and a couple of gillmen arrive and leave, after taking refreshments. Time passes, 15 minutes have gone by...
