Emil Torquemada |
The uneasyness of the Svarog's cleric let a bitter taste in Emil's mouth. He miss the sense of belonging to something bigger than himself even if he can not find the words to express it.
Since neither the sheriff nor the town's priest seems to want us around I supposed we could gather some information about our surroundings. Maybe we will have more luck in the next village. he says looking at the endless sea.
Drett |
"Our thanks again for your help, Vladimir. I feel more exhausted that I thought. We really need some rest."
"As for leaving ... well ... I want to find those who throw us in the sea but I don't even know where to start."
Drett turns to Lionel, Aliwah, Emil and Aphrodite: "How about staying some more days ? To restore our strength. To search the beach for some clues. To question the villagers. To learn about the region."
Then back to Vladimir: "And to try to repay you for everything you've done for us. We could have been freezing to death on this beach if it wasn't for you."
Lionel Dauphin |
Lionel replies to Drett "Yes I'll be fine with that. I think it will give us a good headstart into whatever we choose to do. Though finding out why we got thrown in the sea will be a long term goal I think. After all we have the chance to live, let us live for a bit, sooner or later in our future travels we might stumble upon what we're looking for. Here's hoping. Lionel smiles.
I have a gut feeling, that whomever threw us in the ocean or tried to kill every one of those people will be eventually come looking for us. Trouble is bound to come our way at some point. I hope we're away from this village before that happens.
Lionel Dauphin |
I'm ready to move on back to the village
So, checklist, we need to know more about this area, rest up a bit while we do, look around for some work if any is to be had, possibly get something to defend ourselves with if this is a particularly hostile area and try to be happy through all of this. I think I can do that, with strangers like me I'm sure we can do it.
Lionel calls Mint over and starts heading back with Emil.
Aliwah |
Sorry that I've been quiet this week: been rather out of it with sickness.
Aliwah nods in agreement, moving to follow the rest of the group back to Vladimir's cabin. She tries to stay upbeat and positive at the somewhat grim situation: "I'm sure we'll find something to do. We all have our heads, and no serious injuries. We're alive and walking, that's something." She smiles at each in turn: a flash of white teeth in her flat, golden face.

No worries.
You head back to vladimir's home. He spends some time making sure you are settled and goes out to see about supper.
After a week and a half you feel back to your full strength. The sheriff drops by every once in a while to make sure of vladimir's health and see how you are progressing.
On the day you feel at full strength Vladimir offers to drop you off at the village proper. He is making a trip with his boys to sell off the "weird things" he's picked off the beach in the city about a week's journey away. This will leave you to fend for yourselves but he supposes with the house to yourselves you should be fine if you can manage to get some food. There's enough bread, vegetables, and dried fish to keep you for about three days. Six if you stretch it.
Beyond the food there is little else to the home in terms of equipment. 3 coils of 50ft rope three fishing nets that have not been used in a logn time but are otherwise in fine shape. Plenty of fishing gear, and 2 shortspears. Valdimir takes the one crossbow he owns for protection on the road.
Aliwah |
Not sure if this came up, but do we know how to get to the village from Vladimir's hut?
Aliwah eyes the spears warily. "It would be good to see what these people are like, and show that we're not anything to be scared of - washing up on the shore like that. I don't know how well I'd be able to fish or hunt or anything either."
Lionel Dauphin |
"So how bout this for a plan guys." Motioning to the others. "We go talk to Vladmir's buyer, he might have a thing or two, then go find a tavern or a place of work. Or talk to some of the locals to see if we can make some money someplace? Sound good?" Lionel then expectantly waits for a reply from the group.
Drett |
"Cool down Lionel. Vladimir said that the buyer is at a city, a week of travel from here. Not at the nearby village. If we follow him to the city, we are leaving the beach and the village for good. Not sure I will return: too many bad memories here."
A pity that's the only ones I have. Drett looks to the others and smiles: Well, that's not true. I got some good memories too. This last week with those fellows is one of them.
"Whatever you decide I will follow. I could stay here. Help Vladimir or find a job in the village. But, if I am alone, it won't help me to find what happened to us. Besides, the sheriff's scrutiny makes me nervous."
And I will miss your company. For sure. Lionel's enthusiasm, Aliwah's spontaneity and Emil's wisdom makes me feel good and helped me forget the loss of everything I had.
"But I am not sure Vladimir can provides us with food for the journey. Maybe we should stop at the village first. And catch Vladimir later. Or we could hunt during the trip. You know the road to the city, Vladimir, what do you think?"
Aliwah |
"I think we should stay. We have to figure out what we were: I mean, I assume we had lives before. Emil, you remembered holy words that you'd learned before all of this," she gestures animatedly at the surroundings. "And Lionel, you have Mint. There must be other skills that we all have - not forgotten, just lost. I say we stay here a time, and all just try things, maybe we'll remember something worth coin to someone."
Lionel Dauphin |
"No money is the problem this is why I suggested some work in the city. However, we can find something around here sure, whichever feels safer for all of us. Vladmir is there any other villages on the way that we might pick up some work. I want to do something, I mean being on by butt for a week is not very productive."
Lionel ponders for a moment. Then leans over to Aliwah and whispers something in her ear.
"I do have other abilities, I'm just not sure what people here think of magic. Also I can't cast much in the way of magic without components, I've tried, I can however summon more than just Mint. I hope to be able to use my abilities more but probably away from here. I really don't want to draw more attention to this village, they have enough trouble as is."
Lionel then shrugs.
Drett |
"I say we stay here a time, and all just try things, maybe we'll remember something worth coin to someone."
Drett answers to Aliwah: "I think I could hunt. In fact, when I look at the woods around, I know that I like hunting, woods and wilderness. When I look the spears in the corner, I know that I could use them. I know that I know how to use them."
TarkXT |
"Maybe work as farm hand? Or I am thinking perhaps you help priest make potion? I am not really keeping up much with who needs help. Too many problems of my own." Vladimir indicates with a head gesture towards his two sons. "Is up to you. I take you to city or drop you off in village."
Sorry bout that just worked up to a point wher eI can update all my games comfortably.
TarkXT |
Valdimir gives you a ride to the village on his cart for a bit. The sack of parts kept near the front and disguised by several sacks of unused fishing gear.
Until now you avoided coming into the village proper as you could not easily make the two mile walk before now. As vladimir wishes you luck and drives off you get a good look at your surroundings at last. Two buildings are immediately prominent in this part of the village. Namely the all important blacksmith and the equally important church. There is a general store here as well. But beyond that there's hardly a person here besides a cart similar to vladimir's pulled up to the general store. The black smith's chimney bellows black smoke and within you can hear the distinctive ringing of metal being shaped. It's mid spring and the air is warm and wet with the distinctive scent of the sea still hanging in the air despite its distance from you. The church's doors are swung wide open as an invitation to the faithful.
Did any of you decide to borrow any of vladimir's equipment?
Lionel Dauphin |
Lionel would've asked for one of the 50ft ropes and some fishing equipment if Vladimir was willing to part with them.
Lionel thanks Vladimir for his help and wishes that they might meet again one day. Lionel quickly says to his compatriots that he will have a small wander around the village and will be back in a few hours. He boldly sets off trying to gather a bit of local knowledge, chatting to passers by and trying to be friendly. Mostly trying to figure out what kind of work could be hand in the surrounding area.
Basically I would like to make a normal Gather information check.
Diplomacy (gather info): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Time needed to complete (hours): 1d4 ⇒ 1
Drett |
Drett nodes to Lionel when he goes to explore the village. He will gather information more easily alone than in a group.
"If I am to get a job, it will probably something requiring strength. (I'm not that good at singing or sewing.) I should check the blacksmith. But, better wait for Lionel. If there is any opportunity I'm sure he will find better than us.
So? What do we do till Lionel's back? Emil, how about going to the church first? We could thanks again the priest for his help on the beach.
Aliwah ? Coming with us?"
Aliwah |
Aliwah glances around with wide eyes, taking the sight of the village in. "He's a priest, so lots of people talk to him, right? Maybe he'll know who needs a hand around the place. That sounds good."
You've mentioned three buildings, what's the rest of the village like? How many other buildings are there?
TarkXT |
That's it. Welcome to downtown. :D
Lionel spends a bit of time talking to passer by's and otherwise being a gregarious and friendly fellow. He finds the people wary and cuatious as he is for all intents and purposes a total stranger in a small town. He finds out that there is little work to be had. At least steady work. But he does find that people do need a favor or two. Roofs that need patching, gardens that need weeding, seashells that they wanted collected from shore. Small works and handy jobs that's honest toil.
If you want to talk to anyone in the buildings themselves you'll have to let me know which and roleplay it out.
Emil Torquemada |
Seeing his friends borrow Vladmir's gear Emil convince himself he will somehow manage to pay the man back in the future and pick up the other shortspear.
As they arrive in town he looks at everything wildeyed. The concept of a village sounds familiar but its the first human settlement that he has ever actually seeing in his known life. After the inicial shock he agrees with the others.
Yes, that is a good idea, we could try the church. he says while walking in that direction.
TarkXT |
Emil heads within the church and finds a simple affair. The benches are unpolished but smoothed down from years or perhaps even decades of use and looks relatively comfortable. The walls are freshly painted white and the windows while not actual stained glass are painted with a thin paint that allows the light to shine through the images of various important figures of the covenant. The altar itself is simple with a red cloth thornw over a table. On it is an alms box sitting in front of a golden (but most likely brass)statuette of an angel. Rough paintings of all the venerates sit behind the altar. Two small sets of stairs lead to the upper floor of the church.
A small dark haired girl perhaps no older than 13 looks up from her prayer and turns. Clearing her throat and blinking at the apparent newcomers she regards you and speaks a clearly rehearsed speech. "Welcome new faithful to the humble church of Faishensgard. I am Helga acolyte of the humble priest here. If you need any blessings, marriages, or magical healing you may find him at the blacksmiths during the hours between dawn and mid afternoon where he meditates over hammer and anvil about the complexities of human ex...ex...." She struggles with the word the enunciates it very carefully. "Ig. Zis. Dance."
She smiles a broad gap toothed smile as if a student to a teacher.
Aliwah |
Aliwah smiles warmly at the young girl: "Thank-you, you're very smart, knowing all that." She pauses for a moment, letting her gaze wander about the building until returning to the girl. "I like this place: it's bright. So, you say the priest is the blacksmith? Also, I'm sorry, but I've only recently arrived here: is Faishensgard the name of this village, or one of them?" she waves towards the general vicinity of the paintings behind the alter.
Drett |
"At least that's what it used to be called before the fish went away."
Hum... That's why Vladimir no more even tries to catch fish ....
The fish went away? Why would they go and do a thing like that?
... and that is a good question. Something strange is amiss here.
TarkXT |
The girl shrufs. "Dunno. Papa says one day they simply stopped biting and never came back. After that something happened that pap doesn't talk about and they left the village by the water and moved it away from the sea."
@Lionel:
The general store is about how one might expect such things. There is a small counter where a wizened old man is snoozing. All around there are bags of rather basic things such as tobbacco, cotton, and rope. Various trade goods and animal feed bags and barrels over the walls and along the wall behind the store owner is a line of three unstrung crossbows hung up and neglected.
The thin old man behind the counter looks relatively ancient and seems alive through sheer stubborn force of will rather than any secret that might be glened from his diet. His gnarled and heavily calloused hands are clasped in front of him as he sits in his old wooden chair behind the counter. His white beard comes down like a snowy cascade down his chest and over his belly. He snores loudly.
