Male Human Summoner 1

Lionel curiosity is piqued a bit by the Gevet across from him, he could have sworn he's seen some before but if he has, he doesn't remember. "So, those horns of yours, do you feel them at all? I can't imagine having any thing here." He slowly moves his hand in front of his forehead, in the sort of shape that would place horns there.

Lionel looks over at Aphrodite who has been silent for much of the trip, he leans over and nudges her side with his elbow. "You are thinking of bad things again aren't you? Join in a bit of the conversation at least, you might discover something. Or maybe a joke or two to lighten the mood?"

Female Human Bard

Breaking from her thoughts, Aphrodite listened to Lionel, thinking he meant for her to tell a joke,

"Joke?"

She tries to tell a joke, but before works come out of her mouth she shook her head,

"I, how about I sing instead."

Perform Singing:1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17

It was a good performance, but not her best, probably because she didn't prepare to sing.

I really wish she is singing "On The Road Again" since we're on the road =p

Male Human Summoner 1

"Ah there we go, that's something, you can sing. Good discovery that, it's always beneficial to have someone with a good voice along. So maybe you sung songs round the campfire for us when we knew each other, maybe, wonderful tales spun for us to enjoy. See that's fun isn't it?" He pauses for a bit then ponders.

"Now don't try to remember those tales, as you probably can't. So instead let's get some wind behind our sails and one day you'll be singing about all of us here. Wouldn't that be something?" He smiles at her, trying to be as cheery as he can.

Hopefully that'll get her spirits up, I hope Emil has gotten over the dead bodies thing too. Hard to get over really... Lionel thinks back to all the bodies. Eeesh, I could have been one of those. Glad I wasn't.

Lionel gives Emil a light punch on his arm. "How you holding up there my friend? Doing better?"

Male Orc Expert 5

Vladimir remains mostly silent through the trip. And though Lionel and Aphrodite seem filled with enough energy to contemplate their mutual predicament the rest are weary enough to hold onto the energy saving wealth of their silence as well as the warmth of their blankets. You quickly guess that it was late mornin when you were discovered as the fog and mists from earlier clear up and the sun shines a bit more through the tall trees. The Arman terrain here is very rocky with massive ancient boulders jutting from the undergrowth and dead leaves as tiny fortresses in the forest. Eventually you find yourselves in a large clearing where many of the trees have been cleared out on one of the only flat areas you have seen and in its place are fields where tiny sprouts hve begun forming.

Know Nature DC 14:
It appears to be a vegetable garden. Unfortunately it seems many of the sprouts have already started to wilt and die and those who look as if they might live will grow up weak and bear little in the way of food.

In the middle of this clearing is a squat log house where Valdimir ushers you in as his sons take care of the donkeys. He prepares a small fire while all of you sit about on rough and itchy woolen pillows and splintery wooden chairs that serve as furniture. The inside of the hut is as poor as its outside and despite vladimirs claim as a fisherman the fishing gear sitting in one lonely corner is dusty and neglected. However what catches your eye is a sack in the corner. Within you see things that you first think are the remains of caught crabs or lobsters but the parts in question are far too large to belong to any shellfish you can imagine and the slick blackness of the parts reminds you more of an ant or a wasp than any sea creature.

The warm sensation from the rough blanket seems to but Emil's uneasiness to rest for the time being. The wagon's rocking motion do the rest and Emil falls asleep sitting where he is. His body is too tired to dream.

As the group arrives at the house the change in the horse's pace wakes him up. He looks around with sleepy but nquisiting eyes.

Lionel sits next the fire and is mesmerised by the flickering flame. He just waits for Vladimir to do what he wants as Vladimir has been ignoring Lionel for most of the trip, no point in trying to get his attention now.

Maybe if I was one of the girls. he thought.

Maybe then Vladimir would talk a little more. Then again maybe not, maybe this act of kindness has something further behind it. I don't know, maybe I should stop sulking.

Lionel chuckles to himself, then a friendly nose nuzzles his knee. Lionel turns to see Mint with a stick in her mouth.

"Not now girl, maybe later." Lionel ruffles mints ears a bit then tries to take the stick, she doesn't want to relinquish it. "Okay, I can play a little tug of war, but you're going to win you know that right?" He looks back at the fire while holding the stick in one hand trying to drag it out of Mint's mouth who is pulling back on it playfully like a puppy.

Female Human Bard

Aphrodite follow Vladimir and family into their humble house, as she sits down she saw the bag in the corner, curious and concern at what it is, she ask the man,

"What's in the bag?"

Sense Motive:1d20 - 2 ⇒ (1) - 2 = -1

Sense motive to see if he's lying about what's inside when he reply, well ain't that dandy, I believe every bit of it even if he tells me that the bag doesn't exist and it's all in my head.

Female Gevet Bard 1

Aliwah tentatively reaches up and strokes one of the horns that crown her head. "It feels like...a finger in a shell. It can touch and feel, but its senses are distant."

She lapses into silence for the remainder of the journey, lost in thought. Upon entering the old man's house, she brightens up again: glancing around with open curiousity at the surroundings. Tucking herself into a rickety chair, she giggles softly at Lionel and his wolf. "How come you have Mint?" she asks him. She seems like a good friend. Glad you didn't forget her." Her mouth turns sad at the last thought. I wonder if there were people who were important to me. Friends? Family? I can't remember.

Male Human Summoner 1

"Honestly? I have no idea, when I was on the beach she felt like a friend I always had that was nearby. So I called for her and she came running." Lionel momentarily takes his hand off the stick and presses his palm against Mint's nose. She sits down with the stick still in her mouth and wagging her tail excitedly.

"However, I don't know much about her beyond her name and that she's probably been with me for a while. How bout you Mint do you remember?." She lies down whining and puts her front paws over her nose. "I'm going to take that as a no. Least she's understanding I suppose." Lionel let's out a chuckle. He looks over to Aliwah and has only just realised that she seems to be upset or at least trying to feign a bit of happiness. Again he tries to joke around to brighten up the dreary place they are in.

"Hey, maybe those horns are for head butting, we could have a contest.. see who would win, you or Mint?" Mint just raises her head up off the ground and makes a confused growl. Then nips at Lionel's ankles. "Hey Hey, I was joking, stop that, I need those." Lionel looks down to see Mint grabbing hold of the cloth around Lionel's waist in her mouth growling. "Don't you start..."

Emil sits down in silence looking around his companions and the surroundings. Seeing the contents of the sack arouse his curiosity. He waits for the fisherman to answer Aphrodite's question.

Drett remains silent in the cart. He appreciates the efforts of Lionel to lighten the mood. Hearing the others talking and joking like that helps to raise his spirits and tempers the strangeness of the situation. And Aphrodite's song is like a soothing balm to his apprehensions.

During the rest of the trip, Drett scans the forest, looking for any animal or animal track near the lane. The fisherman (let's call him Vladimir, but he never told his name, did he ?) seems poor and 5 hungry castaways (6 with the blue wolf) could drain his food storage quickly. If he could hunt some game in these woods ...

Looking for game:

Perception: 1d20 +0(ranks) +1(Wis) ⇒ 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Drett can't see anything right now. He then tries to assess opportunities of hunting.
Survival: 1d20 +1(ranks) +1(Wis) +3(class skill) ⇒ 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Is there any easy game to be found in this kind of forest ?

Well, he would first need some weapon to hunt large game or at least some basic materials to build simple traps. So hunting will have to wait.

When the cart stops in the clearing, Drett enters the hut after the others, without even looking at the plantations.

As soon as he notices them, Drett is puzzled by the strange remains in the sack. While Lionel discusses with Mint and Aliwah, he nears the sack to examine the remains (without touching them). When Aphrodite asks Vladimir about the sack, he turns to the fisherman with inquiring eyes ...

Male Orc Expert 5

Sorry about that. I meant to ahve him introduce himself let's say for the moment Vladimir did.

@Drett: There does seem to be some game. But not much. Small game such as rabbits and squirrels should pose no problem.

"Eh, things that wash up from Ablis on beach sometimes. Many years fishing in waters around these parts and now no fish. But things wash up now. Many thing. No money from fish so make money from thing. Can't eat it. Wouldn't want to try anyway."

He continues rambling on for quite a while on many things. Hsi boys tend to chores around the farm while Vladimir starts making a lean but filling stew. You learn that his children are Dmitri and Mikael the youngest and oldest respectively. You learn that the village has a magistrate who oversees the rule of the town proper and a sheriff which enforces the laws. However both do incredibly little as very little actually happens that's worth their attention. He describes the sheriff as an old and tough busy body whom Vladimir says was an inquisitor of the church before he was injured in some kind of battle with a demon that prevented him from continuing on in his duties.

He points out that theres a well behind the house if you wish to wash off the sand and he will look about getting you clothes. Before long he's serving you bowls of potato, mushroom, and barley stew

Sense Motive 13:
One item of note you've noticed Valdimir avoiding is the subject of his boys mother.

No problem, Tark. I was just asking to be sure I did not miss something. At first, I wondered if the man was deliberately trying to hide his name. So, let's say he introduced himself in the cart during the trip.

Before the stew is served, Drett turns to Lionel and Emil: "I'll go fetch some water from the well for the ladies. We could wash outside." To Vladimir: "Do you have some buckets?"

After a quick wash (a bucket poured on his head), Drett wraps again in his blanket and waits for the ladies to finish before going back in the hut.

He doesn't think Vladimir will have any clothes able to fit his frame, so he would probably have to keep the blanket strapped around his shoulders and go bare footed. He would feel lucky if only he can have some trousers and a cap.

He thanks the fisherman for whatever clothes he could provide. And for the lunch too: Drett did not realized he was so hungry and this simple stew seems delicious.

"Vladimir, I have nothing to repay you for your help and for the clothes. But I could do something for the next meal. Do you mind if I take some of your old fishing gear? I could use the net and hooks to make some rudimentary tools. And catch small animals in the woods. Unless you have some spear or a bow I can borrow?"

Hunt small game with improvised tools:

If allowed to use the fishing gear, Drett spends some time outside tracking rabbits.
Survival: 1d20 +1(ranks) +1(Wis) +3(class skill) ⇒ 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
"I am lucky. Seems there's a whole tribe of rabbits in this hole. Let's put the net at what I think is the main exit, then start some fire at the other exits, and when the smoke will go inside ..."

Sense Motive about the boys' mother:
Sense Motive: 1d20 +1(Wis) ⇒ 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Drett did not notice anything.

Edit:
Edit: I changed the order of the 2 dice rolls for Survival and Sens Motive, because in the preview I got a natural 20 on the survival check and wrote the rest of the message based on that. But the value changed to 7 when I decided to first post a brief message about Vladimir's name and I did not noticed the change. Exchanging the 2 dice rolls gets me a roll of 19 for Survival that is compatible with what I got first and with the description.

Female Human Bard

I hope someone will try to open the sack to look inside it.

Sense Motive:1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17

"So what about your wife sir?"

Aphrodite said it as sincere as she could.

Male Human Summoner 1

Mint lets go of Lionel's cloth then runs over the bag, gets up and pokes her nose to look inside.

Mint's Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22

"Mint! ... Mint! Get Back here!" Lionel shouts out annoyed. After looking in the back Mint whines a little bit and drag her tail on the ground and walks back defeated to Lionel.

An image appears in Lionel's mind of whatever was found inside the bag.

Good girl.

Lionel makes Mint sit down near his chair as 'punishment' then replies to Drett.

"Sure we can wash outside, I don't particularly mind." Throughout the time he's outside washing off and changing Lionel makes sure to look away from all the other men outside. Then enters back in when Drett decides to.

Emil follow the rest of the man outside to wash the salt away.
If you decide to hunt some game later on and need some help let me know Mr Drett. It would be nice to repay our host's hospitality. And the woods felt...familiar.

Female Human Bard

Aphrodite waited for all the men to finish washing themselves, before approaching Aliwah and asked for company to do so themselves.

If Aliwah accepted:

Aphrodite and Aliwah went out the door and heads towards the well.
Aliwah used the bucket already provided by the well to pull some water up for Aphrodite, and kept a lookout for her. After Aphrodite done, she return the favour. Though Aphrodite cleaned her body, but there's still some grains of sand on her scalp inside her fairly thick brown hair, it'll take some time for her to fulling clear it.

If Aliwah decline:

Accepting that Aliwah wishes for her own privacy, Aphrodite went out the door and heads towards the well and used the bucket already provided by the well to pull some water up and washed herself. Though her body is clean, there's still some grains of sand on her scalp inside her fairly thick brown hair, it'll take some time for her to fulling clear it.

Male Orc Expert 5

At Aphrodite's inquiry he freezes for a moment and the room gets noticeably colder as his beaming face gazes out at somethign beyond the wall. Then he speaks.

"Many things wash up from Ablis. Not all of them dead. I bury her with her mother."

As the men come in he gives them clothes that are threadbare but serviceable and at least prevent you from having to constantly cover yourself. While the women simply get more mens clothes it does prevent the necessity of having to cover yourself.

As twilight starts to fall Vladimir tells Mikael to go into the village and fetch the sheriff after explaining it'll be unlikely for them to show back up until morning.

Just more of what I described. Bits of what look to be carapace that smell funny. Mint could not tell you what they are.

Female Gevet Bard 1

Aliwah accepts the woman's invitation, and follows her out to wash. "I'm Aliwah. I liked your singing on the cart. I felt like it would've reminded me of something...if I could remember what that something was."

She washes herslf eagerly in the cold well-water. "Water is so much nicer without the salt and dead fish and who-knows-what-else in it." After ruffling the water out of her short, dark hair, and drying herself well enough with the blanket, she wraps it around her once more and heads back towards the house to receive "new" clothes.

Female Human Bard

Aphrodite has been replying with either a smile or a nod towards Aliwah, and when she commenting on the sea, Aphrodite added,

"and dead carapace."

She look back up at Aliwah and gave a smile, it seem that she has lighten up her mood a lot more than earlier today.

Acting too fast ... Rewind:
I am not used to PbP and I am still trying to find the good pace. It seems to me that in my previous post I could have made Drett act to fast: washing, eating and hunting in one post without letting time for the others characters to act or interact is not fair play. As it seems every character is still washing, let's go back in time for a moment and split actions in several posts ...
After washing himself, Drett asks Vladimir the permission to use his old fishing gears to hunt.

Lionel stays indoors with Mint, trying to pass the time by doing things like flicking stone, continuing to play tug of war with the wolf and thinking about what happened all day trying to piece together everything.

After we talk to the sheriff, what do I do, I mean, I need a life again somehow. What am I good at, what kind of job can I get to earn some sort of living. Maybe a pet show or something? Nah, I don't think Mint would enjoy that. Hmmm, do magic users get any jobs around this place I wonder, probably not. I don't know.

Lionel holds onto his scalp and then falls backwards into lying down, staring up to the ceiling continuing to ponder.

Male Orc Expert 5

Just a note you literally just barely survived your ordeal (think statuses of exhausted, ability damage, etc.)activities such as hunting not only have a severe penalty but thwere is a chance of encountering somethign in the woods you can't possibly handle. That being said let me know if you're ready to move on.

I would suggest we wait for tomorow Mr Drett. Until at least we had a night's rest. Besides looking unconfortable we are unarmored.

When the twilight comes.
I do hope the sheriff has some answers...any answer.

I would say we move on.

"Hum. You're right Emil. That's wisdom. I did not realize that we are all exhausted. So let's have that night rest."

And let's move on ...

Female Gevet Bard 1

Aliwah settles down in a corner to rest, idly humming to herself.

Ready to move on.

Male Orc Expert 5

It's not a mysterious reason. You literally washed up on a beach after being battered, bruised and nearly drowned. And by the looks of the piles of bodies every where you were lucky to have survived. The only real mystery is how you got that way. I'm sorry if I was unclear on that.

You sleep like the dead. Dreamless and restorative but providing no more than that. You wake up feeling not so much refreshed as less exhausted.

Heal 12:
It may take several days for you to fully recover your strength.

You find yourselves alone in the small hut with the fire long since dead. Taking a quick peek outside you see Valdimir talking excitedly to another man. This man appears to be middle aged with a well honed paunch wrapped by a crimson sash with a club tucked in it along with some kind of other weapon along with a series of bags and pouches. It looks like some kind of crossbow without the bow but instead some kind of iron tube apparatus.

He is well groomed with his graying black hair tied into a simple ponytail and his beard trimmed and clean. A deep suspicion is in his eyes as Vladimir appears to be explaining yesterdays events. Vladimir's children are about and look to be trying to make themselves busy.

Sense Motive 14:
Vladimir appears intimidated by the man who seems to be quite skeptical of whatever he's saying.

Female Human Bard

Sense Motive:1d20 - 2 ⇒ (6) - 2 = 4

"Vladimir said he'll speak to the sheriff, perhaps that's the sheriff?"
Aphrodite thought to herself. Still feeling fairly tired, despite the rest, she sat herself down beside the door to the house, where she could still see the conversation between the man and Vladimir.

Drett wakes up. He winces when he tries to rise up.
Heal: 1d20 +0(ranks) +1(Wis) ⇒ 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
"Whole body still hurting ... I probably could use some more hours of rest."

He sees Aphrodite near a window. He manage to stand up and goes to the window. " 'Morning, miss." He looks outside and sees the 2 men speaking.
Sense Motive: 1d20 +1(Wis) ⇒ 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"Any idea who's that guy ?"

Female Human Bard

Aphrodite look up to acknowledge Drett as he greeted her.
"Nay, sir. I'm guessing it's the sheriff, that Vladimir promised he'll speak to regarding what happen yesterday. What do you think?"

Before she waited for an answer, Aphrodite look back towards the direction of the men.

Lionel scratches his head as he wakes up, he starts hearing the talk outside wondering what it could be but doesn't hear much before giving up.

"Morning Ditey, Morning Drett, you two feeling better?... What are you two looking at?"

Lionel peers over their shoulder seeing the two men outside. "Ah, I see"

Must be the sheriff he thought, then he just slumped down on the floor again and prepared the ritual to summon Mint as she disappeared the night prior. Since two of his associates were asleep and two were looking outside he thought this might be a good time.

He pause for some seconds then: "I wake up Emil and Aliwah now. Let us all be ready to meet the sheriff ..." He walks to his two still slumbering companions ...

Female Gevet Bard 1

Aliwah sits up, grumbling sleepily and rubbing her eyes. "Ow. I feel stiff as a driftwood plank." She then leans to peer with flat curiousity out the door at Vladimir and the other man talking:

Pointing her chin in the direction of the two men, Aphrodite replied to Lionel,

"Hey hey, did you sleep well?"

At the mention of greeting the sheriff ourself by Drett, Aphrodite stood up, she could feel that she hasn't regain all of the strength back yet, but she's getting there. She waited outside the door and ready to follow anyone who approach Vladimir, and the man who may or may not be the sheriff.

Male Human Summoner 1

"Slept like a brick, feel like one too, it's like my muscles forget then I'm alive... he he ... well it's only a little bit of pain worst should be over"

Lionel then while still seated on the ground lays his back on the now summoned Mint, who gives him an affectionate bark before letting him lay there.

male Human

After waking up Aliwah and Emil, Drett turns back to the door when he notices Mint. He stops and looks at Mint, then Lionel, then the door, then Mint again.

He shakes his head and exits the hut to follow Aphrodite. Seeing her just outside the door, he sends her an inquiring look and decides to stay with her at the door, waiting for Vladimir and the sheriff to end their discussion.

If the 2 men look in their direction, Drett simply bows his head to salute them.

Drett also looks the strange weapon of the man.
Did we ever seen that kind of weapon ? Don't know if a skill check is needed and what skill it would be.

Male Orc Expert 5

The two men turn to spot the group of you at the door and Vladimir nods meaningfully at the man. The man gives a stern gaze in your direction and a small hand gesture to Vladimir who who quickly but politely puts soem distance between himself and the man.

The man walks over to you hanging his thumbs in his waist band as he nods at you. "G'mornin. My names Aggripa Ivanson. I'm the sheriff of this area and the village's of it. Mind stepping into the house so's that we can have a chat?"

His voice is gruff and his expression stone cold. He does not appear overtly hostile as of yet.

Know Local 10, or Know Engineering 15:
The weapon at his belt appears to be a flintlock pistol a weapon of Arman design that's not too uncommon around these parts. While strictly controlled from leaving the borders and falling into foreign hands they still find themselves in civilian use when they can be gotten.

male Human

While the sheriff talks, Drett takes a quick glance at the strange weapon, but his baffled air shows clearly that he has no idea what it could be.

" 'Morning sheriff. My name's Drett. Here is Aphrodite."
Drett turns to Aphrodite waiting for her (or another inside the hut) to take the lead in the incoming discussion.

Heal: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
At the sound of Drett's voice Emil awakes. Hummm. I am sure i have been in worse shape before, if I could just remember when... He scratches his eyes and takes a minute to get his bearings.

Looking outside he examines the new strange man talking to Vladimir as his companions exit the room.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

Vladimir looks afraid, I am not sure what to make of this "sheriff". We should be carefull. he says to Lionel and Aliwah.

Female Human Bard

Aphrodite nods at the sheriff when Drett introduce her to him. And followed the sheriff inside the house for more explanation.

male Human

Drett follows the sheriff and Aphrodite inside the hut and stays by the door.
