Assailant #8 AoO short sword at Douena: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 10 -- miss

Douena is able to duck under the jab of #1 while she retrieves the wand. Although it's not a huge help, some of the wounds Pezock has taken close over as Douena touches him with the wand.

Ishirou Fortitude vs poison: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19 -- pass
Ishirou is now free of the poison.
Shokambe Fortitude vs poison: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 -- pass
Shokambe is now free of the poison.

"You need help?" a voice from the north says.

"No," another voice replies. "I've seen this spell before. I won't last long. You help out there."

A moment later, assailant #5 comes out of the north door, sees Makoa and moves to engage him (move to AW31).

Assailant #2 short sword at Mahjik: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 hit
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Assailant #2 punching dagger at Mahjik: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 -- miss

Assailant #4 punching dagger at Sasha: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Assailant #5 short sword at Makoa: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26 -- hit

Assailant #6 short sword at Pezock: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 12 -- miss
Assailant #6 punching dagger at Pezock: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 18 -- miss

Assailant #7 short sword at Pezock: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 28 -- hit, critical threat
Assailant #7 critical confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 -- confirmed
Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 6) + 4 = 16
Assailant #7 punching dagger at Pezock: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 3 -- miss

Assailant #8 short sword at Douena: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 60 -- miss
Assailant #8 punching dagger at Douena: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 36 -- miss

The assailants continue their attacks. #2 manages to strike Mahjik, while #4 turns his attention to Sasha and the door. He stabs her in the forearm with his punching dagger. #5 ploughs into Makoa. #6 continues to swing feebly at Pezock, but as the tengu dodges the attacks of #6, he suddenly cries out as #7 stabs him in the side. Pezock remains standing, but looks extremely hurt. He is now at 0 hp and disabled.

Next Up: Makoa, Lorenz, Sasha, Ishirou, Pezock, Jask, Alton, Mahjik, Shokambe, Young Girl, Urza (paralysed), Douena.

AC 20; HP 21/53

His life slowly ebbing away at the incessant onslaught, Mahjik shouts incoherently in frustration - then suddenly snaps back into control and forms a quick series of finger motions: a form of somatic mantra to focus concentration. Then before the would-be-assassin could react he punches twice - hoping to stun the enemy again.

Attack, stunning fist DC 18 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Male Human (Andoran) Fighter Lvl 5

Round 5: HP: 31/44 - AC/FF/T: 14/10/14 - No Armor.

Lorenz grimly keeps on with the attack, even though he is doing little more than flailing uselessly at the target.

Attack with flail: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Man, my rolls are so bad that even an aid would fail. Now I know how Joana feels with all her 1's!

Makoa shifts his position slightly (5-ft step to AX31) and lays into #5.

Makoa bite at #5: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 -- miss
Makoa claw 1 at #5: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Makoa claw 2 at #5: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13 -- miss

He gets in one good swipe with his claws across the man's face.

Lorenz continues to flail about with his flail. :)

Sasha rapier at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 2 = 23 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Sasha on the other hand, manages a minor hit on #4. With a grimace at the opening she's creating, she reaches for her kukri.

Assailant #4 AoO short sword at Sasha: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Seeing the opportunity, #4 stabs at Sasha, scraping her across the back of the shoulder.

"Jask is down!" you hear Ishirou shout suddenly. "And I'm tied up!"

"Getting to the window is easier said than done," Pezock grumbles at Douena.

Pezock sawtooth sabre at #6: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 93 -- hit

Pezock bite at #6: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 16 -- miss

The tengu swings at #6, catching the man's lower arm.

Alton Fly check to hover: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 -- success
Alton bite at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 + 2 = 23 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2

Alton, still flapping away at the window manages to get another bite in at #4.

Assailant #2 Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 -- success

Mahjik gets in two good hits on #2, but unfortunately is unable to stun the man again.

Looking weak, Shokambe begins to move and cautiously reaches for his mace.

Assailant #2 AoO short sword at Shokambe: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

#2 takes advantage of the opening and stabs Shokambe in the back.

Shokambe heavy mace at #2: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 -- hit
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Shokambe follows up by smashing his mace into the man's knee.

CURRENT EFFECTS:
Poison + Paralysis (Urza)
Bleed (Mahjik)
Shield of faith (Jask)

Mahjik and Makoa can hear the sound of the young girl's steps on the stairs until they reach the bottom. She does not come back up.

Doh! You're right. I completely forgot he was at 0.

Revised Pezock action

Pezock pulls back away from the attackers, moving around the corner of the bed to the southwest of the room. Withdraw to BA 32, taking an AoO from #8.

Assailant #8 AoO short sword at Pezock: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 9 -- miss

#8 tries to strike him as he moves past Douena, but the tengu is too quick. "Getting to a window is easier said than done," he grumbles.

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 3

Here's hoping #8 doesn't have Combat Reflexes.

"Then how about out the door?" she suggests, dropping her wand and reaching behind her to open it. Taking a chance that their assailant is still off-balance from his swipe at Pezock, she reaches out to let healing energy flow into the tengu from her fingers. "Desna strengthen you."

Free action: drop wand; Move action: open door; Standard action: convert returning weapon to cure moderate wounds on Pezock 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11

#8 is not quick enough to react to Douena's spellcasting. The magical energy returns a semblance of health to Pezock.

Urza Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 -- pass
This is the final round of the poison, so Urza will become free on the assailants' turn next round.

Another assailant (#1) comes through the open doors to the north. He looks quite hurt, but nonetheless moves up to help #5 against Makoa (move to AW32). #6 moves up a little to get closer to Douena (5-ft step to AY33), while #7 hops off the bed to catch up to Pezock (5-ft step to BA33).

Assailant #1 short sword at Makoa: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 -- hit

Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Assailant #8 punching dagger at Pezock: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13; Miss Chance 20%: 1d100 ⇒ 69 -- miss

#1 and #5 manage to cut up Makoa quite a bit. Along with the other damage the half-orc has already taken, he's starting to look bad (23/64 hp remaining). Sasha and Pezock also take a minor hit each.

Next Up: Makoa, Lorenz, Sasha, Ishirou (bound), Pezock, Jask (unconscious), Alton, Mahjik, Shokambe, Young Girl, Uza (paralysed), Douena, Assailants.

I have another busy weekend coming up, so this is probably the last post I'll be able to make until Monday. Gives Dragonborn lots of time to respond! :)

Before Makao acts
Coordinating with Makao here to set up flanking (irrespective if controlled by Dragonborn or Navior):

Blood now rolling down his face and torso freely, Mahjik sees a similar situation for Makao. He springs to action to help his friend shouting: "Get the one on the right, I'll take the one in the middle! We can take them down quickly!"

Mahjik's turn
AC 20; HP 18/21
Attack #2 until he drops then 5ft to AV30 and continue flurry on #5. First attack on #5 is also a Stunning Fist DC 18. Excludes flanking from rolls, but add +2 to attacks when appropriate.

"Wise man sometimes seeks counsel in the fates. Irori guide these hands." Relinquishing control to attack with greater power instead, Mahjik unleashes a hellish series of strikes.

Attack, power attack 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 - 2 = 13 damage 1d8 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 4 = 13

Attack, power attack 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 - 2 = 18 damage 1d8 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 4 = 8

Attack, power attack, ki attack 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 2 = 24 damage 1d8 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 4 = 12
confirmation 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 - 2 = 15 damage 1d8 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 4 = 9

Male Human (Andoran) Fighter Lvl 5

Round 6: HP: 31/44 - AC/FF/T: 14/10/14 - No Armor.

"Oh, to the hells with it!" Lorenz exclaims. He drops his flail and opens himself up for an attack as he reaches into his quiver and pulls out his bow.

"Let's see if you can take this!" He smoothly drops an arrow into place and fires at point blank, accepting the consequences of such close combat.

Move action: Take bow from quiver. Open to AoO.
Point Blank Shot, another AoO possibility: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

Makoa bite at #1, rage: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 -- miss
Makoa claw 1 at #1, rage: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6
Makoa claw 2 at #1, rage: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
5/7 rage rounds used

Makoa nods briefly at Mahjik's words and shifts his attentions to #1. #1 barely has time to cry out before the half-orc's claws rips his chest open. The man topples over. Makoa then shifts his position slightly to coordinate with Mahjik (5-ft step to AX32).

Assailant #4 AoO short sword at Lorenz: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8

As Lorenz reaches for his bow, #4 makes a hasty stab at him, catching him across the back of the neck. He looks a little surprised to see Lorenz bring up a bow, and looks even more surprised when the arrow cuts through his cloak and catches a strap on his armour, but otherwise misses him. Poor Lorenz has had absolutely no luck this battle. :(

Sasha rapier at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Sasha kukri at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 2 = 17 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Amid the confusion of the arrow, however, Sasha manages to strike with both her weapons, but only delivers scratches to #4's arm.

Ishirou Escape Artist to escape bonds: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20 -- fail

Pezock sawtooth sabre at #7: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 -- miss
Pezock bite at #7: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 -- hit
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 1

Pezock turns his attention to #7. His sword clangs against the assailant's sword, but he manages to follow up with a bite to the man's hand. He then steps back through the open door (5-ft step to BA31). "We could use some help over here!" he yells down the hall.

Alton Fly check to hover: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16 -- success
Alton bite at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 2 = 8 -- miss

Alton tries to snap at #4, but the man manages to avoid the flappybite's beak. Three of you ganging up on #4 and you can't get him!

Mahjik unleashes a series of powerful attacks at #2. The assailant avoids the first one, only to move straight into Mahjik's fist for the second. That attack leaves him badly hurt, but still just standing. Mahjik follows up with a blindingly quick blow to the man's face, breaking his nose and probably his jaw too. The man topples over. Mahjik shifts over to help Makoa. The critical was not confirmed, but it was still more than enough damage to take him down.

Seeing #2 fall, Shokambe quickly follows Mahjik to #5 and attacks (move to AW30).

Shokambe heavy mace at #5: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12 -- miss

CURRENT EFFECTS:
Poison + Paralysis (Urza) -- will end on the assailants' turn this round

Douena glares up at the three assailants, then suddenly tumbles backward out of the door, hoping to evade their blades. Regaining her feet behind the tengu, she reaches out to heal him once again, glancing down the hall at Mahjik and Shokambe. "Where's everyone else?!" she cries.

Move to AZ 30: Acrobatics to avoid AoO 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (13) + 11 = 24; convert endure elements to cure light wounds on Pezock 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Used Mahjik's map to see what she could see when she got out the door. Since she's avoiding AoOs from 3 people, is it one Acrobatics roll applied to CMD, CMD+2, and CMD=4 respectively, or is it all or nothing: CMD+4 or she takes attacks from all three? Will the doorframe provide partial cover between Pezock and the attackers?

Okay, they appear to have around 40ish hp by my guess. I know Mahjik and Shokambe did collectively 35 damage (8 of which non-lethal) and the guy was still standing. Then the next 12 damage dropped him.

"Shokambe, Makao and me are in the hallway! We got two, but there's one more - and the little girl ran downstairs."

Mahjik the Flink wrote:

You're overestimating somewhat. You needed considerably less than 12 on that last hit to take #2 down. :)

Still standing at 35, dropped at 47 = 36hp! :D

Oh, wait a minute. I goofed. Mahjik's first hit brought it beneath 8 hp, which should have knocked it unconscious. His last attack could have then gone against #5. I'll fix that as soon as I have time to update again.

Okay, sorry for the delay. Had a really busy day yesterday.

#2 was knocked unconscious by Mahjik, but is not dying. Mahjik's next attack then ended up on #5 and is a stunning fist attack. However, because of the flank, the attack also confirmed the critical. The total damage is enough to take him down, making the save against stun irrelevant. With #5 down, instead of attacking, Shokambe moved through the doors to the north to assist Ishirou and Jask.

Douena easily bounds out of the way of the assailants in front of her and provides Pezock with some healing. I generally treat it as one Acrobatics check applied to CMD, CMD+2, and CMD+4. Sometimes, it's obvious with opponent is the +0, which the +2, and so on, but sometimes it has to be an arbitrary decision. In this case, it doesn't really make a difference as Douena beats them all. :)

The assailants continue their assault. #7 and #8 move up to the door to attack Pezock, leaving no room for for #6 to get in.

Assailant #4 short sword at Sasha: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 -- miss
Assailant #4 punching dagger at Sasha: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Assailant #7 short sword at Pezock: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 -- miss
Assailant #7 punching dagger at Pezock: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15 -- miss

Assailant #8 short sword at Pezock: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 -- miss
Assailant #8 punching dagger at Pezock: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13 -- miss

#4 catches Sasha in the arm again. Its damage is minor, but the succession of minor damages to her is starting to add up.

Urza begins to feel himself able to move again, but it will take him a moment to act (i.e. until his turn).

Next Up: Makoa, Lorenz, Sasha, Ishirou, Pezock, Jask (unconscious), Alton, Mahjik, Shokambe, Young Girl, Urza, Douena, Assailants.

AC 20; HP 15/53

Mahjik's body shudders from blood loss and the after effects of the poison. Muttering quietly to himself seems to help, as he lifts a steady hand to press under his armpit - restricting the blood flow to the wounded artery. It doesn't take long for a little congealing to set in, and once started the process just kept going without much more attention.

Mahjik sighs, still tired. Then he sets into motion, moving down the passage to Douena and Pezock AY30. "We've got at least three down in the hallway further up, and I saw the little girl go downstairs - looked like she decided it wasn't safe for her anymore."

Male Human (Andoran) Fighter Lvl 5

Round 7: HP: 23/44 - AC/FF/T: 14/10/14 - No Armor.

"Leave her be, you arse!" Lorenz ignores the danger to himself and fires another arrow at the intruder.

Point Blank Shot, another AoO: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

Man, Lorenz couldn't even stab himself in the eye right now.

Okay, I guess I'll post for Makoa again. :)

As the last assailant near him goes down, Makoa sniffs the air briefly, then turns and hurries down the south corridor, positioning himself beside Pezock at the door to the south room (move to AZ31).

Makoa bite at #8, raging: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Makoa bites at the startled man, who tries to shield his face with his arm. He does end up protecting his face, but loses a chunk out of his forearm.

Assailant #4 AoO short sword at Lorenz: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 -- miss

In the southwest room, as Lorenz prepares an arrow for another shot, #4 tries to take advantage of the situation, but Lorenz is just a little to quick for him. Unfortunately, Desna has clearly completely abandoned Lorenz, as yet another point-blank shot misses #4.

Sasha rapier at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 = 13 -- miss
Sasha kukri at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 6 + 2 = 17 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Sasha tries to take advantage of the confusion of the arrow firing and Alton flanking on the other side. Somehow #4 still manages to step aside of her rapier strike, but her kukri finds its mark (and actually does more than minimum damage!).

Pezock sawtooth sabre at #7: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 -- hit
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Pezock bite at #7: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 -- miss

Meanwhile, Pezock manages a slash across #7's leg.

Alton Fly check to hover: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 -- success
Alton bite at #4, flanking: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 + 2 = 7 -- miss

Alton tries to bite at #4, who continues to prove remarkably dexterous in his ability to avoid multiple attacks.

Mahjik manages to stop his bleeding and approaches Douena.

Shokambe checks Jask, then works to help free Ishirou.

Glancing around, Douena asks, "Where's Sasha and Lorenz?" She opens the door she finds herself next to and finds herself staring between the legs of another assailant. "Ew! Lorenz, put some pants on," she scolds and makes a sweep with her starknife at the attacker's legs, more to distract him from her allies in the room than out of the hope of actually injuring him. Unfortunately, the man seems not even to notice the Small gnome in the hallway.

Move action: open door; Standard action: Aid Another: +2 to Lorenz's next attack 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5 vs. AC 10

See? Desna won't even let Douena help him anymore; she's just given him up as a lost cause.

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

If they don't run...

Biting at the intruders again, Makoa brings his claws to bear as well, thinking of nothing but ripping and tearing into his enemies.

Bite at #8, raging: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Claw 1 at #8, raging: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Claw 2 at #8, raging: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Mahjik looks over the shoulders of Makao and Lorenz to try and determine what the attackers will be doing next. He readies to pull either Makao or Lorenz out of harms way should either be attacked.

Readied action: Aid Another, +2 AC for either Makao or Lorenz, whoever is attacked first 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 19 vs AC 10

Finally able to move again, Urza bounds out of the bedroom to join the fray. Douena opens the door to the southwest room to reveal Lorenz and Sasha attempting to deal with assailant #4. She attempts to distract the assailant, but he pays her no mind.

"This is a wash. Let's get out of here!" #6 yells. He turns and heads to the window, and reaches for the rope he swung in on. Move to AY34. Move action to grab rope.

#8 nods to #7. "You first, I'll cover you." #7 moves carefully away from Pezock and Makoa. Withdraw to BA34. #8 backs up slowly behind him. 5-ft step to BA33; ready action to attack anyone who moves up into reach.

Hearing what's happening across the hall, and seeing five people now surrounding him, #4 drops his weapons and raises his hands. "I surrender."

Next Up: Makoa, Lorenz, Sasha, Ishirou, Pezock, Jask, Alton, Mahjik, Shokambe, Young Girl (?), Urza, Douena, Assailants (#8 subject to readied action).
Makoa can easily take a 5-ft step and still make the same attacks as posted (subject to #8's readied attack), but if you wish to change your action based on the assailants' started retreated, you can.

Lorenz grabs the weapons his assailant dropped and tosses them under the bed and out of the prisoner's reach. "A wise decision." He looks past the man to Urza. "Watch out! I think this guy has some sort of magic that gives his opponents really bad luck."

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

I'll take that AoO and 5ft to keep my attacks.

Cancel Mahjik's posted action from before - I'll wait to see the map when it is his turns again.

Assailant #8 short sword at Makoa: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

Makoa follows after the retreating assailants. #8 stabs at him as he does so. Although the half-orc is looking very hurt, he barely pays the extra wound any mind as he boars into the man. #8 screams as Makoa rips apart his neck and chest. In a split second, it's over and #8 is lying ina pool of blood on the ground. The bonuses on Makoa's bite attack are off. His hit roll should total 19 and the damage should be 8. His bite is a primary attack (as are his claws) so there is no -5 penalty to hit and he does full strength bonus to damage. All three attacks hit.

Lorenz accepts #4's surrender and kicks the man's weapons aside. Sasha breathes a sigh of relief.

"Excellent work, beast man!" Pezock says to Makoa. "We mustn't let them get away!" He moves up over #8's fallen form to get at #7 (move to BA33).

Pezock sawtooth sabre at #7: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25 -- hit
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Pezock's sabre cuts a nasty gash across #7's back.

At a nod from Sasha, Alton backs away and flies up to the roof.

Next Up: Mahjik, Shokambe, Young Girl (?), Urza, Douena, Assailants, Makoa, Lorenz, Sasha, Ishirou, Pezock, Jask, Alton.

Mahjik half sees Makao felling another assailant, but hears still more beyond the door. He rushes into the room too, taking momentum as he propels himself from the walls to jump passed the bandits if viable or necessary - then attacks the assailant that looks most likely to escape with a debilitating blow in the hopes of preventing an escape.

Acrobatics, tumble (if necessary) 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Attack, stunning fist DC 18 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 damage 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Assailant #6 Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 -- fail

Mahjik hurries into the room, up to #6, who has hold of a rope and looks about to climb out the window. His fist catches the man on the side of the head, knocking the other side of his head against the window frame. The rope slips from his grasp as he stumbles and nearly falls.

Urza growls in frustration as #4 surrenders. He hurries into the next room and releases a jet of flame before another one (#7) can utter those unholy words.
Scorching Ray: RTouch, fire into melee

Urza's jet of flame streaks past Pezock's shoulder (causing the tengu to grimace momentarily) and hits #7 square in the chest. With a scream, the man falls and slumps over the window sill, his cloak smoking and his flesh blackened.

Next Up: Douena, Assailants (#6 stunned), Makoa, Lorenz, Sasha, Ishirou, Pezock, Jask, Alton, Mahjik, Shokambe, Urza.

"Makoa! Be careful! Don't step on my wand!" Douena beseeches anxiously, stepping up behind the half-orc and reaching to retrieve the delicate twig from between his feet. "Not that it's a good wand," she grumbles, glaring at it severely before tucking it at her belt for safekeeping. "I wish they'd had a temple of Desna in Eleder."

5-foot-step to AZ 31; pick up wand from AZ 32; put away wand

Douena easily retrieves her wand. Over by the windows, #6 is still trying to lift his head off the window sill. #4 stands still, hands still raised.

Next Up: Makoa, Lorenz, Sasha, Ishirou, Pezock, Jask, Alton, Mahjik, Shokambe, Urza, Douena, Assailants.

Lorenz reaches into his pack and grabs his rope. "Put out your hands," he orders. Presuming that the captive does so, he ties up their prisoner.

I'll presume Makoa goes after the one remaining assailant.

Makoa steps forward (5-ft step to AZ 33) and reaches over the bed.

Makoa bite at #6: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Makoa claw 1 at #6: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Makoa claw 2 at #6: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

The stunned man is completely unable to react as the half-orc rips his chest and neck open. As the man falls over, a bloody mess, Makoa sits down on the bed, panting, and looking in pretty bad shape. 7/7 rounds of rage used. Fatigued. HP drop to 6 total.

COMBAT OVER

#4 submits to Lorenz's demands and allows himself to be tied up.

"Where's Jask? And Shokambe? And Ishirou?" Douena hurries down the hall checking doors until she finds them.

Any room we can all fit into for channeling purposes without healing the bad guys? Or, alternatively, we could drag all the dead/unconscious bad guys into Cheiton's bedroom and shut the door to exclude them.

I deliberately didn't make stabilization checks for Jask during the battle in order to maintain the suspense. I will make them now. Alas, with his low Con, he only gets a couple chances and Shokambe does not get to him in that little time.

Jask stabilization check: 1d20 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (7) - 2 - 5 = 0 -- fail
Jask stabilization check: 1d20 - 2 - 6 ⇒ (6) - 2 - 6 = -2 -- fail

Douena finds Ishirou and Shokambe in the northern room. Shokambe is knelt over Jask, who lies on the floor near the base of the bed. Jask is not moving, not even his chest from breathing. Ishirou is standing just inside the doorway. He shakes his head sadly as Douena arrives.

Shokambe looks up. "I'm afraid he was already dead when I reached him. He was a good man."

Both Ishirou and Shokambe are badly injured.

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 3

Douena is shocked into stunned silence for a moment, then bursts into tears. "All because you wanted ale and women and soft beds to sleep in!" she shouts down the hall in Lorenz and Urza's direction accusingly. "If we'd all been camping outside or sleeping in one room like you promised, I could have saved him!" She shoves next to Shokambe on the floor and collapses on Jask's chest, weeping.

Urza walks up behind Douena. He can only hang his head as she berates him. "I am sorry. So sorry for my weakness. First Aerys now Jask." He keeps his head low.

Mahjik enters the room solemnly. Quietly he says, "This isn't over. I made sure to keep one alive - but unconscious - along with the other one we captured, we will find out who is responsible for this. Maybe one of the other groups that are chasing us managed to send word ahead - or overtook us. Ishirou, can you identify them? Are they with the Aspis?"

Ishirou looks away from Jask to Mahjik. He nods slowly. "I will see." He then heads out of the room and begins searching the bodies of your attackers.

In the south room, Sasha pushes #4 out the door towards Pezock. "Watch him," she tells the tengu and before Pezock can protest, she closes the door so that she can get dressed. "I don't like the sounds of what I'm hearing from the other room," she confesses to Lorenz. "Sounds like..." She pauses for a moment to compose herself. "Sounds like Jask didn't make it."

In the hall, Pezock stares at the prisoner. "Shall I kill him?" he asks Makoa, the only other person left with him. The assailant's skin pales.

After a minute or so, Ishirou returns to the north room. "They carry no identifying marks," he says. "However, they all carry a few coins, some thieves' tools, and each has a thunderstone. One of them carried this wand." He holds out a short, thin wand. "I checked downstairs and there is no sign of the girl. However, a window is open. She might have climbed out that way, or she wants us to think she climbed out that way."

"No. Not yet, anyway." Makoa says before he shakily casts a spell, the sounds of the forest filling his ears as his wounds stop bleeding and heal a bit.

He turns on the captive then, eyes filled with anger.

"Tell me who sent you." He growls. "It's the difference between dying quickly or slowly."

"But none of the spells I have saved her. My confidence in my spells killed him. One day I will be powerful enough to lay waste to my foes with a spoken word and an effort of will. I will have the power to make them all BURN." He takes a breath. "Her death is my fault because I had yet come into my glory. His death is my fault because I still have not come into it. But I'm still growing and when we make it to the city, I'm going to build a monument in her memory and now his to."

Quietly Mahjik adds, "Don't forget Alton. We wouldn't be here without him."
