Mahjik secures some rocks to help hold the bodies under the water, and Douena says a prayer to give them a proper burial. When that's over with, Sasha begins edging forward along the north side of the cavern. "Let's see if we can get a glimpse of what's down each direction," she says. "We can decide which way to go based on that."

I'll presume others move forward with her. I've kept everyone on the same side of the cavern that they ended the battle on. I've you'd like to change that, just let me know.

Moving forward, Douena and Pezock can see that the south passage comes to an end some distance ahead, although there does seem to be a thinner portion turning northeast around a corner. The available light doesn't reach far enough for those on the north side to see much farther into the other two directions than before.

Douena clucks her tongue in annoyance and glances over at the group on the far side of the water to make sure Mahjik still has his torch out for light. "This side looks like it bends back this way a little," she calls quietly across the pool, her voice easily carrying in the echoing cavern. "It could just be a loop that comes back out here." She points to the rocky spur to her east. Taking out another stone, she makes it glow, and the shimmering reflections on the ceiling fade as the one underwater releases its magic. "Toss it down there, Pezock," she tells the tengu, handing him the stone and gesturing to the southeast. "Sasha, move up a little farther and see if you can see any light coming around the corner."

Trying to put a light near the southern bend and see if it's visible from the "middle" passage to verify if the two meet up.

Urza takes this time to cast Mage Armor on himself and, if he can Mahjik as well.

Mahjik gratefully receives the longer-duration Mage Armor. "Wise man reckons that a sufficiently advanced magic is indistinguishable from armor. I'm glad you have discovered and made these mysteries your own Urza."

Mahjik is indeed wielding and holding high his everburning torch. Light as far as the eye can see. Which is as far as the light goes.

Male Human (Andoran) Fighter Lvl 5

Lorenz looks at the light that Mahjik has and considers bringing out one of his sun rods but changes his mind. "Mahjik, why don't you trade places with me? That way Sasha has more light and I'll be in a better position to shoot my bow. I'll stay right behind you, though."

Seeking to swap places with Mahjik and stay in that order for future movement.

Sasha moves farther along the north side, Mahjik right behind her. Meanwhile Douena and Pezock move up a bit as Douena lights a new stone and tosses it down the southern passage. Although she still can't see very far around the corner, it lands far enough down that its light should penetrate the next section if they join.

Looking down the southeast passage, Sasha, Mahjik, and Lorenz, don't see any light coming out. Instead, the see that that passage starts to curve to the east. "Doesn't look like they..." Sasha starts to say, but trails off, her gaze turning up. Mahjik also notices what she's looking at.

Two more wights are on the ceiling over the entrance to the southeast passage. They cling to stalactites. "More wights on the ceiling!" Sasha calls out. Realizing they've been discovered, the wights begin banging hard on the ceiling. The banging echoes loudly throughout the mine.

ROUND 1

CURRENT EFFECTS:
Mage armour (Urza, Mahjik)

Hearing Sasha's call and then the loud banging, Pezock rushes gleefully forward and over the bridge at the edge of the southern passage. He then hurries around the corner and looks up. With a frown, he says, "How am I supposed to get them up there?" Double move to W 52, drawing sabre as he moves.

Next Up: Makoa, Wights, Ishirou, Sasha, Jask, Urza, Mahjik, Shokambe, Lorenz, Douena, Pezock.

Map Updated
Note: Only those on the north side, plus Pezock, can currently see the two wights on the ceiling.

"You need some throwing knives, Pezock!" Makoa calls out as he sloshes through the water toward the tengu.

Moving to Y-52, or toward that if the water slows me down.

Wrong avatar, Makoa. :) Navior, how high is the ceiling in here?

Douena Trestleben wrote:

20 feet.

Makoa sloshes through the water, which does indeed slow him down. He can make it to Y 51. It actually would've been quicker to use the bridge. :)

The two wights on the ceiling continue to bang away. As they do so, three more wights come from the southeast, moving around the corner and staring across at the people on the north side. Another three also come out of the north passage.

Ishirou hurries past Douena and across the bridge. Double move to X 51. Meanwhile, Sasha moves along the north wall and up to the first of the approaching wights.

She thrusts with her rapier, sending the point through the wight's stomach, its dry skin cracking and breaking.

Jask hurries across the bridge. Double move to Y 52.

Next Up: Urza, Mahjik, Shokambe, Lorenz, Douena, Pezock, Makoa, Wights, Ishirou, Sasha, Jask.

Urza moves up and fires off more flames, but the beam goes too far wide and misses its mark completely.

Mahjik hurries forward and with a leap, splashes down into the water beside Sasha, drenching her and the wight, as well as himself. He's quick with a punch while the wight is still distracted by the splashing water, knocking its head back in a manner that would probably be quite deadly for a living creature. Even for the wight, it's rather debilitating.

Shokambe follows up behind Sasha, (double move to R 55).

Next Up: Lorenz, Douena, Pezock, Makoa, Wights, Ishirou, Sasha, Jask, Urza, Mahjik, Shokambe.

Round 1: HP = 36/36; AC = 21

Can Lorenz take a five-foot step into T51? If not, he'll stay where he is.

Pleased to finally be in a position to better aid in combat, Lorenz puts his back to the wall and slides over a little to get a better view. Then he begins to fire arrows at the wights.

#2 Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10

The thundering of the wights banging on the stone throws off his concentration, however, and he can't seem to focus properly.

Damned autodice!

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 2

"I can't see what's going on!" Douena shouts. "What's all that banging?"

Douena will delay until the shore on the other side of the bridge clears out a bit so she has somewhere to go.

Lorenz shifts to the side a little and fires twice at #5, but both arrows slam into the ceiling well in front of the wight, far enough in front that the wight doesn't even pause in its banging to defend itself.

ROUND 2

CURRENT EFFECTS:
Mage armour (Urza, Mahjik)

Seeing more wights on the ground, Pezock forgets about the ones on the ceiling and wades eagerly into the water, crossing over to the nearest of the wights. (double move to W 56).

"There are wights hanging from the ceiling, hitting the stone with their fists!" Lorenz calls back.

Makoa slogs through the water after Pezock, coming up right beside the tengu. As the two of them reach the shore, the wights attack, #8, 10, and 11 moving up to better position themselves first. #11 has to push through the others and opens itself up to attack from Mahjik. The two on the ceiling continue to bang away.

#6 punches Pezock hard in the stomach. The tengu reels back, gasping for breath. Dried and shrivelled feathers fall from him into the water. #8 lands a hard blow on Makoa, but the half-orc is able to resist its dehydrating effect. The other wights swipe ineffectively at their targets.

Ishirou wades through the water after Makoa and Pezock (double move to X 56).

Sasha kukri at #10: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18 -- hit

Sasha stabs her rapier straight through the neck of #9, which shudders there for a moment suspended by her blade. With a quick kick, she pushes the wight off the sword and it falls over. She steps over the body (5-ft step to S 57) and slashes the leg of #10 with her kukri.

Jask moves around the corner and wades a short distance into the water (move to V 53). He calls out again to Nethys. Channel energy: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11.

Tingling energy spreads through everyone, healing up the wounds on Makoa and Pezock (but unfortunately not the tengu's dried skin) and causing the wights' skin to crack and peel. The two on the ceiling shudder, but manage to hold on to their positions.

Next Up: Urza, Mahjik, Shokambe, Lorenz, Douena (subject to delayed action), Pezock, Makoa, Wights, Ishirou, Sasha, Jask.

As the others charge around the corner of the rocky spur, Douena scurries across the bridge to follow them. "Pezock!" she shouts, when she sees the feathers in the water. "Get away from that thing!"

Move to W 52. How deep is the water where Pezock and Makoa are standing? I don't think Douena can wade; she's only three feet tall herself.

A bright beam shoots from Urza's fingertips straight into #11's side. Dried flesh just dissolves away at the beams contact point. Meanwhile, Douena moves forward.

Pezock and Makoa are near the edge and are in about a foot and a half of water. The middle is deeper, however, and Douena would have to swim through it to get to the other side.

Next Up: Mahjik, Shokambe, Lorenz, Pezock, Makoa, Wights, Ishirou, Sasha, Jask, Urza, Douena.

Lorenz's first arrow lodges in the back of the wight's head. It turns its head to stare at Lorenz just in time for the second arrow to shoot right through its eye. With a hiss, the wight loses its grip on the stalactite and crashes to the water below with a great splash.

Pezock shakes his head slightly to remove water from is eyes and presses his attack on the wight in front of him. His sabre makes a wide arc and slices into the wight's side. He spins around to try to bite as well, but the wight ducks aside.

Makoa's axe slices off a chunk of #7's shoulder, leaving the arm seeming barely attached but still capable of full motion. Makoa's attempt to bite comes close, but the wight pulls back just enough that Makoa's teeth scrape the surface of the dry skin, but don't penetrate.

While the remaining wight on the ceiling continues to bang away, #7 returns Makoa's attack with a bash to the side of the half-orc's head. #10 headbutts Sasha, knocking her back a step. Both Sasha and Makoa are able to resist being drained of water. The other two wights swipe at Pezock and Makoa, but the tengu barely has to move to avoid #6's clumsy attack, and Makoa's armour blocks the attack of the other.

Ishirou katana at #6: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9 -- miss

Ishirou, who only barely avoided being hit by the wight falling from the ceiling, now attacks. Unfortunately, he hasn't quite regained his footing and he stumbles forward slightly as he swings, causing the blade to cut only through the water beside his target.

Sasha stabs her rapier into #10's leg, and then as its movement is momentarily hampered, she attempts slash the other leg with her kukri. However, it manages to pull aside at the last moment.

Jask once again calls out to Nethys and the warm, tingling sensation heals the living and harms the undead. Wight #6 actually shrivels to a complete husk from the effect and topples over. "Hey, that was mine!" Pezock yells in frustration.

Urza fires off another beam, which hits #10 right above the eyes. Its dry flesh sizzles, but the wight remains standing.

Next Up: Douena, Mahjik, Shokambe (subject to delayed action), Lorenz, Pezock, Makoa, Wights, Ishirou, Sasha, Jask, Urza.

Douena hops agitatedly at the edge of the water, eyeing its depths. "I can't get over there!" she complains loudly over the echoing din. Glaring up at the wight pounding on the ceiling, she flings her starknife at it to try to silence it or at least knock it down. Unused to throwing the heavy cold iron weapon, however, she miscalculates badly and her gift from Desna veers off wildly and splashes into the water some distance down the tunnel.

As Douena's starknife plunges into the water, Mahjik brings a swift strike into #10's stomach, knocking the wight right over. It splashes into the water and doesn't get back up.

Shokambe continues to wait. Delay.

Next Up: Lorenz, Pezock, Makoa, Wights, Ishirou, Sasha, Jask, Urza, Douena, Mahjik, Shokambe (subject to delayed action).

Wander is probably busy sightseeing, so I'll post for him. He's been firing arrows at the wights on the ceiling, so I'll presume he continues.

Lorenz 2nd Rapid Shot with Deadly Aim at #4: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 1 = 14 -- miss

Sorry! I had internet difficulties yesterday and was just about to post. That was just what Lorenz was going to do anyway, however, so thanks!

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

Continuing his brutal assault with gnashing teeth and slicing axe, Makoa presses the attack on #7.

Power Axe::1d20 + 6 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 6 - 1 = 13
Damage::1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Power Bite(Secondary Attack)::1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Damage:1d4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

Lorenz was going to go and miss twice? That is bleak man. Be more optimistic! ;)

More undead death ray.
Disrupt Undead: RTouch, fire into melee
to hit 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19 damage 1d6 ⇒ 4

Makoa swings his axe viciously, but the wight steps to the side, just out of its path. However, this moves the wight just a bit too close to the half-orcs gnashing teeth. Makoa tears a chunk out of the wight's neck, and the now truly lifeless body topples over.

On the ceiling above, #4 continues to bang and as it does so, cracks begin to appear in the rock, spreading out. On the ground, the only other remain wight presses the attack on Makoa, who easily avoids its futile punch.

Wight #8 slam at Makoa: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 -- miss

Ishirou wades back onto the dry land and pushes forward towards #8 (move to V57).

Ishirou katana at #8: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 -- hit, critical threat
Ishirou critical confirm: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 -- not confirmed
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

His katana slices low across the wight's knees. It's not enough to bring the wight down, however.

Sasha moves into the water and towards #8 (move to T 57)

Sasha rapier at #8: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 -- hit, critical threat
Sasha critical confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27 -- confirmed
Damage: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 2) + 2 = 8

She stabs with her rapier, piercing the chest. If the wight had a beating heart, she would have skewered it. As it is, she probably did skewer the heart, but since the wight doesn't need it, it continues to stand.

Seeing the wight above about to bring the roof down, Jask calls out to Nethys once again.

Jask channel energy DC 14: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 6) = 8
Wight #4 Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11 -- fail
Wight #8 Will: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 -- fail

As the tingling sensation spreads out, both wights convulse and shake. #8 falls face first, almost colliding with Makoa before splashing into the water. #4 makes one last feeble bang at the ceiling before losing its grip and falling into the water below.

COMBAT OVER

"My starknife!" Douena yelps, rushing down the edge of the water and lighting up another stone from her pocket. When she gets close to where she thinks the weapon fell, she tosses it in and looks anxiously for its shape or the glimmer of its jewels beneath the surface. Perception 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

Douena easily locates her starknife. She'll have to get a bit wet to retrieve it though.

Female Gnome Cleric 4/ Rogue (burglar) 2

Already wet from Makoa's create water. But there's an easier way to get it than a Swim check...

"Pezock!" she calls, pointing into the water. "Can you get my starknife?"

He's wet, too, and he can wade. Assuming it's no deeper there than the rest of the mine. :)

How many people took Con damage, and how much? Pezock and Makoa, iirc.

As the group gets itself in order, Urza moves to better see what's in the darkness ahead.

Lorenz moves closer to Sasha and the others, keeping his eye warily to the ceiling. "That was weird. Were they just up there to keep watch? That's a sort of unusual alert system."

Shrugging, he decides to see if he can locate one of the four arrows that he failed to strike the wight's with.

It used to be a percentile check to locate arrows that didn't hit their target. I thought it'd be a 50% chance or something like that. Is that an option, Navior? Just in case, here's four checks:
1d100 ⇒ 5
1d100 ⇒ 38
1d100 ⇒ 90
1d100 ⇒ 73

Undead, the other wight meat!

Makoa spits the wight flesh from his mouth in disgust.

"For all we know, they are spread out through this entire mine system, and that was the signal for lunch."

I checked through this combat, and I took no Con damage. In fact, every time I even took regular damage, Jask healed me through his channels.

However, in the previous combat, both Douena (in this post) and Makoa (in this post) took 1 point of Con damage, which hasn't been healed yet. Pezock took 3 points in this combat.

Grumbling slightly, Pezock wades into the water and fishes out Douena's starknife for her.

Meanwhile, Urza moves along the northern shoreline and looks into the northeastern passage. He sees that it only goes a short distance before reaching a dead end. However, at the end of the passage, he sees a strange metal and wooden device. It consists of a central shaft running from floor to ceiling, surrounded by poles that form a large cage around the device, attached to a trough or basin perforated with tiny holes. Ropes run from the basin up through blocks mounted to the tops of the poles.

Douena takes the opportunity of taking her starknife from Pezock to take a better look at the place where he lost feathers from the wight's attack. "How are you feeling, Pezock?" she asks anxiously. "Drink some water; I'll fill your waterskin back up when you're done."

"Is that some form of pump to keep the place dry?" Mahjik comes along side Urza, staring at the strange device. "If so it obviously hasn't been used in a while."

After locating two of the four arrows he'd lost, Lorenz steps out of the water and makes his way toward the passageway he'd seen Urza and Mahjik going into.

Move to R60.

"It looks like it's just a dead end and some mining equipment," he says when he gets there. "How disappointing."

Percetion (following example on Urza) 1d20 + 11

It's hard to tell more without going up close to examine it; however, Lorenz's suggestion that it's some sort of mining equipment seems likely.

"I'll be fine," Pezock says, but he does drink some water from his flask.

Jask goes over to examine Pezock, who tries to shoo him away at first, but then lets him examine him. "Yours is a little more serious than Douena or Makoa," Jask says. "It will heal on its own, but it will take several days. However, I can help a bit."

He lays his hands on the tengu and says a quiet prayer to Nethys. His hands glow lightly and Pezock's dried skin begins to look more normal. The lost feathers don't grow back, but otherwise Pezock now looks fine.
