That is ... unpleasant. Did he not talk to you about it IRL before springing in on your discussion thread? I just knew you brought your last "disappeared" PC back as a zombie that the party had to hack to pieces. As far as PbPs and real-life friends, sometimes it seems like players who know the DM IRL tend to presume more on his goodwill than they would if they were strangers. I DM IRL for 2 groups, and the one made of friends and family is much more likely to cancel at the last minute or show up late than the group that just got together for gaming purposes. Anyway, ...tangent. Hope you don't lose any more!
Nope, no mention of it- but I could see it coming as I said, he and another friend have just finished phasing me out of their lies. I don't actually bear Karma Police aka Flute any ill will- I just wanted a bit of horror in my serpents skull game, with the zombie's last memories of the camp driving him home.
I prefer to RP with acquaintainces and strangers over friends now, for similar reasons to your experiences
Those of you who check under the Supporting Cast page of our site will see the reason I asked for descriptions of the NPC's.
Gelik will be.. troublesome, to say the least.
Okay, I think I did something wrong on the site, because the only way I could get to it was by going to the bottom of the page and clicking the "Recent Site Activity" link.
Ah! Now I understand what you were referring to. I must admit, I was really really confused. :)
At any rate, yeah, the table wasn't set up to allow more than one picture. However, I've now modified it with a new column specifically for your pictures.
I found Aerys on the site anyway, although I had to check the Recent Activity link as well. Took me a while. :)
Well then Little Miss 'I Can Do It', how about you go try out HeroMachine? I suggest avoiding making Douena right away though.. you'll get frustrated if/when she doesn't look right! ;) Just above the part of the screen where you do the actual creating, there are links to tips and tricks to help you!
To add things to the supporting cast table, click add item for a new row. To edit an existing row, just click on the row (but not a link in the row). That will bring up a dialog box where you can enter and/or change the information for each column. For the picture columns, there will be a spot to enter the url.
Yeah, I clicked on "tips & tricks." They seem to assume that I even know how to get started. I need instructions, like "Step 1, To make anything appear in the box at all, do x."
It's sad; there was a time when I was pretty tech-savvy. I was on IRC back in the days when just being a girl online was enough to get you opped on any channel. I got phone calls from hackers and presents and mix tapes from boys all over the world. Now I can't even figure out how to draw. And this after my high school made me take a course in BASIC to insure my future in a brave new technological world!
@Navior: Thank you. I'll get the pictures up as I make them.
@Joana: If you scroll down a bit to the box, you'll see "Choose Slot...". Click that and then click on whatever category you want(like 'Companion'). This should open the "Choose set..." pull down tab. Choose a category from that, and the pictures of the "Slot/Set" items will appear. You click on any picture and it appears on the screen.
From there, you should be able to figure it out. I'm always here to help though!

I know how you feel. Back in the early 90's I was a superior tech geek. Now I look at some of the technology out there (like Google's Site) and just feel like an idiot when things don't work the way I expect them too. The world is just passing me by. Talk about making me feel like an anachronistic old fart.
Congratulations! Today, you completed both Aerys's and Jask's special quests! I was also very impressed with how you handled the ghost of Captain Kinkarian. If you had taken the locket with you (which is the adventure's default assumption), he would have followed you. However, he was only capable of mobility at night, so he would have shown up at the camp during the night demanding that you release Aeshamara to him. You deftly avoided all that. Well done! And yes, you get full XP for it too. :)
Anyway, the NPC rewards:
The Abendego Cantos are very well written and contain compelling themes of the strength of personality against incalculable odds. Anyone who spends 8 hours (not necessarily consecutive) reading the work gains a permanent +1 bonus on Will saves against compulsion effects.
Anyone who spends 8 hours practicing Jask's mantras and chants gains a permanent +2 bonus to concentration checks.
Thanks! Both sound awesome. I'm actually kind of surprised that The Abendego Cantos is well written. I'd never have expected Aerys to have talent in poetry.
I'm also surprised that the AP expects people to take the locket with them. Returning it to the captain seemed so logical. I mean, the guy died reaching out for it. Of course, maybe we'd have thought differently if we'd successfully appraised it and found out it was quite valuable.
I guess we'll have to go about recovering Ishirou's treasure now!
I think the quality of RP in PbPs here is higher than the usual game, precisely because so many people on the boards are DMs and have had their fill of players who grab teh phat loot and assume every NPC is either a quest-dispenser or convertible into XPs upon death.
I've had the good fortune to play in incredibly immersive rp campaigns off-line and I imagine that's changed my expectations considerably. And I do tend to DM for people who focus on character motivation first without much regard for XP or financial reward. It's not like it's hard to come by gold in 3.x games. Not like it used to be in 2nd ed. anyway.
Gelik comes over, rubbing his eyes. He's still disheveled from sleep, obviously not having had a chance yet to clean and press his clothes with his spells. "I'm beginning to put more stock in these dreams," he says. "Perhaps it would be a good idea if you investigated the west side of the bay today. Follow the beach as far as you can and see what's there."

....said the DM, hint, hint? ;)
Ha! Just be wary for when the NPCs give bad advice. Mwahahahaha! ;)
You did indeed lose me, to the dreaded monster known as Comcast Cable. A storm knocked down the cable line to our house last week, and it took them this long to get a truck out here to fix it. I was about to go bat-S#@) insane without internet, let me tell you.
I'm catching up now. I've no problems with Navior's temporary NPC action for the first round of the combat.

Good to have you back!
I know what you mean about going crazy without the internet. A friend and I have often talked about the fact that we both grew up without this internet thing and never had a problem occupying our time, but now...one hint of it not being there and we're lost. I start to panic if it goes down for just a few minutes. :)
Is anyone else having problems with the Google site? I was trying to look at the map, but it's telling me I don't have permission to view the page.
Very strange. I'm not having any problems, and I've just confirmed that you haven't been mysteriously removed from those with permission to access the site.
Anyone else having difficulties? It could just be Google being funny.
If you want to kick me out of the group, you could be a little less subtle about it. ;)
Do you suppose it would help if I used the link to request access?
EDIT: Can't get it at all. It tells me I have "Insufficent privileges."
Google and I are good friends. It's just mad about all those snippy remarks Douena makes about Lorenz leaving stuff behind or not tying rope tight enough.
I think I know what the problem was. Did your e-mail address change slightly? The address with permission ended with .com, and I've double-checked your original e-mail back in August and that's what that one said. However, your new request has the e-mail end with .net (although the rest is the same). It's now .net that has access.
That's odd. Generally either .com or .net work; I can use either one to sign into my e-mail account, for example. I know my Google account is set up for .net, and it all worked until today. Maybe it's a new security measure by Google? .net is the technically correct ending anyway so it ought to work from here on out.
Maybe it is some new security measure. They've changed a few things about how the site management works recently. The dialogue screen for handling permissions is now a lot different, for example.
Makoa walks up to stand next to Douena, grinning toothily.
"Come on out, we won't bite if you don't!"
Is that a Diplomacy or an Intimidate, Dragonborn? ;)
Javell DeLeon(Male Humanly Awesome 'n Totally Rockin' Paladin of Greatness)
Mahjik looks at Douena conspiratorially, "The question that will keep you up tonight is why are you a place?" He grins broadly, "so we go further west then?"
LOL! I can just imagine Douena's look on that one. Good one, Mahjik! :)
Peering round, Douena sees that curtains of leaves and grasses are draped around the lower portion of the crab. These curtains part just under the crab's mouth; however, they are pulled shut at the moment.
That's just classic!
"Ignore that man behind the curtain! The great OZ has spoken!"
