I as a player don't think he did anything wrong. Gelik is a Pathfinder. He did what he was supposed to do when he found out about the lost city and went to his group to fund and organize an expedition. He didn't claim singular credit because if he did, he would not have come to us with the information of what he did. So far, out of game, Gelik just does not look like a bad guy to me.

That's my thought as well. The only thing I think that was inappropriate was that he didn't talk to us first. But that was as much our fault as his: It's not like anyone told him, "Gelik, the things we learned about the city shouldn't be talked about to anyone." How was he to know? Heck, Lorenz wouldn't have known not to say anything either (though he's not exactly the brightest candle in the candelabra).

Grand Lodge

As far as I can tell, he's the only one with a reason to say something. This is what he does.

No, he didn't. :P

"Really?" Gelik sounds very excited. "Tell me what it says!" After listening to the description, he thinks for a moment, hopping agitatedly from one foot to the other.

Gelik Knowledge (geography): 1d20 + 6
Jask Knowledge (geography): 1d20 + 8

Finally, he shakes his head. "No, I don't recognize it."

All Douena heard when he made his pompous little announcement was I used the party's information to buy myself favor with my own group who are now going to use it to their own advantage whether you like it or not, and I am graciously extending you, the people who actually discovered the information and kept me alive on the island, an invitation to tag along. :P

Grand Lodge

The rolls, successful or not, show that he was helping.

And the rest of what I said stands as well.

Male Human Traveler / 8

Ah, Gelik. From what I've heard, he's often the most popular NPC like this. :)

I think Navior said he has the highest Cha of the castaways.... *shrug*

Male Human Traveler / 8

I meant most popular in that he's the one who either gets killed by the Party or abandoned as soon as possible. But I bet he does have the highest Cha.

Gelik does have the highest Cha (as a bard, he needs it), but high Cha doesn't necessarily mean likable. He also has an almost across-the-board tie for lowest Wis. All the NPCs except Jask and Pezock took Wis as their dump stat. :)

Wander Weir wrote:

Yeah, I knew what you meant. Just goes to show that PCs make their own minds up about who to like instead of being influenced by Diplomacy checks. I mentioned something about it when Douena and Pezock hit it off so well, although I'm sure he's one of the lower-Cha island denizens. Sasha seems to be a blanket favorite (in the non-ironic sense) -- but then again, they drew her as a hot redhead, while they drew Gelik as some sort of cranky-looking something that looks nothing like a Golarion gnome. (James Jacobs is on the record as unhappy with the castaway artwork.)

Then again, even a PC has to purposefully make a Diplomacy check to influence another's opinion. Gelik never even made an effort with anyone but Lorenz.

Gelik's artwork is definitely the weakest in depicting what he should look like. The thing is though, if you knew nothing about Golarion gnomes and just read the description of his appearance, the artwork would seem to fit perfectly.

The artwork for the others works better, although Jask is too muscular for a character with Str 9. Sasha's sexily torn shirt is rather over the top, but I suppose at least it's balanced by Jask also having a sexily torn shirt to show off the muscles he shouldn't have. :)

If anybody's interested, here are the NPCs' stats:

Gelik: Str 10, Dex 14, Con 15, Int 10, Wis 8, Cha 17
Ishirou: Str 17, Dex 14, Con 12, Int 13, Wis 8, Cha 10
Jask: Str 9, Dex 11, Con 7, Int 16, Wis 16, Cha 15
Sasha: Str 12, Dex 17, Con 14, Int 10, Wis 8, Cha 13
Pezock: Str 13, Dex 17, Con 12, Int 12, Wis 12, Cha 8

And for reference:
Aerys: Str 14, Dex 15, Con 12, Int 12, Wis 8, Cha 13

Male Human Traveler / 8

Man, Jask got rough physical stats. Is he middle-aged or something? Well I guess with the high mental scores he's probably appropriately balanced for the stat buy.

Sasha's torn shirt is definitely over the top.

Anyway, Gelik's caustic humor is what really gets in the way with people, I imagine. Sasha is hard not to like because of her enthusiasm. From what I've heard from a friend who is running the AP, both of those qualities are part of the NPC descriptions at least.

Still, the NPCs are one of the best parts of this AP and I think that's a tribute to both the writer and the DM. :)

Navior wrote:

Which is pretty much what happened, to hear James Jacobs tell it. He also thought Ishirou was too old and Jask too young, when it was supposed to be the other way around. I don't think he had any particular complaints about the others. He might not have been thrilled about the torn shirt, IIRC, but I guess they had to show off the Red Mantis tattoo somehow. It's a step up from a chainmail bikini, right? :)

EDIT for Wander Weir: Yes, I think Jask takes at least one category of age penalties/bonuses.

The NPCs' stats are all built from the standard NPC array of 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 and then adjusted for racial bonuses. It works out to a 15-point buy, so they're a little weaker than the PCs. Jask is indeed middle-aged and so has taken the appropriate penalties to his physical stats and the bonuses to his mental.

The description of Ishirou describes him as appearing "much older than he is", so I think that's why the picture makes him look so old. However, the artist probably did go a little overboard. Jask's description says his hair is starting to gray, and if you look closely at the picture, that does seem to be the case. However, from a distance, the grey looks more like shading. Personally, I think he looks convincingly mid- to late-thirties, which is middle-aged in game terms.

And Sasha's torn shirt is definitely better than a chainmail bikini, yes! :)

*sigh* The worst part is that it seems about right for outside the game as well.

Especially in the jungle!

Shadow Lodge

I'm sure Lorenz would think otherwise by now.

Nah. Insect bites and rashes are NOT attractive. :) Well, maybe to Makoa they are.

Shadow Lodge

Bug bites are bad no matter who raised you.

Is this a real-world chameleon whose color change is determined by physiology and temperature, kind of like a living mood ring, or a Hollywood chameleon of the type featured at the 2:10 mark of this video?

The Hollywood version. More fun that way. :)

Well, that puts Douena at half of Wealth By Level, and virtually all of that is scrolls. For personal gear, she has padded armor and a masterwork starknife. If Gelik hadn't blabbed, we could have sold our information to Pathfinders. :P

Serpent's Skull has a bit of a reputation for being skimpy on treasure. I have plans to rectify that shortly. :)

Updating Douena in HeroLab, at some point on the island she edged over light encumbrance. I'm going to assume that at the point she realized she was getting too bulky to be light on her feet, she left behind some of her sling bullets at camp; they're virtually all of her weight, and she never even fired one.

Sure, no problem.

I'm currently visiting family for the holidays, so posting may be sporadic over the next few days. I expect that's probably true for many of us. Happy holidays! :)

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

I can't help but think "The Shipwrecked's Expedition" could be a good name, if not very creative.

Grand Lodge

Trying to be diplomatic and rub Douena's nose in it at the same time.

Male Human Traveler / 8

I'd have voted for the Survivor's Expedition. Had we an opportunity to vote for a name. Ah well.

Oh, and Happy New Year all! Looking forward to another year of fun and games with you folk. Though the going back to work bit is a real drag.

Wander Weir wrote:

Kind of a bummer when you don't get any input into a major decision but just have someone unilaterally make it for you, eh, Lorenz? ;)

*laugh* Touché!

I've been thinking about it and you're right. That's a good comparison.

Besides, we've all seen your mimics and the 'mastery' of them. ;)

Okay, getting confused as to who's where right now.

At Bergi's inn: Ishirou, Aakif

In the Pathfinder Lodge: Jask, Lorenz, Urza, Gelik

Outside the Pathfinder Lodge: Pezock, Douena, Sasha, Mahjik

Undeclared: Makoa

All right, that's all eleven of us. Hey, DB3, I've seen you posting elsewhere! Have you forgotten us again? As punishment, I decree Makoa is stuck in the humdrumvee with the negotiators instead of coming in the funvee with the rest of us. ;)

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

I was going to stay anyway, just so Douena would have to deal with the fact he knows if se gets a tiara or not.

Figured it was a pretty safe bet; the half-orcs usually stick together. :)

Grand Lodge

I was wondering how long you planned on keeping Aakif around? No reason, just curious.

I'm assuming he'll go his own way from Eleder.

Grand Lodge

Or he'll get killed by another faction that finds out about our expedition.
**Que Indiana Jones theme**

Heh, I hadn't thought of that last idea, Dax. :)

I actually have thought of what to do with Aakif and Joana pretty much nailed it. I was planning to have him announce his decision soon.

Grand Lodge

I'm a bit surprised you haven't had some of the npc castaways go their own way. It can't be easy maintaining them all.

On a similar note, are we going to continue with the 5 PCs plus npcs or are we going to recruit back up to 6 PCs?

Male Human Traveler / 8

Personally, I like the group we have right now. I don't really think we need a sixth PC. Of course, if Navior would rather have an even six, that'd be fine too.

+1 for the status quo: 4-1/2* PCs, plus 4 'cohorts.'

I wouldn't be too upset if Ishirou left, as he hardly says anything anyway but I want to keep the other 3 still with us for the journey. Having them around gives us some backup healing and skills and combat, but if we give them equal shares of treasure, we're more than paying for a wand of cure light and whatever resources we're getting out of Jask and the others. Plus, Pezock, being lower level, is going to keep soaking up Douena's in-combat healing, so I don't think it makes it imbalanced. For every benefit we're getting out of them, we're taking a hit in treasure and resources for keeping them as part of the party.

Now, when and if Gelik rejoins us, then we'll have someone who's a significant drag on the party with limited upside. ;)

*:
Because Makoa is only intermittently here. ;)

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

I saw that asterisk. I'm here, just with very little to say to you "civilized" folk. :P

Speak of the devil, and he appears. ;)

Male Half-Orc Barbarian(Totem Warrior/Invulnerable Rager) : 2 Druid(Wolf Shaman) : 4

Well, DUH!

Didn't ya see my red eyes? Thought that was a dead give away...

I'm happy with the number we have at the moment, and don't see the need to look for another player.

Grand Lodge

Works for me. I only brought it up because this seemed to be a good spot if you had wanted to.

Okay, Dax, you're going to hate me, but I've misplaced how much everyone's share to equip themselves with is again. Also, how much did we end up getting up front from the Pathfinders?

Grand Lodge

From loot:
GP 1350

From Pathfinders:
Credit for the discovery
Naming rights to the expedition
GP 750 gp each (Douena GP 700 + tiara)
Wayfinder
Food, supplies & hirelings
Anything found before Saventh-Yhi

Once we reach Saventh Yhi we also get:
20% of the treasure in Saventh-Yhi
GP 1500
Pathfinder Membership or GP 500 or equivalent

So for right now, I've got 2050 to spend in town, and everyone else has 2100? Putting it in my profile now so I don't forget again.

It should be noted that the money from the Pathfinders hasn't been paid yet. They're going to pay you tomorrow.
