So I presume that lovely version of Desna's favored weapon is Medium and not Small? :P
Ha! I didn't even think of that. The book doesn't specify, so default is Medium. However, a GM has to be benevolent once in a while, so I'll say it's Small. :)
Anyone think mending could fix the noble's outfits?
On a very slightly related note, I remembered my Favored Soul of Desna who had a starknife shaped like a butterfly...
Spoiler:
and the artifact she was given called the "Tear of Desna" which was a tiny obsidian butterfly that was so sharp and fast it created a vacuum when it flew. End up killing over a thousand townsfolk(and the zombies it was supposed to kill in the first place) and ultimately sent her into her evil personality permanently.
Well, there is the unlikely chance that the river we put her on wasn't big enough at one point to let the raft through, so we could still find her... though we may not want to.
Hm, she died before we broke the evil altar, so she could technically have animated as an undead and made it back to shore looking to kill us all before we rid the island of the curse. Don't know how we'd find her, though.
That's a good point, Joana. For all we know, her body is caught halfway up the cliffs by the village where she was climbing to kill everyone in their sleep.

And now it's time to party like a bunch of Ewoks! Hurray! Anybody know how to make moonshine?
Is that supposed to be a joke? I was raised by wolves, of course I know how to make moonshine! What did you think we drank every time we brought down an elk?

Hmmm...that sounds like a moonshine made of...questionable...ingredients.
Sorry about the lack of updates the last two days. It's been another crazy weekend.
Since there's not much left for you to do on the island except wait for a rescue ship to arrive, I'm going to be skimming over a few days. However, feel free to let me know of anything specific you'd like to do over those few days. Also, feel free to roleplay stuff during those days. I'll probably do the skimming post sometime tomorrow.
There's a few items I have noted under party treasure, before we get back to civilization and merchant stalls, does anyone want any of them?
- ring of swimming
- aberration slaying arrow does Lorenz have this already?
- incense of meditation
- card from deck of illusions (peryton)
- candle of truth
- Ring of Mind Shielding Urza would like this one
Yarzoth potion ??
spellcraft 1d20+7
If that roll doesn't make it, he will continue to try each morning. Urza will take the time to show Jask and the others the painting on the wall in the 'evil temple'. Maybe they can figure out more than we could. I think Gelik is an explorer or archaeologist and might be able to provide some insight.
Lorenz does have the aberration slaying arrow in his inventory. That's the only thing he's particularly likely to benefit from in the above list.

The candle of truth might be worth holding onto in case we need to interrogate someone down the road. The incense of meditation is only useful to Douena or Makoa, although it certainly requires a lot of advance notice of when maximized cure spells are going to be useful. Probably would have been good before the assault on the cannibal village, for example. Ring of swimming? Either sell it or give it to the PC with the lowest Swim check until they get 2 better rings. Maybe give the illusion card to Gelik as a lovely parting gift?
Lorenz actually made it through without getting sick a single time. Thanks for taking them for the team, Mahjik!
See? Desna does like him at least a little!
I don't believe Douena ever got sick either, which is good for everyone. Remember how whiny she got when she was bored or hot and multiply it by actually having something tangible to complain about.
I bet there's plenty of diseases in the jungle, as well, though!

This is what's left of our loot. Does anyone want anything or do we sell or give some to npc's?
I think the buckler is +1 darkwood; don't know if anyone can use it. Keep the potions for group use. How are we going to handle equipping the NPCs we're taking with us? Will they level up at all as we do?

The NPCs will be levelling up, but I'm not keeping strict track of XP for them, so it's whenever I happen to decide they should level up. I'm going to be raising them to 3rd level now that you're leaving the island. As long as they remain around the group, they'll always be a little behind the rest of you.
So kinda like cohorts or something, then. That's cool. Should we give the ones we're taking with us portions of the treasure to equip themselves with? They won't last long with 2nd-level wealth. I think Pezock's already taken a buckler or something, hasn't he? And who all's going with us? Douena wants Sasha and Pezock. (Sadly, neither of them are the ones who fill in our Knowledge skill gaps.)
Lorenz hopes both Sasha and Gelik comes with us. Jask would be handy too, though.
I think we should hold on to the ring of swimming just in case but other than that and the potions, the rest of that stuff could be sold as far as I'm concerned.
I say we try to give the NPCs who are coming with us a fair amount of the coin we've plundered (we also have that chest we found in the captain's cabin of the Jenivere) so they can buy themselves some goods in Eleder.
Jask would be helpful, as he has both Knowledge (geography) and Heal and can thus prevent Douena from jumping to wild conclusions about vampirism and such.
Btw, I think you typed "Gelik" when you meant to type "Pezock." ;)

I'm not sure anyone can keep Douena from jumping to conclusions. :)

Nuh uh!
Besides, Gelik knows stuff. Heck, he can make stuff like lighthouses work!

At least it's an opposing viewpoint, though, instead of everyone depending on Douena to tell them what's wrong with someone. Do you really want to be at the exclusive mercy of her bedside manner?

Good point. Okay, I'm all for Jask coming, but I still want Gelik there too!
I don't think Gelik will come. It'll be too dirty, and his hat might get torn. Do you really want to put him through that kind of trauma all over again?

With prestidigitation and mending, neither of those are particular concerns for Gelik. Besides, we need someone to entertain us. A good humorous story is just what the party needs after a long day of slogging through the jungle, being eaten alive by insects and plagued with diseases.
Actually, Gelik is very excited about the possibility of finding a lost city. However, he also wants to get the Pathfinders involved, which the party might not want.
You said that you only skimmed the rules and if you used them you would want to do a complete change over. Allowing me to use the system would allow both of us to have first hand knowledge of it. It would let you see if it is worthwhile as the only magic system.
What keeps it in my head is that is makes 'sense' for a sorcerer to use a less sophisticated system than the normal one. The Words of Power reflect that.
From what I've figured so far many of the more sophisticated or complicated spells can't be emulated with it.
- Color Spray: can't copy the stacked effects nor the effect even if saved against
- Magic Missile: can't copy the auto hit, must put in extra umph for the range
- Fireball: smaller radius without increasing spell level
- Overland Flight: can't copy the duration
- Black Tentacles: can't do it
It is good for blasting, though, and I do admit to being a blaster.
- Touch attack: damage a single foe in melee or at range with an energy type
- Radius: Reflex save v an energy type in a 10'r
- Power Word X: only appropriate for a system called Words of Power
They decided to keep the interaction between the two systems very simple. Even though one is either a spell caster or a word caster, there is no differentiating in what items one could use. I could still use a scroll, wand, or metamagic rod as normal. In item creation, I would need to be able to emulate a spell or it would count against me.
"Would this work?" Mahjik points to a set of coconuts.
Craft a floatation device to act as tools/circumstance bonus (+2) for Soulwind.
Sorry; that only works on Gilligan's island.
Don't know Gilligan's island (other than hearsay) - but coconuts are easy floaters, and enough of them make for a lot of buoyancy. Don't know what wacky things you've seen on Survivor, but it works.
I draw my expertise from having seen the movie Up; and apply the scientific principle of equivalence vis-a-vis balloon-coconut, house-horse and atmosphere-ocean.

The Professor was able to build virtually any form of technology up to and including a working radio out of coconuts and bamboo, although obviously the construction of a simple boat to get them off the island was beyond him. :)

Right, because Pixar is physics-friendly. What were those strings made out of, some sort of titanium alloy? ;)

There's even a song about it:
I liked the professor.
He always saved their butts.
He could build a nuclear reactor
from a couple of coconuts.
She said, That guy's a genius
I shook my head and laughed
I said, if he's so fly, then tell me why
He couldn't build a lousy raft
This is my second PbP AP to make it to book two. Of course, that one doesn't have the original DM. And that one only took 3,856 posts to get through book one: partly because there was more combat, but probably mostly because my character in that one doesn't talk nearly as much as Douena does. :)
Loot List
3500 cp
2000 sp
1000 gp
50 pp
silk pouch of garnets and amethysts (total value: 500 gp)
buckler +1 1300GP
watertight mithral scroll tube (value 500 gp)
ring of swimming 2500GP
incense of meditation 4900GP
card from deck of illusions (peryton) Gelik
candle of truth 2500GP
Assumptions:
- after several days I've successfully identified the magic buckler.
- it is a +1 buckler.
- no one wants any of the items on the list above
- Gelik gets the card from the deck of illusions so I didn't have to work out how much one card was worth
- we sell all remaining items at half value
After that we have 13935GP. Divided among 11 people (5 current PCs, 5 NPCs, and Aakif) that comes to 13860GP each. The remaining 75GP goes toward our room and board for a few days, basic outfitting and a rowdy good time.
Does your total include the coffer full of coins that Lorenz has been carrying around, Dax? I'm not sure how much was in it, but we found it in the captain's cabin of the Jenivere.
Also, I don't think we should sell the ring of swimming. It might be a good idea to hold onto that in case we run into any future lakes or rivers.
