Translation: You're scared to make the roll because you don't have the modifiers. I know the feeling. :) Did anyone put any ranks into Diplomacy?!?
Heh. Nope.
All that work on the NPC castaways and nobody thought they might need it for other NPCs. :)
Overall, Douena and Urza have the best Diplomacy scores, then Aakif, and then Lorenz. Keep in mind you can use aid another on Diplomacy too.

Just a note to say that I'm going to be away this weekend and my internet access, if any, will be limited. My wife and I are taking the dogs and going up to a friend's parents' cottage. We're leaving Saturday morning and coming back on Monday. As such, I probably won't be able to get any posts in between Saturday and Monday. Things will resume as normal sometime on Monday though! :)

We'll just keep going and clear out the island while you're gone, then, all right? You can tell us all the treasure we've found when you get back. ;)
Sure! No problem! I should you warn you, though, that when I'm away, the monsters and villains have a tendency to sneak off on vacation, too (and take their treasures with them). I keep telling them not to, but they do it anyway. They are monsters and villains after all, and not good at following orders. ;)

Navior wrote:I'm back! And I've discovered that all my dots and x new markers are gone again.Oh, yes, those. Douena got bored while you were gone and hid them all. ;)
Aha! So that's where they go each time. I'm sure if we dumped her pack out, we'd find a whole bunch of those dots. :)
Welcome back, Navior! Hope you had a good time.
We did! They have a huge house with a giant yard, which was great for the dogs. I mentioned before that one of my dogs, Pan, has a bad leg and it was looking like cancer. Well, the good news after his latest x-rays last week is that they no longer think it's cancer! They think it might just be an old racing injury (he's a rescued greyhound) that has become arthritic. At any rate, he's no longer barred from running. He had months of pent-up energy that had left him very hyper. Well, suffice it to say, he had the time of his life tearing around that yard. Not to leave out my other dog, Frey, I should mention that he had just as good a time.
I got a lot of writing done while I was there, so I'm really happy about that. I only actually spent about four hours collectively writing while I was there, but in that little amount of time, I got more done than I usually do in two full days (16 hours) of writing. It's amazing what a change of environment can do!
My wife had a great time, too, doing...well, not much really, but that's what she loved about it!

Douena Trestleben wrote:"All right," Douena answers brightly. "Everyone get ready." She walks to the southernmost fungus bridge A39, waves enthusiastically at the vegepygmies, and calls out in a friendly manner, "Hey, plant people! Can we come on your ship?"Ha! That is simply hilarious!
Hey, I gave everyone 5 hours to come up with a non-Douena plan. You have no one to blame but yourselves. (Well, except for those of you in a different time zone who may have been asleep for the last 5 hours. You're excused.) ;)

Whoa, another slow day. I'd blame it on the approach of the US Thanksgiving but I thought several people are from elsewhere.
What next? Is Douena and her evil mold-puppets going to kill us all?
Combats tend to be when we're at our slowest-paced (particularly if it's also a weekend), and we've had a couple combats in a row, so it's causing things to drag out a little longer. I'll be moving things along soon.
Joana |
:P Looks like Douena shouldn't have withdrawn so far; she could have run up and healed Vegepygmy #5 or whatever its name is. Guess she could still move up far enough to channel on her turn and get it in the radius, although I don't know if that would be enough to get it on its feet -- or if they'd stop attacking us, even if she did.
Joana |
If the group wishes to attempt negotiation, we can leave rounds at this point (for the time being at any rate). Else, Aakif is up next.
Obviously, Douena is in favor of negotiations. It's going to be really awkward if we end up having to kill them anyway to take care of the evil-spreading-mold thing, though. I'm hoping they're merely taking advantage of the situation and not the cause of it; I mean, they're just vegepygmies, right? :)
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US!

@ Aakif
Sorry to but in on your game, but I just wanted to catch Aakif, aka William, aka Cal in Atapax's Kingmaker game. Just wanted to find out if Cal was still wanting to play in the game, or his interest had waned. Wondered if Cal wouldn't mind putting in an appearance and let us know, cos we're struggling to keep it going and it started out as such a good bunch of players. If you want to let rip at the rest of us or something and let us know if you're still wanting to play and what we can do to make it start up again, then we should all start to speak up on the discussion thread for Atapax's Kingmaker game.
Thanks for putting up with this interruption.

Douena makes her way across the bridge, followed by Mahjik. The vegepygmies motion a couple more times at the remainder of the party to cross. After everyone has crossed who is going to cross (unless you state you are crossing, I will assume you are not crossing; however, it's not too late to state you are crossing), the vegepygmies cross back over themselves.
lol!
What? I'm confused. Something to do with a cross? Crossing over so as not to get double crossed? Cross class skills? Do I cross my heart? Is uncrossing a word? Oh! Cross that bridge bef...um, wait, that makes no sense. What?! *throws arms up and walks away*
Javell DeLeon |
Heh. I did manage to use the word cross a lot in that sentence, didn't I? :)
Good stuff though! Reminds me of 'Who's on first' type thing. :)
@pbp: Just eat the fungus soup, Douena, Mahjik! Come on! What could possibly go wrong? ;)
LoreKeeper |
Douena gazes at Lorenz with concern. "If you didn't want to eat the fungus, then you should have stayed on the shore. They don't seem to like to have their hospitality refused." She grows a bit indignant. "If I ate that mushroom and maybe poisoned myself just to make friends with these plant-people, you'd better not waste the effort by making them mad again. We could have fought our way out without eating the fungus."
...I love Douena... lol :)
Wander Weir |
Well, there goes the ruckus. Sorry guys. For some reason I'd imagined that Douena and Mahjik were in a cabin or in the hold and that Lorenz would be able to get to the ship without being immediately caught. I hadn't actually intended to spark off the hostilities but I clearly didn't think it through very well. I blame it on my head cold.
Joana |
Mahjik the Flink wrote:One way or another, we'll get to a head really soon I expect :)So true. Man, Douena's never going to forgive Lorenz.
It's mostly that his timing is, as always, peccable. He could have charged across to the rescue after the pygmies refused to let Douena and Mahjik search the ship and been a hero. Or he could have crossed the bridge sooner and helped talk her out of eating the fungus. But no, he shows up after she's possibly poisoned herself but before she realizes any reward for doing so. There's a lot of 'Where the heck were you 10 seconds ago?' in her rant. :)

Douena Trestleben wrote:Btw, Aakif has posted a few times in the forums under his main avatar over the holiday, so he's around....Oops.
Well, he hasn't been in the play-by-post forums, but I saw him post a report in the playtest section. That said, it's probably pretty much a no-brainer for anyone on the shore to assume we're in trouble and under attack, seeing Lorenz retreating and spears flying at him. Seems like an intuitive action.
EDIT: Now, Dragonborn3 I haven't seen since Thanksgiving, but he usually doesn't post much on the weekends. His last post had a readied action, however:
Makoa growls as Douena and Mahjik cross the bridge, but stops when he sees that Douena is let by unharmed. He puts his axe and shield away waits.
Readied action to cross the bridge is things get worse.

I was out of town and had limited internet access time, most of which I used to play that game I posted about in the playtest forum, heh. And yeah, Aakif pretty much agrees with Lorenz's take on the situation; these guys ambushed us and have shown no real attempts to be friendly, not to mention that Douena's own dream warned of a major threat from the fungus. Really the only reason he stopped fighting in the first place is that Douena was getting so upset about it.

Aakif is now Lorenz's favorite person. :)
Javell DeLeon |
Yeah, I figured out the piercing DR earlier, which was one of the reasons Lorenz went aboard the ship. Anyway, that's exactly what Lorenz was going to do, so you got him in the right place. But also...
"I think they've decided to join the Mold-Men," Lorenz says at last. "Douena said horrible things about me, ate some of the fungus and then they all attacked me when I wouldn't do it too."
He sniffled and bit his lip to hold back the anguish.
Are you kiddin' me! Are you a man or a flumph! This is what Douena has reduced you to, isn't it? ISN'T IT!
You know what makes me sad, YOU DO! WHY DON'T WE JUST RUN OFF TO NAMBY PAMBY LAND AND SEE IF WE CAN FIND YOU A BACKBONE, YOU JACKWAGON! :)
LOL on the post btw.

DM, I know there's at least one door on deck that they kept going down to get the bowls of fungus. Are there any other doors that Douena has seen, like to a captain's cabin or anything? And where are they on the map?
The door that they were using leads under the aftcastle. It's positioned at roughly -D19, but you have to go down the steps to get to it (or jump down). There is also a hatch to the lower decks (obscured on the map because of the rigging) at -J20. Finally, there is the large cargo hatch (heavily covered with fungus and mold, but might still be possible to open) covering roughly -G19,20,21 and -H19,20,21.
