I'm a bit conflicted about that attack. I mean, I love it when Chuffy can lay the smack down, but it hurts that it was on the alter ego. Damn those goblin heroes!"

Well, I could have Gilfroy cast an obscuring mist to allow them to regroup, but unfortunately, the party's formation isnt' that bad and they aren't being surrounded, so it's not something he'd think of.

Gilfroy aims his crossbow up at the goblin in the doorway and looses.
Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

His bolt sails up, up, and away, over the buildings and into the marsh beyond.

Chuffy doesn't actually get the sneak attack as goblin #8 is 5 feet up on the walkway, so they're not technically flanking. So, he does 4 points less damage. However, combined with the other damage Malan has taken this combat, it's still enough to take him down. I believe that puts him at -4.

As Gilfroy shoots a crossbow bolt off into the wide blue yonder, the sneaky goblin comes out from under the building and delivers a savage blow to Malan. The elf collapses.

Malan stabilization check: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 1 - 4 = 3 -- fail
1 more point of damage.

Next Up: Corinna, Walthus, Blue Rajah, Melon, Aago, Goblins, Gilfroy, Chuffy, Malan (unconscious).

Female Human (Chelaxian) Wizard (conjuration) 2

Behind the wooden palisade, Corinna forces herself to take long, deep breaths to calm herself down as her fingers fumble a bolt into her crossbow. Her weapon loaded, she gulps and then steps back out into the open, ready to fire. What she sees, however, terrifies her. Shalelu's apprentice is lying on the ground in a heap, a goblin near him waving a bloody blade gleefully. Everything has obviously gone horribly wrong. It was all a clever plan by the goblins to ambush them. I didn't think goblins were that clever. "Young man," she calls out to the Blue Rajah, "step out of the way." Her arms trembling, she tries to aim at the goblin on the far side of the pit and holds her fingers over the trigger to release the bolt as soon as she has a clear shot. They have to hold the goblins off long enough for everyone to get out!

Load crossbow; 5-foot-step to L 65; Ready action to shoot Chuffy when Rajah steps out of the way: Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 damage 1d8 ⇒ 3

EDIT: Extra -4 if Chuffy's in melee at the time, but with a 12, it doesn't matter anyway.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Wizard (conjuration) 2

Ha! I still forgot the bless again. Don't think a 13 will hit Chuffy anyway.

Given the change in situation, I've presumed that Aago would continue a bit farther and have moved him to P 66 instead of O 66. Also, even going around the pit, that comes to exactly 30 ft of movement, so he can still attack at the end of it. I'll presume that's what he does.

Aago unarmed strike at #4: 1d20 + 3 + 1 -- hit
Damage: 1d6 + 3

Aago moves around the pit and comes at #4. With a quick strike, the goblin ends up face-first in the dirt.

Given the way that worked out, I'm definitely happy with the revision. I wasn't sure about the movement around the pit so I erred on the side of caution. Thanks, Navior.

"More of them? It's like we stepped in a bee hive. A particularly stinky one."

Walthus steps under the walkway, setting up a flank with Aago (5-ft step to R 64, under goblin #8) and then attacks.

Walthus handaxe at goblin #5, favoured enemy, flanking: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 20 -- hit

The axe lands in the goblin's chest. The goblin collapses in a pool of blood.

Seeing Malan bleeding to death, Rajah moves around the pit and past Melon in an attempt to help him. "Excuse me, love." He says as he moves past her to Malan. Seeing the hideous goblin standing right next to him, "Excuse me." He tells it as he bends down and lays a healing hand upon Malan.

Rajah moves rather nonchalantly round the pit and up to the unconscious Malan. As soon as he's clear of Corinna's path, she looses her crossbow bolt at the ugly goblin, but it flies too far to the right and misses. Rajah passes Melon and then politely leans over and exposes himself to attack from the ugly (and perhaps somewhat surprised) goblin that is now standing right beside him.

Next Up: Attack of Opportunity from Chuffy, Melon, Aago, Goblins, Gilfroy, Chuffy, Malan, Walthus, Corinna, Blue Rajah.

CORRECTION!
Rajah's action does not attract an attack of opportunity. Chuffy is simply too surprised by Rajah's boldness to be able to get in an attack. :)

Rajah successfully heals Malan. He is now stable at -1 hp.

I'm not entirely sure I understand the set-up of the map. The goblins are on a walkway above us, right? How high up is that? Is there a way up there that Aago can see? Or should he just try a jump and climb?

I think Navior said they are 5ft up

Aago Belwas wrote:

The walkways are 5 ft up, so people on the ground have reach into them and vice versa. There are ladders up to the walkways and buildings at various points indicated on the map (although the ladder at Q66, just south of Aago, is obscured by the goblin token; however, it's still there and in place). These ladders can be used to climb onto the walkways without needing to make any checks, but cost an extra 5 ft of movement. You can get onto the walkways from any other location by using Acrobatics (DC 10) or Climb (DC 5) at standard movement penalties (1/2 speed for Acrobatics; 1/4 speed for Climb unless you take a -5 penalty to the roll, in which case it's half speed).

You can go under walkways (and under buildings), but Medium creatures must squeeze in order to do so. Small creatures suffer no penalties for going under walkways.

Melon steps over Malan and, with a single strike, sends the ugly goblin sprawling.

Thanks for the explanation. That makes it all a lot easier.

Aago glances at the goblins on the walkway and steps over to climb up.

Move to Q66. Climb up: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8

Once up on the walkway, he steps up to the nearest goblin and punches at it with one fist. Unfortunately, his feet were slippery with blood after stepping over a goblin body and he almost looses his footing with the strike, missing entirely.

Move to R66 and attack 08: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 3 + 1 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Aago easily makes it onto the walkway, but his near slip means he misses the goblin. That goblin laughs at him and attacks with his dogslicer, as do the other goblins, #9 reaching over the edge of the walkway to attack Melon.

Goblin #7 doglsicer at Aago: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Goblin #8 doglsicer at Aago: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Total damage to Aago: 4
Goblin #9 doglsicer at Melon, height advantage: 1d20 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 2 + 1 = 19 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 2

All three goblins' weapons successfully finding their targets. #8 sticks out his tongue at Aago.

Hm. Malan waking up with Melon standing over him. Should be an "interesting" visual. :)

Actually, Navior, with his Snapping Turtle style, Aago would be able to deflect that first hit, though still taking the greater damage from the other.

Aago grins, even as he winces at the cut he takes from one of the goblins. "Retreat? We've only just started fighting!"

Balling the fist of his right hand while he keeps his left arm ready to deflect attacks, he strikes the goblin hard in the ribs.

Attack Goblin 08: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17

Aago Belwas wrote:

Ah right, it would. Although technically, I don't think you ever stated you were activating Snapping Turtle Style (which takes a swift action). However, we'll let that go. The first hit misses and I'll add Snapping Turtle to the active effects. :)

IMPORTANT REQUEST: As I think of it now, I've noticed some other GMs on the boards like PCs to list their current AC and hp with each post during combat. I can see how that can be really helpful, so if people don't mind, I'd like to ask everyone to start doing that here (and in Serpent's Skull). However, with all due respect to Lorekeeper, I'd like to ask that you don't include initiative number. I only use the initiative numbers to set up the initial order. Since that order can then frequently change due to readied and delayed actions, the numbers just become confusing after that. :)
Thanks, all!

Yes, he did, and I totally forgot about it. Thanks for the reminder! :)

Aago strikes at the goblin beside him. There's a sickening crack as the goblin's ribs break. With a whimper the goblin falls over.

Goblin #9, looking a little panicked moves up to Walthus (5-ft step to R 62) and attacks, while #7 attacks Aago.

Which ladder? There's a ladder at Q 66 that goes into the hut at Q 67 (that door is currently open). There's another ladder at P 59; that one goes to the walkway at P 58. However, there is no ladder going directly onto the walkway just south of Malan.
