Unless Chingo wants us to start out as strangers does anyone want to establish bonds or history with Aralu? Her kind are generally strange and have a hard time fitting in because they don't show emotions, although they still supposedly have them.

My profile is fleshed out, with Personality, Appearance, Background, and Crunch.
I think it all depends on how long we have been working for this Caravan-Monger.
How long have we all been working on this caravan?
ALSO, how do I calculate my DR? Do I gain DR from both armor worn and class levels?
ALSO ALSO: Can I start with a Foci? What would it cost, what would its' form need to take, and how would its mechanical function work?
ALSO ALSO ALSO: Are Mystweavers seen like real world witches by commonfolk of societies or no? (specifically, the societies we will be interacting with). I understand that my Lycanthropic nature is seen as foreign and reprehensible by most, but what of the wizahdz?
Thanks.

Aralu |

Well we could have known each other from before the caravan...
Defense bonus does not apply to DR, armor grants DR exclusively. According to the pdf, a character doesn't get the defense bonus when equipped with armor. But I think Chingo is allowing characters to gain either the defense bonus or the armor bonus, whichever is better for AC.
I think that's right, but I'm sure Chingo will clarify.

I checked your profile, Rhanviel. Good stuff. I like how much work you're putting into the character.
Answers:
- You have been traveling with the caravan for three days.
- Aralu is right. You only gain DR from armor. The DR from the armor is equal to its armor bonus. You get a Defense Bonus from your class. Defense bonus and armor bonus does not stack. If your character is wearing armor, you use the higher of the bonuses to calculate AC. The exception being the Fighter who has a slower Defense Bonus progression but gets Armor Compatibility, which allows him to stack his Defense Bonus with his armor bonuses.

Armor Compatibility
Because they are trained to shrug off blows rather than relying on agility to dodge them, fighters have lower natural Defense bonuses than other fighting classes. However, fighters benefit more from armor. When a fighter wears armor or carries a shield, his class Defense bonus stacks with the equipment bonuses of the armor and shield.
- You can start with a foci. It would cost 200 gp, take whatever form you want, and it'll reduce casting time with 1 action. The reduced casting time for foci doesn't stack. The foci with the highest casting time reduction applies.
- Most commonfolk are cautious around Mystweavers, as it is known they wield great power. Some fear them. Some respect them. Typically Mystweavers aren't lynched and burned at the stake as witches in the real world. The lord of Palanost (where the caravan is heading), Auric Brightspell, is a Mystweaver, as is Queen Elsefir Silverleaf, the regent of Andara.

Wooo! I'm excited for this.
1) Are racial languages a thing in this or does everyone just know Common? I still need to choose my languages for my Int score and don't really know what would be useful.
2) Assuming that the racial trait doesn't mean I start with 2 ragh naka, how much do they cost from my starting gold?

Rhanviel Thuven |

I don't have enough gold for a foci, but I'm alright with not starting with one. Makes for role-playing and good playtesting. I'll pick one up in game when I can afford it.

Chingo Chaplo |

Armor does give a bonus to AC. So does Defense Bonus. But the two does not stack. You use the higher of the bonuses to calculate AC.
Armor also grants DR.
I see you're wearing a studded leather armor. Both your Defense Bonus and the armor bonus is +3, so you get +3 to AC. In addition you get DR 3 from the studded leather armor.

Chingo Chaplo |

Here are some examples of languages:
- Andaran (andaran is the primary language spoken in Andara)
- Gelbenese (Gelben is the nation northeast of Andara)
- Aratheël (spoken by aratheël and many sylvan creatures)
- Dhouvarr (spoken by the dhouvarr)
- Urak (spoken by uraks)
- Ylrimish (spoken by the Ylrim barbarians of the Ylrim mountains)
- Arglondaran (Arglondar is a nation south of Andara, beyond the Ylrim Mountains)
- Kholdrathan (spoken by the people of Kholdrath in northern Korthas)
- Iltaani (a dead language found in ancient ruins and texts)
- Draconic (spoken by dragons and draconians)
- Damaskaran (spoken by the damaskari. Damaskar lies east of Andara)

Two things Chingo
1. What does a shambler look like?
2. Was the entire party supposed to hear Lambrecht yelling about the shamblers, or is Aralu having some sort of vision?

Chingo Chaplo |

1. They look like humans, but they have pale white skin and their clothes are torn. Their eyes are blank and their mouths are unnaturally wide open, and they give off a rotten stench. They walk with an awkward gait, hence the name shambler. It's a zombie
2. Everyone is awakened by Lambrecht's yelling.

My goodness, thank you. My phone was displaying Rhanviel's post twice instead of his and then yours. Now I feel pretty dumb. Sorry about that.

Chingo Chaplo |

Rhanviel moves forward 20 feet, beginning to chant words of an older age, crushing a nib of charcoal between his fingers. His breathing becomes heavy as he traces lines in the gravel with his feet, crushing the charcoal dust.
Ritual Roll: 1d2 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Using Standard Action to start the weaving. Thanks Chingo. At different scenes should I ask you OOC what the Myst level is, or is there perhaps a skill check I can make to determine what I 'sense', etc.? What dost thou thinketh?
1) What's the Ritual Roll about?
1) I think as a Mystweaver you'd probably have the ability to sense the Myst, though not in the way that a character with Mystsight can see it.
I'll let you know when you need to know and when you inquire.

Are undead immune to death-like stuff?

Like the map and journal Chingo :)

Chingo Chaplo |

I'm down for that as needed, but not all the time. I do this hobby for many reasons, one to flex my cinematic writing muscles within roleplay. But yay, dead zambies. We cool bro, we cool.
Ok good. :)
It was an exception.
In hindsight, maybe I could have done it differently. It was just all the actions that depended on the shamblers moving closer and you releasing your spell.
Bear with me. I'm new to dm'ing pbp.

Rhanviel Thuven |

No prob buddy. At all. I'm really enjoying this thus far and you're doing a fantastic job.

Rhanviel Thuven |

Hey i'm going to post in like 9 hours bc i have to sleep right now or I'll die.

Chingo Chaplo |

Lambrecht has eight men. Most have daggers or shortspears. A couple have crossbows, and one has a short sword. Two are wearing leather armor. The rest are just wearing clothes. None of them are trained fighters. Lambrecht has a crossbow and a longsword and is wearing studded leather armor. He has a bit of combat experience.

Aralu |

I think the bandit leader is going to explode.

Rhanviel Thuven |

Is there a map for reference, or could I get a tactical description of distancing and positioning of the factions/peeps? thankssss :*

Chingo Chaplo |

Three bandits by Aralu on right side of road.
Two bandits with shortbows in the trees on left side of the road.
Two bandits with shortspears by Hrusk left side of the road.
One bandit with battleaxe by Drozak right side of the road.
All the bandits are within move and attack range of you.
I hope that's sufficient.

Aralu |

Rhanviel are you intending to put the crossbowmen guarding the caravan with us to sleep? Or did you mean the bandits with bows?
