Mystery of the Keepers (Inactive)

Game Master DireMerc

Razmir the man known as the living god is making his move expanding into neighboring nations. It seems nobody can stop him as his power truly seems to be that of a god. A select few know the secret of his power and are taking steps to end his rule with the help of another who wields the same power as Razmir. Sazed Khaim a member of the old order of the keepers.

Casting: When casting a spell defensivly if you fail you do not automaticly lose the spell, rather you provoke an attack as you normally would for not casting defensive. If you are hit you must make a concentration check dc 10+damage taken if you fail this check you lose the spell.

Rolls:
Many rolls will be handled by the GM in secret.(don't worry, I don't fudge.)
Any result that can influence the character behavior will not be rolled open.
Rolls that will be handled by the GM:
Perception
Sense Motive.

if you make the check I will send you a pm or make a post and put it in a spoiler depending on the situation.

Sometimes I will roll Initiative others I will ask you to roll depending on the situation. In some situation (rarely) I will bypass init entirely and have you all go first and enemies second or have enemies go first and you all go after.

Combat rules:
I'm a fair GM, I dont roll combat in secret, I don't change results, I don't ignore bad calls from the characters.
Sometimes, character dies, but I'm not a player killer, if I think that an encounter will be easy handled, when it should be more challenging, I will make it a more challenging, if the party it's not prepared to face something, I will drop hints, if they insist... well killing one or two players never made me lack sleep...

Actions:
I'm a GM that do not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visual appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! If what you want to do is wicked cool, I can even bend the game mechanics to allow it! The most importat part is: Everyone have fun.

Posting Rate
If it could be done, I expect 1/day posting, if you can post more, it will really good.
During weekend, this rule does not apply. If you are able to post, great! But dont stress over this, everyone need some time to rest (In my case, I need time to play and DM :D on my tabletop games).

Level up
Aside from character creation, when you level up, if you want something not from core rulebook, you'll need to search it inside the game. basicly what you need to do is just show in game your character is searching for that knowledge. This rule is not meant to prohibit anything, I just don't like something like this: "Character always as a full caster, never picked up a sword in his entire life, and then he gain a new level and says: Master, I'll level up as a fighter now..."

You walk along the streets of Absalom when suddenly with no warning, you suddenly hear the voice of a man inside your head."I have been watching you for some time. Your actions so far have been noticed and I believe you can help me. I am very wealthy and can reward you richly for your time and effort.Come to Gerald’s Rest and Revelry tomorrow morning to discuss arrangements. Be prepared for travel there is little time.

Gerald’s Rest and Revelry is an average-quality hostel in the market district. In addition to multiple performing stages and rooms for rent, the establishment incorporates a number of private rooms that have witnessed every sort of secret dealing. The private rooms are rumored to be magically protected against observation. The hostel is quiet when you arrive, with a lone bard playing for patrons enjoying breakfast. The host is a perky young half-elf who quickly recognizes you and welcomes you inside, ushering you up a short flight of stairs and into a balcony room that overlooks the stage below.

The host leads you to a second-floor room, partially open to the floor below and with an excellent view of the stage. The sounds of a lute carry above the faint din of breakfast. A number of chairs are arranged closest to the balcony’s edge, and a low table against the back wall of the room is laden with fruits and pastries.

A dark skinned middle-aged human with dark hair and neatly trimmed beard stands near the chairs. You notice he wears a ring on each finger made of varied metals, bronze, steel, silver ect...and five gold rings on each ear. He is apparently enjoying the musical performance. He turns as the door opens, gesturing to the table. "Please, help yourself. My name is Sazed Khaim, and we have business to discuss, which is always more pleasant on a full stomach. Once everyone has arrived I will begin."

Bleyz was surprised to hear a voice inside his head... This was a new experience... and disconcerting to say the least. He paused in the street, and leaned against a post, dizzied a bit by the strange sensation. He listened with some caution.

I have no need of wealth, but I have no other calling at present and this person seems to need help. Perhaps I can be of assistance to him and it will serve my own goals to help him. There is only one way to find out, and attending his meeting will not necessarily obligate me. I can always choose to opt out.

He spent the rest of the evening performing his kata and meditating in the privacy of his rented room.

Come morning, Bleyz collected his very meager belongings and gear and traveled to Gerald's Rest and Revelry as he was requested to do. He seems surprised to be recognized by someone who he doesn't know, but he follows the half-elf up the stairs and into the balcony room.

Once in the room, he removes his mask and hood, tucking them away, revealing his own face and features, his shock of reddish hair tumbling out from his cloak. He examines Sazed in detail, noting the many adornments the man wore. He nods in greeting.

"I'm sure there is no need for me to introduce myself. If you can speak in my mind, you must know who I am already. I appreciate you thinking I might be of assistance to you. I can only hope I don't disappoint."

Bleyz stows his gear in a corner of the room, then sits in one of the chairs, neither overly close nor evasively distant from Sazed. He doesn't initially partake of any of the food.

his name is pronounced 'Blaze', just an fyi

"The message was but a simple sending spell. I am familiar with your name and your background as I needed to find those who could complete the job and be trusted not to claim what I seek for themselves. While we wait there is one question I would ask. Do you worship a god? You dont have to answer, stuying religions is a hobby of mine."

After hearing a voice in his head, Achren began to wonder if perhaps the speaker knew of his situation, or perhaps one of the Gods had decided to intervene? Not Abadas, obviously. Not after the response he had got at his temple.

Achren went to an Inn and hired a small room for the night, spending his time checking his gear and meditating on his spells, and practising his magic and rehearsing how how would greet his fellow travellers and getting nervous before his first foray into a world he had only heard about and never seen.

In the morning, he hesitated long enough not to appear overeager and then made his way to Gerald's Rest and Revelry. After Master Sazed introduced himself, he said,

"Thankyou, Master Sazed for your welcome hospitality. I am Achren Blayland, though I am sure you know that already. I see I am not the first to arrive. Would you introduce me to my fellow traveller?"

I cant seem to change the descrition in my original post any more but I decided to make Sazed bald to match his display picture witch suits him well

"As to your questions about the gods, Sazed, I do not worship one more than the others, I have learned to give credence to all. But I do greatly revere the teachings of Irori and always strive for the perhaps unreachable goal of full enlightenment and self-perfection." He shrugs slightly.

Yeah, you only have 1 hour after a post during which you can still edit that post... I really hate that, lol, because I'm always finding errors and typos in my posts after the hour is up.

I was raised in a temple of Abadas, and my father always wanted me to believe, but I have seen too much of hypocritical priests to accept without reservation. Friend Bleyz, I see you are a fellow Tiefling; well-met.
Although he claims to be a Tiefling, he looks like some kind of shiny metal construct. Moving closer you notice that The construct is actually made of strips of something metallic you eventually realise is fine chains and between these chains you can just about make out a humanoid figure within.

Bleyz coughs slightly, clears his throat. "Ah yes, well, it is sometimes hard to accept the word of priests... I had a great deal of difficulty with priests when I was younger. I was lucky to have found a mentor later who guided me in more constructive ways. A fellow tiefling, eh?" He peers more closely at Achren, tilting his head to one side curiously.

"I'm afraid I've met few other tieflings in my days... and I must admit I've never seen one of your ilk before... most interesting. I don't mean to be rude.... please excuse my ignorance." He bows slightly toward Achren.

Someone with arcane abilities wishes to speak with me, and offer a proposition. Interesting. I suppose I shall see where this trail leads.

He retrieves his travelling gear, and makes his way to Gerald's Rest and Revelry, as instructed.

As he enters, he is directed to an upstairs room, already occupied by an interesting array of colorful characters. He looks at each of them, briefly, making a quick study of their faces, postures, and possessions.

What a trail, indeed...

"My apologies, friends. It appears that I am late for a meeting already in progress. Do not begin again on my behalf, I will follow along as best I can."

Devyhn sits in one of the few remaining chairs, and listens intently.

This is the place, Lysander Tremayne thinks as he enters Gerald's Rest and Revelry. Never been here before... He pushes the door open, sweeping back his high cowl as he ducks down to enter the establishment. Green take my height.

Catching the glances cast his way from the patrons, and their subsequent expressions, Lysander curses another aspect of his appearance, also drawn from his heritage. Not every day you see a gray-skinned elf, huh, folks? he almost says; he can feel the biting sarcasm on his tongue, but clenches his jaw to prevent any insults from escaping. They can't help it, the urban fools; they understand only what they want to, and fear what they don't understand. And they probably haven't ever seen my kind before, considering I've never seen another like me.

Moving lithely and quickly toward the bar, Lysander sees the half-elf smile and gesture to the stairs. He heads in that direction, holding his cloak back over his shoulder, pressed against his bow, quiver, and spear, to avoid catching it against any tables or chairs. He nods to the host and opens the door to the room, slipping inside easily.

Inside, he sees those gathered and quickly assesses them. The old man is probably a wizard of some sort--no armor or weapons, rings, and that message in my head see to that. The humans, probably mercenaries--at least the one with the scaled armor. The Pharasmin may be a clergyman, though he looks like a traveler. The other... I'm not sure, but he doesn't look quite human. And the other is all metal--very odd.

To the others in the room, Lysander is a very tall man, almost painfully thin, though his breeches suggest leanly muscular legs. He wears a shirt of patchwork hides above leather breeches and tall boots. His cloak appears to be a mixture of leather and hide, all stitched together, with what looks like a string of teeth and claws tying the shoulder-pieces together.

Most shocking, though, is Lysander's face. Thin and aquiline, with slightly pointed ears, it clearly marks him as having elven ancestry. Curious is the shock of long white hair that flows back from a high hairline; more curious is his gray skin. It doesn't look unhealthy; on the contrary, it looks the skin of a very healthy young man, but gray in color. His eyes are different colors, as well: one is bright green, and the other is a yellow-orange color.

"Well met," he says simply when Khaim introduces himself. His voice is pleasant, but short. "I will wait, if there are more to come."

With that, he moves to a wall, reaching out and grabbing an orange on the way. He pulls a small knife from his belt and begins peeling it, uncovering the whole fruit in a single piece, before pulling it apart and chewing thoughtfully. He looks at the others in the room as though daring them to try and converse with him. Let's see what type of men Master Khaim has summoned today.

Bleyz turns a half smile toward Erik as he walks in and nods toward him. "I am Bleyz. And you would be....?"

When Lysander enters a few moments later, he looks a bit surprised at the elf's height and finally gives him that same half smile he'd given each of the others upon their arrival. "I don't think I've ever met one such as you before. A second first for the day..." He glances over at Achren a moment. "Your skin and eyes are quite... uniquely odd. Do you mind if I ask what manner of elf you are?" he asks directly, the tip of his tail twitching slightly as he does so.

"Yes I was the one who sent the sending to all of you. We await only one more member. If he does not arrive soon I will begin without him."

Ausk walked in, looking a bit as if hurried. He surveyed the room with nods while watching for any reactions to his race, something he grew to realize during the survey many had similar experiences with.

He grabbed a pastry as he walked to the others, wiping some residual oil off of his armor as he did so, "I am sorry for the lateness of my arrival, I traveled to see my father last night to ask him to entreat Irori for a blessing on the endeavor, even as I did Erastril. I figured it only apropos given the nature of our business, given that Irori governs over knowledge as much as Erastril does family," with that, he wolfed the rest of the pastry, "That said, I am Ausk Wilkins, it is an honor to meet you all."

He grabs an apple and begins munching it while he waits for Sazed to begin.

"Welcome one and all, I belive we are all gathered. If you would care to proceed Master Sazed?..."

"Well I suppose I should get things started. You are no doubt all very curious as to why I called you here and as I mentioned before time is short. First I will give you an explanation of who I am.

I am historian from a group known as the keepers. Our goal is the accumulation and preservation of all knowledge. The order of the keepers is very very old and at one point we had gathered almost all knowledge in the world. Unfortunately long ago there was a terrible event and much of what we had gathered was lost. Trough much research I was able to discover the location of an archive. A vault were we stored a copy of some of our knowledge in the event of an emergency. This vault contains our knowledge on religions. Prayers, Holy texts, rituals, histories and more. Everything on over three-hundred religions many of which are forgotten. All that knowledge is saved in a small metal cube inside the vault. I have the key that opens that vault and my mission for you is to retrieve that cube."

He pauses for a moment

"The mission is not without danger, the forest were the achieve is located is filled with undead, fey, wild animals and possibly werewolves and the achieve itself might still have a few active clockwork soldiers standing guard....There is also another possible problem. A friend of mine helped me in the research to locate the vault and he was torture and killed in his home recently. I believe he was targeted by someone else looking to steal that knowledge for their own reasons."

He hesitated before mentioning the last part like he wasn't sure he should say and he shows a great deal of pain at the mention of his friend.

Male Half-Orc Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

Seeing the pain in Sazed as he mentions his friend, Ausk walks over and clasps his hand on the man's shoulder.

Bleyz listens impassively to the man's tale of an archive of knowledge and what they might face getting to it. He nods slightly and shrugs, not having the knowledge himself of what weapons or spells might be needed to face such foes.

"Have you a map you could provide us to and through this forest? And once you send us on this mission, perhaps you should hire some guards for yourself. It would seem prudent to protect yourself under the circumstances."

I'd like to sense motive, if that's ok. I assume he is human for the extra +2. Sense motive: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

What he has said so far is true as far as you can tell. At several point such as when he mentioned the contents of the cube and when he told you about his friend he stopped himself short like if he wanted to say more but for some reason couldn't or decided he shouldn't. The pain in his eyes at the mention of his friend was certainly real. it must have been a close friend to hurt that much.

"I can provide you a map that will bring you within a few miles of were the building was locate. It has been eight centuries so the building will most likely be overtaken by vegetation and in a poor state of repair. The vault is in the basement deep underground. As for your reward I believe it should take you around two weeks to complete this task and as such I am willing to pay each of you 400 gold in advance for your time and for travel expenses. Lysander looks up at Bleyz as the tiefling speaks to him, and after a moment's pause--Meh, why not--he says, "I'm half high elf, half drow. The latter has its effects on my appearance in a more... conspicuous manner than the former." He finishes the orange and slips the peel into a pocket, stepping over to the table and leaning on the back of a chair, though he doesn't sit down, even once Ausk arrives and Sazed Khaim begins to speak.

Hm. Knowledge, seeking it and protecting it. Admirable enough, though that they lost it suggests foolishness on their part... The half-elf does perk up a little at the mention of the vault's location, though. Ah, a forest. It'll be good to get out of this accursed city for a while.

Lysander stands up to his full height once more as the others begin to voice their opinions and questions. "I can't speak of vengeance for your friend, but I'll go to this forest and look for your vault," he says, rolling his shoulders. "I've been too long in the city, and I know my way around forests. If you would, though, just where in Golarion is this vault?"

"I have a suggestion... I know you are all eager to spend your advances, but I propose that we six pool 125 gold each which would be 750 total - enough to buy a wand of cure light wounds to bring with us to be carried by someone in the party who is able to use it for all our benefits." Bleyz looks to the others for their opinions on the suggestion before we split up to go shopping.

Lysander nods at Bleyz's suggestion, musing over his knowledge of Andoran and Falcon's Hollow. He'd heard of the place before, and figured he had a rough idea of the area and what to expect. Woods... It will be pleasant to be with the Green again.

"A wand sounds fine, if anyone can use such a thing. Some curative potions may not be unwise, either. Personally, I hope to purchase some specialty arrows."

"Excellent suggestion Bleyz. Who can use a wand of Cure light wounds?" Achren pauses for a minute then adds,"So, Undead, Fey, Werewolves and clockwork soldiers. Anyone know anything about them?"

Male Half-Orc Paladin (Divine Hunter) 1

"Agreed, the wand would be a great thing to have. The only question we'll have is whom among us should carry it. What are these specialty arrows you've mentioned? Perhaps I should buy some too eh?" To emphasize the statement, Ausk pats the bow slung across his shoulder, "Also, while not as exciting, maybe we should purchase tents as well?"

"I am capable of using such a wand, and I would certainly be willing to carry it, and use it for the benefit of the group. I would also recommend that each of us acquire a silver-coated weapon. Otherwise, if there are indeed were-creatures in the forest, they will make short work of us."

"Different types of arrows--many elves make use of specialty types. For example, this," Lysander says as he draws a curious-looking shaft from his quiver, "is called a 'thistle arrow.' It's designed to splinter on impact, causing bleeding. Very useful against larger foes who can't be taken down in one shot." He carefully slides the arrow back into his quiver, the motion smooth even though he doesn't look at what he's doing, clearly indicating many times of having drawn and replaced arrows. "Silver, among other materials, would also be wise...

Bleyz counts out 125 gold and hands it to Devyhn towards the price of the wand. "I'll look into the price of a silvered weapon and buy one if I can afford it. I'm glad you know about such things, I didn't know were-creatures were vulnerable to silver. I assume adamantium would be best against clockwork creatures, but I know I can't afford such a weapon, or cold iron either. Hopefully we can prevail without such equipment."

Lysander will also hand over 125 gold pieces to Devyhn once they are paid. "Adamantine weapons are quite expensive, but cold iron is not. It's usually about twice the price of steel."

Achren likewise counts out 125 of his gold and gives it to Devyhn."I too shall be looking to purchase silvered weapons or some such. What is effective against fey? I seem to recall they have some weakness or other." He pauses and looks at Sazed, "Master Sazed, do you have any idea who would know of your research? It seems to me we should know all we can about who these potential rivals are as they may try to beat us to this archive."

Ok well finish the shopping in the discussion area. Post any purchases there.

You go out and shop for your equipment and gather at the pier were Sazed awaits at the ship. You board and the captain gives the order to leave.

In three days you will arrive at Falcon's Hollow were you mission will begin. Now is your chance if you have anything left to ask Sazed or each other.

Will resume with the arrival at Falcon's Hollow in a few hours.

Three days pass and the ship arrives at the ramshackle town of Falcon’s Hollow. A town that rests perilously close to the infamous Darkmoon
Vale. The jagged shadow of nearby mountains casts a shroud of gloom on the desperate souls who call this place home. Many are drawn here to make their fortune cutting a swath of darkwood lumber through the lush forests of the vale. Others journey to these remote fringes to start over, piecing together their shattered lives on the edge of an untouched wilderness far
from the things of man. Persecuted zealots and outcasts flock to Falcon’s Hollow. Here, these fanatics practice their strange and often deviant
rites unfettered by the mores of civilization. Still others are lured to Falcon’s Hollow by the promise of great adventure. Peril and splendor await within the accursed halls of dwarven kings of old, whose glorious civilization long ago shattered and crumbled to dust.

The ship approaches the dock and Sazed hands over the map to Lysander. Looking at the town and the dark forest beyond.

"Do be careful I chose each of you because I believed that you could do this but I would hate to have been the one to send one or more of you to his death. I shall wait in the Inn until you return."

Bleyz disembarks with a nod to Sazed. "The gods willing, we will return without losses, and in possession of your 'cube'.

"One more thing take this. It's the key to the vault." He holds out a string with a simple silver key at the end. The key is as plain as can be with no special features.

"Thanks," Bleyz says, taking the key. "This reminds me. I did have one more question. Do you know if there are any traps laid for the unwary in this archive?"
