So are you just staying out of this one too? That seems like it'd be kind of boring for you.
As well, a servant is a servant is a servant. They have the same mannerisms the world over. You may not know exactly what your JOB is, but you don't need to. You just need to get IN. Then you can, say, change disguise to a guard and walk around more freely, or charm one to escort you, or etc.
Jorriko Krail |
I'm ready to assault the monk temple of death if I can find a potion of feather fall readily enough.
stealth: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
perception: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16
climb: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22 don't know if you needed this one.
acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Each of these rolls are sequential, and dependent upon another. If everything goes well at each roll, then move to the next one.
Rynjin |
Jorriko tries to creep stealthily up the watchtower. Unfortunately, one guard (that Jorriko can see) spots him climbing up the side and starts racing over to investigate. Thankfully, another (visible now on top of the watchtower) is still unaware of Jorriko's presence, though that may change soon.
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Jorriko easily reaches the top, and is, for now, undetected by a guard standing within 5 feet of him on the roughly 10 foot by 10 foot covered platform.
Rynjin |
5d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 2, 1, 5) = 14
Jorriko runs at the ninja and shoves him off the top of the Watchtower.
He tumbles to the ground, screaming, landing with a sickening thud.
While he seems momentarily dazed, and groans in pain, you can see he's not quite dead as he shakily gets to his feet and coughs up a little blood.
Korak Fists of Fury |
Is there anyone in sight, other than Jorriko and the fallen guard?
Korak Fists of Fury |
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Korak Fists of Fury |
Korak gesticulates to Jorriko, using drow sign language to warn his fellow tiefling of the approaching guard.
(Assuming Jorriko can see me, of course.)
Jorriko Krail |
Krail nods ( assuming I saw either Korak or the other guard)and then vanishes and stealthily climbs the little roof of the guard outlook. vanish only if I noticed , otherwise it's only a +11 to my stealth
stealth then climb: 1d20 + 41 ⇒ (5) + 41 = 461d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Korak Fists of Fury |
Dude... 1d20 + 41. Why do you even roll? Heh
Korak Fists of Fury |
Korak Fists of Fury wrote:Dude... 1d20 + 41. Why do you even roll? Heh*shrugs*
Now you're just showing off. :P
Rynjin |
Jorriko notices Korak frantically signing at him and goes invisible, scampering up to the top of the watchtower.
The guards close in, making flying leaps from one of the second floor roofs on the inside of the compound, jumping over the 20 foot high wall and onto the side of the watchtower, where they start climbing.
That'd only be a +31, wouldn't it Jorriko? Since you're moving you get a +20. Also, they're about 30 feet up the tower. All told from the bottom to the roof the tower is 60 feet tall, so they're 30 feet away now.
Korak Fists of Fury |
I'm not sure about the landscape and our positioning... I dunno if I can get in without being seen and/or losing getting irremediably separated from Jorriko and Jo (if she's still around, that is)
Jorriko Krail |
well, I have a readied attack for one, and an AoO for the other. If I am not mistaken, that should "f" their climb check DC in the "b". At least, that is my hope... After weapon and falling dmg I am hoping they will be thinking more about retirement than you and Jo sneaking in.
Rynjin |
2 hits, one confirmation (since you hit Flatfooted with 15, but weren't invisible for the second swing). Wait, actually, why would one provoke an AoO?
The two guards swiftly climb up onto the watchtower. Unfortunately for the first, he immediately runs into Jorriko's waiting swing.
The slash bites deeply into his abdomen, the blade slicing into him into two pieces. He gasped his last breath and tumbled from the tower until he hit the ground and splattered like an overripe melon.
The second guard quickly hops up and flips toward the other side of the platform.
Acrobatics to avoid AoO (?): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (20) + 15 = 35
The guard makes a quick slash with his weapon before Jorriko can react, though his rapid movement and sloppy blade work makes the attack go wild.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
Jorriko Krail |
AoO stand up from prone/ climbing over a ledge. It consumes a bunch of move actions... Plus you are flatfooted while climbing.
my next turn (whenever that is)...
attack + dmg: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 281d10 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
confirm crit: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 291d10 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
And start to loot the bodies
Rynjin |
Jorriko unleashes another powerful slice, decapitating the guard and sending his head rolling across the floor before finally coming to a stop.
Jorriko then loots the three corpses (the last guard having expired some time in the interim) to find anything useful.
Loot list:
-3 Masterwork Wakizashis
-3 Hand Crossbows
-3 doses of Black Adder venom
-2 potions of Invisibility
Rynjin |
Jorriko scans the area, but sees nothing except the five servants moving through the gate at the back.
There is no last guy though. Remember, there were three. You killed one (he took a bit to bleed out) by pushing him off the tower, then killed two more as they were climbing up.
Korak Fists of Fury |
Well... Might as well join Jorriko, since staying outside won't help us much.
Korak moves silently to where Jorriko is. Looking around to see if there is anyone else in the area or other possible entrances into the palace.
I have no idea what is necessary to reach Jorriko's position... So here is a bunch of skill rolls for you.
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Climb: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
Rynjin |
Korak, much more stealthily than his companion (who is for some reason not up to his usual par tonight), climbs the tower, and leaps off over the wall after downing his potion.
He floats silently down to the ground and puts his back up against a nearby building, staying out of sight, along with Jorriko.
I'll just assume you're both over there, since you killed all the guards on that side of the perimeter, basically.
Once inside, they get a more down to earth view of the place, and can make more informed decisions on where to go.
There are 5 buildings, a large central palace type structure with 5 floors (each smaller than the last), and one much smaller, single story structures at each corner.
The two Onispawn are pressed up against the Southeast corner (orientation from the front gate).
Each building is roughly 100 feet apart, and 70 away from the main building from the nearest side.
The duo will either be forced to travel over open ground, in plain sight to reach the front door, or find a possible other way in through the smaller buildings.
Rynjin |
The two sneak into the building they had huddled up against.
Inside, they find what seems to be a storeroom of sorts. Various barrels and crates line the walls, with shelves and racks bearing all manner of weapons and armor rest above them.
A small trapdoor takes up the top right corner of the room.
Korak Fists of Fury |
Korak searches the room, including barrels and crates for something useful or interesting.
I take 10 on Perception, resulting in 20.
Rynjin |
Korak starts busting open crates and barrels. Despite the large number of everyday supplies (barrels of pickles, tar, old cloth, and so on) he finds a number of useful items.
-3 smoke grenades
-3 fuse grenades
-5 vials of alchemist's fire
-10 Masterwork Shuriken
In addition to the large number of well made, though not Masterwork weaponry on the walls (there's basically any non-exotic weapon you can think of in here).
Rynjin |
Jorriko carefully opens the trap door after disabling an insidious combination of an alarm and a poisoned arrow trap.
The trap door opens onto a ladder which extends down almost 30 feet into what appears to be a tunnel.
Jo. |
are ome the guard jorriko killed near Jo? I want to disguise as one of them and climb that tower and keep a watch.
Jo. |
Jo disguie herself as a guard, a dead guard to be precise. I then take my time to see if there is any danger(from the outside) to jor and korak. I spend 2 mimnutes and take 20 in perception for a 21.
Korak Fists of Fury |
Shall we go down?
can we get a ring of reduce person for Jo? We can put her in our backpack for the "boring parts" and then throw her at a social encounter like a Pokemon...
Makes, sense! The next generation of pokémon with have a "Fairy" type, and Jo does have Fey blood! :D
Unfortunately, Reduce Person would only make her Small, so still unlikely to fit in our backpacks... :(
What we need is a permanent round-shaped demi-plane and a pokéball shaped wand of Plane Shift! :D. It'd be quite expensive, but at least we would have the chance to shout "Jo! I choose you!".
Jorriko Krail |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
we hade a gnome sorcerer who would reduce himself and ride on the barbarian's shoulders. He had a tiny saddle crafted onto the breastplate and took ride feats... It was silly, but awesome at the same time. Biggest problem, was that the Barbie had a ring of petty vengeance that ended up taking down the sorc.
Rynjin |
You could get her a Necklace of Adaptation or something and just shove her into a Bag of Holding. =)
Jo disguises herself as a guard and climbs the watchtower to get a look around. She carefully looks around for the next few minutes, hoping to find something out of the ordinary.
She is eventually rewarded for her patience. Another guard comes walking out of the building at the top right and looks around for his buddies on the previous patrol. Scratching his head he spots Jo, up on the watchtower and swiftly runs, jumps, and climbs to the top to greet her. Thankfully, from the angle he came in he missed the dead bodies did not hide, and can't see them from the top. For now, her cover is safe.
"Hey, have you seen the two guards that were supposed to be over here? I was coming to relieve them but I can't find them anywhere..."
He grumbles to himself.
"Probably just went invisible to spite the new guy. AGAIN."
-------------------------------
Meanwhile, Jorriko and Korak finish their search of the little room and head down the ladder.
They end up in a tunnel, roughly 15 feet wide, 10 feet tall, and 100 feet long in every direction (at the current intersection it seems as though the tunnels lead to the other buildings you saw).
The white stone walls reflect the light almost perfectly, so the tunnel is brightly lit and easy to see in. It's trivial to spot that the tunnel is more of an underground square, and it does seem to have a pathway into the main building about 50 feet down.
Rynjin |
Jorriko spots and disables another Alarm/Arrow combo on the next trapdoor, climbs, and peeks up into it.
What he finds, upon cracking the trapdoor open somewhat, is a barracks. There are about 5 sleeping guards in here, along with two sitting at a table on the opposite side of the room playing cards.
Rynjin |
Jorriko very quietly and carefully closes the trapdoor, heading back down and shaking his head to Korak.
"Next one." he says.
Moving onward to the fourth building, is what seems to be a "locker room" of sorts. A bunch of the guards uniforms hang on the walls, along with a lot of their standard issue gear, including a single Potion of Invisibility in a cabinet.
